If you are unable to travel to the game in Sydney, please come down to the District Park Tennis Club in Broadmeadow and watch the game LIVE. The Tenzo is now our permanent venue for both home AND away Newcastle Jets fixtures.
I know its three weeks away but what do you blokes think is our best lineup for the first game of the year?

    I would have

    -------------Birraz-------------

    Neville---Jaliens---Chapman----Goodwin

    ---------Caravella---Zadkovich---------

    -----Virgilli--------Burns-------Taggart-

    -----------------Heskey--------------

At this stage i feel this is our strongest team, however there will be an inevitable injury/**** up during this next three weeks.

Don't think Burns will be too much of a defensive player Blackmac

Haven't you heard? It's GvE's new tactic, says that reducing the number of players increases the space to pass the ball around in the backline, thus making a more efficient team powered by good injins.

Whilst Vigilli has been going well in pre-season I still think he is an impact player that is best suited at running at tired defences. When he comes on with half an hour to go and can rip it at tiring legs he leaves them for dead. When all are fresh at the start of a game his impact is less. Hence I would look at moving him on with 30 minutes to go:

    -------------Birraz-------------

    Neville---Jaliens---Chapman----Goodwin

    ---------Caravella---Brilliante---------

    -----Burns------Zadkovich-------Taggart-

    -----------------Heskey--------------

If Brown can get injury free and some fitness then happy to see him come into Zads position and Zad to drop back a bit.

30 minutes to go bring Virgilli on for one of the defensive midfielders, slide Zads back and Burns into the middle.

    Birra
    Beard - Chapo - Aliens - Goodwin
    Xerox - Rubez
    Virgili - Burns - Taggart
    Esky

Burns will play in the middle, surely? He's talked in his interviews (or maybe it was jerks insider) that he prefers playing as the #10, so in the centre would make sense.

I know it's not his natural position but the Beard is a far superior option to Neville at the back, isn't he? And if you put the Beard in midfield, you bench either our captain or the guy that has the most creative brain out of our defensive midfielders.

Would almost prefer Goodwin on the right of the attacking three and play Gallaway at left back. That would stick with the dutchy method of having your wide players cut in onto their prefered feet with overlapping FB's.

    Poor Mitchell.

    Huge Aliens > Chapman > Regan > Kanta > Gallaway > slobs > Mitchell

Might move him above slobs... depends on whether or not slobs is left footed.

I'm surprised so many people are using Zad as a more forward lying midfielder.

Imo last year when he did his best work he was more box to box and sitting deeper, not in behind the strikers.

    Aaron Ramsey style.

Somehow (), fourfourtwo had him as their "shooting from distance" expert in one of their features.

Playing a 3-6-1 formtion. Goody and Zads on the Flanks. Feel both have the engine to get up and back. Hooley in the middle would like to see him further forward but too much firepower already there. Taggz to play up front with HESKEY TIME playing deeper with Burns . Feel HESKEYTIME offers shit setting up play at this level and will be a lot harder to mark coming into the box later and we will benefit more having him involved a little more.

On the subs bench have named some firepower with KALE to come on and tear Smurfs a new arsehole

    GK > BIRRAZ
    CD > ALIENS
    CD > CHAPO
    CD > REAGAN
    RWB > ZADS
    LWB > GOODY
    DM > BEARD
    DM > HOOLE
    AM > BURNS
    AM > HESKEY
    FW > TAGGZ

    Subs
    Chilli
    Zenon
    Kale
    Kanta
    Solari

    STILL IN NEWY
    Bridges>>> Mitchell>> BK >>> Brown >> Galloway

id rather him further forward because honestly he isnt much of a ball player and loses it too often in our third. let him win tackles further up the field when we inevitably lose the ball.

    You make a good point.

That's why I want him to move to Right Back where his ball playing skills are mostly out of the ****ing way
