I couldn't believe Manuel was unwanted in the betting given his perfect record at Caulfield.

Kementari is a great horse - but not at Caulfield. He's had four starts there and is yet to win. It's a graveyard for good horses over the 1400m and 1600m courses - especially if you have to chase a horse left out in front with plenty left in the tank and I thought Manuel would be thereabouts on the turn as he usually is. Again, it's a graveyard for good horses - Even Kingston Town couldn't get it done there and I've lost count of the heavily backed failures over the course in the Caulfield Guineas as well.

pete moody had an interesting tweet about the 1400 at caulfield being downhill for a long way, where speed horses on inside draws can often get out can keep rolling and make it hard for anything else behind
harder for the short courses

It used to happen in the Caulfield Cup as well with the top milers being very competitive over the 2400m. But I believe they changed the course in the last 25 years or so meaning it's not as much of an issue now.
