Am I missing something? IIRC Wellington came 4th, and City 5th. Shouldn't City be in our pot and not Wellington?

Yep. I'm wrong. I forgot about them. I was trying to recall the table in my head

We aren't getting Wellington people.

OK. We'll get Melbourne City at home

It's based on Semi Finalists, not league table. Adelaide, City, Victory, Smurfs in Pot A. They get drawn last, guaranteed away trip to Member Federation clubs. **** it, let me find something and paste.

Grimario

Pot A: In the first pot are the four A-League semi-finalists Adelaide United, Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC. These teams will be drawn last, guaranteed a match against the remaining Member Federation sides, who will host the match.
Pot B: The remaining six A-League clubs will make up Pot B. They will be the first teams to know their fate, playing off against each other. The first name drawn out from the tie will be the home team.
Pot C: This pot contains all other teams — MetroStars and the 21 other Member Federation teams. 18 of these 22 names will be drawn out one at a time, with the first side drawn the home team. The last four clubs left in the pot will get games against A-League clubs from Pot A.

Damn was hoping Magic and Edgy would both get an A-League team. Still, Edgy v City sounds like a good night out, especially if they get some temp lighting and manage to get on Fox Sports. Great for the Eagles to play such a big game. Magic's gonna need improvement to beat Heidelburg.

The game won't be at Hunter stadium that much is almost a guarantee, rather than have it at wanderers like last year put it at No2 on a Wednesday.
Wednesday in town, student night bars/restaurants would appreciate the extra clientel, most local clubs train Tuesday/Thursday, No2 hosted the national side so it should be fine for an FFA Cup game and it's the perfect size for the crowd that would be expected.

Please point out the negativesof playing at No2?

No real negatives apart from having to pay the Wanderers and NHRU to use their ground. They'll no doubt kick up a fuss but would be a great venue and perfect size for a mid-week cup game. Could possibly be a good alternate for Edgeworth too if they can't get Jack McLaughlan on Fox Sports (if they're on TV). Don't know what the lighting is at No.2 but you'd think good enough to have Fox film there.

Edit: *that's if the Wanderers own the ground. On second thought it's probably council-owned. In which case no negatives at all.

Correct it's Council own but NHRU have a good deal as they helped fund it. Also I agree on the alternative venue for Edgy.

Edgeworth will need lighting of at least Lux500 to host the A-league team at Jack McLaughlan, and at least 1200lux if it's to be shown as the main game on fox.

A simple google maps and there is no way they have the 1200lux for fox.

Could have sworn it was 400lux for Fox. Is there a chance of Edgy being able to bring in some temp lighting of some sort to meet the 1200lux minimum. May sound like a stupid question but I'm not too savvy with lighting.

I never suggested there were any negatives to playing at No2 just that your reasoning was daft... "Can we please move our cup game to NEWCASTLE since we are the NEWCASTLE JETS?" was the daft bit. As if somehow playing at Broadmeadow for a cup game makes us less Newcastle than playing every single home game at New Lambton.

Even though rugby threw a bit of $$$ at No2, it's still a council venue. The knoughts are there this Sunday in second grade. Given the traffic and the time of year, it will be ripped up worse than Hunter Stadium mid rugby season, so I wouldn't go there.

Also, My understanding is 500lux is all that is necessary for TV broadcast.

I think it's a rather valid reason as research from around the World has shown Clubs often have better crowd figures when games are play in the heart of the CBD. Match day becomes much more then just driving to a white elephant in the Suburbs, rather it becomes a day outing with bars and restaurants in the surrounding area building up the atmosphere pre-game.

Again, your argument ignores the fact that we don't play our regular season league fixtures IN NEWCASTLE. Address that point instead of making up stuff about the rest of your post which I am not disagreeing with in the slightest.

How about Cessnock?

I don't know what the pitch is like now in rugby league season, but the pitch for Japan v Auckland City was immaculate. The best pitch I have ever seen in fact.

I think it should be in the mix when trying to find a venue.

Agreed, a great pitch. No idea how the lighting is though.

The downside to playing at Cessnock is it isn't using a NNSW football-specific ground. I like the idea of keeping the matches at existing football grounds like Magic Park/Jack Mclaughlin so that the experiences and advantages (inc financial) are kept within our game.

No, I didn't make that assumption at all. I don't protest it because its an uphill battle.
However I have stated on here many times that I would prefer us to play in at National park at a boutique 15-18,000 seater stadium.
Why I don't protest this all the time is because I know it's pipedream stuff.

http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/7056/ffa-cup/2015/07/02/13233242/sharks-resigned-to-relocating-home-cup-clash

Sharks resigned to relocating 'home' Cup clash

The Queensland side, who exited the inaugural competition at the hands of the Central Coast Mariners, may have to shift their game away from the Gold Coast

Palm Beach SC fear they may have to move their FFA Cup home clash away from the Gold Coast due to insufficient lighting at the club's regular base.

