Would be interested to see how many people Stan has signed up that are interested in Rugby.
That sport seems absolutely dead in the water.
I fear if we don’t get this right, so will the a league.
Imo, there needs to be a FTA element in any deal. Just need to reach a broad audience. I’m not sure the winter comp competing with NRL and AFL for money/membership has paid off, but it’s hard to say with covid.

interesting article about the sheer bastardry of V'Landys coming out yet again
Tabcorp have blacked out Super Rugby in pubs and clubs
V'Landys is on the board of Tabcorp and the NRL, so has used his influence in one sphere to help another
clear conflict of interest and is exactly the sort of bastardry football, and any other sport, is up against
V'Landys is the guy who defended strapping electrodes to horses genitals and argued that people should be put at risk from Covid so that the NRL could continue it's agenda of rape and crime so at least we know the sort of **** we're dealing with here
so this disgusting sleaze tried to sue the ABC for defamation for exposing the horse torture and general crimes going on as part of the racing industry
not surprisingly he lost

Three Journos ran with it initially claiming to be aware of actual facts. L Zelic, Rushton and Garb. The remaining so called journos then ran with it.
Garb and co clearly went with the" if only others knew what we know ".

10 is paramount, both owned by ViacomCBS. Have been for a few years now since the Murdoch's torpedoed 10 on their way to trying to grab a FTA broadcaster only for CBS to turn their multi year output deal into a debit and grabbing control of 10 from under the Murdoch's nose. Paramount+ is just a rebrand of 10 all access in Australia and CBS all access in the states.
The interesting news is the 2.5% stake Viacom has taken in the APL as part of the deal, they now have skin in the game to promote it as they are shareholders. The other is that the APL is in charge of all outside broadcast, on screen talent and production so that $200m is going to have to fund that production each year as well, but it means they can sell a final finished product internationally, so the APL is in control of their own destiny, from the pitch to the living room the buck stops with them.

I’d like to think they made them longer based on feedback.
Early days for them, so willing to give them some slack for a few more weeks but the:
App needs some refining if they want it to be easily navigated.
Pause and rewind functions
Start from Beginning function.
In general improve the reliability of the stream.

The other night was that one eyed it was pitiful. Starting with Tara and "Brosquie", then "Bimby" and his look alike contest. The sideline twit made his loyalties clear last week when he ranted about why the WSW keeper nearly saved Beka's penalty, completely ignoring the personal story right in front of his eyes. Raving on about superiority when we have won a couple of times there in the last 18 months.
"Redders", "Rhino", "Wilko", "Ninko", Alfie" all got their mentions via nickname familiarity. It was lucky that "Tino" stepped up and they had no choice but to interview him - mind you not before hearing from several SFC players first.

I signed up for Optus TV/phone/internet in March 2017, and immediately cut it off after it was terrible
they didn't get around to cutting off my access from the Optus Sport app, so since then I'd been getting Premier League for free (and Champions League until they lost that)
up until this weekend that is, when they've cut me off for some reason (probably to do with not paying)

My Optus service has been perfect, no complaints.
Optus Sport was free to all customers (current and legacy) until the EPL started this season. New subs are $24.99 a month and active subs are now $6.99 a month which is fine by me. Some web idiots complaining you shouldn't pay because they don't do 4k, but FMD you get all EPL and La Liga games for starters....though I no interest in J League, Optus Fitness or Women's Premier League tbh.
The tactic will be to sub services during the season and then cancelled or pause - I have done that with Stan until the Euro games ramp up again.

I agree. Optus and Kayo as a service both have great pros and the cons I can generally work-around and aren't show-stoppers like those experienced in Paramount (if you haven't used it, Boz, I suggest trying it out for a month first).
From the whole Optus charge restructure I've ended up paying for 12 months and I got a cheaper mobile plan which has put me ahead.
It's a personal choice and what you do and don't use...and what you can afford.

So two men's games on FTA this year, all women's available free via 10play. Men's games on 10bold.

It's a great thing that we get to see 2 games of the superior product instead of being forced to watch any version of the inferior product to follow someone's false god of diversity of outcome
The women's game is not that popular amongst the punters as the quality is not good enough

And what about being able to pause a live game? Or watch from the start if you miss kick off?
Two of the biggest issues for me in the whole league because watching the games is so difficult
Even when I get a chance to watch a replay (after waiting til the next day ffs) the picture quality is terrible
I was pretty positive about it moving to 10/paramount but it's completely killing the experience for me

10 is in HD, Bold isn't. That is a problem.
Sort of agree with the Member but in a more passive way. The ladies A-League just isn't that popular - crowd and TV viewing figures prove this and they can't get advertisers so it has been moved to streaming. It has its place and can improve but some of the publicity does gild the lily a bit.

True - it is actually better to stream the live channels like Bold from 10Play anyway. Slightly better pic quality.
FTA has never got HD right.

Paramount in the US and other areas has the ability. It's more that they dont care enough to fix the problems. Won't be surprised if they try and back out of the contract
Just when you thought Paramount couldn't f%^k things up any worse it is now like watching a old episode of Monkey Magic with the audio delay.

