Seriously why are so many people on this forum so bloody negative?

We're lucky to have a bloody A league club & I enjoy getting out to watch nearly every game live.

It's like people can't remember back longer than 2 seasons ago when you would turn up to every game and we would play negative boring football that never gave you a hope that we were going to get a result.

These days we play an entertaining attacking style of play where we do look like scoring goals.

Enjoy the game for what it is. Think to yourself, if you are so negative and derive so little enjoyment from following the game, why do you bother?

personally i derive much joy from how much the club stinks and how much it hates its fans especially me.

i also get a huge satisfaction out of seeing people get tied up in knots about a bunch of dudes in knockoff Knights kit kicking a ball around.

So i know you're not talking about me when commenting on the negativity. But just letting you know some of us out get many smiles from the Jets and everything surrounding it.

BROTHERLY LOVE INSPIRES JETS PLAYER’S KS FOUNDATION
We hear a lot about the power of sports stars to inspire and guide others, and one footballer is determined to make a difference in his adopted city.
Jets striker Kaine Sheppard has established his own foundation to help kids with autism, and other special needs, access the sport he loves.
And, in a case of brotherly love, his motivation has come from personal experience.
If you’d like to support the KS Foundation, or find out more, you can visit:

Very concerning to see the Salford City FC supporters charged for “racism”. Called the Northampton fans gypos and pikeys during the weekends match. If this sets a precedent there is gonna be a pretty busy holding cell at McDonald Jones when scum come to town.

interesting article yesterday (soz cant find link) regarding a report commissioned by the players union (i think) about what happened after the golden generation.

the article was barely a snippet of what it was about, and they usually just cherry pick the quotes that will cause a discussion. but they def highlighted that the players from that generation 'wanted it more' than the kids today, and that the players from that generation were way more intertwined with their ethnic roots (playing for their clubs, socialising with 'their' people).
It def smacked of a subtle way of pining for the good old days of embracing the ethnic angle and that getting kids more connected to their communities (rather than 'regions') is a better way for them to work harder.

It was one of the core beliefs of the league to get away from that, and to 'de-wog' it. the angle was always the violence, but as we've seen with these so-called homogenised teams dickheads are still gonna infiltrate it (in the same way NRL and AFL have dickheads too).

i wonder if this is some sort of future push to entice the Marconis/Olympics etc back into the new 2nd division and keep all their badges etc?
lotta money, and experience there, and its not like the new competition is gonna be flush with cash from day 1.

hopefully the full report becomes public, id love to know if the goal was to really find us another golden generation, or just poke the FFA with a big stick and start the public relations spin on setting up the 'new' A-League.

The Wog's copped a lot of shit at work or school back in the day. The weekend / football was there opportunity to enter into a competition where they weren't outnumbered or facing a set of rules designed to hold them back.

I'm too far removed from it now to know for sure but I guess that groups have just become more assimilated now and ethnicity either isn't as important or people have found it easier to get by simply letting go of it. I know in the case of my cousins who are Egyptian / Jewish their kids avoided playing soccer and played cricket and Aussie Rules instead to break the mold.

This isn't a new spin, it dates back to the NSL.

Do yourself a favour and get your hands on the 2003 Crawford Report, and read as much as you can around the subject. The report did not encourage the NSL to be folded, but rather the administration to be fixed and a board independent of SA (FFA) run the league. It did not recommend removing existing clubs. And it was spelt out that it was not a report that could be cherry picked what you did and didn't want to take from it. But, Frank Lowy and co cherry picked, used it as validation to remove the ethnics, did not get an independent board to run the thing, and basically followed thru on nothing the report recommended. If you don't want to read the whole Crawford Report, at least read articles like this one from people involved at the time:

The other system issues are we threw all our mangoes in the KNVB win-nothing basket, we lampoon genius coaches like Ange the moment we're onto a good thing, sports scientists are telling kids not to do extras after training, and rego & insurance fees are so thru the roof that particularly in our regional areas rugby league and afl are getting free or near-free regos while football are charging more and more each year. We're watching the rest of Asia, and the football world in general, just bypass us in the meantime.

