Will do. Only posting goal updates but from the feed, Bradberry is amazing. Is basically a one man youth team. Birra has also been immense in goals for yoof.
Kale is ****ing amazing basically a future club legend who will hopefully one day make Griffologists false prophets.
Me I am not overtly worried about our lack of strike force options with this kid on the books I expect him to get pushed up into the HAL squad sometime this season.
If he keeps carving it up at training/preseason he may be leading the line in Rd 1. Hopefully gets 10-15 games under his belt so he is well and truly prepared for playing with Lord Griffo for his January return to Newy

FFS, can't believe we lost to the youth.
Think the sky is falling for sure, we aren't going to win anything with the dross we have at the moment. Need a striker or 3, 5 new midfielders, two new GK's (coz one clearly isn't enough) and 5 defenders because we are crap.

Jets v Wello confirmed..............
Jets to play Phoenix in Weston for QR National Cup
Tuesday, 31 July 2012 10:22 AM
The Newcastle Jets can today confirm that they will play a pre-season trial match against Wellington Phoenix in Weston on Saturday, August 18.
The visit by the Jets to Weston and Cessnock will be supported by Newcastle Jets’ Major Sponsor QR National with the two teams contesting the inaugural QR National Cup.
This match will represent the Jets’ first hit-out ahead of the new season against A-League opposition and will see the Club return to Weston Sports Ground.
Thanks to the support of QR National, the Jets will also visit a junior football club in the region and hold a community clinic for local juniors. Details of this clinic will be announced shortly.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the fixture was an important part of the Club’s pre-season schedule.
"It’s great to be able to take a pre-season fixture against high quality A-League opposition to our Members and supporters in Weston and Cessnock," Middleby said.
“With the support of Major Sponsor QR National, we’re looking forward to being able to put something back into a part of our region that is renowned for having a very rich football history.
“This match is a fantastic opportunity to further engage with the Hunter community and is also a vital part of our preparations for the 2012/13 A-League season.
“We’re expecting Wellington to provide us with a very tough test which is exactly what our squad needs at this stage of the pre-season.”
Tickets can be purchased on the night at a cost of $5 for adults, while children under 16 will be admitted for free.
All money raised from gate takings will be retained by NNSWF for the purpose of providing grants to identified coaches to cover the costs associated with undertaking elite coaching accreditation.

First of all gotto start by saying coops was amazing today.
Second and third quaters definately missed tiargo in the mids. every touch was brilliant to watch. Loved watching chapman with his mission runs as well. hope to see chapman come into the side and tiargo in the centre. just imagine the two of them with their mission runs all day.
Goodwin was all class. Made space all day. it was like no one bothered to mark him.
in the last third zad went to town on the youth side. was great to watch.

I cannot stress how important it is for us to verse some stronger opposition where our defence will actually get tested (no offence to the teams we've played).
Yes we're playing Roar @ tamworth but we should also be aiming to play teams higher than a-league level if possible.
You can't make judgement on the defenders until they're pressured by a decent team or the players with a tendency to overlap and attack will shine even if they are a liability when under pressure.
Do we have any other a-league teams lined up for pre-season?
GazFish35
02-08-2012, 01:42 PM
Phoenix in a few weeks.
And rumors floating round west Sydney that we might be playing the Wanderers
But not sure if they count for "a-league standard" yet.
Went and watched the hitout yesterday.
Tiago playing defensive mid. Trotted around all day never broke into any thing over 50% of running capacity and bossed it. Poor bloke has ungainly gait whilst jogging though. Looks like he has something stuck up his arse!!
Taggart looked sharp and looks a good un. Just watching his demeanor and the way he carries himself on the pitch he looks like Lord Griffo in a lot of ways. Get the bloke some hair dye and a Mohawk and we are in business. Will defo look like Griff even if he don't play like Griff.
Goodwin killed it all 3 halves!! Unbelievable engines one minute on his own byline the next 80 yards up the park whipping in a cross. Be interesting to know who is fitter Rubes or Goodwin. Crossing needs to improve big time as he gets into great positions down the left flank and then wastes most balls in.
Rubes had 4 shots at goal. First 2 were on target!! I was shocked. Next one made me feel better when he blasted it high wide and handsome into black snake country. Next under the cross bar level but just wide of the post. Rest of the time he done well also. When the kiddies come on for the final 3rd you can see they were all shit scared of Rubes. No one wanted to tackle him!!!
Mitchy Cooper Virgili and Peppz went well also
R Griff was pretty quiet
Jesic anonymous
Keepers weren't really tested all day much.
Most of the play was between penalty boxes with very little quality in the final 3rd.

