Besides having plenty of time for cricket personally I am not overtly concerned with inroads into this code. They unlike a couple of the other oval shaped ball games played in winter are not as insular about their game v our game.

Could have a bit to do with the fact they actually have some form of international presence and are not paranoid about our code getting stronger.

Anyway their crowd is not surprising coz that Tinpot cricket stuff they were playing hasn't exactly been well promoted for this series V Saffas

Just because he got the decision right, doesn't mean it was good refereeing. There's a difference between just getting the laws of the game right, which he did, and good refereeing, which includes getting the calls right, but also communication to the players, positioning etc.

Can you enlighten me where the bit is in the rule book that the referee HAS TO communicate with the players.

I am struggling to find it???

As baldrick pointed out, I just copied and pasted in one of my earlier posts.

But as I said, it was the correct decision, but not good refereeing.

It's all on how you interpret it.

As Plague said the decision was made on the result of where the ball went. If Galekovic caught it or it went out for a goal kick I bet Milner says play on.

When it went in the decision he made was altered when he realised he would have issues making it out of Adelaide alive.

Other thing I would like to point out is a free kick is a reward for the non infringing team (Sydney) to have possession of the ball for the rule infringement and exactly how are they being rewarded by not being able to take it when they like just so Adelaide (the infringing team) are busy DELAYING THE GAME by organising a wall??

There is nothing written in the rule book at all that says the ref HAS TO allow the defending team TIME to set up a wall to make the attacking teams chances of scoring less

Do we know for sure that the ref didn't tell the players to wait for the whistle?

I agree, this is why I said it was the correct decision, but not good refereeing. Milner should've blown it up much sooner, and probably would've let it go if it missed, sort of you wanna take it before I'm ready, if you stuff up I won't save you.

I can't find a quote, but I'm sure for a 'formal' free kick, the ref just needs to set the 10 yards out, and not wait for the wall to be set. If sydney wanted to take it quick, they should've asked the ref if they could, like Fowler did a few years ago.

Emphasis is that as they are the team with possession they should be able to as soon as they have the ball stationary on the correct spot. that is all they are required to do.

This shit about waiting for a whistle is a ****ing joke. It is the defending teams responsibility to retreat 10 yards. If the attacking team wishes to restart play they should be able to at their discretion and not at the pillock with the whistle who may or may not decide to enforce this waiting policy. It should also be the defedning sides responsibility to clear the 10 yards ASAP and not procrastinate with this shit as they shouldn't have any rights at this point in time

You're saying that Member, but the rules are crystal clear on this, the attacking team has to wait for the whistle. It's in the rules, twice stated in this thread. Ref actually applied these rules correctly for once.

The advantage should be the attacking team, yes, but the rules state that in this case, they had to wait for the whistle, even if the ref didn't indicate. Hence why I'm saying it was poor refereeing, but the correct decision.
