Errr...they're not in this league.
I’m just waiting for the, look at stags 18s result, instead of a 5-2 win over the team that just beat NL 4-2…. I’m sure daggers be out if it was westy 5-2….. go the stags
Great result for the stags, team to watch
Having 8 players play isn’t going to end pretty for any team is it… The fact it was only 7-0 with 3 extra players for 65 minutes and 4 extra players for the last 15 is sad on Westy’s part. Stags didn’t stop until the end and did well considering the circumstances. Watch out this weekend for when they have a full team again. Will be interesting.
its a great improvement for stags 18s - remembering their 18s lost 12 - 0 to New Lambton last year. Stags 16s last year were good and if 7 or 8 players can hold westy to only 7....might be another long year for the westy 18s. Well done to stags on starting to steady the ship in the younger ranks, obviously paying off in firsts.
oh in junior football its atrocious. But last years 18s side couldn't string a pass together, coach spent all game berating the players and yelling some very elementary things that seemed straight outta the Scorps rather than the stags, outsiders could tell players hated it and nobody wanted to be there - it was cringe to watch from the sidelines. Clearly this years group is better, and whilst we can dump on clubs for getting things wrong (and we should re 13s-16s at stags) its also good to recognise clubs taking something in the right direction.
They need to address the massive issue in their junior ranks and need to do it fast - however, this is at least a step in the right direction, in an age group where many clubs end up going backward a little bit.
One of the “ mercenaries “ didn’t play in the 5-2 win, so it’s not them propping first grade up. Youth is not happening but it’s not through lack of trying
Toronto beat them 3-0 in pre season and had a slow start against them conceding 2 in 5 minutes and then dominated the rest of the game.
Drew 1-1 with NL too? Finishing 3rd on the same points as second with the second best defence in the comp by not many either. Had Belswans and NL still to play. They still had every chance to make their case. I believe they went 7 games unbeaten and won 5 in a row?
Don’t know how that’s not putting their best foot forward to go close to winning it if the season carried on?
Amen, Toronto's youth has been a shambles last few years. Struggle to attract players, however, with increased fee's and requirements from Northern makes it hard to attract players with such high costs to play in the 2nd div.
Belswans 2 Toronto Awaba 0
Great game
I think you're mixing your grades up. New Lambton 18s beat Toronto 18s 12-0 in 2021 - their 16s were the side that did well after they picked up the Lakes NPL kids that got cut (not their own players).
However, I don't think 16s results really have any relevance. It's a 2 age group jump. Undertakers' claims make sense for 2023..but not for 2022. I know both Belswans and New Lambton 18s had a LOT of bottom age kids last year who would still be eligible for 18s this year...means Toronto's 18s are a year below them...obviously, a good club is promoting kids to Reserve grade even if they are still age-eligible for 18s (better for their development - that's a whole 'nother debate as some clubs don't do this, they stack 18s instead) so some might not be there, but you would assume both Belswans and NL would be very strong in 18s again considering their teams last year were mostly 16-year-olds turning 17 who would be returning.
The biggest problem with stags 18s last year was what could be heard from the stands as a spectator. No kid wants to be spoken to that way, especially when it's not making any sense from a football point of view either. I mean some kids respond well to coaching sprays... but usually only when they have some sort of football weight/knowledge behind them. Embarrassing. The new good players are mostly those that were cut from Lakes after that debacle, so it's not as if development has been fixed. Hopefully they're focusing on knowledgable coaches who foster player development for this crop they've been handed. If not, it'l just be the same problem again.
Any truth to the rumour Stafford and McGuire had a half time blow up and McGuire isnt returning
