Threading a junior staffers needle then creating circa $200k a year positions for them is a sackable offence anywhere other than the Coalition.

I can't see National Party voters forgiving him next election - if he makes it to the next election.

But the list of ministers from all the major parties doing this shit is endless - so very unlikely the ALP would want to open up this pandora's box.

The Ministerial Code of Conduct states:

"relatives and partners are not to be appointed to positions in their ministerial or electorate offices and must not be employed in the offices of other members of the executive government without the Prime Minister’s express approval".

This is in fact, a rule that states that what he did, was not on. The fact it was his mistress, does not exempt him from wrong doing here.

Now allegations that he was banging Jannette Cotterell, are just the cherry on top. This guy is done and if Malcolm doesn't do anything about it, this government is done.

Yeah the rooting is fine but he broke the rules getting this girl paid.

Also, Member is right in that nepotism is how the world works, but when it’s not on your own coin you gotta be answerable to the shareholders.

Only prob is only one small group gets to vote on Barnaby fate, not all the aggrieved parties.

Best bit is the payback is coming. The stories are gonna be flying about who’s rooting who.

Gillard already been outed for being a home wrecker. I’m here for all of it if it means the place gets burnt down.

    **** em all.

    So firstly define partner??

This is just some bird he ****ed

Doesn't make them an item bedcasuse he gave her 5 mins of his time

Secondly It would seem that Turnbull has approved it

Thirdly there is no certainty this government are done
They should be done comfortably anyway just through their general ineptitude but whilst Labor offer up Shorten and ignore better candidates in their midst it keeps the Libs in the hunt

    Uh oh.
Looks like we’ve got another one of those incidents where everyone thinks that ‘their way’ would have prevented it.

If Trump manages to legit get any of these gun reforms through he’ll immediately shame generations of so called ‘leaders’ who came before him.

Except arming teachers though FFS that’s just a retarded idea.

Except that one will happen because NRA support it. We have a problem with too many people having easy access to guns. How can we fix this? Lets make sure that more people have guns. Yep, that'll do it.

Saw a fair point on the face book. Reagan surrounded by armed secret service but the bloke still got a fair crack at him.

Whole thing is stupid, the media/lobbyists or whoever just transform any argument into a different one which will get them sympathy or support.

    >Whole bunch of kids get shot up
    >We should do something so this doesn't happen again
    >"How dare you "use" this tragedy to push an agenda, show some respect" etc

    Or alternatively
Proposed gist of reform - We should make it harder for people to get guns, make them have to wait, perform a background check, restrict automatic rifles, whatever
Response - We have a right to protect ourselves, and you're trying to take that away - you must hate freedom!

    Final point, an analogy.
Anti gun control make the point that people will still get guns, criminals are the ones creating the problem so they will still get access to them and still carry out crime.
OK then - by that logic why have any laws at all, if the people breaking the laws are going to do it anyway?

All completely valid points and a good description about the way the gun debate has gone.

Which is why I said ‘if’.
My point is that if Trump manages to get ‘any’ significant change it will embarrass all of his predecessors.

The USA physically can’t just implement ‘Australian style’ laws.

And yes, banning under 21’s from getting these guns ‘may’ empower the black market. But no politician has gone anywhere near any significant reform EVER (and they’ve always put it in the ‘too hard’ basket).

So maybe if Trump gets the ball rolling it might just enable the next generation of leaders to not be so scared to take on some of these causes, and over time there is a continual effort to curb gun violence.

I think it’s a pretty significant step. Remember, he’s going after HIS own base. Give me an example of a pollie intentionally angering their base like that? You’d have to go back to Howard and the Australian gun laws, and he was universally celebrated for it.

But yeah haters gonna hate because of the messenger, just don’t downplay the significance of the message.

I’m not the first to make this observation but for damn sure if my teacher was strapped I’d be the first kid getting popped.

Hitler introduced gun reform as well when his party came to power - that didn't work out so well.

Yet with all the liberty, freedom and guns in the world the Yanks still voted for Trump.

I hear this talking point a lot, and it makes me laugh that there are legit people out there that honestly think if the Govt ever needs to be overthrown, that old Jim Bob and his pickup truck full of rednecks armed to the teeth are any match for a military force with around 9,000 nukes at their disposal.

If the Americans wanna feel safe in the event their govt turns tyrannical, go make friends with China, cause that’s the only Militia that’s any hope of saving you.

US citizens need only to stop using the currency to destroy the US government. That's it - and the government know it as well - hence why the US government legislates that taxes are only payable in US dollars.

It would also destroy Wall Street and many of the other white collar criminal organisations in the USA.
