It was unfortunate to concede in the 92nd minute but we also had two very good opportunities ourselves where we didn't score as well.

Teams going well, room for improvement and all - but compared to last season we look like Barcelona.

More importantly Ernie knows what he's doing. He took two players off on Sunday because they were cramping and he didn't want them to risk calf injuries as they can take six weeks or so to mend.

In the past our coaches would have let players continue until they required a stretcher.

Then you have the clubs engagement with the fans and free ticket offer... The clubs doing well why do we have to keep looking for faults within it ?
    That second goal

Quality touch from Taggart to give Duncan no chance

    But

    But

    But

Why was he able to have a free header ??

If Boogaard is up competing for the ball with him and he gets that finish away then just have to take your hat off to him

But when the bloke is unmarked and not put under any pressure then questions are entitled to be asked

It piss poor form to be so careless from our central defenders in the 91st minute when you defending a lead

You can gap on about poor clearances and lack of pressure on the bloke crossing the ball

    But
    But
    But

There is never any excuse for not having pressure on someone where Taggart was on the pitch

Never ever an excuse for not being near your man and pressurising the shit out of him

Never ever acceptable so stop tolerating it

No one is tolerating it, everyone has acknowledged that Boogard made an error or could have done better. It's not good enough from someone like him, instead you seem to tolerate other issues that lead up to the goals as they are not players you have an obvious bias against.
In the end, we are a mid table (at best) team in the A-League, if you expect no mistakes or errors or poor judgement then you are delusional!

When Topor ****s up he will cop it too

The lack of pressure and the poor clearance are minor minor issues that need addressing

The lack of pressure in our box marking their striker is an urgent issue that should never be happening

So far this season we have for 95% of the time defended well

The rest of the time our defending has been well below par for this level or any level of professional football for that matter

So far this season we have a penchant for needlessly conceeding corners far too often

We have looked poor at defending corners with Topor and Boogaard in the side I struggle to understand why this is do

Our keeper makes things worse by his reluctance to dominate his six yard box so that now every team is going to ping every corner into our 6 yard box until we get our shit together

The other issue is we been extremely slack at times dropping off the concentration levels for little reason

We also show signs of being exposed for pace at some point though so far we have gotten away with it

    You think I being harsh??

I just calling what is there

Yeah but if we start to prevent crosses it will solve half the issues with poor marking

So we going to cut out 100% of crosses??

    Probably not

How we going to cut out corners being crossed into the box??
You expecting the bloke on the mark 10 yards away to cut them all out??

How about we focus on the bit we can do which is mark our opposition tighly when in our penalty box ??

Because that what the really good teams do

Funny I read that now, I spotted her having lunch at Warners Bay today and wondered if she was in town for something like that.

Hopefully the women can do well, to have both teams doing well and playing entertaining football, and building on the popularity of the Matilda's, they should hopefully only add to the crowd numbers as there are a few double headers this year.

    https://www.newcastlejets.com.au/new...-ronald-vargas

The Newcastle Jets can confirm that Ronald Vargas has undergone surgery in Brisbane last night, following a broken and dislocated ankle sustained in the club’s Round 3 clash with the Roar. The incident, which saw the Venezuelan international tangle awkwardly with Matt MacKay in the 58thminute of the fixture, has left the club and the league in shock.

Jets’ boss, Ernie Merrick said the club’s medical team had moved quickly to ensure Ronald would receive the best possible care.

“We actually had one of Brisbane’s best surgeons, Dr Jeremy Bartlett sitting in the stands and he came down straight after the incident to help safely manage Ron’s ankle,” said Merrick.

“In consultation with Dr Neil Halpin, who was already on the phone from Newcastle, Dr Bartlett left the game and operated on Ron immediately and we can’t thank him enough for his efforts.

“This was a terrible accident and we’re all feeling for Ron, but it was no ones fault.”

Following his surgery, it’s expected that Ronald will fly back to Newcastle with teammates today to begin his road to recovery.

“The report from the surgeon has been positive at this stage, but with such a significant injury there are a lot of unknowns – Ron will recuperate and we’ll begin planning his rehabilitation.

“At this stage, we’re really not sure what a timeline for his return looks like, but we’d expect that he’ll be unavailable for most of the season.

Merrick said the coaching staff and the players would be with Ronald through every step of his rehabilitation.

“As you could see yesterday, the players and the staff have been really affected by this injury,” he added.

“He may have only been here for a short time, but Ron has already made an impression on all of us and that speaks to the quality of the guy – we’ll all be there to support him throughout his recovery.

“The outpouring of support from across Newcastle and the wider footballing community has been amazing, we appreciate it and I have not doubt that Ron will feel the same.

“I’d also like to acknowledge the Brisbane Roar medical team and event staff for their assistance; the tireless work of our physio Justin Dougherty, who spent much of the evening with Ron, and Joel Griffiths for his ongoing support last night.”

The club will provide further details on Ronald’s injury once they are known.
