Some info from thirds and reserves POV on Sunday....

Thirds - Once again the grubs (Dudley) took two players off in the first 10 seconds and replaced with two reserve / first grade players.... but it didn't help them......Uni wins 3 - 2. Uni the minor premiers and easily the best team all year in thirds....deservedly through to the GF.

Reserves - Uni ran over the top of Bero after going down 1 goal 15 minutes into the first half. 4 - 1 on the day, and once again the minor premiers make it to the GF. Uni blew Bero away in the second half with 3 goals in 15 minutes....Bero fought hard all game but lacked the quality to get a result...It was always going to be tough after losing 3 nil the week before.

On a side note...my congrats to Mayfield in reserves...4 - 2 against Dudley.... with away goals counting means they make the GF. Dudley obviously unsure about who was playing in what team...from all accounts they just gave the ball to the opposition to avoid the confusion.

Best of luck to those in finals !

1sts - Beresfield 3 - 1

Reserves - Uni 2 - 1

Thirds - Uni 1 - 0

I admit to being one eyed on the Uni results though !

Perhaps, as a moderator, you should aim your comment to that person deserving it.

Phoenix12 from where I stood on the sideline, I happened to notice that Dudley only started with 10 players, so maybe you haven't reached that level of counting at uni yet. I also noticed the big fella who started up front could barely even walk. Yes Uni were the better team all year, but it looked to me Dudley just did what they had to do to get a team on the park.

You were there...so was I...your assessment is a good one, without the subs they were no chance. But does it matter where they come from ? What grade ? I guess if they really had no numbers then where else are they supposed to get players from hey ? As you said..they did what they had to do.

Just like to give a big shout out to Big Dog, 24 Goals to take out the leading Goal scorer in 1st grade. All that whilst playing in a inconsistent side who finished of the pace and he missed a few games, big congrats.

Good luck to all involved in the finals this weekend and thanks to all for a great season.

There is a rule stating maximum clubs a player can play for per season... if someone did their homework could the final team who signed him be penalised for playing an illegible player?

As an outsider who will be watching on Sunday can somebody please tell me who I should be going for? I need a cool back story or Cinderella story to choose which team to barrack for. Has one team come back from bankruptcy & the brink of extinction to make the GF? Is there a refugee playing who has survived a war torn regime where he was a child soldier who was captured and forced into slavery before escaping a concentration camp and now playing on the biggest day of the year? Is there a player that has survived a crippling childhood illness which killed the rest of his family and dog only to come back from the dead to play on Sunday? Like all good reality shows Sunday is about the back story so give me the details. I need a team to bond with emotionally to make the experience more rewarding.

Thanks for the info guys. So it comes down to the underdogs v the battlers. Hard choice. Might come down to the kit like Frodo suggested. What are the colours & emblems of each team? If it comes down to something uninspiring like a rosebud or non tangible like magic up against the bull terriers or honey badgers it could be the clincher.

I'm on the Swansea band wagon. They look like genuine underdogs & seem to be vastly under resourced. They have no warm up kit, only seem to have half a dozen drink bottles, two balls & a handful of marker cones to their name. There support entourage consists of a few proud parents & a couple of RSL locals. They showed up in shorts & thongs & look like they are fighting the good fight against rampant professionalism. All that plus the Bero supporters were a bunch of cocks during the 3rd grade penalty shoot out.

They only had Gold left but thats the norm after half time anyway at these games.

Congrats to Beresfield...they had a good season and managed to scrape through.

IMO - the best team on the day.....University Reserves - The only team to score a goal in play and the only team to win without the tossing of a coin... (thats what I think pens are...)

Some of the worst stuff - Beresfield supporters acting like absolute muppets....it would be good if they would actually learn some quality insults instead of resulting to what they did on the day...but I know...that's too much to ask. The Classic line delivered by a Uni supporter to one of them ...."You holiday where I live"....it took him a minute to figure it out.

Worst non club decision of the day.......How the F that referee got the firsts game I will never know...absolutely diabolical...The third grade referee was the best ref on the day by far.

Should be a good season next year...wonder who will stay and who will go ?