pretty understandable considering:
that teams are fighting to finish in the top 5 and/or higher
and 2 teams are playing each other in a relegation blockbuster.
they would have been smarter to play weston or valentine who have nothing to play for this weekend, or do what they normally do and wait for the season to finish.

If anyone wanted to know how the game was, not much happened.
Jets were pretty shit for the first half. It wasn't the actual first team playing, but we still sucked, I didn't see any of the domination they showed against Magic. NNSW/Jets youth deserved their goal, and Birighitti was at fault again imo. I am not liking the signs he's showed so far, I know it's tough to look good as a keeper against these types of teams, but in the two games I've seen him play he's made two embarrassing errors. To give him credit, it appears that he has settled in well with the team, his communication was quite good.
Second half, not much to report on either, a bit better maybe. The only thing I found half interesting was that Jesic actually looked good, or at least he looked pretty hungry for it, which is completely different from how I've seen him for the past year or two.
Conclusion is that we need to be playing higher quality opponents, this was no better than an intra-club game really.

He skinned a few players and was involved in the second goal, which was also a nice finish from Chapman. Showed a lot more than some of the hyped up players who came on in the second half. (edit: probably agree with ppete below though, it was just a random observation, don't make too much of it)
Gaz, you could be right about that, we looked very flat. It probably should've finished 2-2, the NNSW/Youth missed a completely open goal in the second half after a f***-up from Duncan (cheers Mr 10).

Van Egmond names starting XI for Wellington fixture Friday, 17 August 2012 4:44 PM
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets head coach Gary van Egmond has named his starting XI for Saturday night’s QR National Cup fixture against Wellington Phoenix at Thomas and Coffey Park.
Mark Birighitti will start in goals behind a backline of Scott Neville, Tiago Calvano, Josh Mitchell and Craig Goodwin.
The midfield will consist of Ben Kantarovski, Jobe Wheelhouse and Mitchell Oxborrow, while Ryan Griffiths, Adam Taggart and James Brown will start in the forward line.
Ruben Zadkovich will miss the fixture due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He is expected to be sidelined for 10 days, but is likely to return for the Jets’ trial match against the Brisbane Roar in Tamworth on September 1.
Joshua Brillante (hip flexor) and Michael Bridges (personal leave) will also miss the Wellington clash.
Dominik Ritter will make his return from injury off the bench for the Jets while Bernardo Ribeiro will be making his second appearance in the Club’s colours.

