Big day for Cooks Hill if Stoko and the subbies win their catch up matches as per table and they don't get all 3 points today they will be just about out of it. A big shock for a team with that much pedigree... seemed to have lost their way this year in a comp that lost 3 of its big guns... Is that how you guys see it? I'm away now so only follow comp through this forum and table results... Preseason I assumed they would be way too strong for the first past the post comp with their depth and record what has gone so wrong?
Cooks Hill now in the 4. Thank you for concern.

Has any other clubs been timing matches from 3rd grade and Reserve grade?
Over the last few weeks every game has had halves reduced by 2mins.
The players for every game are out on the field on time and it always seems to be the refs who are late.

We time all ours and they have been on pretty consistent. With first having stoppage they are always longer we have had multiple halves go into 50mins +

I was told our third grade game against Charlestown last weekend was shortened due to earlier (presumably junior) games running overtime. I think the first half was 35 minutes or something like that.

We got the exact same thing when we played out there and that was Ressies. didn't make much sense when the KO times allowed for normal game times. So there was a large gap between ressies and firsts???

It happens very often at Charlestown oval due to the shear number of junior games that take place earlier in the day. You would think they would chope 5-10 mins off the juniors games leading up to the zone league games to finish on time but this never happens leaving the zone league 3rd grade game to be cut short.

Yes it was cut back to 35 minute halves! We didn't kickoff until 1:45pm not 1:30pm which threw our warmup into all sorts. I'm all for the late kickoffs to accomodate all games played at the ground but at least make sure we will kickoff on time, if that means setting a 15min gap between the junior games and us zone leaguers then so be it.

I understand that sometimes the junior games can affect kick off times when zone leagues sides play after.
What I don't understand is how at Suburbs when we only have 3 zone league game all day they can still manage to justify cutting time off the end considering they are late to take the field.
I'm pretty certain 1st grade is unaffected but the lower grades seem to have a larger gap inbetween games compared to previous years.

Yep. Every game we're out on the field waiting on the refs for 4-5 minutes at the start + half time. First grade included. They seem to take longer breaks/take longer to take the field, then call games short.. Bit of a joke really.

You would have to think Barnsley and Terrace will be there at the end (well who knows in this comp?) but who will the other two be?

I think I said at the half way point that top 4 would be Barnsley, Terrace, Cooks Hill and Suburb. I still believe that to be the case bit I think Morriset may just sneak in if Suburb, Terrace or Cooks Hill give them a chance to do so.

Didn't see much of first grade. Looked pretty even before I left 20 mins in or so. I was surprised when I heard the result as I'd seen our boys butcher a few chances. Wallsend are a decent team. I honestly cant see the comp being decided until the final round with a few teams either missing out via goal difference or a point or so. From what I've seen every team with the exception of maybe Charlie wouldn't look out of place in the finals. For me there is no standout side this year. Some teams are strong against one and weak against others.
Macca

Tend to agree with Wilso on most points there.
I think I agree on your first four Premy, Barnsley and Terrace would be a shock to miss out. Other two could be made up from the next 5 teams but I think Suburb and Cooks Hill are most likely. The margins in this comp are so small though, we're well down in 9th but most of the games we have been in have felt very tight and been decided on "moments". I would suspect that many other games this season amongst other teams have been the same. With that being the case, everything's still up for grabs for most and will likely continue to be for a few more weeks yet.

Being the first time playing there for many of us at Suburb we had no idea of where we were ment to warm up. That said I seen no problem with it as literally 15 minutes beforehand there was a team training exactly where we warmed up at the opposite end.
If it was such a big issue you could have come and directed us to the correct area to warm up which we would have happily complied with. On behalf of Garden Suburb I would like to extend our apologies for any misunderstanding.

We were standing around taking free kicks. The goal keeper was the only one in the box aside from when the outfield players ran through to get the ball. Exactly the same as the substitutes at half time in pretty much every game I've seen in this league.
We warmed up on the sidelines.

