Ain’t the first person to recognise John terry as being average.
Didn't Chelsea finish 3rd in 13-14?
Fair enough if you meant 2 season later in 14-15, but I think that had more to do with Hazard & Costa being superb while Ivanovic, Cahill & Matic were at the peak of their abilities.
Rafa & Matteo had a raw deal in 12-13 being the first year "Post Drogba" Both of them still had them performing better in the PL than the year previously. That despite a misfiring Torres, + Hazard and Oscar being raw.
But lets only remember the facts that suit our agendas, hey?

WE'RE GUNNA WIN THE LEAGUE
Signing Lampard a good move for everyone involved in my opinion.
After losing Hazard and not being able to sign due to the transfer ban it gives him free rein to blood youngsters and not be punished for poor results straight away.
I think Chelsea will be fighting for 3rd/4th with Tottenham for the next season or 2 but if the fans and Roman's patience can hold out I think they'll be challenging for the title again in a few seasons.
I will be very surprised if Chelsea can compete for 4th until their transfer ban is over. I predict them to be moreso fighting for 6th next season.
Stanny will tell you how influential Hazard is/was for them - something like 15 goals and 15 assists in the PL this season plus whatever his contribution in the Europa League was. So throwing in that same team without him into the CL, I just can't see where the output comes from until they properly replace him.
OK
It's not about adding quality. Arsenal and Manu are nowhere near the same level at the moment. Bad investments, obvious defensive frailties and uncommitted players will still screw any chance they have at Champions league places.
Chelsea have enough young, talented up and comers who will be motivated to show their best. Don't get me wrong Hazard is a huge loss I just think they still have more to them than the others. (I'm not a Chelsea fan BTW)
The fact that Lampard's minimum target was set at "not get relegated" tells you more than anything. I wish that was an exaggeration too.
Also, Arsenal were 1 missed penalty away from 4th place and 3 points behind Chelsea. Just think about how many points Chelsea will drop without Hazard to bail them out and the most boring midfield in England?
whilst i have absolutely zero faith in the self awareness of billionaires, the fact that senior management sacked the coach, sold their only world class player and screwed things up enough to put them on a potential transfer ban would indicate that Frank will be given more than enough leeway in order to rebuild the club.
because if they are gonna rissole him in the short term, the no decent coach is ever gonna want to be part of that type of shitshow for an eternity*
*except Benitez, he coached Newcastle so hes up for anything.
