I am concerned about how we will deal with their aerial threat. They really put the pressure on the young Phoenix keeper early on, he started flapping an punching and they scored three goals inside the six yard box.

    This will test Noah James.

Quick summary of it is that he has asked for 2 assistant managers and an extra physio to bring them in line with other clubs. We are the lowest spending club in the league, and until he gets the staff assurances he won't sign. Told the playing group to prepare that he may not be around next year

Interesting story about Hungarian great Ferenc Puskas and his links to South Melbourne and Australian football.

Remember that period clearly and remember Ange at left back. SBS covered the NSL superbly back then and Les and Johnny followed Puskas everywhere, getting smashed together a number of times.

Reading this article and the comments reinforced in Gardiners recent article, for me is really alarming in regards to our new owners.

Our assistant coach is leaving end of season, and all things considered, Robs asks are very basic and really should be met

As a fan I?ve remained extremely patient waiting for good things to happen at the jets, it?s slowly happening, maybe Stanton needs to be a bit more patient and not ruin the hard work done by many others behind the scenes

Still not convinced Stanton is worth keeping so not sure we should be that upset if he goes. His game management is still non existent and his subs game is really poor

Stanton calling the clubs bluff is pretty brave or daft. Bloke is in his first gig as head coach and would be better off just getting on with things be grateful a broke ass club like ours and gave him his shot. Discussing with players about his issues with club management is poor and something IMO would have been better left between him and the club. Players just want to play not be party to indifference's between the coach and management.

Unless he sees himself a shot at the Nix gig he should just pipe up and worry about getting the best out of the team with what rounds remain.

Right at this moment he's probably got the most leverage he's ever going to have at this club.

If he's ever gonna use it, has to be now.

If it doesn't work, then he'll be out like he would have been eventually anyway.

    I don't mind his strategy.

As Donald says, he hasn't got a very good hand, should prove his worth by making the six. I think they are winning games despite him, not because of him

But the issue isn’t with Stanton itself, it’s the club not willing to fund the bare essentials. If Stanton is out, it’s not cause of a lack of results, he’s already signed the extension, it’s cause the club isn’t willing to do what is needed to give coaches, Stanton or otherwise, as good a chance as possible.

And if Stanton does leave, with these circumstances being very public, the only coaches I can imagine us signing are more Papas and Stanton kinda of guys, dudes getting their first go at a major team, not anyone accomplished.

Until there is a statement from head office, he's not signed, and I haven't seen one. Reading between the lines, he doesn't think he will be

Talked about it on last weeks podcast, issues around the extra staff not so much the main issue as far as Im led to believe.
More to do around the over-representation of a certain player agent with contracted players. Read David Lowe's Herald article from last week.

This is good in the short term. The only clubs that will be disadvantaged are the 2-3 cashed up ones. Typical union whinging and not thinking big picture about making the league sustainable first and then getting wages moving again.

That $4.8 million average salary spend is scary as there must be at least a a few clubs not even spending the cap.

Con had no time for all those strange marquee exemptions that Sydney wanted brought in - one outside the cap is what is was when the league started.

    Backwards move in my opinion.

Forcing Perth Glory to only be able to sign one Brian Deane at a time is detrimental to the league as a whole.

Nonsense level just went way down.

    Sad.

The APL has never ever made a good decision, and I don't think they ever will. Despite the fact that they blew every cent they were given, this means that A league clubs will have next to no chance of competing in the ACL and so the owners have no chance of recouping some of their outlay. Why would you be an owner?
