These scholarships are very interesting. I am assuming what we have done is sign these players, I count 5 now, to the NYL contracted player positions, like Lundy was, and then loaned 2 out to Portugal.
To play NYL you have to have an NYL or HAL contract and standard NYL contracts are amateur contracts, hence why we can raid the Roar. This seems to be a loop hole that allows us to sign up more than 3 NYL players to min wage deals.
If it's just for this season, then there are 10 games to go and he has another 4 weeks on the sideline plus needs to get fit. The club is taking the p*ss.
If it's for longer than this season then we should be aiming a lot higher than Mark Bridge......plus he is injured.
He isn't a striker and won't score goals regularly. That isn't his game and never has been. He plays more effectively in wide positions or behind the striker, positions where we have better players. He is also 31 and his best days are behind him. We aren't signing the player he used to be, we are signing the downhill version.
Before he was injured, I could stomach a contract for the rest of the season on the basis that there was no one else. But to sign Bridge for 2-3 years on the sort of cash talked about earlier this year is a dumb decision. It's well and trulely time to move on.
TBH, Griff loves the guy and was gutted when he left for Sydney. For them to knock back Griff Jnr (if he did offer himself - which I doubt) and go after Bridge says something.
If Bridge was a straight swap for Haliti on the same money, then without a doubt it would be great business. But the money quoted earlier to prise him away from his fat Thai retirement pension, 200k for the rest of the season, is not close to worth it. I shudder to think how much the deal for 2.5years was worth.
Hopefully the FFA/FIFA help us dodge a bullet here.

Firming up even more with Slippery Snake heading to Chiangrai, looking to replace Bridges before he's even gone?!? HMMMMMMM
Welcome back to Newy Bridges.... :deadhorse:
Do we have it official that it would be for more than just this season?
i agree that it isn't a wise choice given his age and he ain't one of the fittest 31yr olds going around. Not to mention the cap space that this would take up!!
this cash would be wiser used on many other options possibly european.
wasnt there some talk also in relation to targeting o'donovan for next season?
Every piece of player signing information Lawrie gives out is about building the squad better than it is now, and building for the future. Signing Bridges for the end of the season only fills one of these criteria. Either he is lying, or he thinks Bridges can get us into the finals and that's our only aim for this year.. So who knows.
what if it's actually michael bridges
Has played his entire career either as a #10 or a wide forward (mostly on the right). Considering he is now the longest signed player at the club I think it's a fair assumption he will play either of those positions. I don't believe he was signed to sit on the bench.
Hoole getting ahead of himself again:

At least the end comments sound more like management's massive boner over signing a one-legged wankles might be waning a bit... hopefully...
His agent putting more stupid ideas in his head again - if any young Aussie was to go overseas and never be heard from again it's Hoole.
He has had two seasons with a mark of 5 out of 10. This season he is probably a 7 out of 10. Needs at least one more season in the A-League before even considering a move o/s.
To be fair I don't think anywhere does it actually quote Hoole saying he wants to go OS next year. Mostly as said it's probably coming from his agent.
Of course the kid would have aspirations of playing at a higher level. What player wouldn't? (edit Marc Warren)
Just hope there isn't too much hate directed towards him and hopefully he gets on with business and the rest will take care of itself in the coming years. I for one would be happy if he signs an extension. He's no world beater but in my opinion he has a positive influence on the side.
He is off contract isn't he??
Overseas clubs sniffing about
Rival clubs sniffing about
Isn't this just typical agent dribble from an agent trying to get his client the most coin he can??
Hopefully Gypo and Griff remind him that he walked out on us then when he realised the grass ain't so green elsewhere came grovelling back.
Hold him to account for that and pay him market value and not a cent more
So BK is a goalkeeping coach at Maitland now. That's an interesting move
yeah i just dont think he's a #10 for Roar in the same way the Jets expect him to be.
As I've stated before, in my opinion he gets the time and space he does because of the players around him. he's dropping down a huge level in teammates ability to do the same and i fear he's gonna be the straight up whipping boy when it all pans out.
