    HAL 14/15 round 5 - the others

Hate sydney but the variety at free kicks is impressive.

Not sure why that goal didnt stand.

From what I've seen, that should have stood, I'm 95% sure that the ref has to hold the whistle above his head and point to it to signify that the FK will be taken on the whistle. Again, from what I've seen, Milner didn't do it, hence the goal should have stood.

Despite being right about everything you said all I can say it is still special when bad shit like this happens to Sydney cause they usually don't get ****ed over like everyone else.

Look forward to Arnie doing his nut in the presser

It's amazing when we started in the AFC and the socceroos were on the receiving end the media were up in arms about the gamesmanship used by our opposition. Now, one of their mates do it and it's almost admired.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the Keeper has a hand on the post and he is setting his wall then you are not allowed to take the kick. In this situation it's a moot point as Galekovic was not on his post but I'm just looking for clarification.

the man that makes the decision is the referee. basically you dont have to blow your whistle for every freekick that is taken. however generally when in a dangerous goal scoring opportunity the ref can slow game down and then as pv4 indicate the freekick is to be taken on the whistle, held above the head (ofcourse in low legs you can just say on the whistle) but at higher levels its holding the whistle above ones head so everyone can see this is the case. it is still a little gray area with each referee having there own interpretation, each referee association and each federation etc etc etc. I havent seen this situation so cant comment on that exact example.

From the Laws of the Game:

    Use of whistle
    The whistle is needed to:
    • start play (1st, 2nd half), after a goal
    • stop play:
    – for a free kick or penalty kick
    – if the match is suspended or abandoned
    – when a period of play has ended due to the expiration of time
    • restart play for:
    – free kicks when the appropriate distance is required
    – penalty kicks
    • restart play after it has been stopped due to:
    – the issue of a yellow or red card for misconduct
    – injury
    – substitution
The whistle is NOT needed to:
    • stop play for:
    – a goal kick, corner kick or throw-in
    – agoal
    • restart play from:
    – a free kick, goal kick, corner kick, throw-in
A whistle which is used too frequently unnecessarily will have less impact when it is needed. When a discretionary whistle is needed to start play, the referee should clearly announce to the players that the restart may not occur until after that signal.
So Milner was in his rights to deny it, but it was poor refereeing.

Refereeing for that free kick was shit. As rudan said. He watched the ball go into the net before he blew he whistle. He should of known when the ball was kicked whether it was taken early or not no matter if it went into the net or row z. If he had time to turn his head and watch the ball go in, he had time to put the whistle in his mouth and blow it. Also poor for not stating the play had to wait for the whistle (point to whistle above head).

No, he got the decision right. Therefore it was good refereeing.

Marcelo Carrusco that would have been. Should have buried it to be fair but that one Mabil done a couple of weeks ago V Perth has him covered.

Not really concerned cause I am pretty certain some Jets player will top it before Rd 27 is done

    Adelaide v sydney - 16015
    Wellington v wsw - 7008
Australia v south africa - "poor" - can't find the crowd figure, but it didn't look like too many were there.