The Sharks - shock quarter-finalists in the competition last year - were drawn at home against former National Soccer League powerhouse South Melbourne FC in one of this year's big lower-tier match-ups.

But it seems unlikely they will get to hold the match at their Mallawa Drive headquarters.

With the cost to play the match at Robina’s Cbus Super Stadium also deemed too high, the Sharks may be forced to relocate their home match to Brisbane.

“It is very doubtful we can play the match on the Gold Coast,” club president Peter Williamson told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“We’ve already paid $3000 to enter the competition and it will cost a minimum of $12,000 to play it at Cbus Super Stadium.

“We’d love to play it there but to do that we’d need a sponsor to tip in some money.”

Williamson said the lights at Mallawa Drive were registered at 130 lux, with FFA Cup match venues requiring somewhere between 200 and 250 lux.

If the club is unable to find a solution to play the match on the Gold Coast, Perry Park in Brisbane looms as the most likely venue.

So it "may" be possible for Edgy to host. Here's hoping!

Disappointed that Edgy couldn't get a TV spot but guess Melb City isn't as big as Victory so they get shafted. Should be a good three games. Happy that all games are at Magic Park as it's a decent ground to watch games at. Glad that the Jets won't be playing in a near empty Hunter Stadium like the Sorrento v Sydney game at nib Stadium and Mariners v Wellington at Bluetongue. Good luck to them, they've put in the hard yards over the years to get Magic Park as the premier football venue in this region.
Edgey have made some good improvements in regards to seating in recent years but as documented their lighting doesn't meet the requirements. Their drainage still leaves a lot to be desired and is still one of the worst in the NNSW NPL.

Yeah mate, sums up why there are 7 pages on Jason Hoffman and only 6 pages on "Our new club - what do we want", half the users on here are only about being "tongue in cheek" or "sarcastic" etc. trying to belittle someone else not about saying something constructive

Well I for one have read your posts and agree 100% stopper2.
In fact, in a bid to actually make a difference instead of just talking about it, I've started a petition on change.org to get Hoffman the #9 shirt for this season.
I feel if we can get enough signatures we can present it to Coach Miller and make it happen.

Can you please go to the website and search for 'give Hoff the 9' page and sign up.

Haterz like Blackmac and his hater mates need not apply.

Together we can make a difference.

Cheers,
Plague.

Constructive??.... Ok let's start: BK: kind of a band aid keeper . Birraz: has to prove himself (again). The two center back: nothing like Spira or the French dude from Victory. The Korean ok but still has to prove a bit more and same as the Serbian ( And they are not the victory guy who play for Macedonia or the roar Broich fellow yet). Kanta: Bayern laught at what they saw: Can't even pass the ball...... Carney can play but needs quality around him to shine..... After that who have we got ? Hoffman.... You really think he has got the X factor?..... Then the young guns including Cooper and they all have Done nothing at HAL Level yet..... So it's that constructive enough for you or should we go through let's say Melbourne city roster or victory.. Or FC..... ????

I'm gonna assume you were a little cranky when you wrote because there is some weird ones in this one. Keepers are correct, neither are great. Delpierre costs as much as our backline and has 1 more season left in his legs and Spira has just left the league and probably deserved to before last season. So you're rating probably two of the most outstanding defenders against our 2 that have never played a game together? Doesn't a little voice in your head tell you that doesn't make any sense?

Give them some gametime together before you write them off. Leaky was great going forward and is pretty damn strong for his size. If the team has good structure he is a very decent HAL player. Hoffman is replacing Neville, who although will probably become the next Elrich didn't have his head switched on when he played last year. So Hoffman if he plays as well as he did last year can replace Neville.

So that leaves us with a basic, but on paper HAL level backline comparable with Adelaide, Wellington, Brisbane and CCM? With some good coaching, some improvement and a decent Midfield we shouldn't ship goals like last year? I'd call that a positive from last season
Instead of just hoping we sign a team of stars, and this isn't aimed at you lquiquer, maybe we should be hoping we build a team of stars? We have a salary cap and marquess don't guarantee you titles, just ask Heskey and Del Piero, so the playing field isn't that unlevel that we couldn't win with a team that only cost the Salary cap?

Isn't that the concern though? Instead of signing Cowburn immediately, we have gone back to the annals of history and signed a guy who is almost universally loathed, publically bagged "his home town" and has been distinctly average for his entire career in the league... so instead of building a team of youngsters and turning them into stars, we sign Hoffman.

How can you not see the issue people have with this? Is there really not a young up and coming right back *coughCowburncough* unattached or at a NNSW club that we could have looked at to build this team you speak of?

Hoffman, smh.

