Assuming I can re-sign certain people, this is what my ideal starting 11 would look like come the start of next season. Also, I'd start running a 4-2-3-1, similar to what we were running near the end of the season
GK - Kennedy (Did pretty well near the end of the season, may as well keep him till he hugely costs us a game)
LB - Carney (Move him here, which is his normal position I believe anyway. He can play wing-back and do about the same stuff he was doing for us at the end of the season)
CB - Jaliens (One of the better internationals we've had, did amazing last season
CB - Mitchell/Regan/Chapman (All 3 were very good in the runs they had this season, Chapman at the start, Regan in the middle and Mitchell in the end. Don't really care which one of the three starts)
RB - Neville (Was doing really well before the injury, hopefully that doesn't go away after the injury.)
CM - Zads (Dude is a beast)
CM - Brilliante (Player of the season, probably will get signed up but hopefully we can keep him. I like him better in a more midfield role)
CAM/FW - Heskey (Did so much better in this role then as a striker, now his aerial skills and quality footwork and passing can be used much more effectively)
RW - Griffiths (3 goals in 8 games, set up plenty of chances and was overally just quality on the pitch. No reason not to sign him back up)
LW - Burns (Was amazing near the end of his run and apparently gets no game time over in Korea, I would personally love him back)
ST - Taggart (16 goals, could have been a whole lot more. No reason not to put him here)

Thoughts on this squad? I genuinely believe with a good coach backing it, this could easily get us into the finals, and win us the league

    Pretty good.

But I fear others will move further forward than us.

I ain't that impressed with the side as it isn't much better than what we currently have

Though what does concern me is the 6 man defence 4 attackers and no recognised midfield you wish to deploy.

Complete mistake on my part, Zads and Brilliante are meant to be CM, not CB. Sorry for the typo, I'll fix it now

But it's not the players! Its the coach! That was the whole excuse behind sacking GvE, yeah?

Fact of the matter is, you can have the best players possible, but under the wrong coach they won't win games. We need to go down the Roar, CCM and ADL route and splash money on a good coach, i.e. not Zane.

    GK- Kennedy
    LB- Carney
    CB- Kew
CB- New Signing (maybe Neill just to stir up the member)
    RB- Zads
    CM- Kanta
    CM- New Signing (Marquee)
    RM- Hoole
CAM- Heskey (if he will take a pay cut I'm assuming you could fit 250k-300k in the salary cap)
    LM- Burns
    ST- Griffo

Assuming Bread and Tagz will be gone next Season

We currently have an old shit slow hack who likes giving away costly penalties in Mitchell. I am sure he could be signed again cheaper than Luca$h and his exorbitant wages

I can appreciate what people are seeing with Heskey but in my opinion he isn't our #10 option. If he can recover from his knee injury I would like to see Mitch Cooper get a run in there. But that's a big if.

Burns, Griff and Carney are MUST re-signs because we need some experience in the team around the yong kids but ALSO some mid-age prime of their career players like Burns.

This was who I was originally gonna put there but Goodwin is so inconsistent. I understand he doesn't get consistent game time so you could chalk it up to that, but he had the same problem the season before when he was getting somewhat consistent game time. You're also right about Carney not being the best, I personally prefered him over Gallaway and Goodwin. I'd say of all positions we need a new player in, LB is the one I would focus on the most.

I agree this is the position we need to focus on.

Goodwin is still learning the game like much of our squad. Given some decent coaching I think we will see him have a better season. I think next year will be his year much like Scotty Nev (minus the injury).

What are the thoughts on Engelaar? I have heard that Heart wont re sign him as marquee.
He is all class, with a good pre season to get his fitness back up, he can completely dominate this league
Surely there would be clubs after him?

Were you thinking as a marquee? I'd be less likely to sign him as a marquee but under the cap I think he would be good. However, are we too well stocked in the centre with Zads, Caravella, Brillante, Kantarovski and Pepper? Would his signing limit the potential to bring through Oxborrow? But in saying that, if he's better than the options we already have then it would be good -it would then be a matter of off loading someone from the list.

The bloke is better than all those blokes we have you listed.

If he can be signed under the cap at a reasonable price then bring him in.
