Hexham Tarro Hellas Azzurri v Point Break Thistles should be an absolute cracker this weekend.
Last game was very spicy with some good football played. Azzurri only kept 1 clean sheet all season so a fully expect there to be a few goals, in all grades too
Will the Sunday Specialists come away with the win or will Hellas Azzurri bounce back from the weekend?
Went down to watch Swansea play Azzurri on Saturday to scope out the competition. Firstly, that pitch over at Tarro is a really nice surface. Secondly, and the REAL reason I went, I got a chance to watch the "bad boy of the ZPL" Will McMasters in action again. What a hand full he was for the Azzurri defence. He even chipped in with a risky studs up challenge or two and earned himself a card before going off with an injury and using the entire bag of ice on a section of his leg. What a character. Besides that, Swansea were really good. Solid in defence and dangerous up top. Hamilton... sorry I meant Hexham... actually I mean Tarro Azzurri will feel a bit hard done by as the referee was having a shocker but overall they were outclassed. Can anyone from Swansea explain what happened with their coach on the sideline? Second half he stands up and goes off at one of the guys in the Azzurri crowd for some reason. Seemed really out of the blue, do they have history?
Sunday funday with my boys the thistles taking on the kotara bears. For everyone saying Kotara are no good, I just didn't see it yesterday. They showed a lot of heart and had some quality going forward especially. If they don't get relegated, with a pre-season under a more stable coach, they may be knocking around the middle of the table. For us, it's another three points and we move on to next week against Tarro Azzurri - the question is: where will be be playing at? and will they call it off?
With the newest strain of the imported Chinese delicacy, I'd like to wish everyone safe travels and good health. I'll leave you all with a question: are Bero and Azzurri now local rivals and if so, which is the bigger club?

100% Bero are a bigger/better club than the Hamilton/Carrington/Hexham/Tarro mickey mouse club Azzuri.

Decent write up there Johnny Utah, any fresh injury or suspension concerns for the weekend?
Might pop down depending on location/weather/WuFlu restrictions

I know there have been calls to 'Fix Smith Park', but what is actually wrong with it? I believe the Azzurri junior teams and O35s still play there, so I assume it's playable... maybe just not up to ZPL standard?

Something to do with the sheds not being up to standard and no fence around the ground
Something to do with the sheds not being up to standard and no fence around the ground
This is somewhat correct.
Also with one light pole that has two lights only, it is not suitable for training either.

“Up to ZPL standard” is an interesting concept. Nesbitt = no fence. Connolly’s sheds hardly an improvement on Smith Parks and lighting not the greatest for washouts, however ticks the fence box. NF preference is also for fields to be “stand alone” in ZPL. Swansea and Warner’s Bay, don’t meet that particular criteria, although undeniably make up for it by being otherwise sensational facilities. Won’t lie completely unsure about Cardiff’s new field. I’d personally hardly call Pasadena a premier facility (apologies Bero) and would throw Hexham in the same category there. Mayfield, Dudley and Cooks Hill are the only fields that I can see that would tick each and every requirement for a ZPL facility.

Evans is a bit of a shithole ground currently, no grass and very bumpy.
The Juniors had drainage put in the October before Covid struck and didn't do anything with it grass died away in the heatwave conditions the other summer.
Last summer which wasn't so hot, the grounds looked good even with no work on them, but now the summer grass has died off there is nothing left but dirt, not much we could have done as we didnt get the ground until march.
CCFC will looking at the grass coverage in the offseason, cant do much about at the moment.
The draw hasn't helped with the first 5 out of 6 games at home either.

If you are dumb enough to think the referees had no say and the game was somehow called off without their approval then you have rocks in your head.
Perhaps they made a decision that the pitch was deteriorating and that it would not have held up during 1sts, hence making a logical, common sense decision.
Considering the call to play is made in the morning, could it be possible that the pitch conditions got worse throughout the day?
Seriously, get your covid vaccine. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Just heads up, be careful with sprinkler usage in summer. A local bus driver loves to dob in clubs on Myall Road for watering pitches after 10am (even if the sprinklers weren't on).

From 4th to 1st due to some conspiring antics - and fair enough. Bit of a missed opportunity though I reckon - young Will alone would have put 5 or 6 past a hapless Kotara. Bumped the GD a bit more…

Where did these stats come from? going out on a limb to say they're incorrect..... Cooks Hill have played way more games in ZPL, they won the GF like 5 times in 6 years?
I'd also love to see a column with the $$$ spent on each 1st grade squad, in particular the $uns, I've added my own data (see above) since we're just plucking numbers our of thin air.

