Has there been a change to the red card rule. Cant work out how that was only a yellow when he is about to score and noone between him and the goals.

    Yes.
If the referee deems the player made a reasonable challenge for the ball, then there is a directive not to double punish the offence.
Eg. A penalty and a send off is a big penalty.
Whereas if it happens outside the box, then it’s probably a red card no penalty. In this case it was a penalty, no red card.

Theve deemed Pen is enough of a penalty so only a yellow is produced

Granted Suarez and Cavani etc came through. But they bypassed midfield so constantly and knocked balls into cavani and Suarez upfront. And watching those two up front, absolute workhorses and Suarez is a master of the dark arts and cavani is just a good Peter crouch.

That Uruguayan mentality was present when we played them, and they still have it. You knew you were in for a game. Nothing was easy with them.

When I was a player, those were the teams you hated playing. You didn’t mind playing a Hamilton Olympic or Magic, but up against a physical and scrapping team like Weston or Southy or Edgy, you knew you were in for a game. (Those attributes have changed since I played haha)!
We have never been better than Uruguay. We got lucky - simple as that in 2006. Recoba and Forlan were both world class players at the time - playing for big clubs and being paid huge money. Meet them when they are fit enough times and they destroy us.
A rough plane flight / quick turn around destroyed Uruguay. Our lads got a chartered QANTAS plane and arrived fresh and ready to play.
Even with all that we still only got through via the lottery of penalties.

Id argue our 2006 team had more Talent. Dukes Kewell Schwarzer Bresc etc. I only remember Recoba as a top talent from Uruguay

Stanny here is a list of the clubs Uruguay's team of 2006 were playing for at the time. Many of them were starters at big clubs and blokes like Silva, Forlan, and Recoba were elite in every sense of the word.

Diego Forlan was one of the best forwards in the world at the time - way better than Dukes. he played for Villareal
Zalayeta played as a striker for Juventus.
    Carini played for Inter Milan
    Lopez played for Cagilari
    Montero played for Juventus
    RodrĂ*guez played for Shalke
Diogo and Garcia played for Real Madrid
Perez played for Monaco in Ligue 1
    Dario Silva played for Sevilla
    Sosa played for Atletico Madrid
    Regueiro played for Valencia

Australia were nowhere near this standard.

That because he plays for a nation and team that rely on having the ball. I know it seems like bias but John Terry was great on the ball but if his team didnt have the ball he could defend and keep the team organised as well. Both Pique and Ramos have never learnt this Imo

He played injured. If he was fit absolutely no chance we would have progressed.

is anyone else quite glad to see Kasper Schmeichel go out

his twattery against Jedi (who ****ing slotted it past him) as well as all his carry on ever since makes me think that he's a bit of an arse

on a similar note, I think everyone in the world who isn't Brazillian (or is old enough to realise how big a prat Neymar is) are hoping Mexico go through tonight

His antics calling for VAR this morning were embarrassing. I’m not even sure what he was calling for, it was one of the clearest pens you’ll see.

ive mentioned before but if you go back and look at Brazil in qualifying when Neymar was out injured they were frightening.

Neymar doesnt fit in this team, yet no one dares drop him.

This is Coutinhos team, and if they allow him to run it they'll walk this Cup.