Zing what a come back… incisive and to the point… of course you realise being a gramma pedant isn’t a sign of intelligence just a lack of imagination… it’s a bit like thinking getting players to run around in circles is akin to coaching them to win football matches… (whatever the level). I’m assuming from your tired old come back that you are Cooks Hill’s new super coach who’s taken the strongest squad in the competition and turned them into also rans… the rest of the comp thanks you.
Feel free to correct my gramma; I’m sure it will be easier than correcting the malaise you’ve created for that football team…

Morisset just seem to have our measure, that said last week we had 3-4 good chances in the first 10 minutes. If one of those had of found the net it may of been a different game. Take nothing away from Morisset they got themselves back into the game were clinical with their chances and shut us out to deserve the 3 points.

I think certainly Barnsley are in, 30 points is probably the safe number for semis this year (which probably means the next 7 teams are in with a shot) The run in for each team will be interesting and I would say that the next 2 weeks could define what teams are in with a real shot...

I remember reading the rules a little while ago saying that if a club has two sides in the zone leagues there must be a one league gap between them.
So if the ZPL side was to be relegated that would mean auto relegation for the ZL2?
Can anyone recall this happening in the Zone League Era?

I'm not sure its a 100% written rule - I know that Cooks Hill have been told that Northern would prefer a gap between their two top teams. When the request was out to have a team go up they were told that other clubs would be taken over them.....

I can understand the rule when both teams are in Zone League, but when Zone League and NL1 are two distinct comps with no promotion or relegation the rule makes little sense.
Would it be easier just to say each club has one team irrespective of competition?

Could be wrong but I seem to remember one of those grand final wins coming without scoring a goal and being beaten convincingly in semis and going through due to the opposition being made to forfeit one of the legs. Also makes a lot of sense to focus on ressies when the club can't get promoted due to the team in new fm.

In my opinion there is at least 4/5 cookers ressies that really should be in their first grade side. With that being said we play weekend football and what's to say there isn't outside factors which dictate where a player would prefer to play. Age/commitment/family/work. I hardly think any club would intentionally push to only win a ressies comp.

True. And I hope that it isn't the case. It could be the players though. A few of them seem older. Maybe they like the idea of a successful year in reserve grade rather than flogging it out in first grade. 13-0 is impressive. Especially given the strength of some of the ressies sides around.

without going back through the table, i think it would be unfair for the Cooks Hill res guys to be played in first grade and letting the 'first graders' go down to play in reserves and play in semis
from memory Cooks Hill firsts still had a good chance half way through the season and probably still do so there wasnt/isnt really any need for changing it up,
its an awkward situation for any club,
us at Barnsley dont want play around with our squads too much,
we have guys in 3rds that wouldnt look out of place in res, but they have worked very hard to get where they are this year,
our res are starting to gel a little better and fighting out some wins, so we now have a chance to make semis
in my opinion this is the time of year to leave squads as they are, get some consistency and get ready or push for finals.
if it was 4-5 games in to the season then go ahead and change everything up,
eligibility for finals also comes into it

From what I've seen Cooks hill have about 6 really solid first graders then about 20 fringe first graders, which is obviously gonna form a real solid ressies team regardless of selection, even their 3rds had about 3 or 4 players that would walk into any other teams ressies. There seems to be a lot of remorse or jealousy towards the club on here, which I think they will only take as a compliment from where everyone is predicting they should be.

1st grade is named from all available players, then ressies, then 3rds, I assume just like every other squad in the comp, as it should be. Remember this isn't a reserve grade suddenly winning the last half of the comp after 1sts are out of it, it's a reserve grade who has not dropped a game from the start of the year. Anyone who thinks a lower team gets stacked from round 1 is having a laugh! We just have a very strong ressies team and firsts isn't going as well as their potential possibly, no need to look for conspiracy theories!
...and as for the morisset ressies debacle from 2 years ago, yep, cookers got done over 2 legs but went through because the morisset captain got a red card an thought he could be cheeky and play the next week in the finals. He got caught and they rightly got a forfeit given. Too bad, so sad.

This promotion ban chat keeps coming up but I've never actually ever heard someone from the association say it's a rule, I think people just assume it is. Even if it was, who's not playing to win every week anyway, regardless of if you go up or not. Maybe promotion it's not all it's cracked up to be, mori crawled back to ZL1 after a season in ZPL and warners bay look like they are coming back next year!

