Who says they dont want to retain him? Brisbane wanted to retain Dimi and we won over

Mainly down to the fact he was at a club that signs players of calibre every season
Ben Kalfallah
Berisha
Troisi
Rojas
Valeri
Del Pierre
Bozanic
They constantly bringing in quality experienced players.
Not likely a young kid is going to come through and get enough sustained opportunities to succeed unless they are top shelf talent themselves
Who have the Tards really developed over the years??
Broxham??
Thomas??
Geria??
Not thinking of many others whom have come through the club

Jets youth team midfielder Antonee Burke will be on a plane to Portugal on Saturday as the first beneficiary of owner Martin Lee’s plan to develop players overseas.
Burke, 19, has signed an 18-month scholarship with the Jets and will be sent on loan to Academica until June in the Portuguese second-division, which Lee’s Ledman Group sponsors. He will play with the club’s reserve team.
“He will come back to us a better player, and it will be a great experience for him,” Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna said.
Burke was picked in a national under-13 team and trialed once at Aston Villa, but injuries and late physical development had hampered his career until recently.
“Injuries came and I lost confidence. I just got back from a big injury at the end of 2015 and haven’t been injured since, so my confidence is high,” the Emerging Jets graduate said. “Hopefully going to Portugal can help me try to get back into one of the national teams.”
Former Roar youth winger Joe Champness, 19, will join Burke in Portugal after the Young Socceroo also signed an 18-month Jets scholarship. Another Roar youth forward, Harry Sawyer, who made his senior Jets debut against Wanderers last week, and Joeys striker Mark Moric, the son of ex-Sydney United midfielder Ante Moric, have also signed scholarships.
The Jets had hoped to play Sawyer in their youth team in the Northern NSW NPL, but he is one day too old.
The Jets have also expressed interest in signing 18-year-old Wanderers and Young Socceroos striker Mario Shabow.
Sounds alright for those kids.
Sawyer is not ready for the bigs, get him off for a while.
I just cant see Martin Lee spending any decent money outside the cap for a decent player. Marquee player/players are surely in the plans for next season if he wants the club to improve and grow
I doubt it. Their lack of speed is being exploited and they have a marquee who is no longer a dominant force. Meanwhile, they haven't found a play-maker to replace the one they lost and their star Uruguayan striker is not getting the service he requires.
The problem is not the manager - it's the fact they don't have the right player mix.
On an individual basis sure they have good players - but as a team and with respect to value for money - they have fooked up deluxe.
Haha I was like berisha not a dominant force? Whaaa?
I agree with you there.
You put Muscat in charge of Victory spending the minimum end of salary cap without the big $$ marquees and running a disorganised club like Jets Gypos Nix etc and see how he would go
I reckon he would really ****ing struggle.
His management career is taking over the biggest club in the country with a well developed squad on the brink of success that Ange had built and since then he has managed to jag 1 ****ing title and he most likely will end up empty this year as well
So, basically he's not a good coach because he relies on his best players to play well and because his club has more money than some others.
Take away the fact he is clearly a great motivator, his sides consistently play the best football in the league and have won multiple titles. Sure some of his success came with a squad that had a few key players brought in by Ange (Finkler and Barbarouses namely), but Ange's Victory sides were a bit underwhelming really.
What has he changed since Ange took over they play the same style almost and where is he plan B. Sydney brought on ibini and started playing more direct balls in behind and muscat did nothing, add this to Sydney's defence easily handling victorys attack most of the night so where was the change in style or tactics to get around this. Put Muscat in charge of a squad like us or Mariners and he would struggle big time. Being Passionate and Fiery only gets you so far you need to combine this with football coaching smarts and tactical nous.
Ill give further example, look at Okon in charge of the Gypos with the worst squad in the league. At times he has them playing (hurts to admit it) some good football to watch. Give him the squad Muscat has and we'd see some exciting times for the a league IMO
I think if put Muscat in charge of the Jets we'd have a surplus of ex A-league players joining the NNSWPL competition.