Onto the next big issue!
Going off the NF website it looks like Will McMaster has offered some of those off the pitch "favours" and Swansea have been awarded the win vs Kotara.
Now, if Swansea win the minor premiership this season do we put a * next to it having not played all their games and being gifted points? Keen to hear everyone's thoughts on this one!

It will be he said she said stuff.
Swansea - We we’re ready to play, nothing wrong with the pitch.
Kotara - We we’re ready to play, pitch was dangerous.
Ultimately the referee should have made the decision and if they said the game was safe to play and Kotara didn’t play then 3 points Swansea. If the referee deemed the unsafe then rearrange fixture and move on. Need to see the referee report before handing out *

Obviously not called by referees or the points would not have been awarded unless Kotara refused to play.Original post said game was called off during reggies so not refs or reggies would have been abandoned.

Kinda frustrating considering juniors/all age/35s/womens are off this weekend with school holidays and another field couldn't be found to play on.
They probably knew they were gonna be called off at Hexham mid week so you'd at least hope they made an attempt to move grounds.

Probably a question for somebody in the know. From the outside though I don’t feel it’s odd a pitch built on a swamp is washed out when games in town are good to go after the rain we’ve copped this week.

They probably knew they were gonna be called off at Hexham mid week so you'd at least hope they made an attempt to move grounds.
Frustrating not to play no doubt. But not sure any other club in Newcastle is forced to look for an alternate ground to their home ground when there is wet weather about,

Dare say their third home ground Tarro would have been available if they WANTED to play.
Plus the other option of watching Cookers v Cardiff is not appealing

Then if it was only the wet stopping the game then I could be played Tues or Wed it will be dry then or will the injuries etc affect that idea.
Is Smith park any closer to getting work cause you can’t have a club in ZPL with no home ground and the alternate ground washes apparently if you think about rain. The actual pitch at Smith park looks decent

No surprise there I suppose.
Had dinner with the wife at hexham bowling club tonight do yourself a favour and check it out highly recommend the chinese feed there, but anywho much to the wifes digust I just had to go and have a look at the pitch was kind of expecting it to be dry but fortunately to hamilton's credit the pitch was still sopping wet zero chance of 3 games being played there today and probably for another few days. Either a lot of rain happened there or genuinely there is a big issue with the way that pitch handles water or holds water im no expert but id say being so close to the hunter river plays a big role in this.

Strange week for the ZPL -
Covid is the only thing that has stopped Will “The Bad Boy” McMaster from scoring this season.
Azzuri are allowed to postpone a game due to water and safety reasons yet Kotara are punished for the same. Maybe the punishment is equivalent to the amount of water…..
Cooks Hill end Cardiff’s title defence with a 4-4 goal festival.
Newcastle Suns thump Warner’s Bay and are top of the table.
Kotara v Mayfield play out an ordinary 1-1 draw.
Fingers crossed although I doubt it, for a full round of fixtures this weekend.
God bless the ZPL.

Curious here brother..... If you have "4 first graders" out what are the remaining 7 doing?? My guess that most of them will be pushed back into res grade! Do what any normal club would do and have some faith in your squad by promoting some ressies guys.

What a disgrace this competition is.
So Azzurri can call off an entire day, Cardiff complain, no penalty.
Kotara try do the right thing and play, get 2 grades played, but then decide their brand new $120k government funded pitch can't handle another game (it's only been open less than 2 months), so they consult refs to call it off, do so. At least it's only one replay instead of all 3 grades.
Penalised by a FORFEIT.
Now Swansea have 4 out of 1sts, but they're allowed to postpone 1sts but play lower grades, but yet have 6 out of Res & 3rds but are still playing lower grades? They forfeited their 3rd grade pre-covid due to lack of numbers. Why is this any different.
Suns play yesterday, pitch is now completely ruined, but precedent is set that once you kick off 3rds, you just play regardless.
Any other double standards I'm missing?
Name one club who hasn't had to play multiple reserve graders in 3rds, or call on all age/o35s to fill 3rds at some point. Tough luck. Play on.