Thats true, my point was more about the centrebacks than Hoffman. Mostly cause I'm sick to death of talking about him. I want Cowburn as much as you however since i think he will be signed up in a few weeks i didn't really bring him up. But yes, signing Cowburn as Hoffmans backup/potential starter and keep Hoffman as a bench option for multiple positions is a good idea in my opinion.

I don't think we've had an impressive pairing like this since the NTS Ljubo days. Jackson was impressive in his 5 or so games last year for Roar, even scoring a goal against us (bastard). Absolutely no idea what to make of Muata-Marlow. But he and Jackson are the exact kind of players I want us to be signing (preferably NNSW or from Jerks youth set up).

As for the rest...

BK/Biraz are roughly on par. One has a much higher ceiling if he can apply himself and keep his head in the game... and both are roughly on par with half of the GK's in the league.
Only half a season to go on but Leaky G is also the best left back we have had in a while... better going forward than Gallaway, Ritter, Byun, d'Apuzzo and at least as good defensively.

Our midfield is threadbare, Kanta isn't half the player his alleged pay packet should represent, Barresi is yet to play any senior football anywhere and Cooper is going to find it tough going if he is the only one on midfield creating anything.
Think we are much stronger out wide... Alivodic, again only based on half a season, is going to be huge for us this year. Carney, if he pulls his finger out, will be immense as well. Lundy is the only real back up though so I reckon we will sign one or both of Ramsay/Danning if they are on peanuts.
We have no one up front, can't rely on Pavicevic as first choice and no idea what Brennan is capable of at this level.

We desperately need a midfielder and striker, I think everyone is aware of those glaring holes in the starting line up.

Now would you go as far as to say that we are 2 signings away from a respectable team? I would think that if we haven't just thrown money at anyone off contract Miller must be doing some sort of research on who he wants. I genuinely think that with a very good striker and a very good midfielder we could make a dramatic improvement on last year. Get some Ramsay/Dannings to come of the bench when need be to leave room for 2 big signings and i'll be happy.

The big questions is where do we find 2 good players and can we convince them to come? Ange could get in the ear of some almost socceroos and send them to his mate Miller?

I would say we are two signings away from a solid starting eleven. The fact that we are talking about Ramsay/Danning on the bench when you look at other squads (coasties aside) means we aren't going to have a good "team" while we have so many players that we perceive are being paid well over market value.

Would love Ange to get involved... get in the ear of some younger Socceroos and convince them they need guaranteed football to develop and under his man Miller is a good choice. Can't think of anyone that used to be here that would fit the bill and who have played less than 5 games between them since leaving...

They the kind of players we should sign before we get Hoffman, Ramsey... Etc because we won't have $$$ left to get them soon.

Problem is we need to sign enough players to meet minimum squad requirements so we are going to sign the Hoffmans and Ramsays on (hopefully) minimum coin before dipping our toe in the market for the unknowns you speak of.

Good point. I don't think we have the time or the right people in place to scout out players like them this off season, which isn't really the FFAs fault. That is something we need to discuss when we get new owners. That said he might be looking at some overseas players as we speak. The same people who found Li Kee and Enver are still at the club aren't they?

You've raised some fair points mate but tell you what, I was fairly optimistic for last season with the squad assembled and even had a good feeling about Stubbins based on what he was saying (yeah he fooled a lot of people).
For me this season is virtually like the club starting all over again, I just can't see the point in passing judgement on anyone yet, be it the coaching staff or the players. Miller is an unknown entity as a senior coach and many of the players (signed so far) are untried and untested at this level or are discards from other clubs....not too dissimilar to the WSW's in their first season. Don't forget too that Ono was signed very late and came into the side weeks away from full fitness.
Either way I'm not getting carried away thinking yes, we are going to turn it around this season or conversely thinking that it's going to be another debacle. With still just under 3 months away till the season, what's the point in getting all worked up and arguing with each other?
Say by round 7, we will probably have had a good idea of where we are at and then we can probably say whether the club is on the right track or not.

If anyone thinks this ship will be turned round quickly, you've got rocks in your head.

Miller has been very clear, "A team to be proud of"

Never once mentioning ladder position, he knows there's lots of work to be done and that the squad he goes into this season with has been hamstrung by past contract negotiations.

The worst thing we can do is get our hopes up for this coming season.

So long as we play smart, never give up on games and don't once look like a deer in the headlights I'll be happy.

I really enjoyed the Magic game last night, just as I enjoyed it last year.

Magic seemed less competitive than they were last year.

Why did Casa not start? He's one of my favourite state league players, and definitely made an impact when he came on.

Kale looked severely out of his depth - I felt like he did himself no favours.