Got to be the most entertaining pre-season game I've been to, most of them are boring as batshit.
Nix players did seem like a right bunch of ****s, Tiagz just proving his Newyness yet again.
Piss poor game ruined by a red card happy ref. It was 10 Jets v 8 Sheep ****ers and they still couldn't smash the game to bed.
Nothing tonight made me excited for the season ahead except for a new rivalry against a bunch of ram ****ers.
Spent all day tossing up whether to go the game tonight. Big couple of days and lack of sleep and standing around in Kurri in this shitty weather with the Westerly blowing didn't seem that appealing. Any way come 2:30pm when I knocked off work I decided **** it I want to see Rubez in action.
Imagine my disgust when I got to the ground and found out Rubez wasn't playing.
Anyway as far as getting to the game what an adventure that was!! Big thanks to the ****s building the Craig Deans Expressway who decided to block off George Booth Rd and put in place a detour. Having left the palatial Kotara Sth abode the Member had pretty much timed it well arrival bang on about 4:30pm leaving plenty of time for a couple of pre match sausage sangas and a beer or two. You can imagine my disgust when at about 4:15 I found this detour. Fair dinkum these ****s sent me off into parts of the Hunter that even Google maps hasn't photographed. Hell the people who live on this road don't even know where the **** they are. The Member had visions of entering Dubbo at about 8pm tonight as he drove nervously down roads that were tarred by convicts. Eventually ended up in some Gypsy wanna be backwater called Pelaw something and ended up finding my way into down town Kurri. Ended up getting to the game with about 15mins to spare.
Anyway game kicked off and was really enjoying it. After watching some of the mismatches this pre season it was obvious the Nix were gonna present a good test to GVE's boys. Not long in James Brown was away on goal only to be hacked down in rather brutal fashion by Ben Sigmund. Ended up getting a yellow when possibly a red was on the cards for Professional Foul.
Take note this is what started the ruckus.
Not long later Phoenix scored and it was oh so reminiscent of last season. Cross from the left by Ifill allowed to drift across the face of goal with numerous players not taking ownership and clearing. Ball found its way to Alex Smith who poked home from close range
Moments later second key incident that started the ruckus was Tiago going through the back of the Nix player Boyd. Wellington players were incensed as they thought the ref had been lenient. Queries were raised about inconsistency as Tiago escaped punishment yet Sigmund had been booked.
There was also complaints of a possible elbow by Tiago though I didn't see the elbow this does seem highly out of character for Tiago!!! Manny Muscat was leading the complaints and was highly agitated and despite Jobe's efforts to placate him the red mist descended on Manny.
Not long after the ball was loose and Tiago spotted Muscat coming for the ball and Tiago launched in and got him. No problems with the red. Muscat retaliated and a massive hoo haa started and the benches were almost cleared for a royal rumble like melee to ensure. Eventually order was restored. Ref pulled Tiago up first and gave a straight red. Then Sigmund and Muscat joined him. Manny then tried making a run on the most hated Maltese National in the Hunter title by a display of petulance that ruffled the partisan crowds feathers. Good thing some other Maltese National has the title under lock and key but Manny may be about to make a run for the throne if he keeps that shit up.
Now this really pissed me off. I actually came to see the Jets get tested. 1-0 down the Nix were in charge and I really wanted to see a bit of what to expect this summer from the boys. By the ref giving out the reds it ruined the game. Phoenix just dropped back and sat in and played on the counter. FFS they had Brockie playing as their holding midfielder!!. With the extra man and ample space the Jets seized control of the game.
I understand the prick with the whistle was only following the rules but it is a pre season game after all. Why not just go to the sideline and order GVE to sub Tiago and Herbert to sub Muscat and Sigmund??? After all it didn't matter seriously??
GVE and Herbert would have got **** all out of this match from the send offs onwards. At least keeping it 11 V 11 would provide the contest they were after and would have provided some value to the spectators.
Anyway as the Jets started seizing control eventually the chance came and Goodwin took it about 35 mins in. Burst past the opponent in the box and drilled across goal with great venom and into the bottom corner. Quality play.
Phoenix continued to get quite upset and you could see it was about to spill over again soon but players remained intact and score stayed the same until HT
Second Half the Jets started really pushing the case and were rewarded about 55 mins in when Goodwin had a lash from the edge of the box. Was right behind it and with some Ronaldo like late swerve Paston misjudged and could only parry the ball into goal. Very good shot but some average keeping to say the least. Speaking of Goodwin from what I have seen very impressed so far. How the **** does David Carney get picked for the Socceroos over this bloke?? FMD
Not long after it should have been 3 but after great lead up play put Taggart in showed some great predatory instincts to lash at goal out of very little. Ball that cannoned off the bar.
60 mins in and Dura got sent. Had been blowing a fuse for a while and had even gotten away with one hell of a spray to the linesman after a ball ricochet off opposing players ( **** knows who it come off ) and Nix didn't get the call. Dura was racing across park and beat Neville to the ball. Defo yellow but the ref waived play on as Nix were attacking. Dura in back play though lashed out and kicked Neville and almost started WW3 again. Same again instant red.
Before the game restarted GVE rang the subs with the whole team pretty much off and the reserves bench on. Straight away the Jets caught Nix squre and Jesic was away and bearing down on goal. Once again this **** ****ed it up!! FMD
From about this point on though the Jets pretty much dominated thought they did give one good chance away that BK done well to save. Eventually Jesic got a touch and poked home from 6 yards to make it 3. Then the **** missed a couple of more chance. Young Bruno started showing some classy touch and Virgili was causing havoc down the right.
Mitchy Cooper nearly capped the game off with a dream goal. Ball floated in from the left was allowed to pass across his body and was then hit on the volley with power at goal. Net bulged but side netting. Would have been a ****ing cracker not seen since some **** called Brockie played for us.
Nix done well in the last 30 mins not to lose the plot and get the game abandoned although their No5 was trying hard to test the refs patience
Anyways 3-1 to Jets
Goodwin MOM for the 1st XI with nice contributions from Browny and Jobe - Kanta is still a waste of ****ing space and I can't wait til he joins the Jets XI in Sydney. I am seriously concerned as to how fuicked up his progress has been since he come onto the scene at HAL level. WTF is going on???
Virgili MOM for the 2nd XI with nice contributions from Bruno and Mitchy Cooper - Jesic was and is still SHIT
Special mention though must go to the **** driving the White Tarago down John Renshaw on the way home. Your mum must be proud of you 70km in a 100 km zone 100km in a 80km zone, speeding up for the overtaking lanes and driving in two ****ing lanes. The poor Member had to pull over on the way home thanks to you.
Being that nervous about your driving how the **** can I be expected to work out what you are doing when you don't seem to know?? I just tensed up and got a cramp in the right leg. Being the Members Chariot is a manual I figured it would be best for some kerbside calisthenics must have looked a sight some **** doing aerobics at Tarro on the side of the Highway rather than trying to operate all 3 pedals with my left leg.