I think in squad competitions, the lowest grade should be the one forfeited if numbers are a problem.
And a washout should be replayed if match officials say the ground is not suitable. If clubs call the ground out, the opposition should be entitled to ask for a independent review and/or propose an alternative venue depending upon the circumstances and when a decision was made.
Fine balance between trying to get games played and protecting fields.
COVID rules are in place to protect players and clubs from playing sick players who would rather play than to stay home and isolate etc. I guess they are there to take advantage of, but hopefully not the case for the majority.

Rules are rules, NF need to advise swansea or anyone else that they need to play their highest grades and forfeit 3rds. Every club goes through a stage when straggling for players on weekends, it’s Swansea’s miss fortune that they have staff and players on the coast and not the rest of the comps problem so, grow some balls NF and make them play 1st and Ressies.
Simple, everyone will be happy.

Or if they aren’t returning this year from the start of round 2 of the comp every team gets 3 points

The ZPL Bad Boy was missing in action today with poor decisions and missing multiple 1 on 1 opportunities. When finally axed by the fill in coach a tantrum ensued with bottles thrown and blaming everyone but himself. His golfing ability has definitely carried over to his football ability.
In other news Laviesta’s amazing winning streak has finally been broken with Suns giving him his first loss in 1st grade. Suns with a goal in the 85th minute to win it in a scrappy match. Could of been more goals if it wasn’t for the heroics of reserve grade keeper Patrick ‘Lettuce Leaves’ Heffernan. His average of conceding 4 goals a match has finally improved and he also went a game without assisting the opposite striker.
Not a bad result considering how many players Swansea had out.

Terrible result for Azzurri.
Are cracks starting to appear in Azzurri? The guys have built an incredible club and have had enormous success in the lower zone leagues. But it's incredibly difficult to build and maintain a ZPL club. They are reliant on pinching players which will only get you so far.
I guess they also need to find a permanent home. Surely there is somewhere better then Hexham park? But good luck to them

As someone that was there I’m not sure they stacked it. Dudley gave them 4 goals with a penalty, 2 defending errors and a goal keeper being beaten near stick. Warners Bay keeper was best on ground and won them the 3 points with some excellent saves. cause it could of been 7-4. Their first grade didn’t look to different than the first time. They just got torn to shreds early and kind of gave up

Stacking gate is dominating the ZPL this weekend . Did they or didn’t they? Not sure anyone cares.
Speaking of no one caring more drivel about the bay boy of Swansea.
Speaking of Swansea finally getting a first grade squad on the pitch after suffering a shortage of players across the club from O’35 all three grade, All age team and an U18.
Mayfield keep churning out results, Dudley thump Warner’s Bay and Cooks Hill finally work out how to defend.
Stay safe out there and god bless the ZPL.

As an outsider looking in I see their main problem is that they are scoring less goals than their opponent on any given day when playing away from home. Not sure if their coaching staff concur but I'm sure it's something they'll look at.

Rules are 3 multi on the sheet at any one time(who can play any grade) and 4 borrowed players in addition to this(only can play lowest grade in ZPL, 3rds).
Cant play reserve grade(unless they have been given an exemption by Russ) for Covid, which if this is the case it should have been communicated to all the clubs.

No write up last week, I wasn’t at the game however from all reports the ZPL bad boy is a dud and was nowhere to be seen.
However tonight the Swans yet again have Beaver Fever with Nathan ‘The Beresfield Bully’ Bevan scoring 2 goals with his head. He is in piping hot form for Swansea just as the crystal pistol is for Beresfield.
Communication was lacking with Beresfield as their defence kept on screaming to man mark ‘The Beresfield Bully’ on set pieces but they were all too busy looking for their next Centrelink payments.
The 3rd was an unfortunate own goal, Beresfield decided to shoot at their own goal instead of their usual of shooting up.
The ZPL bad boy also finally broke his goal scoring drought by scoring one below average goal. 1 goal for every 8 dives and 10 tantrums seems to be the going rate.

Tight scorelines. Accurate reflection of the games?
Third grade Dudley scored from a keeper kick with the striker running on and scoring one on one with the keeper. Suns after that, particular second half were all over Dudley. Two late pens to Suns, one saved and one scored.
Ressies was another tight game. First half was pretty even until I came off after an absolutely disgusting tackle that resulted in a 5cm gash down to my shin bone on one leg and severely swollen knee on the other leg. Two footed, above the ground way after the ball was gone and somehow was only a yellow.
Dudley won a penalty early in the second half and then Suns got two deserving goals to take the points and all but secure second spot.
Didn’t see much of first grade because I was at the hospital. But from all accounts it was a pretty tight game. Suns scored first and Dudley got one back almost straight away from the penalty spot.