Definitely my point. The guys in res have done it from the start when firsts were also going good. Now that cookers first arent going as good as expected other factors need to be considered.
But in saying that. Ive always been of the opinion that first grade is always the priority. Everyone should want to play as high as possible

Thanks to the bero boys who have asked to check on our young reserve grader. For those who told him to get up and stop whinging thanks for your compassion. I had my doubts initially but it was clear he was in a lot of pain.
He had gone into surgery this morning for a shoulder reconstruction after a grade 5 separation of the ac joint.

We have had a stupid amount of players missing these last 6 weeks for various reasons. All 3 grades have not had a consistent line up in this time. Reserve grade have copped it the hardest with injuries and players being pushed into 1st grade to cover but that's the way it goes.

We played poorly the first half, gifted some easy goals. Down 2-0 at halftime. Their keeper made at least 4 ridiculous saves most 1 on 1, he had to get MOTM for them.
We came out better in the second half, just couldn't finish the 10-15 chances we had.

Yeh stocko are shit in Ressies you must have been really shit the whole game for them to beat you.
Keeper had a great game but hardly the difference in the end. Also three well taken goals hardly "gifted".

You're right Wilso everyone is keen to bang on about chances missed and crazy good keeping when in the end the only stat that matters is who scores the most goals. A 3-2 win is a 3-2 win. The team that scores the most goals is the better team it really doesn't matter how they went about it. If your team doesn't score enough goals you need to adapt to change that or end up at the bottom end of the table...

Like all clubs you can only put out the best team you have on the day, we also had players out and late changes to the squad on game day. It happens every week so that is null and void.
Ok so lets put bias aside.
You guys controlled the best part of the first half, you pressed us high up the park and put us of our game. First goal came from this pressures after winning the ball in a dangerous area with a nice calm finish to take a deserved lead. Second goal I would hardly say was "well taken". A corner that wasn't cleared, it came from a miss hit shot that squeezed through a packed six yard with the keeper seeing late and the shot going threw his legs.
After the second goal we then started to get back into the game, 3 great chances which were denied by the goal keeper could have seen us level or in front at half time. That said you guys also had a strong chance from a free header that could have put you up by 3 before half time.
Second half.
We came out a lot better a started to control the game a got back to playing the way we should have in the first half. We controlled the possession without really creating many chances. Your third goal then came from a breakdown and counter attack which I must say was finished brilliantly.
We then made a few changes and it was one way traffic, we then squandered at least 4 more great chances a finally got the 2 late goals.
Now lets get to "being humble"?
Were you being humble when you cleared a ball into the bush with 5 to go when you could have just knocked it out? Then proceed to have a shot at the person who fetched the ball and questioned you about having to kick it as far as you did?
Was Rolo "being humblel" when he took 5 minutes to leave the park when being substituted and proceeded to laugh at wasting time when he was walking back onto the park whilst being substituted?
Or the bloke who went down injured asking us to kick the ball out but had a miracles recovery less than 5 seconds later once you guys retained possession, was he "being humble"?
The bloke who I can only believe was on some great acid or is vision impaired as all he saw all day was Pelicans. Was he "being humble" with his ironic yet casual racism?
Yes we left the park thinking it was a day that could have gone very different but I take nothing away from you guys, you played hard a fair and were clinical with your chances.
All in all thanks for a great day.
Mate I was knackered from running big Bon ragged all game 😉! Haha plus I come from the far wing. I'm not exactly going to sprint off am I? Only reason I stopped was because Bon yelled something out to me which I didn't quite hear. I was just being polite. So shoot me.
And I do remember Bon actually laughing and nodding his head at the ball clearing as he would do exactly the same thing as I'm sure most of you guys would in the same position after a year like ours in reserves. (Pretty sure the same thing happened in firsts anyway with a few balls landing on the top field with 5 mins to go) it's a part of the game. Get over it. Every team does it.
I do feel for the bloke in reggies who did his ankle with ten to go. Hope he's alright and he's back on the park soon. Would suck for him to miss finals football after the good season your ressies have had. Best wishes.
And I think you're selling my goal short! Wasn't a corner was a throw in which was flicked on. Wasn't a miss hit shot that fell to me. It was a well controlled pull down which I called for our bloke to do. The worst part of the goal was the deflection that my shot which I struck well took off the poor pitch and left the poor keeper with not much he could do (except maybe close his legs) as it turned square off a dry dustbowl subcontinent like pitch that the Indian cricket team would have been licking their lips at!
Overall I think we deserved the win in reserves and all results probably were deserved across the day. Except maybe firsts where we could have jagged a draw if it wasn't for the denying of one of the most blatant handballs in the box I've ever seen. The only 2 people in the whole ground who didn't think it was a pen was the large moustached man with the whistle and his chimney like mate on the sideline. No denying we were crap in firsts. Definitely didn't deserve a win but a draw maybe. Could go on about all the blokes we had out as well but end of the day we were crap and suburbs were clinical in front of goal. No sour grapes.
As for the heckling and name calling. It goes on every weekend. Grow a pair and get over it. It was men to men. Who cares. It's called banter. No lines were crossed. If you can't cop being called a pelican you probably are playing the wrong sport. Is being called a pelican cutting you that deep? Surely not. Close relative of a kingfisher anyway. No slight nor casual racism took place.
I just wish I could understand that burley English men on the hill who was relentless all day. I'm sure he had some great banter but was just difficult to interpret most with his thick accent. Does a great impersonation of a fog horn tho!

