I think a Jazz Bass would cover off most styles of music pretty well.

My daughter plays a fender 70’s reissue Jazz. Awesome playing instrument

Don’t write off some of the squire stuff. Some of it’s not too bad.

It will be played through an interface so I don't need an amp. Any suggestions ?
    Music to my ears!!!
Well, basically yeah.. (Or as I used to cop by my old tech-metal band-mates "you play the equivalent of the electric triangle", haha)

    Few questions first:
How serious are these recordings? What sort of style are we talking? What interface will you be using? Have you thought about (or need) 5 or more strings?

I've got an Ibanez custom 5, Spector Euro 5LX and an American Spector walnut NS2J...
I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a decent priced Warwick Thumb, or as we have discussed before, a Warwick Dolphin Pro.. Or even just a nice Fender Jazz/Precision Deluxe..

I agree with Evo and Sammy, that a Fender Jazz would most likely suit and cover most types of music and sounds that you would be wanting to play..

I have a Fender Jazz that I love, one of the Mexican made ones through so was only around $1000.
I didn't realise you played bass Evo.. Good stuff!
Do you find your Fender Jazz heavy? Does it have a thick neck? What amp do you have??

Pick up my Les Paul, no fender Jazz will ever feel heavy.

I know you were soft (and getting softer around the edges) but man, harden up.

    Thanks Evo, sammy, and Bon.

Recordings are Pop / Rock demos I started in the early to mid 80's that I never got around to completing
I have a Steinberg AXR4 interface and use Amplitube 4 with Fender, Mesa Boogie, and Ampeg Plugins / Simulators.
I also Have Cubase 9.5 and other software for mastering and so on.

Not looking to release anything - more a case of unfinished business with myself.

Nah it's not too bad, heavier than my other bass but pretty reasonable. Neck is pretty thick.

I've got a 200w Randall amp but mainly use my 30w Orange one these days.

I would have said red neck, not thick neck, if I was talking to you mate...

    Really?
I really like the wood grain style guitars..
I haven't tried their new range of basses yet, but I reckon they look pretty sweet..

Anyone ever tried playing with the soulless looking acrylics?

Always looked odd to me - what do they sound like?

There is an acrylic ampeg bass at the moment I have my eye on.

Some acrylic guitars/basses sound brilliant, others are just dark and muddy. Biggest issue is the weight, they are really heavy.

You probably know this already but Ampeg is Yamaha - so it's always going to be top quality.

I went looking at Basses on Monday - and after playing a few decided a short scale version will probably be the way I'll go.

    Short scale version of...... ?

That cause you are used to the smaller size of a guitar? Looking for a phat tone with thicker gauged strings? Are you a child with small hands?

I played a Fender Mustang Bass which was 30" scale length. It was more comfortable for me to play and since I won't be playing for a live audience a bit of processing will provide what tone I need / require.

Oooooh nice.. I do love the shape of a mustang.. So long as its comfortable for you to play with what you are doing, then that's the main thing..
Which establishment were you trying these out at?