Wow what a shock that you think that!

Valid reasons though ! I was on the bench...picked up an injury a few weeks ago....but honestly, (and being us unbiased as I can), IMO the reserves game had the majority of chances (for both sides) over both the thirds and firsts game.

Cheers for that...I didnt think I was being biased with my comment, but the other games didnt have the chances that both Mayfield and Uni had, and the game itself seemed more entertaining because of the chances taken, and the chances missed.

I think what you're trying to say is the best performance of the day was Uni ressies, not the best team. Saying they are the best team on the day is insinuating they would have beaten all competing teams on the day which I'm guessing wouldn't be the case.

Whats the (Ahem) ground like at Morrissett these days ?

Cons - Is a rugby league field - When we got there this year they had to take the goal posts down to set up the football field.

Pros - Can see entire game from club window.

LOL...

Last time I played there I think they fielded a few under 18 players just to get a side on the park. The ground didn't hold water very well and so was frequently washed out for a lot of the rounds...

However that was a while ago and things may have changed for the better.

IMO - the best team on the day.....University Reserves - The only team to score a goal in play and the only team to win without the tossing of a coin... (thats what I think pens are...)

If you actually go to Uni or have a degree. I would be asking for my money back. There is dumb and there is stupid. You certainly are stupid to make this comment. Different grades and different teams. But you morons would say anything to think your superior.

Haha more like 4 players, as to what grade they play that will be up to the Coaching staff.

What's the match payment figure coming out of Beresfield this coming season?

Love rumours. I'd say a little early for speculation. Imo minds can change 10 times between now and season start but I'll sit back and watch the show🤔

After just reading a FB post about the Eagles merging all junior and senior teams under the NLFC banner (congrats on that as well, sensible thing to do and I'm sure I would have taken a collaborative effort from all parties) does anyone from NLFC wish to comment on what the plans are for Alder Park?

No plans mate, we feel it is one of the premier sporting facilities in the Newcastle region!

In all seriousness we are looking at ways to improves the facility. We are currently completing our application to council to put increased lighting in, which hopefully will be completed by the start of the season and allow for night games to be played.
We are looking at our budgets and trying to source regular revenue to reseed the ground etc every season to ensure the pitch improve greatly on recent seasons.
We also have quite a few other ideas which will require funding and working in with the Athletics Club to upgrade the facilities. We know the facilities aren't up to scratch and looking at ways to improve, but there are quite a few factors/roadblocks to facility improvement which we need to take into account moving forward.

Thats excellent news ! congrats to the Eagles Seniors on the merger... I am hoping to see the mighty eagles once again rise to the top....a proud club with a long history, and overdue for some good fortune.

Hopefully they get the backing by NCC for the lights to move quickly and that work can begin on getting the Seniors club back to their former strength.

2 questions

What do the NL juniors achieve by joining with seniors? They already had a Zl team that is doing well.

and why were they separate to start with?

A head start in League levels and some better quality players.

Also a senior committee that is experienced in running senior football club style operations. Very different to a Junior club.

and why were they separate to start with?It all went to shit 40 yrs ago when egos and sticky fingers and rich neighbours all ripped in and tore the heart out of the joint. Apparently the new venture is a model the club is pushing toward eventual promotion of ZPL where ZL gives their huge junior numbers a step into graded football. Their committee and coaching teams are a whose who of local business and football heads and Clayton Zane looks after technical direction. More to come announcements wise too with rumours of an NPL Club from some junior skinny neighbours putting out some feelers come the new NPL licence. Early prediction would be both Senior teams to dominate ZPL and ZL3 In 2016.

Over the years the Eagles have been a good side and confidence can be a good thing, however without hindsight statements like these can make one look foolish. None the less all the best for the season ahead.

From someone quite involved with the club I'd tend to agree. We always believe we will put a good side on the park, but especially at pre season stage it is impossible to be 100% sure of squads etc. from what I have seen I would think the ZL3 boys should do quite well again. As for the ZPL sides not 1 of the 3 grades played semi final football last year, so we obviously need to improve in a few areas, but we are definitely planning to be challenging again this year.
