wanderers have stood down their squad too.
Our squad and staff stood down, They have registered for jobkeeper payments
I honestly can't see how the A league will be able to restart when so many clubs are virtually left with no players.
And to all the employers who see this as an opportunity to sack staff and "restructure" their companies... f%cking cowards, I hope they all go bankrupt. Disgusting human beings.
The subsidy is backdated to March 1st. If you were permanently employed then you qualify. For casuals, you had to be in the job for 12 months or more.
The program will see the lion's share of the money going to companies / employees that don't really need it - because the businesses in genuine trouble can't afford to pay the workers up front then wait it out for reimbursement.
The bulk of casual / part time workers and practically everyone in retail that's not at least a manager won't get a cent because they are more easily substituted / replaced than footballers who are heavily protected from competition by a strong union representation.
On top of that, given the subsidy is a minimum of $750 gross per week - there's little to no incentive to save any workers on less than that income as you'd effectively be giving them a pay rise for nothing.
If the story is true about the Jets applying for this subsidy it won't go down too well with the fans that's for sure - especially the many low income / casually employed ones struggling under the current situation.
I work in the industry and details are sketchy until legislation comes through so we don't have the full detail.
Firstly, Jobkeeper Payment is only payable to companies who can prove a 30% reduction in revenue via the tax system. Some companies, like mine will take a few months to get that far. So in some businesses people can still be stood down because there is no meaningful work for them to do and the business is still above that 30% dropoff.
It is a government payment for companies to hold onto the jobs in hibernation, not a wage "subsidy" in principle. So yes, a part time shop assistant will get the same amount of money as their full time manager....difficult concept to grasp at the moment. You cannot look at it as a "payrise" for those on lesser wages. And yes that means most people will be paid $750 a week to stay home and do nothing as long as the job is in hibernation. The payment is taxable.
You can't terminate employees and get paid for them...and once they take their entitlements and are terminated you cannot put someone else there then take the payment, or bring them back.
All businesses, including sports clubs should at least register....that is all that is happening at the moment. And yes if the Jets claim in a few months time our players will get $1500 (less tax) a fortnight....probably enough to pay their rents.
Hopefully legislation will go through over the weekend and we'll know more on Monday.
If the league returns the salary cap will either be miles smaller or not exist but clubs still wont pay players anything close to what they get now, Which makes recruiting good overseas players hard
So, as I understand, the main reason behind all this is Fux refusing to pay and possibly willing to rescind the contract with 3 years to go.
A-league is not delivering on their part... due to a global pandemic. So is any other sport on the planet.
Is Fux going to walk away from their deals with, say, NRL? AFL? Supercars? Formula1? Tennis? Whatever else?
C'mon Rupert, show some guts.
These times are showing what many of our "leaders" are made of...
If this happens it be the best thing that could happen
Players in Oz need to be paid less
Players need to be driven to move overseas
Clubs need to be forced to develop players for transfer overseas
Not recycling your Fitzuseless types and not seeing blokes getting paid 100k plus for 10 years in the league like your Boogaards and Moss Hoff and Kant's types
I cancelled Kayo this week. Great service but pointless paying for something I can't use.

Could A-League continue by July:

Soccer: July more realistic goal for A-League to kick on
James Gardiner
Newcastle Jets
JETS chief executive Lawrie McKinna is not expecting the A-League to get the green light on April 22 to resume and believes July is a more realistic time frame for the game to kick back into gear.
It has been just over two weeks since the Jets beat Melbourne City 2-1 at McDonald Jones Stadium in the final game before the league was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Football Federation Australia will reassess the situation on April 22. The spread of the virus has slowed but unless border restrictions and social distancing directives are loosened - scenarios which are extremely unlikely - the season will remain on hold.
The Jets had a player test positive to COVID-19 last Friday, but McKinna said the player, who was asymptomatic, had since been cleared. No other player or staff member has developed symptoms.
The Jets were among seven clubs to stand down players and staff last week. The club has registered for the Jobkeeper allowance for staff, which will ease the financial stress by $750 a fortnight. The players are continuing to train in isolation in hope of a return to the pitch.
"Unless there are major changes to the isolation laws, I can't see that date being when we tick in," McKinna said. "The rate of spread is going down, but if we stop what we are doing they will increase again."
Professional Footballers Australia players union had threatened legal action against the clubs but are now working with them and the A-League to find a workable solution.
Clubs have been asked to put forward potential competition models for this season and next.
The submissions will be presented to the chairman of the Australian Professional Football Clubs Association Paul Lederer to work through with the PFA.
Under the Jets proposal, the current season would resume in August after a short pre-season. The concluding rounds and final series would be played, finishing in early October. The new 12-team competition would kick off in November with a 22-game home-and-away season culminating in May.
"If we can complete the season, I think we should," McKinna said. "You could still honour your season tickets, sponsors would get exposure and the finals series would provide a revenue stream for clubs. It would also whet the appetite for the new season."
The extension of the season, would require changes to contracts which expire on May 31.
"Obviously that is something we would have to work through with the PFA," McKinna said. "Contracts could be extended or players could sign short term deals. Our transfer window goes from July to October and you could extend it to November. Boys out of contract would be playing for new deals at their club or somewhere else.
"There are AFC requirements as well. Everyone will be understanding of contracts because it is happening all over the world."
McKinna said if football wasn't able to resume until September, the best move would be to start afresh with a new season.
"We want what suits us but also is what is best for the league," McKinna said. "You don't want to be away from the game too long. You want to get the boys back in training and you want to get them back playing games. But you want it to be safe for everybody. We are looking at how we see it best fitting into a schedule to get back to normal as possible.
"It would work for us and it would work for fans. If you look at social media it is football, football, football. You miss it. It is not just going to games. It is the interaction with people, the banter."

