A new thread for everything related to our new ownership group and everything club related while under this ownership.
The crossbar capers podcast had consortium representative Maurice Bisetto on their return podcast on Monday.
He seems a pretty switched on business head who was positive about putting more resources into the club.
They will be having him on their next podcast on Thursday so find their social media pages and submit some questions
for Maurice if you have any.
Jason Hoffman has been announced in the role of player welfare and community engagement offer.
This is a positive for the club and hopefully we see the Hoff out and about in the community soon.
Its no secret that under the previous ownership that we were run on the smell of an oil rag with limited resources.

A change although simple has been on the Jets social media sites, looking much more professional, also I did a change of seat with my membership and it went smoothly, little things count

Yeah I upgraded my daughters membership and it was very quick and easy. So far so good.

SEN Breakfast radio has a regular segment called Sport and the Law with Lee Hagipantelis.
Lee (Brydens Lawyers & formerly Wests Tigers) confirms that himself and Justin Pascoe (formerly Wests Tigers) have a 25% stake in the Newcastle Jets.
He says it's mostly a Melbourne consortium. (Lee and Justin are in Sydney)
I have heard Maurice say he is a Director and we know he is from Melbourne.
Lee says that once he and Justin weren't involved at the Tigers they had spare time and started to look for possible sports ownership options.
He indicates that the Jets price (low) was a key factor in why they were interested. ie. A-league stocks are low at the moment and they feel there is great growth potential in Newcastle.
When asked if they were worried about the lower amount provided by the APL, he said they already budgeted for worst case scenario options so they weren't concerned at this stage.
He does go on to say that teams need to find alternate ways for revenue instead of just relying on league distribution and tv rights money.
He mentions that there can be good money made from player transfers.
Also says that the next tv rights contract will be interesting and important for clubs.

I'm sure this is all information most of us already know but I thought I would pass it on.
I would say that club owners will be absolutely hanging out for an improved League contribution in 2 more years time.
It may well decide the current future of some clubs and the League itself.

The basket case of West Tigers NRL club over the last decade or so, leaves me a little nervous.

Could be great for us, as they are both very experienced operators. NRL for all their downfalls, seem a well run competition and know how to play the media. Their time at west tigers they were very involved with the club and operations giving interviews etc.

Cautious, but excited.

Do we know yet if they’ve passed the Football Australia vibe check yet?

No idea if they have passed the checks.
Any time the question is asked its always a few more weeks.
Considering they have already announced the new ownership we may not get any further announcement.

Robert Camilleri is from Melbourne and has links to some companies that were reported to be connected to our owners.
I wonder if he is part of the consortium.
Robert and Maurice are connected through Moreland City FC. Possibly played there together.

Having one of the Derby games moved to Sydney just demonstrates how frigg'n low and dopey the APL remain after DT left the builiding to move overseas and screw something up at his new corporate destination.

Its an uphill battle getting crowds and generating atmosphere at an A League game as it is and these numpties want to take one of the games of the season that really resonates with both clubs sets of members n supporters is just plain corporate incompetence n bastardry.

Just when you think shit couldn't get worse you get hit with another own goal, Screw it and those who made this decision. Both clubs supporters should rile up and have this reversed.

Just to double down on the stupidity, apparently the game is Friday night to make it difficult for both sets of fans to get there after the working week

Demonstrates just how common sense is still absent at The APL, Hoped for a better understanding of what the competition required to get itself out of the doldrums under Garcia and Conroy however it would appear nothing has changed.

Conroy's focus must clearly still be on his 5min cameo appearances as the token lefty on Sky News.

Meh, the APL seems to care more about the derby than Jets players, suits and fans over the past few years.

Geez, they may even promote it.

The A-League is probably in the most perilous state it has ever been and the only thing that will put it on the right track right now is the supporters getting behind it. Really, does it matter if a game is played in Sydney? Does it matter if the Grand Final was sold to Sydney? People could have made their point and said that it should never be done again but lets be happy that money is coming into the game.

I'm going to try and get to as many games as I can this year. Not committing to a membership because I'm just to old and too busy to know what I'm doing week to week.

