99 times out of 100 the striker sees whats about to happen and changes his run, doesn't swing a foot, or jumps, to avoid the collision and protect the keeper you ****.

Smeltz struggled to focus on the remainder of the match after the incident as Birighitti's wellbeing was all that occupied his thoughts but says the freak incident won't stop him from challenging a goalkeeper for the ball in games.

My sentiments exactly, it would be fair if the MRP gave him the same time out of the game as Birra. If he got the same time out as Neil Young, he'd be banned for life. I don't think the MRP will be that kind to the game though. If Smeltz doesn't change his style of play there will be further incidents like this.

From my understanding, all the ref has to say is that he didn't see any contact between them, which would be backed up by him restarting play with a drop ball.

I can't see how if he saw the contact, he didn't award a free kick, even if he thought it was accidental.