Talking to Ifill after the game and he said he was glad we kept Tiago as he will do more damage to the Jets than good. He would rather play against Tiago rather than Raygun. He reckons he's a real threat GVE take note.
With regard to the ref. Welcome to the a league mate. Thought he didn't do a bad job considering all the shite that went on. Yeah maybe he should have let them replace players at half time but he didn't.

Jobe looked very good in that defensive midfield role, the pressure might have eased on him with the send-offs but he has a great balance between physicality and technique when you play against a team like this. He managed to hold the ball well, direct play, and knock about some very nice passes.
Taggart, I think this guy is ready. Maybe not as a starting player every match, but I expect him to feature heavily this season. He can turn players so well with his back to goal, he links up with those around him, and as MFKS said, he has a good striker's instinct for goal.

I agree. The players were just being a bunch of grubs, wouldn't have the balls to do that kind of shit if it were an A-League match otherwise they'd be facing multiple match suspensions.

Pretty much what MFKS said, but he also left out the incident where Brockie or Smith (I think it was Brockie) kicked at Birighitti when he collected the ball, and Mitchell got involved straight away with some shoving.
The actually tackle that sparked the brawl wasn't that bad imo, Wellington bloke got underneath Tiago, Tiago's momentum carried him over the top of the other du, it was kind of 50-50. Other du blows it and hits Tiago while he's getting up, mass brawl ensues
Oh yeah and you might be right about your boy Mitchell, not sure how good he is defensively but at least in terms of communication and experience he's a real leader from the back. More importantly though he seems to have adopted Dutchy's gameplan perfectly.

Ifill even Paul Ifill went into Tiago straight up with the knees, but vision obscured.
Jobe gets trampled. Tiago comes round the back with a big round house punch on muscat but misses. Connects with the second though.