I think the way people consume media has changed an awful lot since the a league started.
Only option to watch was go live, or Foxtel subscription.
If you had Fox you could basically just flip on the tv and have the shows and games. The commentary and shows were entertaining (at least compared to the monotonous garbage served up now). There was a main sports channel and it was loaded with football over the season.
Now, many people don’t even have aerial tv. People have to actively go out of their way to consume the product. Most households have multiple subscriptions to services. I’d hazard a guess and say most have Netflix. Stan, Binge, Amazon. Into sport? Kayo has the best options. Into football? You’d probably consider Optus sport for the EPL, Euros, WC.
It’s a catch 22. If you were to make a play at Kayo/Fox to take us over, they’d offer unders. But the incidental exposure and other things Kayo offer would allow a bit more reach. Or you’ve got an option like 10/paramount who offered the most, but most people don’t really want a paramount subscription. Matilda’s probably responsible for most of their traffic over the last 12 months.
Not sure what the move is.
The sustainability of clubs at the moment relies on broadcast deals. We need to shift that reliance imo.
Not saying it’s the way forward but a lot of NRL clubs have associations with Leagues Clubs. Panthers are a brand and successful. Wests and the Knights. Etc. It’s additional revenue that reduces the reliance on mummy and daddy at APL saying here’s your pocket money for the year.
Other ventures from clubs could be the way forward in the medium term.
WSW and their facility for example. Could be running comps on their artificial turf 5-a sides or hiring out to community for use. Not sure how the break even would be for artificial pitches and infrastructure, but it could be a steady revenue. Community is Crying out for fields for games to be played on. AL clubs could take advantage of this.
Id love to know how Paramount came up with the subscription figure that subsequently enabled them to reduce the monies paid to the APL citing a lack of subscriptions.
Was the club membership model + Paramount subscription used as the soul metric ?.
Take me for example my Paramount subscription has never been a add on box tick to my Jets membership, I subscribed independently. My primary motive for a Paramount subscription was the A League but here is the kicker. Has it been included in the KPI Paramount have used to justify a reduction in there payment for the broadcast rights ???
I know of at least 3 other household who's subscription is independent of there A League club membership but the primary reason.
The potential for Paramount to manipulate and exclude theses subscriptions figures in this way has always bothered me, especially when they are so critical to what Paramount has to pony up for financially
Would be a great question for the new bloke or our seldom seen seldom heard from EC.

A lack of subscriptions from A-League fans for Paramount+ is the reason why grand finals for the next three years will be played in Sydney, it has been reported.
Last season, a five-year, $200million broadcast deal was signed with Network 10 and Paramount+ - but a key clause in the contract revealed a certain number of subscriptions for A-League coverage on Paramount+ was integral.
Once those targets were not met, the flow-on effect saw less money passed onto the A-League and its clubs - leaving Australian Professional Leagues CEO Danny Townsend to chase a deal worth at least $10million with Destination NSW, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
When Townsend announced the deal on Monday, many football fans, players and clubs were blindsided.
The backlash has been severe, with supporters from Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory planning to walk out of this weekend's derby at AAMI Park in protest.
A lack of subscriptions from A-League fans for Paramount+ is the reported reason why grand finals for the next three years will be played in Sydney - it left APL boss Danny Townsend scrambling for a new deal, which he struck with Destination NSW

Its been pretty widely reported that the APL isnt receiving the full amount from Paramount/10 due to the metrics built into the broadcast deal.
Thats the fault of whoever negotiated the deal in the first place - Im assuming that was Danny Townsend.
Pretty sure there was an article on codesports that went into some detail on it and the other wastages at the APL.
I don't think an article from the Daily Mail is worth putting any stock in.
Nonetheless the revenues from the broadcast deals has always been divided up amongst the club for there salary cap hence there has always been a salary cap floor ( min spend) so club owners could not pocket any of it.
As Furns has explained this is common knowledge that KPI's were not met ie subscription numbers and as a result the amount Paramount cough up is substantially less. This prompted my question just how did Paramount come to the subscription figure when many would not have attached there Paramount subscription to there membership like myself and several others i know.
It was another one of DT's cluster %^&8 decisions and certainly no secret since the prostituting of the GF as a revenue raising decision to make up the shortfall from Paramount. I don't think there has been one single season where Paramount have been made to pay up the initial reported amount citing unmet targets.
There has never been any financial benefit for them to improve the quality of product they provide as the increase in subscriptions probably wouldn't be greater than the amount they get to wriggle out of paying the APL to broadcast the game.

To further muddy the waters, it was reported (not fact) that Silverlake activated a clause in the contract, that turns their stake in the A league, into a debt which APL must now pay. So the Para money may be the same but paying down the debt has reduced the payment to clubs

Hi chaps
I thought this was as good a thread as any to post this...
I'm finally looking at getting a Paramount subscription after the disaster of trying to watch the Socceroos the other night.
Can someone tell me here or just PM me details about what you get and for how much? I just want to watch A-League and Socceroo games.
Not interested in any sub-extensions for movies etc...unless it's the other way around and you need an extension to watch football?
Also, a mate tells me there's a way to make them sh!t the bed if you go to unsubscribe. Then they offer you a discounted deal.
Is that true?
Cheers.
