You're hating on a guy for going to work each day and for getting paid, but are you even confident he does either?

Just out of curiosity has anyone managed to get new friends/family to sign up this year, and how have you gone in previous years?

Last year I got 4 extra family members to sign up as members. This year I've only managed to get 1 friend to sign up who hadn't already.

Anyone had any luck in recruiting? Anyone actually attempted to recruit people?

I got my Cousin and his 2 sons to join up.
Edit: I'm still optimistic we'll get 10,000, a couple good results in the next 3 weeks would definitely help the cause.

JETS chief executive Robbie Middleby admits Newcastle fans deserve greater reward for their loyalty after the club’s membership drive passed the 9000 mark on Thursday.

Despite missing the finals last season for the fourth consecutive time, almost 90per cent of last season’s 10,200 members have renewed their season tickets.

Middleby said Newcastle were ‘‘very grateful’’ members had stuck behind the club when it would have been easy to become disillusioned and walk away.

‘‘We appreciate their support and don’t take it for granted, and to be honest our performances over the past few seasons haven’t been good enough,’’ Middleby said.

We apologise for not being able to make the finals for the last four years.‘‘It’s a credit to the football community and the town, that they get behind us year after year.

THANKS ROBBIE IT TOOK SOME BALLS TO OFFER THAT UP BUT IT DOESN'T CUT THROUGH THE PAIN OF SUPPORTING THIS CLUB. WE DESERVE BETTER AND THE CLUB SHOULD MAKE SURE WE ACHIEVE THIS GOAL FOR THEIR FANS

‘‘We’d like nothing more than to have a successful season and reward them for their loyalty, because they deserve it.’’

Middleby said Newcastle’s fan base would stand the club in good stead regardless of how long controversial tycoon Nathan Tinkler remained as owner.

Tinkler signalled his intentions to sell the Jets in August and a Newcastle delegation travelled to England in September to negotiate with potential buyers, without any tangible success.

The Newcastle Herald reported last week that if Tinkler’s financial crisis could not be resolved by the end of the year, Football Federation Australia were preparing to assume control of the Jets.

‘‘I think it’s important to have that support of the club and the football team regardless of who the owner is,’’ Middleby said.

‘‘It’s strong. Whoever is looking at the club in the future, to know that the town and the football community are such strong supporters, it’s definitely a positive.’’

Middleby said the reaction of fans to last week’s 4-1 loss in Wellington was understandable but he was confident of an improved performance in Perth on Saturday night.

‘‘We’re all hurting after the game on the weekend but we have to stay focused and positive,’’ he said.

‘‘If you’re not positive at this stage of the season, where do you go from there?’’

A month ago, Middleby had been hopeful of surpassing last season’s membership numbers but with only eight days before Newcastle’s first home game, against glamour team Melbourne Victory, that appears unlikely.

‘‘Getting over 10,000 members is still a big target for the club,’’ Middleby said.

‘‘During the season, I’m confident we can get to 10,000, but leading into the first game it might be difficult.

‘‘But 9000 is not that far off where we were last season, and that’s fantastic in the circumstances.

‘‘Hopefully we can start winning some games and that number will continue to grow

PS FFS Get Off Middleby's back.

The running of the club poorly has nothing to do with him and he should never have to shoulder any blame for the situation the club finds itself in. BE beter of blaming the fans instead. They may carry the burden but they don't shoulder any of the blame for our woes

Not sure how many members we usually sign up after the first game of the season but I can't see it being 1755, which is the amount we are short of the clubs official goal.

It'll be interesting to see if we even get the 755 needed to get to 10k. I think we will, probably before the home F3 derby at the end of the month.

I wonder if heads will roll at the club for not reaching the membership goal. Did they really push it enough to achieve it? Obviously on-field results, both over the last 6 years but specifically over the last 4 games, don't help the cause. But I wonder if any or every one at the club is disappointed at not reaching the goal, and what strategies are in place or will be to resolve this for next season.

Don't get me wrong, even taking into consideration how cheap our memberships are, it's still a good effort to reach 9k for a town like Newcastle. But this is just another example of how poorly the club is going (on and off the field) IMO, that we haven't achieved or beaten the membership tally of the last 2-3 years.

I'd check with the club - they did email something last week about what members needed to do depending on when you paid for the membership - i think at this late stage it'll probably be a "print at home" option until your card is made.

I'm not sure they ever close. Don't they start offering reduced price memberships, basically each game gone makes it cheaper as it's one less game you can watch?

The sad thing is - we need 300 more to get to 10k, but it's more likely we'll lose 300 members asking for refunds before we get more :rof:

I won't be renewing until the club get the management and ownership debacle sorted out.

There is likely to be a drop even if a new owner comes in. And this is a hypothetical....

New owner arrives, jacks the prices up for the season tickets. Who will renew is it's an extra $100 for a season ticket? That's only $8 or there abouts for a game but people don't realise the breakdown.

Will probably depend on prices.
If a match day ticket is $27 +1.95% credit card fee + $4.35 handling fee.... Say $32.

I'll be suckered into going to at least four games.... So $128
If a season ticket is less than that, I'll get one, only so I'm giving them less money.

maybe I'll just go to away games.

Sad that people who push "Never Surrender" and "Never Tear Us Apart" think about jumping.

Worldwide the great thing about our game is supporting through thick and thin. But with Gen Y and Z in particular these days there is that desire for instant success - plenty of Man Utd and Barcelona fans around, not as many Leeds, Ipswich or Blackburn fans as there once was, except for original fans.

