Krygy Kents 1 v Peoples Front of Jordan 0
(or is that the Jordanian Peoples Front??)

Back top o' the group (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%28AFC%29#Group_ B) peeps and Jordan in 2nd place on that god forsaken 2nd place (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%28AFC%29#Rankin g_of_runner-up_teams) table.
Nice direct swap there.

Burns was really brought back to the pack because of the ground. The slow pitch/long grass made it very hard to use his biggest weapon, his speed.

Second half was definitely no effort put in, job was done. Troisi didn't look happy to be on at all!

I thought Luongo was good in 1st half. He and Mooy did a great job. Was a major difference in the second half when they both went off, there was a big hole with nobody in it between Jedinak and Cahill!

the fact we weren't already top of this group is a national embarrassment

the remaining games against Tajikistan and Jordan will probably be held in Adelaide and Melbourne - though the Jordan game could go anywhere if it's going to be a dead rubber

The shirt is simple and nice. Not outstanding but nice.

I prefer green shorts but obviously we've caved to FIFA demands to have the one-shade kit.

Which then makes no sense why we've mismatched socks on either kit. It looks ridiculous. Should of went the full hog and gone gold socks for home, blue for away.

Away kit is nice and simple. Would have preferred green to blue though, but not the worlds biggest issue. Cue MFKFC raging about gypo colours though.

Germany didn't ignore it for the last WC.

Will be interesting to see if FIFA make Croatia have red/white checked shorts, or if they make Brazil not have blue shorts & white socks, though.

Yep.
He was also busy in defense and forced plenty of turn overs, winning the ball high up the pitch in dangerous positions. I must admit that sitter he put on to the post was disappointing he should have buried that. However he looks sharp and hungry, that turn and hit on the left was a goal if its a yard either side of the keeper. Keen to see if Ange starts him against Jordan, how old is he again? 26?

Brad Smith and McGowan were impressive. Trying not to get carried away due to the opposition, but you can only play against what is in front of you and both put their best foot forward.

Smith had a couple of wayward crosses which is unusual for him from what I've seen when his playing for Liverpool.

It's not about whinging for the sake of it.

That opponent blast night was pathetic

7-0 was a bad result.

Reality is we should have won by much more.

Just calling a spade a spade

The scoreboard never done justice to the disparity between the sides

We should have won with a double digit score

That's a par score against a side that offered as much as they did

Whilst I don't necessarily disagree try to remember that they had 11 men behind the ball for most art of that game. It can get crowded and become very difficult and frustrating to break down a team like that.
Last night we showed good patients and discipline. How often have we seen the same thing happened against a Jordan or Qatar to only be scored against on the counter and we find ourselves chasing the game.

Put into perspective last night was a good experiment along with a important result.

Fair enough to MFKS, he can have his opinion just like everyone.
Despite the opponent the multiple assists, important team play AND theoretically scoring a goal (Rogic's didn't actually cross the line before Giannou finished it), I feel pretty confident that Ange wouldn't agree with MFKS' assessment and that we will be seeing Giannou play plenty in the future.

If Barcelona only beat the Cooks Hill U12s by 16-0 by my counts they have still played like busted arseholes

The 3 points was in the bag as soon as the Soccerroos got off the bus at the ground. Question was always by how many

You can try and find positives in that game but reality is there is **** all. We were not tested at all

Whether they parked the bus is irrelevant. We had no trouble playing through them. The space and defensive pressure was ridiculous

Ange could have played against orange cones who probably would have put up more of a fight

Qualifying games should be testing us.

That they don't just shows how weak the Asian Confederation is that we have to wait to next Rd to play a Japan Korea Iran etc and get tested

Then let's not even look at how other rival Confederation s have to earn spot at WC

Basically we just have to rock up to the grounds and we are more or less there

Shows why the AFC disappoints every WC

After the gypo goes a few games the full 90 and gives us the level Mooy has shown I'll be able to compare the 2. Last night gypo got to sit in the 18 yard box and ping away. They were good finishes mind, but it's a 90 game yeah?

because it's not actually the case

we're on 12 points from our games against the top four teams in our group

Syria also have 12, UAE and North Korea have 10 and Iraq have 9

if Jordan beat us, and the four teams listed above all win, three will have more than 12 points, Iraq will be on 12

our goal difference without Bangladesh is only +12, Iraq are on +6

in simple terms, if we lose 0-3 on Tuesday and Iraq beat Viet Nam 4-0 (as well as UAE, North Korea winning, with Syria not losing) then we are out of the World Cup

go put $10 on a multi-bet of all that happening - then if we're eliminated you'll have all that money to wipe away the anger

Ok...so what has to happen for us to miss out on qualifying. Apart from losing of course.