FFA might sell a stake of the league to private parties - like IMG.

Meanwhile, private investors are also circling A-League clubs in the hope of a finding a bargain. Park Lane, a US investment bank which specialises in helping cashed-up clients buy sporting teams, is keeping an eye on all major Australian sports, including football, and has already made an informal approach to one A-League club.
Newcastle Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna confirmed he had received a call from Park Lane to discuss the club's ownership situation.
"We just had a wee chat, which is fine - I'm always open for a chat. You never know what will happen," McKinna said.
The Jets are owned by Chinese lighting magnate Martin Lee but the club has been seeking additional investment for some time, with Lee unable to cover increased financial losses on his own.

From today's SMH
A-League clubs are preparing for a competition re-start in August with Wellington Phoenix to base in NSW for a two-week quarantine period.
While Football Federation Australia (FFA) is yet to officially detail the league's resumption, clubs are preparing for a July training phase ahead of an August return to games.
The league was suspended on March 24 with five rounds, plus finals, remaining.
All games are likely to be played in Sydney at venues without spectators.
Phoenix will follow the path of the Warriors in the NRL in flying to Australia for a 14-day isolation period ahead of training.
"A bit like the Warriors, we would head over for two weeks of quarantine," Wellington's general manager David Dome told the NZ Herald.
"We would train for a couple of weeks, then go out of isolation, then train for two more weeks ... then hit the ground with the resumption of the A-League."
The remainder of the A-League season may be played out in Sydney, meaning Melbourne clubs would potentially have to relocate interstate.
Dome said the health of Wellington players remained top priority before the competition resumed after halting because of the global coronavirus pandemic.
"We have to make sure the right protocols are in place," he said.
"We've said from day one it has to be about the safety of the players, no one wants to put them at risk.
"We want to make sure we have the best possible options, processes, procedures and structures in place."
While Sydney was the expected hub, Dome said sufficient training venues and match-day venues were yet to be settled.
"We have to find venues for all the teams coming in from the other states and we have to find grounds to play in," he said.
"There's quite a bit of work to get through and we want to make sure we get that stuff right."
Perth Glory owner Tony Sage said ground availability was a pressing question, given the NRL would return from May 28 and use some stadiums used by soccer.
"The difficulty we have now is in NSW with the NRL playing, what grounds are available because the two big ones - Kogarah and Bankwest Stadium - will obviously be used for NRL," Sage told Perth radio station 91.3 Sport FM.
"That is an added complication to the mix so the FFA obviously have got the whole of May and June to work out logistics."
Sage said it would be easier for the league and clubs to be based in the same city.
"It's just easier with all of the players having the same conditions - quarantine, testing," he said.
"If you have it in the five different states, it's five different testing regimes for the players, it might not happen on an equal basis.
"So I think the hub idea is a lot better than doing that."
AAP
3 teams based in Newcastle.
2/3 teams based in Gosford.
6/5 teams based in Sydney.
It would work a lot better, plenty more room for training and games.
They should play all the games out of Gosford. (Send CCM games down to Sydney if need be). Hold the finals at Gosford as well.
Training and Hotels would be different, but 2-3 games a day at Gosford without rain would be easy for it to deal with. Get this season over with so we can force Foxtel to pay up for the remainder of their deal.