As someone who was an original KB United member in 1977, we went through hell over the next 30 years, including the loss of four clubs - the GF in 2008 was one of the great days in my life when it finally happened.

I will always be a member, no matter what and I will feel like I've done my bit when the good times return.

Yes, I come home these days like Golden Gordon from Ripping Yarns - "they're bloody useless" and kick the cat.

But I go there next week, every week because I support my local team, not the coach, or the CEO or the owner....

Didn't renew this year won't renew next year. How am I supposedly to teach my daughters about sportsmanship or graciousness in defeat with this rabble. I am sick because I continue to follow the Jets no matter what, but I'll not go out of my way to watch them live when I have a Fox subscription where I can watch them without feeling like shit on the 3 hour drive home.
When I see improvement on and off the field I'll consider membership again, until then they can FOAD

I was talking to pv4 and SB about it yesterday.. There is an episode of Ripping Yarns called Golden Gordon.. (I'm sure some of the older blokes will know of it)
I've been searching everywhere online to find it so I can share it on here, as it is absolutely brilliant and quite pertinent to whats going on for us fans..
(If anyone can find it, my old-boy has it on dvd, but its gonna take me a lot of effort to get it, copy it, upload it, etc etc)

I could only find this short part of Gordon coming home after his team have been thrashed yet again.. This is how I used to be after a Jets loss, absolutely pissed off and ropeable.. Nowadays, it is just expected, its comical, its beyond a joke..

Premy, I don't think I've ever met you, but you're not giving a good account of yourself.

Nowhere in my post did I reference the team losing or their performance as a reason for "jumping ship" as you so eloquently put it.

It's purely and simply to do with the ownership. While Tinkler owns and runs the club into the ground, he won't get any more of my money.

I couldn't care if we lost every game, but I personally refuse to financially support the shambles that currently "runs" the club I love.

You'll notice I done it to not just your post. The reason I done it was to hit a nerve, job done. You took the implication of "jumping ship", here's another cliche for, where there's smoke there's fire.

Tell me but what change regarding Tinkler from the start of the season for you to not renew next year? What is going on at the moment regarding ownership is nothing new but you now decide it's time for you to leave. To me that suggest recent events (on field results) is behind your desire to not renew, feel free to correct me.

Anyone can "hit a nerve" when they literally put words in people's mouths/keyboards.

Tinkler was bankrolling the Jets at the start. He obviously isn't now, albeit his name is still on the deed.

That's my only issue. No matter who owns the club, it should be done with 100% commitment.

Why should I continue to give over my hard earned when it isn't going towards the club, or at least that's what it looks like to a layman.

It's a choice, and it doesn't make any 1 supporter lesser/greater than those that stay/leave.

I won't support any other club, I'll still watch every week via Foxtel and I'll be wishing for 3 points at every turn, as I do now attending matches.

EDIT: I've already paid for the membership this season, so I'll be there until at least the end of the season. If owners change, so will my future-decision.

Tinker situation was the same now as it was a the start of the season, you're deluded if you think it wasn't.
Our membership money goes towards the club, the club doesn't make any profit for Tinkler to siphon, Tinkler had cut his expenditure not pinching our money. The clubs needs us and our money more than ever and you're turning your back.

I agree completely. We aren't lining tinkers pockets. At best we are minimising his outlay.

End of the day, if the clubs not sold by the start of next season and all the fans bail, the club just looks less attractive to any potential purchaser. All we have done then is add to Tinklers damage and further contributed to the clubs demise.

I'll keep signing on to support the team. Thats not a sign that I support the owner or condone the performance of the club as a whole. I'll stick it out.

Precisely right. the only money Tinks may have siphoned off is transfer fees from Taggz and Beard the money which could have been invested back into the club. What money he has taken from these deals isn't even covering his outlay over the last few years into the club.

Feel free to blame the FFA. They gave us Tinks despite him not having interest in the game and have thus created this situation we find ourselves in and are currently doing very little to rectify take ownership of the mess and sorting it out.

The HAL is not all about the big city clubs and the FFA's reluctance to deal with the Gypos and Jets and the ownership issues a regional side face shows how out of touch they are. The cost of running a HAL is ridiculously high and the fact we can not get a community ownership model off the ground to sustain a club shows what a farce we have on our hands when the FFA are running the comp at financial levels that are unsustainable without a millionaires backing

I am of the general view that giving people shit for not involving themselves in something you want them to be involved in isn't always the greatest way of keeping them included. Even if you don't agree with some people sentiments for not renewing, I think as supporters we should probably understand and respect their reasons. At least then we can pretend the supporters are a united bunch (and not a bunch of people with a just a few cliques thrown in).

And so you have some ammunition to have a go at me...Im not a member this year (have been in the past) and not sure if I will be next year. My reasons are related to family responsibilities, but if that is seen as being a plastic supporter or code for 'bad results' then so be it.

I don't think any of the management, coaching staff, or indeed the players understand what the club means to the supporters. Unfortunately, as long as 10,000 or so buy memberships they have no reason to want to know.

This is why I didn't pay for a membership. It has nothing to do with walking out on the club when they are down or only supporting the team during the good times.

It's simply my way of telling management that I do not support what they are doing to the club.

We could lose every week and I'd buy a membership tomorrow if the club had some direction. However, currently the club is spinning in circles with the same idiots at the wheel.

We are going to have to admit that people have different ways of protesting against a football management regime.

Some take banners, verbalise to players & staff, boo the team off, stay away, not get memberships, comment online at various websites etc.

As long as we all do something and let those that can make the changes know about it the impact of the message will get through.
