Last time we won a derby we won it because we got stuck in. Zads launched at Rose.

The one with the bigger fire in the belly wins the games.

Until we get this into our heads we won't win **** all.

You have to want it more. Our blokes just don't get it and haven't got it for ****ing years
We were less than a minute away from winning and they got lucky with a hoof into the box. Nice try.

Our problem today was too many dinky little passes around the edge of the box and not enough players willing to pull the trigger. I'm sure a few rash challenges early on would have changed that?

I get what you are saying Halo but you are probably over-analysing what "fired up" means.

To me "fired up" means you are basically showing you care about your own pride and the pride of the club you are representing and that these scumbags will not run roughshod over.
I will never forget the '08 Grand Final, one of the first exchanges Hutch goes in hard on Griff in an overzealous challenge with probably the intent to injure him and at the very least to get one up in the psychological battle by intimidation, Tarek comes in and grabs Hutch by the throat and basically set the tone for the rest of the match with his action in defending Griff......hey today you will not get the better of us you filthy grubs!!!

That's what "fired up" means and the intent is usually set in the initial stages to make it clear to the opposition that you mean business today and will not be intimidated....then hopefully you can focus on the football and your game plan.
Yeah good point but I'd like to think they had that attitude every game.

Did we actually deserve to win??

Easy answer to that question isn't it.

They got lucky with a hoof in the box you say??

I would argue we got lucky to be in front as we deserved to be behind

Same shit with a bloke who used to play for us by the name of Joel Griffiths.

You are successful when you have blokes who will do anything it takes to win.

I was just thinking it was a glaring oversight on your part to not use the most logical example

Were you watching the same game as i was. I hate to say it but MFKS is bang on the money on this one.
I don't get it to be honest, a team with ten men playing away from home dominate the game.

They dominated, but I saw that more of a reflection of the fact we had no one to bring into midfield. Once Leonardo went off, we had nothing in the mids.

Carney is a horrible number 10, and it also took away our options down the side once we put him there.

Yes we didn't look hungry, but I think the result and performance is down to the fact we have no midfield depth,m so with the couple of injuries we have the midfield is full of people who have no idea how to play there. thats what hurt us the most.

If Leonardo had stayed on, and carney stayed out wide, I think the result should have been very different.

Yep, he can be a bit quiet in some games but he always steps up and delivers in big games, like the Big Blue last night.
He was like a rabid pit bull and when the game was in the balance at 3-2 he stepped up and took matters into his own hands.
That hunger to score goals and to win is insatiable to players like Berisha, losing is not an option.

I totally agree with this, but I think my initial point was that players should be hungry every game. Berisha doesn't only turn it on for derbies.

I agree with you Sammy. Our biggest weakness this season has been depth. As soon as we have a few injuries and we shuffle the cards, we seem to lose our gameplan. We hopeless against Sydney FC because of all the changes and the same thing happened last night when Leonardo went off. We were starting to get on top before the red card.

No I don't think we deserved to win, but we could have if we didn't switch off, which is what I was getting at pre-game. They keep their concentration for the full 90 minutes then they win the game. 9/10 that hoof into the box at the end of the game results in nothing. We lost focus by giving away some stupid fouls at the end and not holding the ball. Had the Mariners come out and blitzed us early a la Melbourne City then I would totally agree about not having the right mentality for a derby but that didn't happen. I felt like we started a little slow but started to get on top before the red card. Carney was causing havoc down the right, which seem to always end with playing one too many passes at the edge of the box - that seemed to be the plan though as they were practicing those in a warm up drill. Either way, Leo went off, Carney was moved central and basically we lose both Leo and Carney in one foul swoop and we had no idea how to get through them. Despite that, we still take the lead with 7 minutes to go.

He was relatively quiet against us a few weeks back.

Yes they should be hungry every game but some players like Berisha just seem to thrive on the big games with the big crowds and just find that little bit extra

Maybe we needed a bigger crowd after all, it was our lowest of the season

Suppose it was a little wet for the "fairweather" type supporters from both around here and Gypo territory
