19 players signed for next season
- 17 A-League squad players
- 1 Visa spot (Mikeltadze)
- 2 Scholarships (Goodwin and Archbold)
Duncan
Ingham - Elsey - Jurman - Mauragis
O'Doherty - Devlin
Champness - Thurgate - Goodwin
Mikeltadze
Bench: James, Hoffman, Warland, Kanta??, Yuel
I guess as of now thats our squad from my view, I don't hate it but it's definitely missing some extra something to take it over the top
Happy for people to modify this with a general consensus on players best positions, especially youngsters.
But this is what I am seeing as a quick depth chart.
GK - Duncan, Noah
RB - Ingham, *Hoffman
CB - Jurman, Elsey, Warland, Al-Taay
LB - Mauragis
CDM - Kanta, Devlin, O'Doherty
CAM - Thurgate, *Kosta
RW - Hoffman, *Ingham, Kosta, Champness, Archbold,
LW - Yuel, *Kosta, *Archbold,
ST/CF - Beka, *Yuel, Goodwin.
*Second position that a player can also do a job at, but not their best position.
So,
GK is sorted.
RB is sorted.
CB is more than sorted.
LB needs someone else, either a backup if Pappas rates Mauragis or an older starter if needed.
If we go to a back 3/5, we are sorted for all 5 positions because we have other options for LWB in Kosta or Archbold.
CDM is sorted.
CAM definitely could use a visa signing to bolster our attack. Thurgate can be an amazing backup or move to an 8 if we slant the midfield and leave Devlin as a single pivot.
CF/ST is probably sorted given Salary constrants and other needs.
RW looks sorted if Champness stays.
LW looks weak and needs a guaranteed starter.
I hope we resign Stamo as a proper backup ST with Goodwin being the longterm option after another season working his way off the bench.
Would it be possible to add to the bottom of this post how many positions we have left to fill that the rules allow ?
E.G 1 visa spot filled with 3 spots still available
19 players signed with 4 spots still available
2 scholarships filled with 2 spots available
The reason I ask for this is I can never remember how many players we can have signed and how many positions we have left to fill.
It will also show us if the club is utilising all the signings available that the rules allow.
Never been a huge fan of Johnny. Would've been interesting to see him as a midfielder.
I hope NTS gets a chance now.
Johnny K = Brilliante v.2
**** this club.
When do season tix go on sale hurry up Middleby.
In the herald today they mentioned that Devlin might not be playing for us due to offers from Europe, I understand he’d want to take that offer but as a club we really really should be pushing to keep him. Many clubs seemed to want his signature and somehow we got it, be disappointing to see him go before we even got anything out of him
IMO if he has an offer to play in Europe we as fans should be happy to see him go there. We want Aussies playing at the highest level possible and the A League is about as low as it goes.
The club just needs do it's absolute best to convince him that when he's done in Europe he should come back and pay us back for letting him chase him dream.
I agree that it will be sad to not see him play for us tho.
Perhaps it's classic Jets... Probably gave him an exit clause that if he got a euro offer he could terminate his contact so he's a free transfer, the sort of clause other clubs wouldn't agree to, but Jet's would.
Shame about Griffiths getting screwed out of a job so the parasite Dean's can be handed another position for him to **** up, all because they ****ed up giving him a coaching contract.
Love the mutual terminations so our owners can top up their squads with our players again. What happened to transfer fees coming in for the 2021 season? who needs to worry about that when you can have a feeder team instead.
Papas in the herald said he's hoping but no guarantee that in the next week we'll have signed at least three key foreigners for the squad.
Also seeing that apparently Devlin being gone is most likely, and that I believe we will be getting some compensation if he does leave
So Yuel is back on deck and we are close to making 3 additional "key foreign signings".
Also it appears Stamatelopoulos and Armson are trialling with the club. No word on whether Yengi is
Herald article says we have 6 spots to fill. I think we are still at 5 foreigners each and no idea about the rest of the squad limits
a minimum of 18 Players;

At all times during the Season, a Club’s A-League Player Roster must have:
- a minimum of 18 Players;
- a maximum of 23 Players;
- a minimum of 2 Goalkeepers;
- a minimum of 3 Australian Players aged 23 or under;
- and a maximum of five foreign players.
Guest Players sit outside the Club’s A-League Player Roster. Players on a Club’s Y-League Player Roster, including Scholarship Players, are also eligible to participate in the A-League.
So the missing part is keeping track of how the club classify contracts when players are signed/re-signed.
True for all that but irrelevant if the club doesn't spend outside the cap.
They don't really have a history of promoting players from their youth set up so not really any long term players on their list last year to qualify for Loyalty players.
They do however have a few players U23 that would qualify for the Homegrown unlimited... Atkinson (14 games), Colakovski (21) and Metcalfe (24). That's 3 handy players to pay completely outside the cap.
They had eight scholarship players.
They almost certainly used two designated players.
That leaves 15 players to split the $2.1m cap, unlimited funds on the three U23's and two DP's.
Find it hard to believe they could spend $3.3m on 5 uncapped players though but who knows.
Isn't Lucas from the central coast or Sydney?
Hearing a rumour that Ridenton is possible rejoining the jets
Not from any reliable source, but heard it a couple of times
D’Agostino anyone?
Not surprising but Topor is officially released
Best of luck to him. Thanks for all he's done.
Thanks Topor.
Deserved a proper send off.
Think he could have done a job for us. Maybe our terms weren’t worth it to him. Or maybe we weren’t interested at all.
Can see both points. Won’t be arguing if we end up with a few Clean sheets and good defensive record.
Football and sentiment rarely work together. Goodluck to him.