No great loss anyway. I don't really see the pairing of Tiago and Mitchell as a success anyway. One of them and Ritter or one of them and Reegs/Chapman. Need a bit more speed in there.
Tiago as much as I am beginning to love his insanity at times is an issue in there without someone to cover him for speed as GVE is playing a very high line and Tiago is done for pace by nearly all HAL strikers.

before saturday night i actually hadn't been that impressed with josh mitchell, i thought he was a touch better than topor in the fact he could play a short pass.
His tackling was outstanding and when tiago went off he completely marshalled defence. The tackle he made on brockie in the second half when he was going through on goal was a cracker.
i was also very impressed with oxborrow, reminded me of jacob pepper in the pre-season last year, nothing amazing just solid all round the park.
i know how good goodwin () has been, but i have been just as impressed with scott neville, he has been very sound at the back and while he might not get as high goodwin he can still deliver a good cross and beat his man if he has to.
ribiero was classy but i want to see more of him, it seemed like he was running around following the ball whether thats what gve wants him to do i'm not sure.
at the end of the day it was a training drill for us 10 v 9 followed by 10 v 8. Virgili and ritter were hugging there respective sidelines and wheelhouse and co were just spraying passes to them.

My thoughts exactly, SFC have noted in their release about the game that its an away game against Newcastle which means we elected to go there.
Don't want to hear any more bitching from GVE or Middleby about regional games not being in NNSW when you take your own trial games to Budgewoi
Budgewoi ffs?
All I can think, is that they are trying to get a place that is kind of half-way for fans to get to..
Either that or Eags has put in some words to get it played where he is now..

All they need to do, is let both clubs deal with i.e Wellington has fined players and limited appearances etc etc.

On this, surely the only players that the Panel can fine/suspend are the players who got the red cards - everyone else the ref/s didn't think warranted a card.
Will be interesting to see what happens today at any rate.

isn't there recourse for the match review panel to look at things that the refereed missed? would be pretty easy to argue that the ref missed a lot of things in all that, given how much was going on. it would be different if he'd given them all yellow cards - a la griff.

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/newcastlejets/news-display/Tiago-Calvano-issued-fourgame-suspension/48639
found it meself.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) has handed down a four-game suspension to Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets defender Tiago Calvano (http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/newcastlejets/players/Tiago-Calvano/4366).
Calvano will miss the remainder of the Jets' pre-season games, but will be available for round one of the A-League season when the Jets take on Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium on October 7.
Newcastle Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the Club agreed with the FFA’s stance.
“We support the FFA’s decision and accept the punishment of a four-game suspension for Tiago," Middleby said.
"As a Club we don’t condone any form of retaliation or violent behaviour.
“The Newcastle Jets is a Club that prides itself on creating a family-friendly atmosphere for its Members and supporters."
The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) deemed the incidents involving Tiago Calvano (http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/newcastlejets/players/Tiago-Calvano/4366) in the 23rd minute of the pre-season match between the Jets and Wellington to involve a tackle on Manny Muscat and subsequent assault on a player.
As a consequence, the MRP handed Calvano a sanction of four matches, being the one Mandatory Match Suspension plus an additional sanction of three matches.
Following the FFA’s review, the Club will continue work through the matter internally.