It's a work in progress, would've been a lot nicer if we had a chance to get some water on it before hand, games Friday night & Saturday stopped that..
The pitch is the best its been at this time of the year, in a long time. Not great, but still has grass is most places.
We have been getting a lot more support recently, with the work the committee has been putting in.
Hopefully it can get a good top soil and water in the off season to get it really nice for the start of next season.

Banter is fine. No problem with the Pelican call either, it was rather funny the first time I heard it, it lost its wit after the 20th time hearing it.
However racism is crossing the line casual or not.
Prime example of it in your comment just hear, making fun of someone's accent and derogatory comments about were someone was born is racist. Oh but that's ok you can be racist to a white Anglo can't you, this statement and the few made yesterday warrant an apology. I won't hold my breath waiting for one but we'll just "cop it" shall we.

Comments like "mate speak English, I can't understand a word your saying" is in my opinion racist. Weather that comment is directed at an Asian, African or Ango Englishmen is besides the point, there were racial connotations behind the statements and in my opinion it is crossing the line.
I also thought it was a great day across the 3 games unfortunately for me it was soured by the news I received about some comments made by people in your Club and further reinforced by comments made by you today in trying to somehow justify them. If that makes me a peanut then by all means refer to me from now on as peanut premy and I'll refer to you from now on as racist rolo.

Comments like "mate speak English, I can't understand a word your saying" is in my opinion racist. Weather that comment is directed at an Asian, African or Ango Englishmen is besides the point, there were racial connotations behind the statements and in my opinion it is crossing the line.
.
Respectfully, I think you're wrong. Not denying there's racism in our society and in football, or that the phrase mentioned could be used racially but I don't think its inherent. I think you're drawing a long bow there. Some people are hard to understand. Some people have excellent English. I don't see anything wrong with that comment personally, nor do I think it has any racial undertones.
Sounds like a good game and if Suburb deserved more out of it, it wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last time for them, or for any other club.
We felt very hard done by on the weekend having a pretty controversial penalty given after a couple of fouls on us were turned down in the 15 seconds leading up to it which gave Terrace their 1-0 victory, and felt we were good for a point or more out of the game. Seems the kinds of things that happen week in week out when you are struggling to post wins. But we can at least be happy with the performance, and it was an enjoyable game. We hope to make an impact on the finals race with games against Stockton and Suburb coming up in the final rounds.

