    22/23 A-League Men | Match Day 05 | Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets

Victory isn't off to a hot start this season but we looked bang average against the Wanderers so I'm quite unsure how this one is going to play out.

Elsey and Mikeltadze return to the starting squad and Sotirio gets the starting spot over Buhagair which is a good shout between the two

Surprised there wasn’t a red card.
Surely somebody called the ref a cheat after that.

The refereeing in this league is becoming a joke. I try and ignore comments about a Melbourne/Sydney bias but how else do you explain decisions like that. And for VAR not to intervene. Wow

The worst thing is it's not a one off. It's every single week now. Almost every game is blighted by terrible refereeing. Maybe I've had too many beers ffs

I mean, there’s contact. But I think it’s an absolute joke that he basically jumps to the floor once he realises. As opposed to contact that impedes.

Hard for VAR to overturn. But also, would’ve been hard to give if ref ignored the diving piece of ManUre.

Sure there's contact, I agree. But the fact he's taken a few steps and then dived shows it wasn't enough to bring him down. It was blatantly obvious he dived well after the contact. Maybe according to the rules it's the correct decision. But if so then the rules are wrong, that's a blight on the game.

Anyway. We're looking a lot sharper this week. Well and truly in the game.

Jets at their best right on half time. Lucky VAR helped 🙄

Blatant handball. Should have been given a yellow card.

Nanni is a disgrace. Hopefully karma strikes and he does an acl or similar.

    Jets are trash.

Yeah don't think we're in it anymore. Hopefully we keep it under 7

We seem to have given up. Annoying to see. A few things go against us and we stop attacking and just start booting the ball to no-one. That and the shocking defending will be ****ing hard for Papas to fix. Gonna cost him his job I think

Our defence is not capable of playing out from the back.

They are either passing across the back or receiving the ball facing their own goal.

Pappas needs to go to plan B because the opposition know we can't cope with a half decent press.

Great defending tonight. Jenkinson and Natta
Playing bad football in general, 0 shots on target, 2538 back passes.

He will not. We knew what we were getting when we signed him. It either starts to work or it doesn't and he is gone end of thus season IMO

Popovic has a good record but geez his teams play an ugly brand of football.
