I don't know if it's really lolworthy... along with Stubbins, he has looked the most out of his depth. If I was a coastie fan, I would be pleased he was given the boot.
Not quite the level of rejoicing I would do if Stubbins was axed, mind.

If Murphy has any intelligence he should be trying to move Phil sideways down the F3.
To me a match made in heaven with him Moving Forward with the Gypos
It actually is a big sleight on our club and how competent we are that we actually keep a bloke who is 1 from 20 yet the Gypos remove a bloke who has a much superior record than Mr 1 in 20.

The financial woes of the Central Coast Mariners took an embarrassing turn last week when the entire playing squad was told to pay for their own admission to the club's end of season awards night.
In a sign of the extent of the Mariners penny-pinching culture, the club asked the players to pay $50 per head to attend their own function.
The request was met with immediate dissatisfaction from the playing group - many of whom are out of contract and in the process of negotiating potential extensions or deals elsewhere.
After being told of their complete unwillingness to dip into their own pockets to attend a club event and pay a total of $100 if they wanted to bring their partners, the club confirmed they quickly backed down and decided to cover the players' costs.
Central Coast owner Mike Charlesworth has long been vocal about the club's poor financial position and a Mariners spokesman says the initial request was made in order to trim costs.
"The club is currently reviewing all financial expenses to improve our long term viability and whilst this scenario was one of many options considered to maximise our medal night, It was never really considered a viable option and is definitely not the situation now or in the future," a club spokesman said.
The club was looking at many ways to trim the costs of their awards night and charging the players and backroom staff was the first considered. All staff's attendance to the event will now be complimentary.
Meanwhile, Sydney FC's preparations for their home semi-final next week continued on Thursday without injured trio Marc Janko, Terry Antonis and Robert Stambolziev.
Janko is recovering from a minor injury that ruled him out of the 2-1 win over Wellington last week while Antonis is continuing his recovery from a knee injury.
The duo hope to be fit to play in the semi-final on May 9 as is Stambolziev, who complained of quad tightness.
There was positive news for coach Graham Arnold with winger Chris Naumoff resuming training after suffering an elbow injury in the win over Wellington.
Sydney have also formally unveiled former Newcastle Jets striker Andrew Hoole as their latest signing.
Hoole was confirmed as a Sydney FC recruit by coach Graham Arnold weeks ago before scoring his only goal in the A-League at their expense in the Sky Blues' 4-3 win over the Jets.
"I'm looking forward to working with him and I can't wait to nurture the talent that he has already displayed this season," Arnold said.

O'Donovan is simply the biggest thug in the A League. Was lucky to escape with just a yellow a few weeks back on a disgraceful, potentially leg-breaking tackle against Victory's Broxham. Last night he after an altercation with Nix's Muscat launched himself into a headbutt which floored the Nix defender. Probably the ugliest act of thuggery I've seen in the A League since Kevin Muscat absolutely cleaned up Heart's Adrian Zahra (?) with a vicious tackle.
The commentators Hill and Harper were downright disgusted with O'Donovan's actions and then for him on the linesman's advise to only get a yellow for his actions, was a serious miscarriage of justice when you consider what some players are red-carded for at times.
Clearly the MRP will look at this in coming days and O'Donovan clearly has a case to answer to. As the ref did not see it and was only acting on the linesman's advice, this is different to the Birraz/Smeltz incident and action further action needs to be taken....probably 6 weeks for a deliberate act of striking an opponent would be sufficient.
BP Super Dynamos
01-01-2016, 01:01 PM
On the O'Donovan incident. I can only assume he was issued a yellow card for the shirt grabbing prior to the headbutt. If the assistant saw the assault, KGJ had no option but to send Roy off. You cannot caution a player for violent conduct. If the MRP don't cite O'Donovan, saying KGJ dealt with the incident, the referees need a reaming

As Bozza said, will be interesting as he hasn't played competitively since 2014 and is 37. I suppose the Mariners have nothing to lose but your big city clubs are much smarter these days and are not wasting their money on players whose peak years were a decade ago. Likes of Fornaroli, Novillo, Kallafallah are actually going to make a real difference.

Rumors floating around that FFA helped get him there, if it's true that shows the commitment they have for us.
If that's the case maybe we need to bombard them with abuse if they don't splash some our way.

We had a family member that passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. There was a fund raising event held at the Masonic Centre at Stockton. I remember helping my aunts out in the canteen and we had access to whatever passed as "backstage" there. He did this magic trick where he put a thin metal pin through his wrist... complete with fake blood and everything. I remember him being back stage with one of my aunts who was a nurse, getting a bandage because he had accidentally knicked himself and some of the blood was real, not just fake stuff under whatever synthetic fake skin he was trying to pierce.
He also ate a lot of minties.