Thanks suburbs for the good day. I do feel for yas with that pitch. Can see the effort you guys are putting in. But it's a rough patch. Do yous get much help from the council out there?
Hopefully you will see big changes in our pitch next season.
Late in the off season (late march) after realising big patches of the pitch weren't recovering, we started both grounds on a program of soil testing and adding amendments/fertilisers as required. Its not cheap, but I think we all would agree its needed. There has been a definite improvement this year despite the late start.
The lack of a sandpit around the penalty spot has been great.
The ground at the moment can only be described as sh!t (not embarrassing like it was last year), but it is the best most people can remember it being at this time of the season (same with the top pitch). If you look, you can actually see new grass shooting already, so its looking good for the future.
The annoying thing was, last weekend there were some very wet patches when my O35's played on it. By Monday it was still quiet damp in areas, come Friday it was like concrete. With mid week games getting water on was difficult, and early in the week it wasn't needed.
Plenty of water this week, so the games on Sunday should be fine.
The plan is to top dress both pitches in December and keep up the process of improving the soils/fertilising own a monthly basis. It all comes down to $$$$, but we are also hopeful that the top pitch is finally of a standard that we can spread the load by moving games up there. The new spectator hill on the top ground gets cleared in the first week of August so hopefully all good fro the preseason.
But to answer your question on Council. They mow the pitch and spread our lime/dolomite/gypsum/fertiliser along with weed spraying and aeration, but otherwise its all paid for by the club. The cost is pretty big, but I'm sure everyone is sick of playing on our dirt pitch. People have asked why we don't go on the Rye Grass program, the answer to that is, we can until we get automated irrigation. Thats not coming until 2020, until then we drag sprinklers around.

In respect Macca I think the reason why people don't find the comments racist is because they were made to a White Anglo. In your opinion Macca had the comments been made to a Asian would you still not find the comments racist?
FYI rolo, the comments that I'm referring to weren't made to the burly English man on the hill, they were made to our First grade Coach and Assistant Coach.
Your reasoning is laughable and obviously beyond argument. I'm not going to get involved in a public slanging match as that is not the purpose of the forum. If someone did say something of a racist nature yesterday then someone from the club should have approached myself. I am a very approachable person as most people on here know. Rather than publicly slamming a club on here hiding behind a screen. I'm still unsure who you are. If you are the one that was threatening a 16 year old with physical violence at the end of the reserve grade games then this makes all the more sense that your common sense is lacking. BuT that's ok because he wasn't someone from a different country?
I am in no way justifying a racial comment but merely telling you that I could not understand the bloke. Far out. Relax mate. No racial connotations in that at all. As I'm sure everyone else can see from what I have said. And if you're going to quote someone at least get the quote right. "Is he speaking English? I can't understand a word he's saying."
I will reinforce it to my boys regardless of whether it happened or not as we as a club are a highly multicultural club with many Asian and boys of other descent who have at times been subject to racism which we will feel strongly about. If it was that bad put it in a letter an send it to our club and will be taken further I can assure you. We have suspended people in the past who have been involved with racial slurs.

Had I of been made aware of the comments at the ground then I would have happily brought it to your attention. I also like to think of myself as approachable an reasonable and will happily introduced myself to you next time our paths cross so we can talk about this further.
I still feel that there are racial undertones in the comment as a joke was made about how someone talks due to where they were born. We both disagree about that, I'm not going to get into the semantics of it any longer you think it's fine what was said I don't, consider it done, I'll move on.
As to if I was the one who threatened a 16 year old after reserve grade no that was not me, however thanks for bringing that to my attention I will be sure to find out who it was. That's something that I will not condone and the person responsible will be dealt with.
All in all it was still an enjoyable day, good luck to your first grade on the run into the semis.

My short on numbers comment was a joke. I wouldn't have used the excuse if we lost and nor would I use it if we won. You need to turn your sarcasm radar to 'on'.
Mate get off your ****ing high horse. Of course I punished it into the bush. Everyone does it. Clearly never played at Stocko with the salt bushes. And to your comment about having a 'shot' at the bloke who fetched it? He called me a ****ing **** and a ****wit before I'd said a word. I then reminded him that the ball was about 18 yards in the scrub and I was happy to fetch it after the game. Maybe you could move your field to a more "clearance friendly" playing zone? Somewhere I don't have to consider your bleeding heart when we kick it out? Maybe also do some shooting practice as some of your boys had some mighty fine shots that cleared that 18foot high fence you have at the back.
My comments regarding being "humble" has been in response to your one eyed views throughout the year. I hope you don't speak for the whole of the Suburbs boys when you bang on about how you've been the "better" side in every single loss you've had throughout the year.
P.s. Bon you need to slip a ring on that girl of yours if you haven't already. You have my old girls blessing!

