Kanta has injury issues which would worry any club regardless of the quality of the league.
Oxborrow is too young / immature to even be considered starting material for the Jets.
Wheelhouse is playing State league without dominating and nowhere near his best.
    Zads probably yes.
Caravella, unlikely - but he wasn't in hot demand in the A-league either.

I remember reading salary data for the MLS and was shocked at how little their players are paid in comparison to players in the A-league.

That would tend to explain why not many A-league players would bother going to the MLS - or indeed would be wanted given their asking prices.

I think someone hear said Mooy and Williams were getting over 300k a season at Melbourne.

Hard to imagine any other country offering them that sort of coin - regardless of league quality.

What ever happened to Brodie Mooy? Another of gve favourites. One of the worst players!! Just shows how ridiculous his selections were.

In 2011 Mooy travelled abroad to England to trial with League 1 club Crewe Alexandra, he subsequently fractured his knee against Wigan and a bone tumour was discovered in his knee during recovery. Mooy has since recovered from surgery to remove a benign tumor and retired to concentrate on studying for a law degree entering university and studying full-time.

A rookie Defensive midfielder from the youth team being forced to play as a lone striker. Vintage GVE.

He went ok in youth league though. One of the better players in his preferred position.

$3.625m a season is the reason Timmy went to the MLS. Quality of League has nothing to do with it.

Lots of money on offer for the top players but sfa is paid for the majority of MLS players.

Yes, I've seen MLS games and I usually enjoy them. Did you watch many games last season? It's improving more quickly than the A-League, in my opinion.

Note the qualifications in my post:
    - a strong MLS club, of which Red Bulls is undoubtedly one, is a step up from an A-League club.
    - Johnny Steele was not a squaddie. He was a first-team player at New York.

The fact stubbins can ask carney what Steele is like exactly makes me feel I can trust this signing until proven differently, more scouting gone into this than a lot of previous signings by gve and co

Still doesn't make sense. Care to explain how the following is me being a "sook"?

I wouldn't say Vignaroli was below standard, wasn't he one of our best players before hunter stadium caused him to do his ACL?

And you're right, let's see how he goes. Giving him a 2 year deal as an import is a big call.
Being positive on Vigs, and agreeing with whoever it was that we'll see how he goes, is hardly "sook" material. And giving an import a 2 year contract is a big call, no arguments.

You're just making yourself seem foolish with these two posts.

Don't know where this started and I wouldn't think the bloke who told me knew anyone inside but I got told this arvo that the jets have spoken to tom juric regarding aus marquee.
I personally don't believe it but thought I may as well post to give something new to talk about.

    This is quite true.

I really can't see why anyone is complaining about this signing. Steele was in the last year of his contract at NYRB on 130k US but wasn't getting a run this season.

So at 28 he comes to Australia for say 150k and 2 year contract. Carney would have told him the potential in the A-League to dominate like he has. The Jets get a good foreign player without spending too much. This is win win as far as I can see.

When Carney & Steele played together they played LB & LM (both can play either position). I am expecting they will do the same.

This is a good quality player who will play 1st XI at not too much coin. What is not to like. I am still expecting a DM and maybe a striker to be signed

Timmy C went stateside because he wouldn't get half the coin here he is currently on at NYRB

Hopefully Stubbins does assemble a good squad, but I know that I'd prefer Burns or Carney coming off the bench, as opposed to Goodwin or Virgilli. Either way, hope Stubbins knows what he's doing.

I said that we COULD use the marquee on either Burns or Carney. But what's to stop them, plus Griff and Flores starting? Chuck Carney to LB (he's a better option than Gallaway) and have Burns at LM. And it may be the predictable route, but when's there's so much previous evidence pointing towards Middleby being the cause of issues, it's not a huge leap.

Would Burns have been a starter here? Probably not, but signing him would have been a statement saying that we wanted to assemble a strong squad, not just a strong first XI. Again I'll say, if Griffo or Carney gets injured who would I rather, Virigilli or Burns? I'd take Burns precisely because he would be a starter at any other club. We haven't used our Australian marquee yet, so what's to stop him or Carney being the marquee, and the other being under the cap? If City can fit Duff under their cap, we can fit Burns.

As for Burns wanting to come back here, tbh I don't know why any of them would sign for us anyway. We have an owner who doesn't want us and would drop us if he could, an incompetent management structure headed by a bloke who's previous experience was to run another football club into the ground and a stadiums who's pitch which is worse than most all age fields around the region. Griffo especially deserves better than that.

Tbh, we should have made a spot for Burns, Griff (much as I love him) doesn't have many years left, while Burns is proven at this level, and potentially should have taken the spot of someone like Virgilli who has 1 good game every blue moon. Burns or Virgilli? I'd take Burns. Cap isn't an issue, we don't have any marquees.

And Sydney's fourth was a good hit, but Moss could have done better I reckon.
I can go and get more evidence for you if you would like.
You sound like a 1930's record stuck on repeat, full of boring repetitive jargon that makes one want to neck them self.
    Change the record FFS

As I said you come across as a 10yr old sook that hasn't got their way so they spit the dummy. Get back to the church league, put on you're Keeper gear (we all know you're one of those overweight expert Keepers that has no idea but looks the part) and stop whining.

Does that clear it up for you?

    Cheers mon.

And premy, Surely you have better things to do than trawl back through the back 3-4 months worth of foz to find things to have a shot at someone over. If it was the photo thread, sure but seriously, you took my comment that was willing to give Steele a go, but acknowledged the fact that in a league where the number of foreigners is capped, giving one a 2 year deal is a big call, into abusing me. Mate, get a life, or keep doing what you're doing, it's quite entertaining