From Boz

we're on 12 points from our games against the top four teams in our group

Syria also have 12, UAE and North Korea have 10 and Iraq have 9

if Jordan beat us, and the four teams listed above all win, three will have more than 12 points, Iraq will be on 12

our goal difference without Bangladesh is only +12, Iraq are on +6

in simple terms, if we lose 0-3 on Tuesday and Iraq beat Viet Nam 4-0 (as well as UAE, North Korea winning, with Syria not losing) then we are out of the World Cup

However we just scored :yay:

Kruse - Best of ground. Great to see him back at his best form, such a valuable player for our national team. Back to getting the shit kicked out of him too!

Mooy - Most important player we have right now, when he went off our game definitely dropped. I do agree his set pieces don't seem as good as his serves in A-League.

Cahill - Barely got the ball but was good when he did and worked as hard as ever, hard to not love the guy!

Rogic - Was hot and cold, did some brilliant stuff but also gave the ball away a bit. Can shoot though, that's for sure!

Risdon - Terrible with the ball in the first half, got better as the game opened up but his delivery was not great and seemed rushed

Smith - The guy was great again, left back is his spot to lose now. He is strong and fast and doesn't mind getting stuck in a bit

Milligan - Same old, same old. Always does the job he needs to.

Sainsbury/Wright - Both solid but weren't really tested much. I quite like the combination.

Ryan - Again, didn't have to do much but the only reason anyone could not like him is that he used to be a Gypo.

Leckie - Had a terrible game, his touch was bad and gave the ball away consistantly. Also went missing in the second half, much like he did in the first game. I am one who does like Leckie but he seems out of form and just doesn't seem to be able to fulfill his potential at national level. Burns seems a better option at the moment.

Umm the rankings don't get done for this until next week

The games everyone has played in the last few days need to be factored in.

Wouldn't expect great changes but could see some small tweaks.

The other thing is too I believe there is an element of luck FIFA I know 5 5 5

But a draw has to be done.

So we are no certainty to not play Iran.

Judging by my guess UAE will probably be the side we can't play as we will most likely go into the same pot as them as we will more than likely be the 5th and 6th ranked teams

That also being said how much they want to tweak things remains to be seen

We are Asian Champions and WC Qualifiers the last two times. Does that help with the usual manipulation to protect the bigger sides

MFKS

As long as we not fraw Sth Korea and Japan in the same group

Can see that happening though as the power is in the West of the AFC

Other than Japan Korea we should easily beat all those teams at home

Just a matter of picking up some points on the road and we should be through

That being said. Asian Confederation is average.

If we can't finish top 2 next round we don't deserve to go the World Cup

Sorry Captain but that doesn't explain anything. I don't think lquiquer is ignorant of that number ranking fact either.
The question I'd as is who are West Asian teams like KSA & UAE playing and beating to be ranked higher than us?

It's the seeding that's go me stumped in this process. Wiki on this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_AFC_Th ird_Round) have us ranked 2nd based on expected points come April 7th.

AFC Team Seedings Expected 7 April 16
After completion of all matches in round 2 of AFC World Cup qualification the following are the expected rankings order of AFC teams for round 3 based on expected points. (Values in brackets are the expected FIFA world ranking points. *Estimated world rankings are not possible to determine due to other international matches still to be played).
*Wiki cover their @rse here.

And how's FIFA and the Kuwait clusterf**k?
You think they'd get this sorted before this stage of the game. We're now 8 days out from the 3rd round draw.

On 16 October 2015, FIFA announced that the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) was suspended with immediate effect, following a decision from the FIFA Executive Committee that sports law of Kuwait had to be changed before 15 October. The Myanmar vs Kuwait match, scheduled for 17 November 2015, was not played due to that suspension, and on 13 January 2016, FIFA decided that that match should be forfeited by Kuwait, and awarded as a 3–0 win for Myanmar. The Kuwait vs Laos and South Korea vs Kuwait matches, scheduled for 24 and 29 March 2016 respectively, did not take place as scheduled. Further decision is to be taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

Good point about the Saudis and how they out rank us they ain't playing anyone of note and beating the big names.

They ain't beating much in Confederation stuff.

They have done **** all in Asian Cups since we came to Asia and didn't even get out of the first group stage last WCQ campaign

The only way they can be ahead of us is if they are maximising their FIFA ranking by scheduling useless friendlies against weak opponents to be artificially boosting their ranking

Basically win the 4 games at home V the lesser teams.
We should do easy.

There is 12 points

Try and get something from our games v Japan/Korea

We can do that home and away

Pick something up on the road somewhere againt the lesser teams.

We are there.

Away you not need to win as draws work just as well taking points off your rival teams

Also none of the lesser teams outside the Top 4 are going to win 8 -10 games in WCQ anyway as they will drop points off one another somewhere

I had my reasons why I wanted us to draw group B

But with Qatar hosting the WC soon you know they are investing big in their game

China is a bit of a wildcard there growth may come bit late for this campaign

I would prefer Japan over Korea.
We were probably second best in the Asian Cup Final on the balance of play even though we got the result yet we always aim up well against Japan

Syria is a ****ing wild card with the political situation there

I not think we are going to be shitting house bricks playing in UAE as it is one of the most moderate Gulf States.
Saudi Arabia we beat them comfortably last time

really tough group to be fair

Agreed, is pretty much the worst case scenario group. The only way it couldhave been worse would have been drawing Syria instead of Thailand, because fxxx that away trip, and IMO it was a coin toss with Japan/Korea.