Went down to Hexham Arena on saturday for their ladies day. A few nice Fillies & Mares getting around, a few went into the blackbook. Football was alright too.
Azzurri got a couple of goals after about 25 minutes and Kotara never really threatened too much.
Reserve Grade was bonkers. Azzurri up early, then started playing like they thought the game was wrapped up and let Kotara dominate. 1-1 at HT, Kotara score 10 seconds into 2nd half, Azzurri get 2 in about 5 minutes to go 3-2 up. Kotara then score 2 in about 10 minutes to go 4-3 up before Azzurri equalise with a free kick with about 10 or so minutes left. Battle for the wooden spoon definitely still alive.

Watched the Dudley/Suns game. Three good games of football.
I did notice though one of the Suns guys yell out to the Dudley bench about hiding their match balls while they were up 1-0. Any news on this?

YES this was true, someone from the bench went to retrieve the ball put it under this jumper like he was shoplifting a roast chicken, he looked so natural doing it, their coming first and thats their tactics.
They were also hiding the balls throughout Ressie and First grade. 🤣🤣🤣 pathetic. The biggest surprise was that complete wanker from Dudley reserve grade didn’t get sent off for his challenge on the Suns player is beyond me, one of the worst talks I’ve seen.
Times must be tough at dudley paying those players they couldn’t afford more that 1 match all at times.
Plus, the best joke of the day, the hills closed guys due to COVID 🤣🤣🤣🤣, reopens when all the locals are let out for the afternoon exercise break. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

They block the hill off cause that’s where all the locals stand every week and it’s named after a past team mate and in past years when Suns supporters have been there it’s been a little ‘heated’. I’d say clever to keep the supporters apart.
The ref spoke to his linesman and both came up with yellow card as the punishment. I agree it should of been a red. Least it was a tackle which is part of soccer and is part of the game unlike the king hit from a Suns player in round 1 or you forgot about that already. So when it comes to this rivalry both teams have had some less than ideal incidents that I’m sure they both aren’t proud of.
I would focus on the 2 games I saw were great games and Suns deserving the win in reserves. Some clubs would die for these reserve teams as their first grade squad. Dudley deserved a the win in first. Suns keeper was best on ground. If they all meet during the finals will be some excellent games

I missed last weekends game (and most of this season sadly). But the first game you were referring to, was that the one that saw Dudley receive 3 red cards in the third-grade game? (4 in total for the day).
That hill is behind the opposition bench and right next to where opposition supporters are. You want to intimidate teams, you best be ready for reciprocation. Plain stupid in my view.

Sorry but there was nothing football about that tackle
Very late, intent, high, two feet and studs (even had some Dudley players shaking their heads and saying “that was f$&ked”)
For the record that suns player from the first round rightly hasn’t been allowed to play by the club since

Way to
Heading rumours already that if this goes too long, community football will be binned but premier competitions (NPL, WPL, NewFM) will play the rest of their seasons.
Let’s just hope everyone does the right thing and this lockdown finishes ASAP.

Given their chance 100% they will bin it
Think of the money it would save on paying grand final winners, refs etc after we all paid full price for comp fees

they might save money on GF payout but not on ref fees, if they don't ref they don't get paid, money your club charges you for rego goes straight into club coffers...

Communication from the federation yesterday explaining the season going forward..
This weekends bye is now being rescheduled with last rounds fixtures. Unlikely they will go ahead though with lockdown extension immanent, which means those games will result in 0-0.
The final series has been pushed back a week with the grand final weekend now 19th September.
From my understanding, if no further regular season games are played, the top 4 will remain as is in each grade.
Semi finals may end up being just one leg if lockdowns continue and if it comes to it, the grand final could just be first v second.
Everything is still up in the air, but it looks like every chance will be given for the season to continue.

Will be disappointing to not having a crack at Mayfield in the last game to play for the minor. We’ve had a solid year at the Suns. Sadly it’s not looking promising at the moment. Wouldn’t be many occasions where a club will win club championship without winning a minor in any grade.
Fingers crossed we can get some finals action in!

The seven day statewide lockdown from 5pm today takes next weekend out as well. Did hear if it got extended to take into account next weekend an possibly beyond they were going to call it.

Funny story while working the afternoon shift at the balloon shop.
A bloke wearing a Mayfield polo walked in asking for balloons to spell out minor premiers.
They're obviously confident covid is going to end the regular season.
