The Jetstream Review – Wayne Browns On Fire

Furns (@newyboys) is joined by David (@JeterPool) & Glen (@SufferJetsCity) to review the 1-1 draw between @NewcastleJetsFC & @AdelaideUnited at @MJStadium

After the opening question the guys discuss the prematch entertainment organised by the Jets sponsor Inspirations Paint before delving into the game itself, with an overview of the performance, stats and tactics, the players who shone and a few who struggled, some key points in the match as well as the injuries suffered by three of our players and the players who replaced them. We then wrapped up by going over some of the news that broke after we recorded the preview podcast last week.

Stay tuned after the outro music as we have bonus content!!! Dr Emma (@Synapse101) interviews Jets supporter Anthony after the match at MJ STadium to get some immediate postmatch thoughts on the performance and players. We also have the audio of the post match press conference with Jets Coach Mark Jones, thanks to Fox Sports.

TALKING POINTS:

Memorable Match – 11th April 2014

  • Marked the final match for former captain Michael Bridges. In the 2-0 win, Bridges provided an assist for the 90th minute goal from Adam Taggart. Bridges made 66 appearances in 5 seasons with the club.

General

  • Newcastle have never defeated Adelaide when they have faced off in Rd 1.
  • The Jets have won 3, drawn 4 and lost 4 of their first round matches.

  • There have been 6 red cards shown in the last 6 matches at Hunter Stadium.

Players

  • Devante Clut, Wayne Brown, Andrew Nabbout, Kristian Brymora, Ivan Vujica and Aleksandr Kokko are in line to make their A-League debut for the club. The next player to appear will be player #139 for the Jets.
  • Only 6 players have scored on their A-League debut for the Newcastle Jets. Milos Trifunovic and Byun Sung-Hwan are the only two to have scored a debut goal in Round 1.
  • This will be the first season in the last 4 that Mark Birighitti has not started in Round 1.
  • Jack Duncan could become just the 8th keeper to start a match for the Jets.

  • Adelaide United

PREDICTION:
After what seemed like an uncharacteristically stable off season where a gradual build-up in friendly matches and an overseas tour, the Jets again delivered by terminating the contract of Scott Miller. After a 3 week search the Jets appointed former assistant Mark Jones in his first A-League coaching job – the third debut appointment in a row for the club.
Despite losing 3-1 to the Victory on a wild wet and windy night in the FFA Cup, the Jets have had a generally successful preseason – highlighted by the goalscoring form of Andrew Hoole and Andrew Nabbout. This might come too quick for Mateo Poljak (Hamstring) and Labinot Haliti (Knee) to return from injury.
Reigning champions Adelaide have lost a number of players, primarily in the forward line but have otherwise managed to retain the spine of their title winning team.
The Jets haven’t had a great recent record against Adelaide. Will Mark Jones have had enough time to make his influence on the team prior to this match? How will Adelaide’s new look forward line gel?
I think the departure of Miller so close to the start of the season will see the Jets struggle as they adapt to his game plan while the champions will have too much class.
LINE UP (Predicted) Duncan, Hoffman, Mullen, Boogaard, Cowburn, Ugarkovic, Brown, Nabbout, Nordstrand, Hoole, Kokko.
Adelaide 1-0

SQUAD: – 2. Daniel MULLEN, 3. Jason HOFFMAN, 4. Nigel BOOGAARD (C), 5. Ben KANTAROVSKI, 6. Steven UGARKOVIC, 7. Andrew HOOLE, 8. Mateo POLJAK, 9. Aleksandr KOKKO, 10. Wayne BROWN, 11. Labinot HALITI, 13. Ivan VUJICA, 15. Andrew NABBOUT, 16. Nicholas COWBURN, 19. Morten NORDSTRAND, 20. Jack DUNCAN (gk), 22. Lachlan JACKSON, 23. Devante CLUT, 30. Pierce CLARK (gk) **two to be omitted**
Ins: Nil
Outs: Nil
Unavailable: 1. Ben KENNEDY (gk) (injury – indefinite), 21. Daniel Alessi (knee – season)

The Jetstream Preview – The Sam Allardyce A-League Season Launch

Furns (@newyboys) is joined by Michael (@BodyNovo) & DrEmma (@Synapse101) to chat preseason & preview Rd1 between @NewcastleJetsFC & @AdelaideUnited

After the opening question the panel discuss the preseason fixtures, strengths and weaknesses in the current squad, players to watch this season, the inevitable discussion on the Scott Miller sacking and the subsequent hiring of Mark Jones. We give a bit of a season preview and then our thoughts on who will take out the Premiership and Championship as well as where we expect the Jets to finish.

There is some news regarding a new venue for home and away games, as well as the new active support area at Hunter Stadium behind the goals on the Southern Hill.

We then jump into an interview that David conducted with Ilario from the Adelaide United supporters podcast Always United (@AlwaysUnitedPod). David and Ilario discuss the Adelaide side of the upcoming match, recent performances in preseason, player turnover and how they see the match unfolding.

We then finish off by previewing the match against Adelaide from the Jets perspective, who will be likely to start, what will the tactics and formations be, and our tip on the result. We finish off by giving our tips on the rest of the games in the opening round of the 2016/17 A-League season.

We apologise for the audio quality of this episode, we attempted to minimise the buzzing however there was only so much that could be done to reduce it. The quality will be much better for the next episode.