Didn't know where to put this one but as it is having a laugh at the Gypos I thought this thread would do.
Watching the Roundtable discussion last night on Fox, Peacock, Bozza, Rudan, Harper and Cockerill discussing their thoughts on the HAL and giving teams a rating and critique. Peacock asks Bozza to give the Gypos a rating from A to F on their season, Bozza responds with a F-- (that's F minus minus)!!!
Harper also put his bit in by saying the unveiling of the "palm tree" playing strip didn't even look like a football team and that it was basically the start of their horrendous season :rof:
On another note Cockerill gives Cowburn a huge wrap for the way he knuckled down and earnt himself a senior contract from the youth team and really cemented his spot in the team at LB.

Walmsley:
“We’d much rather all the other clubs have a fantastically huge marquee and get him to play at Central Coast Stadium,” he said.
“That way, commercially our club grows and over a period of time we would then build enough of our own base to be able to generate the extra capital that would allow us to be able to move down that path for ourselves.”
All things considered, they've been one of the most consistent & reasonably successful teams over the first 10 years of the competition. If that hasn't brought in the fan base, a few marquees knocking in goals against your own team isn't going to. :wtf:

Central Coast Mariners consider Canberra Stadium as potential A-League finals venue David Polkinghorne

In a sign of the Central Coast Mariners' commitment to making Canberra their home away from home, they're considering playing any potential A-League finals games in the nation's capital, says former A-League4Canberra bid leader Ivan Slavich.
And while FFA boss David Gallop told Fairfax Media a crowd of 10,000 was a pass mark for Canberra (http://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/soccer/ffa-boss-david-gallop-says-at-least-10000-needed-at-central-coast-marinerswellinton-phoenix-aleague-game-20160502-gojqp3.html) Stadium, Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp says it's not about a "one-match pass or fail", but laying the "foundations" for them to become accepted as the ACT's team.
The Mariners will play the first of two A-League games at Canberra Stadium on Saturday, against the Wellington Phoenix, with the second against reigning champions Adelaide United in February.
This weekend's game will be part of a double-header with the W-League clash between Canberra United and Melbourne City.
Slavich raised $5 million to try and bring an A-League club to Canberra, but has now joined forces with the Mariners as their business development ambassador in the ACT.
He said the Mariners, who continue to be plagued by financial woes, were committed to making Canberra Stadium a long-term home and revealed it wasn't just regular-season games that were on the table.
"If they got into a final it's quite possible they would play the final in Canberra and not on the Central Coast," Slavich told Fairfax Media on Tuesday.
"That's how much they're committed and serious about Canberra being their market."
Slavich said the Mariners were now Canberra's best chance of hosting regular A-League games and encouraged the nation's capital to come out in force on Saturday.
With Gallop and FFA chairman Steven Lowy set to be at the match, Slavich was concerned Canberrans might not realise how important voting with their feet was in terms of having high-quality games in the future.
He pointed to the success Greater Western Sydney has had in bringing AFL games to Manuka Oval as Canberra's best chance of ensuring the A-League had a future there.
"People in Canberra keep talking about an A-League team and this is the first time we've had an A-League side play [here] since 2009, which is the last time the Mariners played," he said.
"This is our A-League ticket ... the concern I have is if the football community keeps going, 'this is not our team, we go for the Wanderers and we go for other teams', then we'll forever be in this vortex of no elite football in Canberra other than the odd Socceroos game."
Mielekamp said the Mariners wanted to "make a genuine difference to the football community in the ACT", which is why they were not only playing games at Canberra Stadium but establishing a pathway for players by providing opportunities to join their A-League squad.
While Gallop indicated a crowd in excess of 10,000 would be a pass mark for the Mariners-Phoenix game, Mielekamp said it was more about establishing a "core group of support".
He said with Remembrance Day falling on Friday, players would pay their respects to the armed forces with ceremonies before the game – including the Last Post and a minute's silence – as well as wearing a specially designed jersey.
The club will also be raising money for the RSL.
"We're not as dictated by setting a particular number, it's probably more of a quality rather than a quantity scenario for us," Mielekamp said.
"We'd be really excited by a decent crowd that's really passionate and understood the game and was highly engaged with the sport.
"That would be really good for us and a sign that there is a core group of support that is there to grow from.
"We're not looking at this as a one-match, pass-or-fail opportunity, we're really looking ... to set up something long-term that can really grow.
"It's not about how many people come to the game on the weekend, it's about how many people come to A-League games in five years."
The Mariners will arrive in Canberra on Thursday evening and will train at Canberra Stadium on Friday.

If they want to engage the fan base they can't be pulling stunts like this.

So basically they're setting shit up to permanently move to Canberra once they realise they've already hit their ceiling on the coast and there's really no way up. They've overachieved for the best part of 12 seasons and still couldn't attract fans. Sounds like the Mariners hierarchy are trying to keep themselves in a job when the team eventually folds and moves south.

When I was playing for the Central Coast Mariners I actually house shared with another player, Bernie Ibini, and we have become great friends. We were both young when we moved up to the Central Coast so we rented a permanent caravan at Norah Head for three years.
need I say more?