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/tiago-and-muscat-receive-four-match-bans/48642
Newcastle Jets defender Tiago Calvano (http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/newcastlejets/players/Tiago-Calvano/4366) and Wellington Phoenix’s Manny Muscat (http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/wellingtonphoenix/players/Manny-Muscat/1896) have both been given four-match suspensions following their involvement in a brawl during a pre-season friendly between the two Hyundai A-League clubs.
In a serious blow to Wellington's pre-season preparations, two more Phoenix defenders have also been sanctioned, with Ben Sigmund (http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/wellingtonphoenix/players/Ben-Sigmund/1916) receiving a three-match ban, while club captain Durante will miss two games.
The rulings have been handed down by the independent Match Review Panel, following a special meeting to respond to the events in Newcastle last weekend.
The match erupted when Tiago fouled Muscat, who responded by throwing a punch, sparking an altercation between both teams.
Tiago, Muscat and Sigmund were all shown a straight red card.
Head of the Hyundai A-League Damien de Bohun was adamant the sort of behaviour which was on display is something he does not wish to see in football.
“This kind of unprofessional and unsportsmanlike behaviour has no place in our game,” said de Bohun.
“Having been involved in football for a long time it is very disappointing to witness the on-field incident that occurred on Saturday as it detracts from our sport – a sport built on speed, skill and flair”.
“I look forward to meeting with each Hyundai A-League Club before the season commences and reinforce not only our expectations on the professionalism of the sport but ways in which we can work together to grow the game.”
Wellington have already responded by fining their three players an undisclosed sum, saying in a statement, “Notwithstanding the play that led to the incidents, the club in no way condones any kind of retribution or fighting in a match. It is totally unacceptable and we have taken action immediately following the match.”
In accordance with the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations, the players will serve their respective suspensions in FFA sanctioned and approved Pre-Season matches and, if applicable, the Hyundai A-League Regular Season.
LOL. pre-season suspensions.

Tiago is a massive liability for our team anyway - why would we try and get him back on the field quicker?
I'm really hoping that Regan or Ritter get a chance to pair with Mitchell to see how they go. They both have more speed and aren't going to do the same stupid stuff we have come to expect from Tiago for a while now.

I don't care about tiago. I agree with all you're points. But giving out pre seasons bans is stupid and surely there is a loop hole of some kind.

I agree but why then is Tiago always starting these trial games, it looks like he's in the preferred CB pairing to me.
Time for Reg's or Chapman to step up if they hold any hopes of contributing this season.
tiago is our #1 centre back in the entire club.
if people are serious in they think chapman or regan are going to replace him, i'd personally want to see chapman in there. he's so much better than regan, it's obvious he oozes class that regan can't match. regan is a solid, scrappy defender who doesn't mind a chat on the field, but he's noticeably not at the same level as the other defenders in the team football-playing-wise. he's a super decent backup-backup to have when a few injuries go our way, but he's not hal starting level. it's only a matter of time & experience before chapman gets the opportuinity that curtis good from heart has been given - and future socceroos gigs.

i still see a future for tiago at cdm, he is the best passer in the club maybe one of the best in the league, and further up the pitch he would be less of a liability to making last ditch penalty giving challenges, this probably isn't really a possibility with pepper, kanta, jobe, rubez, etc who can all play that holding role, at least gary has looked into it.
i personally like both chapman and regan. Before saturdays fixture v phoenix i was questioning the aquisition of mitchell but he was a standout so kudos to him. That regan quality of being a solid, scrappy defender is actually what i like about him and his communication is first class. if both mitchell and tiago were injured/suspended i wouldn't be stressing at having the 2 younger ones at the back which in our history is a nice benefit to have.

Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC, 2pm Saturday 22nd September, Budgewoi Sports Complex
Sunday 9th September is the day the NBN State League GF is on. It is pretty poor form in my opinion that the club has organised a trial in Sydney on this date. What's wrong with the Saturday arvo/night??
I believe the entire squad should be in attendance at the State League GF doing PR work plugging brand Jets in light of it being the biggest day in Newy Local Football. Also after all the NNSW has thrown their way this winter with the free development they have by being included in the State League not being their is slightly offensive in my eyes.
Not to mention 2 wins for the Jets Yoof and they will be playing in the GF. They flogged Edgy about 1 month ago and assuming they get over them Saturday have a better than great chance V Magic/Olympic assuming they can keep their goalie on the park

MFKS has hit the nail on the head. State League GF is a great day and its a massive opportunity missed by the jets to have players in attendance handing out membership brochures, kissing babys and all other PR shit. Will be even bigger opportunity missed if the youth make the GF. You can imagine northerns reaction if the youth make the GF and the better players in chapman, pepper, virgilli and co are down in sydney instead of wanderers oval.
