In no way am I defending them, but I don't know if we have all the facts.

If the players are paid by the FFA grant, when is that transferred to the Jets? How closely is the business running hand-to-mouth that it can't afford to pay the wages without the grant? That's certainly not an ideal situation for any business.

I continue to think this is simply a matter of the herald pushing a "convenient" story. But Murphy will be judged by his actions and from the appearances, he hasn't passed this one.

I certainly feel for the players and the staff. I'd be pissed off if I were in that situation.

My understanding is that the ATO has cesed the FFA grants and Tinkler has to pay the players from his own pocket.
However this instance does seem to be storm in a teapot as it seems it's just a banking issue.

Perhaps the same banking issue that occurred last month?

In the means of being fair, the club would have been aware the ATO order still exists and the grant would have been seized then planning should have been in place to pay the players and staff on time.

Mitchell Murphy on ABC this morning, some of the usual smoke and mirrors but a few interesting points...and a few veiled swipes at previous management. Missed the first few minutes which would have touched on the pay issues.

    * Tinklers external financial issues are separate to those of the Jets organisation - Murphy is not involved with other Tinkler dealings.
    * Phil Stubbins was not responsible for "most" of the squad - he will be given the opportunity to build his own squad from scratch.
    * The club has a culture of poor decision making based on "knee-jerk reactions" to media stories.
    * We are in a major long term rebuild of the club.
    * The club is in serious negitiations with new players for next season, with top quality strikers and a creative midfielder the main targets.
    * Murphy has sought counsel with several sports CEOs around the country.
    * The club needs to reconnect with the community, starting with formally introducing all of the Emerging Jets to the crowd next match.
    * Murphy has regular contact with the FFA executive, some he has known personally since his VPL days.
    * Some fluff about how brave the squad has been recently, being under-staffed etc and that last Saturday was "disappointing".

That was the crux of it - discuss.

Thanks for summing it up for us, mate..
The problem is, he isn't saying the one thing that we all want to hear:
    * Stubbins is being sacked ASAP

No, was very clear he will be given the off-season and the start of next season to turn things around with squad "capable of playing finals football".

That then creates an issue where if he is sacked we are back to square 1 where we have a squad that the new coach doesn't want.

A good coach should be able to get A result with a team even if it's not his squad.

Mind you, we all laughed at Perth for sticking with Kenny Lowe....

Simon will be loved in Newy for his all action throwing his weight around style.

    Gypo or not

Will happily take anyone in the cu nt bracket. The thing with cu nts is they care about winning and losing. These players we have now don't.

Even when they get the lead they ain't running through brick walls for the shirt or the fans to get the win.

The Muppet who is soon to be 1 from 22 is a separate ****ing issue but these players need to take some responsibility for their efforts

What utter bullshit from Murphy, leaving the entire Stubbins/squad argument to the side as we all know he had a hand in signing one of our greatest ever recruits in Welsh and funny how so many of our recruits after he signed had played for adelaide, hell even our one new recruit is coming from where?

The fact that the tax office has the garnishee order in place and the jets via tinkler have to pay their players using Gerry Harvey's credit card says a lot about how separate Tinklers troubles are, Murphy is just the new Middleby, the local sales rep for the Singapore bullshit factory.

Can't wait for the next loss, and the next and the next, its the only hope I have now that FFA will eventually get involved.

Can't wait for another season of Stubbins logic and tactics, he can complain about his squad all he wants but the fact is he controls game day tactics, and they have been lacking in every regard for months. He controls game day subs and they have never been so negative, we legit start out hoping for a draw, then go into desperation mode once that is gone.

    Wages put heat on Tinkler
    By ROBERT DILLON
    March 18, 2015, 9:45 p.m.

NEWCASTLE Jets players finally received their monthly wages on Wednesday as the scrutiny surrounding owner Nathan Tinkler escalated.

Newcastle’s players were paid 48 hours late for the second consecutive month.

They are supposed to be paid on the 15th of every month, or if that falls on a weekend, the following Monday.

But, as was the case in February, their March pay was delayed by two days after the club encountered what Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy described as ‘‘an internal cash-flow matter’’.

The embarrassing situation, which has angered Newcastle’s players and the Professional Footballers Association, has again raised the question of whether Tinkler has the funds to keep bankrolling the Jets.

Billionaire Gerry Harvey loaned Tinkler $1million last month, and Tinkler reportedly put the money into the Jets.

But an estimated $400,000 in unpaid superannuation to Jets players and staff, dating back more than a year, remains outstanding.

Sacked assistant coach Clayton Zane is understood to be yet to receive a pay-out, while unwanted former Socceroo David Carney is also waiting for the club to produce an offer that convinces him to terminate the final season of his contract.

The next month could determine if Tinkler can pay the players on April 15.

The one-time billionaire is facing a series of legal battles involving creditors, starting next week.

The Jets face a wind-up application by IT provider Reddog Technology that is due back in the Sydney Supreme Court on Monday.

Tinkler, his former confidant Troy Palmer and Patinack chief financial officer Tony Marshall are then expected to appear in the Adelaide Supreme Court next week to answer questions about a $4.7million debt owed to the Australian Tax Office.

Ashurst Australia lawyers are also trying to liquidate Tinkler Group Holdings Administration. The matter will be heard on March 31.

And last week US-based investment bank Jefferies Group lodged seven more wind-up applications aimed at liquidating Patinack Farm and its associated companies.

Behind the scenes there is mounting concern inside Football Federation Australia headquarters that the game’s governing body will have to intervene and remove Tinkler as Jets owner, just as the NRL ousted him from the Newcastle Knights in June.

Not for the first time, FFA chief executive David Gallop has warned Tinkler he needs to honour his commitments.

Gallop was quoted in News Limited publications on Wednesday saying: “The position remains pretty simple: If a current owner pays the bills, he will be the owner of the club. And if he doesn’t, he won’t be.

“There’s no question that not paying the players is a clear indication the owner can’t meet his obligations, and we would move quickly in that environment.’

Wonder if Gerry extended another $1m line of credit for his boy, hope he realises the Jets have no assets to strip.

Whether the Jets have assets or not is irrelevant.

Gerry has to be getting something out of the deal.

As long as Tinkler is keeping his end up Gerry will keep throwing him a bone from when asked as he is getting his bit for **** all effort

Yeah posted in another thread but Gerry said on TV last night that he'd lent Tinks' about $60m so far and that debt is down to $6 or $7million.

Harvey had no concerns or cares about getting his money, and if you know anything about the bloke you'd know that his ass will be more than covered from any of Tonks' bullshit.

Harvey is a very very smart man.
