Apparently we will get our hard earned back

All World Cup 2018 matches for the remainder of the group stages will be broadcast on SBS as well as streaming service Optus, with the latter service also made free to all Australians until August 31.

Customers who have signed up to Optus and paid $15 for the service will also be refunded after technical issues plagued the telco's coverage of the world's largest sporting event in its opening week.

"We as Optus have tried hard to deliver an exceptional viewing experience and deeply regret this has not been the case for all Australians," Optus chief executive Allen Lew said.

"Since Monday we have continued to improve our product and Optus have delivered the last six matches of the world Cup without issue. This has provided us with the confidence that out efforts have worked.

May have had to look elsewhere but where ever it was it wasnt as easy to find as the app and I going to have to search a bit harder tonight
You didnt get my point....that game on demand wouldnt appear on Fetch till about 8am, a couple of hours after its end.

It was on live as well on Fetch...I watched it. Did you watch Optus Sport 1 Live or Optus Sport App....big difference.

Push the TV Guide button....how are you watching the Portugal game now?

I'm watching both...pic quality better on Optus but 45 second delay. Pick Martin Tyler or Peter Drury for comms.

have sbs pulled off the greatest heist ever? get $8m from optus knowing they won't deliver, walk up to the PM next time around and whisper "remember 2018?" and watch the cash flow in to fund a free to air broadcast?

I suspect this is the case as well.

Any improvement in the service could easily be down to reduced demand due to people flooding back to SBS, and anyone who has issues with the coverage who still wanted to use it will just flick over to SBS instead of persisting with Optus and complaining.

The quality of video is much better on SBS for me (but that's cause I have third world internet - where the NBN at Tony?). But I've still been watching the mini-matches on Optus, I think they're great. 2 and 3 minute highlight vids just do nothing for me. If I had the time I would still try to watch full matches - but these are a good compromise, still get to see a lot of game play and "incidents" of interest.

Another major thing that both broadcasters are doing which (personally) makes the game more enjoyable is the lack of 'colour commentator'.

So good just having one voice giving you the run of the game without have {former player/coach} chiming in with the most moronic of contributions.

Give me Martin Tyler, give me the crowd noise, and let it rip.

Agree 100%, its the same with cricket commentary old vs new. Used to have Benaud silent half the time, and chime in when he had something to say. Now you just have no dead air time and constant anecdotes and unnecessary superlatives about standard play.

I had the same thought last night watching one of the games and enjoyed during a quiet passage of play when the team was just knocking the ball amongst defenders and the commentator said nothing for around 20 seconds. Viewers don't need a play by play of [CB-1] passes to [CB-2] who pauses, then passes back to [CB-1]

Happy to take a refund.. aside from opening night when I tried to watch games live, I’ve watched every game since on demand the next morning and not had a drama 😁

I find the SBS footage sharper than the Optus image. Have you found the same?