Every time I watch Scott Pettit play, I'm more convinced someone needs to give him a HAL contract. IMO there's nothing that Fabio Ferreira (former AUFC, current CCM player) can do that Pettit couldn't in the same environment (and given time to adjust to the HAL). They're very similar players style and looks wise ( :rof: ) but man, I am just always impressed when I watch Scott play.

#4 for Magic is Ben Higgins, yeah? He always leaves me underwhelmed.

I have a bit of a man-crush on Rhys Tippett, so bias noted, but I thought he made a good impact for what time he had. Was devastated his goal was offside!

The crowd seemed lower than Magic/Strikers last year to me. As in noticably lower.

I've read before that there are certain guys in the VPL like Lujic who have been offered deals by HAL clubs in the past but it isn't substantial enough for them to abandon their current careers. As in if they leave their current job for say 60k at the Jerks for a season, they have nothing to go back to if their football career doesn't kick off. With their own jobs + football payments in the VPL, it's more financially viable for them short and long term.

I'm pretty sure we attempted to sign a few South players when we signed Brennan.

Similarly, Perth will send out a significantly changed line-up.
This will be Scott Milller's first competitive hit out as the Jets manager. Only Branko Culina and Craig Deans have won their first competitive match as manager of the club.
Should Edgeworth fail to beat Melbourne City the Jets will have the chance to be the first club from the region to progress to the round of 16.

I've read a few reports and I think Franjic is unfit to play tonight. Can anyone confirm?

And what are people's thoughts on our starting line-up? I think we will see the starting XI from the Tamworth match A-Team be the FFA cup side except Birraz starting ahead of BK. If it was expected that the B-Team would be conceding possession and allowing numerous shots to be fired, then wouldn't you put the keeper you want in line to receive some practice? Or is that backwards logic?

There is a chance there will be no players appearing for the Jets from last years loss. The only players remaining in the squad from last year are Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski and Brandon Lundy.

Barresi was on the bench last year IIRC, and is still in our squad. Not sure if he's back playing yet though.

Absolutely loved last night. What a terrific game!

Luke Walker - take a bow m8. You were absolutely phenomenal. You even levelled Erik Paartalu at one stage! Hands down the performance of the Cup, for me.

Was also really impressed with Keanu Moore & Brody Taylor. How old are these guys, like 18ish or so yeah? IMO there's no reason they shouldn't be playing for the Jerks in a couple of years. With the right coaching (which they're obviously currently getting, tbf) they could do some great things.

Ditto, very impressed with the above mentioned players and the whole team. Tactics were well thought out by coaching staff and the players were disciplined enough to stick to them and dug in to run the game out pretty well. Only beaten by two quality free kicks that 98% of the keepers in oz wouldn't get near.
City were poor. Passing was ordinary, intensity was pedestrian and they were dumb tactically.

ON THIS DAY - 5/8/2014

Today marks the Jets first FFA cup match. On a cold night at Magic Park the JEts took on Perth Glory in the inaugural FFA Cup. Entering the competition in the Round of 32, it also marked the first competitive match for new coach Phil Stubbins. The match would see a number of new players given their debut for the Jets including Northern Irishman Jonny Steele, Jeronimo Neumann, Sam Gallagher and Adrian Madaschi as well as a late appearance for youth product Brandon Lundy.

Both teams fielded strong line-ups for the match.

Newcastle JetsPerth Glory
Ben KennedyDaniel Vukovic
Craig GoodwinDino Djulbic
Kew JaliensJoshua Risdon
Sam GallagherScott Jamieson
Samuel GallawayJack Clisby
Jacob PepperDiogo Ferreira
Adrian MadaschiNebojsa Marinkovic
Jonny SteeleRichard Garcia
Ben KantarovskiMitch Nichols
Joel GriffithsSidnei
Jeronimo NeumannAndrew Keogh

The Jets started brightly but were soon behind after new Glory import Andy Keogh struck in the 20th minute. With club legend Joel Griffiths leading the line, there was some nice link up play with recent signing Jeronimo Neumann but the Jets behind at half time. Come the second half and there wasn't much improvement from the Jets as they conceded a late second to Keogh, which would be an omen for the rest of the season to come, in the 88th minute. This match would also be the last competitive appearance for the club of Craig Goodwin who would later complete a transfer back to his home town of Adelaide.

Who in their right mind describes that bomb disaster as a great pick up?

Tbf our club described the acquisition of Poljak as a major coup.

Don't get me wrong, I am extremely stoked by us getting him, but I would have thought "major coup" is left for like marquees and big name players - not for a solid no-frills player who played in the team who competed with us for the spoon.

That's harsh on Poljak. If we had signed Gallagher or Gallaway and described it as a "major coup", you could compare the two situations... but you'd have been a better signing for Perth (especially now Vuka's mo won't be around for November).

From all reports, Warren absolutely has killed the NPL since leaving Sydney.

Leaky G and Alidovic look the goods down our left hand side.