However, the new ownership group need all the love we can give them so I'm sending them nothing but good wishes and good vibes. I remember the days when I dreamed that we had an owner who had a vested interest in finding a way for the Jets to seep into the veins of this city. Con was not that owner. He showed this after the Grand Final. He had the goose that laid the golden egg and he killed the goose.

Lets finally get it right.

Does it matter about a game going to Sydney ?. In the big scheme of things probably not but whoever chose the particular match they did to relocate to Sydney clearly does not get it. Very few home games bring in the atmosphere a Jets v Gypo game does and at a time when we are trying to get repeat attendees this is the the type of game that can do that.

Shipping this game off to Sydney was a a dumb decision made by some individual who should not be making decisions for the benefit of the game because there is no benefit at all to either the Jets or Gypo's.

I'm sure if enough thought went into it a game against another club could have been scheduled for Sydney.

The was I see the A-League is that it has the largest footprint of any code in Australia (and NZ) so travel is inevitable. The good thing for Newcastle is that we are in a small geographic zone that encompasses 5 of the 13 teams, so that is an advantage we have over the Melbourne teams in generating away crowds and atmosphere.

Missing the point i think, They chose the wrong game to relocate. The Derby is one of the few matchups resulting in a great atmosphere at either Gypo land or at home. They could have had us play any other team in Sydney not the Gypo's, That is what demonstrates just how absent minded the individual is who chose this particular game to shift to Sydney. It's not really a big deal for me. I think you could put a positive spin on it as a reply of the 08 Grand Final at the same stadium. That would get me interested in going.

Well being a Friday night in Sydney you will have plenty of seats to choose from because there will not be too many members being able to travel to Sydney in time to take advantage of the included entry.

A Friday night for christ sake, Just another example of some numpties with no idea. With Townsend gone the inept decision making was meant to be a thing of the past but apparently not. Had hopes things might turn around with the appointment of Conroy with more oversight and accountability leading to better decision making but apparently not.

Conroy clearly putting his 5min cameos on Sky ahead of sensible management at the APL.

Yeah, football fans from northern England hate travelling down to Wembley for the FA Cup Final, the Charity Shield and every other Cup Final that is held there.

This is how I see it.

On the negative side: We are in the 20th year of the A-League and it has never been in a worse position financially. In those 20 years, the Jets have gone through multiple owners who make losses and then lose the club or offload it.

In Newcastle, the Knights want us gone. They built their "centre of excellence" on community land and see the stadium as theirs.

The APL has no money and needs the supporters more than ever.

On the positive side: The A-League is still here.

The Unite round can be a stake in the ground where the most passionate fans from every club make a real statement about the importance of the A-League and the culture of football support. Take a stupid idea and make it great.

The APL has no money and so a revival can be led by the fans for the good of the game.

The Newcastle Jets have a new owner and needs the fans more than ever.

I'm a 50 year old man. I'm really not afraid of posting my name on a local internet forum. If anyone wants to talk seriously of the state of the Jets and the A-League I'm happy to. If I've got anything to offer let me say this:

I called the first meeting to start the Squadron in 2004. Me and a user on here called Cardboard Cutout showed up and had a chat with George Liolio at the Newcastle United Sports Club. I purchased a big vinyl banner for the Squadron which was stolen in a couple of weeks as were the flags George gave us. I didn't want to be the centre of this active support so set up an Incorporated Association called The Squadron Football Supporters Association Inc and a 5 member board including Rob, Argie, Todd, Matty and myself. I set up a relationship with Port Stephens Coaches to take fans to away games. Then I went to work for the Jets for a year, then left for family reasons but organised the coaches to go to the Sydney Grandfinal, raising about $15k for the Squadron in the process. That's about the extent of my involvement. Others have contributed more, done greater things and have more knowledge of football culture, and come up with better chants etc.

But others also had their flaws and the torch hasn't been passed down well to younger generations, such that we aren't really in any better position than when the A-League first started. The last of the money was going to be given away, which is the point I got the shits with the whole thing, because I am a great believer in making things sustainable and passing on the baton when you depart. So I haven't done much since then but watch the Jets on tv.

This is a fresh start and one where the Jets have much less money than when I was involved. They are going to need help. The great thing about that is that spirit doesn't cost a cent.
