Stumbled across jets training yesterday. Noticed that Eli Babalj was still training with them. Maybe they are keeping him around incase they can offload someone like petratos. Eli's hold up play and body work is still great and he was getting around the field a lot better than I thought he would.
Beka looks a very smart striker with his runs and link up play. Looks like he will spend a lot of games trying to draw big defenders out of place to create space midfield runs.
Overall the game play that I watched looked very free and fluid in terms of positioning with the ball and retrieving the ball once lost was very urgent.

Where are they training TJ ?, Haven't seen them at Speers Pt in quite a while. Thought they must have changed to a enclosed location somewhere due to Covid protocols eh.

    Confirmed via Email.

I'm actually ok with his signing. Sounds like they made him jump through hoops to earn his spot, and if I remember him properly, he could be a good Plan B. If we can't break teams down with pressure and pace, he gives us some height and ability to pull the ball down and link with others. Plus, surely his finishing must be as good or better than Roy's last season.

So by my count, we have a full squad - yet we are rumoured to be signing a defensive midfielder.

Either there is a contract classified as a scholarship (Noah James perhaps?) or someone is going to leave (Kanta retire?)

Jimmy Gardiner is tweeting that he still expects the midfielder to be announced this week, and like i suggested above a player could be put on a scholarship contract or Kanta becomes and injury waiver.

The other alternative is that a player departs.

Either way, i think this is the last season for kanta and probably Hoff too.

Quite probably for Kanta. I'll reserve judgement to the end of the season, but Hoff could still have a role is my current thinking.

Not only that, but there is again the bulk of the squad that is only signed for the one season. If we over achieve, there is every chance the bones of the team could be picked apart immediately.

    It's a double edged sword.

'Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce exciting prospect Lucas Mauragis has signed a new two year contract. Mauragis, a left-sided player, who signed a scholarship deal for the current season just some months ago...'

unless it got changed when he signed the new contract it seems to be lucas

    Thanks for that effort mate.
Yeah I was thinking that we only had one spot to fill and it seemed odd that no one had been let go or roster shuffling before Eli signing
