Newcastle Jets can today detail a number of squad changes ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.
Defender Taylor Regan, utility Sam Gallagher, and goalkeeper John Solari have been informed that they will not be re-signed by the Club for next campaign.
26-year-old Regan has played his entire professional career with the Jets having formerly skippered the Club’s Foxtel National Youth League team. Regan played 68 times for Newcastle in the Hyundai A-League.
Gallagher, 23, joined the Jets ahead of the 2014/15 campaign from Vietnamese side Hanoi T&T. He made a total of 19 appearances for the Club throughout Hyundai A-League season ten.
21-year-old Solari linked with the Jets in 2013 from South Australian Premier League outfit White City. While he never appeared for the Club in the Hyundai A-League, Solari featured regularly for Newcastle’s Foxtel National Youth League side and provided dependable back up to Ben Kennedy and Mark Birighitti during his time in the Hunter.
Newcastle Jets can also disclose that Allan Welsh (16 appearances this season) and Travis Cooper (two appearances this season) have been informed that at this point they will not be re-signed by the Club. Jets management may seek to re-engage with Welsh, Cooper, or both, depending on various factors.
Utility Nick Cowburn (10 appearances this season) has been offered a youth deal. The Club is committed to retaining the Toronto junior.
“We’d love Nick Cowburn to stay at the club however with Scott Neville and Jacob Pepper contracted and able to fulfil the right back role, at this point we need to work within our salary cap and squad size parameters,” Newcastle Jets Head Coach Phil Stubbins explained. “We will remain in open dialogue with Nick.”
Max Burgess (five appearances this season) remains in discussions with the Club.
Ecuadorian attacker Edson Montaño remains under consideration by Club management. Montaño was on-loan to the Jets throughout the 2014/15 season from SC Barcelona in his homeland. Discussions with his loan club and local agent will transpire in due course.
Stubbins added: “Today the coaching staff had to deliver some tough decisions to some great people. We certainly wish each of the guys that are leaving the club the very best in their respective futures.”
“We are well advanced with our plans to recruit some top quality players to join home grown products Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski, Jacob Pepper, and the returning Nigel Boogaard in our pursuit to bring success to the Newcastle Jets.”
The Club is in negotiations with Enver Alivodić to retain his services

The off-field circus begins.
didn't we establish at the start of the year that pepper is not a RB
i reckon neville will be on his way nonetheless

This has always been a massive problem within this club. Instead of having a decent back up player for a specific position we decide to play someone who can do a job there and save our spots. How hard is it to have 2 left backs and 2 right backs in a 23 man squad??
This goes every position. Stubbins must just think that all forwards can play across the front, all defenders can play across the back and midfielders can play anywhere.. Sounds like U/14s football... wait, that's probably setting the bar too high for old Stubby & Chubby!
Clearly Neville's stance earlier on is the motive behind the quote " We will remain in open dialogue with Nick.”
Time to get updating!

Might be time to go shopping for some other talent on here.
Hey guys...
Ive been reading a few of your threads pretty much everyday for the past 12 months, so have decided to sign up so i can join in on occasions!
Just wanted to say that the decision to axe gallagher, welsh and solari is great. Cleans out some players that arent upto a-league standard imo. But with solari being released, is that an indication that stubbins is banking on a birighitti return, or is there another gk in the pipeline?? Anyones better than BK!
danny ireland
local boy and was running round with coventry 2 seasons ago.
get langerak
Put your hands together for Stubbins (not your) Newcastle Jets!
Shambles.
Turnbull would be a handy signing, but cant see stubbins dropping BK for him. He seems to see something in him that i definately cant.
Do u go and use a visa spot and chase a keeper? Its hard to find a keeper of someone like galekovic's quality sitting here in aus, or willing to come back home for that matter
Only offering Cowbie a youth deal? Does the club think they can hide him away in the Youth Team for another season when there is legitimite interest from other clubs that are a much better position than the Jets!
Pretty disappointed with Regan leaving, he is a decent squad player. Id be equally disheartened if Cowburn got a full contract elsewhere because we dont want specialist fullbacks and would rather utilities play there (maybe that's why we conceded so many goals).
And i have no doubt we wont sign any quality and be forced to 're-engage' with Cooper and Welsh.
If I were Travis or Welsh, why would I want to come back here when they have been basically told "You are the back up plan". Unless no other club would give them a chance, I can see someone taking a punt on Travis though, there might be something there.

Virgili gone also, has been added to the article
Surely Regan should've been kept as back-up at least. He wouldn't have been on much
^^union rep m8. tinks hates unions.
==Off Contract==
Enver Alivodic- At the right price.
Nick Cowburn- Priority, lock this kid down and give him a 3 year deal
Braedyn Crowley- Pass
Michael Kantarvoski- Local, give him a year on not much money to see if he can progress further.
Max Burgess- Looked promising keep him around in pre-season if other options fall threw.
Mr Postman you forgot to mention Hanna in your list.......^^^
I hope the state league players we are linked with are not like the ones we signed last year. I can see the cycle of Stubbins signing not good enough state leaguers continuing
Just did a quick google search (Took me no more than 5 minutes). Just typed Germany U21 national team. Pick the 2006 squad (These players are 31 now). Just picked 3 forwards out of the squad......Patrick Helmes / Stefan Kiebling / Christian Eigler and I look at their career. It became clear to me they should be the kind of marquee we should target. Obviously you can look at Spain / Holland / Italy / France.......You can also look at their 2008 squad (33 now) or even 2004 squad (29 now).....and surely we should be able to find a Broitch or a Berisha....
How do i add someone elses post in my msg? Im struggling 😕
Cant see Brad Jones wanting to come to the Jets. He'd be more inclined to goto the Paxton Swampdonkeys than the Jets