Looking at the fixtures the worst games for us seems to be playing away to Saudi Arabia then backing it up 5 days later with a home game v Japan. Or even playing away to Iraq (I assume in Iran?) then backing it up 5 days later with a home game v UAE.

Premier, David Gallop support Luke Foley's call for football World Cup qualifier in Newcastle

IN a rare show of bipartisan support, Premier Mike Baird has thrown his support behind a call by Opposition Leader Luke Foley for Newcastle to host the Socceroos in a World Cup qualifying match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next year.

Responding on Friday to a letter from Mr Foley asking him to negotiate with Football Federation Australia (FFA) to secure the March 28, 2017 qualifier for Hunter Stadium, a spokesman for Mr Baird said the government would put “a strong case” for the fixture.

“The Premier strongly supports more international football matches being played in Newcastle,” he said.

“While the allocation of matches is ultimately a matter for the FFA, the NSW Government, through Destination NSW, will certainly be putting a strong case to the FFA.”

FFA chief executive David Gallop, who publicly canvassed the idea of a Newcastle-based World Cup qualifying match during last year’s Asian Cup campaign, also offered support for the proposal.

"If Newcastle were to mount a strong case with the right level of government support, FFA would certainly give the bid every consideration," he said.

Mr Foley wrote to both the Premier and Mr Gallop on Thursday, asking them to show support for the region by pushing for Hunter Stadium to host the match between the Socceroos and UAE, the two teams that played an Asian Cup semi-final to a bumper crowd at the ground last year.

“Hunter Stadium was the venue for several Asian Cup games and contributed in no small way to the overall success of the tournament,” Mr Foley said. “There can be no doubt that it can host another major Socceroos’ fixture.”

Hunter stakeholders were also quick to add their voices to the chorus of support, with Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, Northern NSW Football CEO David Eland and Tourism Hunter chairman Will Creedon all applauding the proposal.

Cr Nelmes said she had spoken to Mr Gallop and Asian Cup local organising committee CEO Michael Brown about the idea after the city hosted four Asian Cup games last year.

“As Lord Mayor I am very supportive and from a council perspective it fits in well with our long-term tourism strategy to attract more big events to the city,” she said.

Mr Creedon said the structure to support such an event had been established during the Asian Cup, “so it would just be a matter of pressing the ‘go’ button”.

Mr Eland said the region was well-placed to bid because of its past record in hosting a big football event.

“We came through the Asian Cup with flying colours; the venue was outstanding, particularly with the new pitch, and the region was supportive.”

A spokesman for the FFA said it had contractual obligations with Destination NSW to play at least one of the five home matches in the next World Cup qualifying round in NSW. Destination NSW said all location options were being considered.

NEWCASTLE councillors have given the campaign for Newcastle to host a Socceroos World Cup match a kick along by voting to support a bid by the city.

NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley sparked the push in April when he wrote to Premier Mike Baird and Football Federation Australia (FFA) calling for Newcastle to get the World Cup qualifying match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), scheduled for March 28, 2017.

Both the Premier and FFA chief executive David Gallop responded positively to the call, with Mr Gallop saying the FFA would give a Newcastle bid consideration if the city were to "mount a strong case with the right level of government support”.

Cr Tim Crakanthorp successfully moved on Tuesday that Newcastle council write to the Premier and FFA in support of the Newcastle bid, noting that Hunter Stadium hosted a match between the two sides in January 2015 as part of the Asian Cup.

“Newcastle has become the alternative city to host large-scale events in NSW … with its ability to provide gold-class facilities and amenities,” he said.

Where the **** were these clowns when the just completed round matches were up for grabs??

They had more of a hope of getting one of them than they do of getting one this round.

Yet they were not to be seen or heard

Lets not forget Brisvegas and Melburn still haven't had a game this round so that's two down already

Sydney being the epicentre of the FFA's world makes 3

So we pushing shit up a hill to get one of these two left over matches

They could probably draw bigger crowd in Adelaide anyway and may wish to go either back to Perth again or give a second match to Sydney Brisvegas or Melburn before they give a game to us

So what did everyone think of our formation and performance last Thursday?
I have to say that I thought the diamond formation really put a roof on the strengths that Mooy, Rogic and Luongo can offer the team. I could see the benefits of congesting midfield if we played a team known for dominating midfield but Iraq is not that team. Back to our 4-3-3 to see how the midfield performs with the few blokes who are in form at the moment. Probably say right now I'd like to see Miligan as DM, and simply going off form Mooy and Rogic. Love my boy Luongo but just a form selection there. I think for now I'd keep Mooy as the consistent starter as I see Rogic & Luongo being those midfielders that would be great to be able to come off the bench to make a game changing impact.