I think it could be racist in that scenario, but not necessarily. For me its more about context than just what race the person is. I'm sure most people would have at some point heard a Scottish or Irish person who is perfectly fluent in English yet had no idea what they were saying. In that situation, taking the piss out of them and asking if they are speaking the same language is perfectly fine to me.
If you have some Asian guy who is clearly tripping over himself trying to string a sentence together in English and obviously does not have much of a grasp on the language, and you start making fun of their English for that, that's poor taste for me. But not racist (necessarily). Again this is just my opinion.

Well we are all hillbillys and rednecks out this way, or so we are told. And everyone knows a rednecks stance on "faggots". Point is every club has some people who push the limits when it comes to banter, even if some are to high and mighty to admit it. Context and manner of delivery is the main issue with it, out on the field, with adrenaline pumping some things may get said, that maybe shouldn't but there no hiding that it does happen. I'd be pretty surprise if a single player in the whole comp away from the field was really a racist. 99% of us happy to forget it all once we are off the park. And premy I would think if major offence was taken with the comments you are referring to then they should be raised with you duty officer then and there so perpetrators can be dealt with immediately.

Geez I miss the banter in this league. Unfortunately, as much as you guys want it to happen, the might Bay will stay another year in ZPL. But to have that one more chance to play against Rolo while he's hitting max revs, would've been outstanding. I wish all of you the best for the rest of the season lads.

I find it hard not to agree with Wilso. I didn't catch the first 10 mins or so. Caught the second Stockton goal, great finish. GS looked good in patches but you don't win games by looking good.
You talk about the soft goals suburbs let in and the chances they missed but as I recall their first goal came from a deflection in their own half that was ran onto by the only guy paying attention. Seemed like everyone else just stopped. Made him look like Usain bolt. And the second goal was hardly a goal worth writing home about. Just a scrappy dogs breakfast at the end of the game that ended up in the net. So in the end suburbs were probably lucky to get any goals.
Do we have another Wallsend fall from grace on our hands?

I quiet often say that I'm probably bias in how I view a match. Take my match reviews with a huge grain of salt, forgive me for thinking that this is a place to discuss about matches in ZL1.
I generally think that I call it the way I see so if that makes me one eyed then so be it. I've mainly stuck to first grade games in my reviews and in my humble one eyed opinion of the 3 losses I've seen our first grade have had this year I feel only Morisset were the better side on the day. Again take this with a huge grain of salt, maybe you could enjoy it with a beer on the hill come finals time.

Oh is that a dig? Good one. See you can be kind of funny when you stop talking out your ass.
Your first grade look top notch. Know a few of the boys who returned this year and will be difficult to beat come finals time. Just don't forget there are other quality teams in the league. Not just yours.
Your reserve grade will give the comp a good shake. Especially playing on a decent field. You can only score "shit" goals, as referenced by your team, at Gardo like we did on the weekend. Very hard to score gorgeous/beautiful goals. We all know they count more. Also don't forget to switch on before the 75th minute. And heaven forbid if you are in front please don't waste time. If I'm on the hill drinking piss that bush of yours is an awfully long walk to fetch one of Bons clearances/shots

Wallsend fall from grace... Our target this year was to be mid table and not to be relegated in our first year in ZL1, to have 2 grades fighting for finals and 1 securing finals football we are happy with where we are at.
Yeah we have been on the wrong end of a few scorelines of late which is due to injuries, work and everything else but this happens with all teams so not going to use them as excuses. For sure there are games we thought we should have won but were outplayed on the day and that's how football goes.
Its good to see the tables as close as they are, bring on the final 3 rounds.

Remaining two games at home against Wallsend and Morri. I'd pick them to win both of those.
There's 3 fighting for the top spot and two fighting for that final playoff spot.

You boys will have a keen eye on this weekends fixture at King Park. Wallsend have Terrace and Cooks Hill and you boys with Westlakes and Charlestown.
It's definitely going to be an interesting few weeks, as we all know there is no easy games in this comp.

Card accumulation usually hits teams around this time. 4 yellows is hard to work with. Best not to get your 4th in the final round but!

Heard there was a 90+6 min equaliser with the last kick of the game. Credit to Barnsley for not switching off. Could be a very important point gained. Was a crucial 2 points dropped by us.

