The Squadron Launches #NewyHelps Charity Campaign

The Squadron FSC (Football Supporters Club) Inc is very proud to announce we have launched a charity campaign that we have named #NewyHelps – as it’s all about the people of Newcastle helping their fellow Novocastrians during  tough times. We are aiming to raise $3500 to fund two charity initiatives.

Our first initiative is to help families staying at Ronald McDonald House at John Hunter Hospital. Families staying at RMH are there because they have a child in hospital with a serious or life-threatening condition – and this can be a hugely stressful time for families to deal with. What this initiative aims to do is to provide the opportunity for a different family of up to 5 people each game to attend a Jets home fixture. and to be able to unwind and enjoy some time away for a few hours at the football.

These families will be seated in an open air box at Hunter Stadium with catering already paid for each family member and a Squadron scarf each. The only item the families will have to pay for is any drinks they wish to purchase.

As well as this, each family will be hosted for each game in their box by an ex-Newcastle Jets player. We are very honoured that we have been able to secure Joel Griffiths, Matt Thompson, Stu Musialik and Jobe Wheelhouse who have very graciously volunteered to host several different games each and to spend time with these families to make their experience truly memorable.

Our second initiative we are raising money for is Sam’s Fund for SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death due to EPilepsy). This fund was set up in memory of Squadron member Sam Taylor who passed away at the age of only 23 in May 2015. Sam’s Fund aims to raise awareness of SUDEP and to donate money for SUDEP research.

We are also pleased to announce that everyone who donates money to the #NewyHelps campaign via the website will be automatically entered into the #NewyHelps Fundraising Raffle. Every $5 donated will get 1 entry into the raffle, $25 will get you 6 entries. If you are unable to donate via the website, we will also be selling raffle tickets outside the Western Stand entry gates for the next few home games starting with the F3 Derby which will also be raising money towards the donation target.

To donate to the campaign please go to newcastlefootball.net/newyhelps for the full details on the campaign and raffle and to donate
Any media, business or other enquiries regarding the #NewyHelps campaign please email us newyhelps@newcastlefootball.net

We must thank a number of people who helped make this campaign possible:

  • Matt Weldon-Smith from the Yellow Fever who was invaluable in providing setup and other details on the #FeverDeams campaign currently being run by the Yellow Fever supporters club
  • The Newcastle Jets Football Club for donating the open air box at Hunter Stadium and in particular Brooke Cousins for all her help
  • Joel Griffiths, Matt Thompson, Stu Musialik and Jobe Wheelhouse for donating their time to attend several games each to host the RMH Families
  • Jets major sponsors Inspirations Paint and Beechwood Homes who were the first businesses to generously donate items to the #NewyHelps raffle

Any businesses who wish to donate or provide goods or services to add to the raffle, please contact us on the above email address.