Con cantera y afición, no hace falta importación. Let the boys play. Nurture our multicultural nation. And set up systems that don't let examples like Josip Simunic happen again in future.
    OK

    cheers for the info.

yeah i just found it weird that a report that was seeking to wonder why we've regressed seemed to be a lot of peoples opinions about the good old days. they even pretty much lamented that the '06 side was an anomaly and that we are actually now right where we should be. i find that astounding that anyone would promote that level of thinking.

there was a lot of "the kids are over coached" (whatever that means) and "they dont work hard enough".

i always look to Japan as a marker on where we should be as a national team and where individually our players are. we are about 30 years behind their program and it shows.

Ask the kids parents who participated in the Spanish IBERCUP recently about what they saw and found out about junior football.

Over training does not exist. Play to win, always train hard year round is the mantra. Though id like to see them train in our summer.

Japan has five times our population, plus a much larger economy - yet at World Cups they have never been past the round of 16 and 50% of the time they fail to get out of their group.
We need to set the bar a lot higher than Japan I think. Plenty of smaller countries with lesser budgets a lot more successful than Japan at world cup level.

South Korea do just as well as Japan but we rarely hear people saying we should be more like them. Not sure why that's the case.

I'd just like to see kids playing football in the park. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a bunch of kids just playing, jumpers for goalposts, without the need for a coach there. Is this not a thing anymore? Every successful country will have a historic culture of just kids playing on the street, or in the park, or in caged pitches on housing estates. Kids just turn up and join in, and age doesn't matter. That's how kids develop at an early age. The coaching comes later, but the basic skills - and toughness - come from playing against the bigger, better kids for hours every day, all year round.

I agree - I am not sure why Japan should be seen as someone to aspire to? Look at places like Croatia - 4m population, country barely 30 years old, yet reach the World Cup final and semis in '98. They have the street football culture, and then pluck the best kids into club football to develop. Inevitably, the best players then go abroad and the national team benefits. That's the way forward, and not too far away from happened with the '06 squad. How many of those kids played on the streets, and then went abroad? A fair few I'd guess.

because its the closet example we have to our own country.

When Japan started its overhaul of football it was neither the most popular played sport amongst juniors nor was it the dominant sport at a professional level.
Croatia has that infrastructure set up. Australia doesnt, Japan didnt. Japan had to build from a zero base essentially. We have a lot of work to do just to get to the base of the footballing superpowers. We cant just wave a magic wand and make soccer the #1 sport in this country. Until we even get to that stage theres no point looking to emulate the big boys.

As for population (as Dunster brought up) for every Uruguay and Croatia, theres a China and USA. Again, we want to all be like Uruguay and Croatia, but realistically we are more like USA and China. Japan have done what we need to do (successful league, #1 sport amongst all the key demos).

Also, its a wee bit cheeky saying Croatia is only 30 years old. Without going into the politics of it all, Croatia didnt just break away from the old country and decide to start playing football. they brought a lot of culture and history with them.

Sorry m8 this pickup game is for 13 year olds only. At half time the regulations dictate it actually goes back to 11 years olds only. You would know this if your kid was in the KNVB Academy system from 7 years, paying $3,400 per year for shinpads, or if your kid hasn't been included in that system by at least 9yo then you should just tell them to give up already as it is too late. Also note as an unregulated pickup game, if your kid gets injured and surgery costs $6,000 you'll have to pay for the full amount and not get the sweet return of $348 that you would have if insured during a regulated game, so your loss there bud. By the way those freddo frogs you've been selling to the crowd that has been massing to watch the game, you're going to have to halve the profits with the girls game 2 fields across that has no one watching it, it's not fair that you had a market to sell to and they didn't. And don't you dare pronounce the kids names the way they are meant to be.

VAR check - play on #jogabonito
    OK

The point was that the country needed to rebuild the sporting structures in the country after the break-up, and over the 30 years have managed to do this successfully through a systemic approach. Japan has been pushing football hard for a similar period of time (with much greater resources) and what have they achieved? The difference, I think, is that football is cultural in Croatia - kids just go out and play it - whereas in Japan and Australia that doesn't really seem to be the case. Where are places which encourage kids to just go along and kick a ball around with other kids for free?