He wouldn't accept 2nd best.
As far as only managing a quality team with plenty of money that's not always easier either.
There is a lot less pressure at clubs like the Jets and Mariners than at the Melbourne or Sydney clubs. There would also be a lot less ego to contend with at the smaller clubs as well.
I'm not saying tactical issues aren't important but the further up the ladder you go it really becomes as much about man management as it does tactics. Higher paid players also have a lot more influence as well. Look at someone like ETO as an extreme example with respect to his national team - he essentially ran the team at all levels so great was his influence on the sport.
Great managers cab do it with different levels of resources
Blokes like Conti can do a job
He has done it at Juve doing it at Chelsea
Where he has had resources
Done a quality job with a limited squad with the Italy NT
But has also got 2 clubs promoted from Serie b to the top flight
Bloke has a fair idea about running a football club
Then you have someone like Guardiola
Dominated in Spain with Barca and Messi
Dominated in Germany with Bayern
Both in two leagues that are dominated by 2 big clubs
But the poor bloke has NFI it appears when coaching in the EPL
Even with a highly talented squad that is at the top nd of the league on talent without the significant advantage over the other teams he is being shown up
Bridge back on the radar according to the herald. Apparently injury is a hairline fracture in tibia with 8 week layoff. He's back running after 4 already. Talks are jets asking for allowance to sign him for this season if he is released after the transfer window closes. Can see the FFA squashing that
They got beat by a ball over the top to Ibini who bullied one defender and outpaced another. I hardly see this as being tactically outplayed.
Until then they gave as good as they got and probably played the better football. Same as the first time they played Sydney, where they deserved to win.
Plenty of time this season where Muscat has got his tactics spot on. They were the form team in the comp up until the last week (when admittedly they lost three in a row).
F*kn well hope FFA quash it, any excuse to not have wankles back despite Griff's glowing endorsements.
Apparently Brennan is training with Chiangrai at the moment - opportunity lost, coulda been a straight swap for wankles if we'd played our cards right...Quote:
“We still need clarification from the PFA (players union) and FFA with regards to what we can and cannot do if he is released after the window closes,” Griffiths said. “There could be an exception made. It is in the hands of the Thai club. If there is a mutual termination, we will attack.”
Griffiths has no doubts that Bridge would provide a “lift” approaching the finals.
“Looking at the squad, Bridgey would be a perfect asset to bring in,” said Griffiths, who played alongside the striker for two seasons. “He has the experience – he has won grand finals, won Asian championships, played overseas – and is a big-game player. There is no point signing someone if they are not going to improve the squad. I have played alongside Bridgey. He takes a lot of pressure off other players. That is the beauty of a good player.”
why are we so obsessed with mark bridge ffs, surely we can sign some other jabroni
Personally rather have nordstrand and bridge then Kokko and nordstrand as our striking options. Opens up a visa spot whilst keeping the same depth of strikers
Brennan signed for Bentliegh greens in the Victorian NPL - never mind he is on trial
We have also taken on Jayden Prasad from brisbane roar youth, not sure if he has signed or just trialling, saw him at training looked decent.
But that makes it 6 former roar players potentially at the club
Clut, Jackson, Petratos, Sawyer, Champness and potentially Prasad
If there was a zombie apocalypse and there were only 2 strikers left in the world, Bridge and Kokko, I may agree with you on Bridge.....begrudgingly.
FFS the guy is 31 and has a leg fracture....and we are still going to sign him. This club will do me. How about we actually recruit someone decent.....who doesn't have to be someone Jones has already seen. So farking lazy
Yeh I agree to an extent. I'm just giving some reason as to why we would be keen on him. Still frees up a visa spot to go after a top line striker. Bridge probably offers you more then haliti if his career is coming to an end. Love Labs but well past it in my opinion. Bridge offers a little more in desperate times