From the very quick look I had if Wallsend win vs Cooks Hill this weekend they’ll make the 4 and play Barnsley (pending Barnsley beat Bero) in one semi and Garden Suburb will take on Raymond Terrace in the other semi.
However if Wallsend draw or lose and Stockton would need to beat Charlestown to take their place in the 4.
You would think Stockton will take care of Charlestown so there’s a bit of pressure on Wallsend to get the job done themselves.
The top 4 in the other 2 grades look already confirmed.
That's all spot on Giges, this weekend should be a ripper. It's a shame all the games aren't on at the same time, that would make things a lot more exciting.

We also have our Old Boys day at Suburb hence the later Kick Off which will allow some of our former players to make it after their All Age and 035's semis.
First Grade kick off at 4:30pm if any of you are keen to come watch and enjoy an ale or 2 after your own game.

It shouldn't go unsaid that to have all teams in the Finals (and 4th in Club Championship) is such a great effort from a promoted team. Wallsend - you may have a pitch that should never be played on, but well done on your efforts on that shitty pitch this year.

I for one am shocked that someone from Morisset doesn't like the idea :rof::oops:
It's genuinely worth considering, I reckon. Adding to what Jardel has said.. what about those clubs that have years when their first grade absolutely blitz a comp but their other grade(s) are cellar dwellers? From memory I can think of both Morisset and Raymond Terrace having years like this. Having entire clubs contributions is a good thought. And as we can see from this years Club Championship in this comp, the first grade ladder varies very little from the Club Championship ladder. It's still heavily based on First Grade, which is the goal.
Using this years First Grade vs Club Champ Ladder, from what I can see the main differences are: Morisset and Charlestown swap 9th and 10th positions, Cooks Hill move from 8th to 5th because of their great Reserve Grade results. The rest are pretty much the same.

Feel for Charlie's Third Grade side who over the past few years have made the finals and been the clubs best performed side who now with relegation I imagine are the blokes on the chopping block!!!! Pretty raw deal. Tough on a club having to jettison an entire team after years together.

Ha ha ha....the only issue I see is you could stack lower grade teams to get points at the end of the season... As an example of this was the rule a team 6 weeks out that can't make semis could stack ressies in the hope of getting points.... That wouldn't be ideal either

Think you will find Morisset won the club champs 2 years ago... Firsts won the premiership and ressies were top 4. Thirds finished 7th.... All contributed...
We have always used 3rds as a feeder for the juniors coming into senior football... Others use it as the old boys team... Changing the rules may mean teams treat lower grades very different and may impact on juniors coming through....

The table never lies.
Unfortunately we lost our leading scorer on the eve of the season and in 4th division football it's pretty much a death sentence. It's not like you can go out and buy a replacement.
11 goals in 18 games without him. He scored more than that last year himself.
We struggled with numbers. I know it's the same for every club, but we had 17 unavailable on Saturday, and after a great performance against cookers where we conceded a late equaliser, we then lost 5 of that starting XI. The previous 6-7 weeks was the only time we had consistent numbers and our results dramatically improved (heck, we even won a game!), but we never had one week where we named an unchanged lineup.
The commitment wasn't there from enough blokes this year, and unfortunately it is those committed blokes who pay the penalty by suffering the heartache of relegation. I'm sure mori & suburbs know the story all too well, but it's still a bitter pill to swallow after missing the top 4 by 2 points last season.

But if Rolo is bribing players again then it all makes cents. That dirty ba$tard! He saved a penalty before that though? Still must be shite if they lost 7-0

Every keeper thinks theyre an outfield player from another life dont they? Im sure most clubs would attest to that.
Why do I always get dragged in!
The payments may have been from the goalscorer himself as there has been a running wager all year that he wouldn't score with another Shark.
Charlestown GK/striker would have scored 5 on Saturday if his own team mates stopped blocking all his shots!

Might be wrong but I See their first grade killing it and their reserve grade often mid to low table. Suggests maybe a lack of depth already so I'd imagine gaining another 15 players or so who were competitive might be a struggle.

Their reserve grade side finished mid table, but it seemed to only be from injuries etc towards the end of the year.
They were still a very strong side.
No depth though, so will have to convince their All Age side to convert to a 3rd grade if they really want to push up in ZL1
