Poaching/merry-go-round. Every year the same. Was a good mix of finalist clubs throughout NPL youth this year. Was fantastic to see.
Agree 100%.

Lets also not pretend that the poaching is limited to Valentine.Good to see Rosebuds have worked how how to fill their teams for next year too.
Of course there's lots of poaching end of season, few seem to target an entire team though 😂
As for the Charlestown issue.
My son played there last year...I understand their problems (there are a few they could work on, just like any other club TBF) what I will note as the most significant was the inability/unwillingness to articulate a plan of how they were going to secure a place back in tier 1 football.
What they could offer to "subsidise" the reduced development opportunity (while they were charging the same as when they had tier 1 football to offer...something like having some of their big name first graders do sessions, etc)
This would have gone a long way to have more kids stay. Something Lakes did very well.
Other thought: They seemed to be stuck in a mindset that the best kids should "want" to play for them...that they should be seen as a 'destination club' based only on their history they had had. They need to grow beyond that, and I hope they do, and I hope they have some success.
My son played at Azzurri this year and found the club for the most part pretty good. TD had very little to do with the younger age groups and there was the usual politics you see at most clubs. Some of the team have left to play div 1 (Valo were chasing a lot of the players and at least 3 have ended up there) and one player has secured an NPL1 position in Sydney. They were only 3 wins short of Div 1. Next year will be interesting to see how they go.

There have been a few clubs with this attitude over the years and they have all ended up going same way.Im surprised they didnt end up in Div 1 next year and my lads mates who play there were all very happy with their experience. While no club has a divine right to be in Div 1 I do hope Azzurri are back there sooner rather than later.

Charlestown seem to be the feeder club for Valentine, Valo's U13s teams made up of Charlestown JDL kids for the past three year, and now supplementing these teams with additional Charlestown kids.
I too was surprised they didn't end up in Div 1 but they choked a bit in League B giving Cooks Hill some relief.

Im sure Valo kids were going to Charlie in the past when they were strong. Ebbs & flows for all clubs

Which youth clubs encourage kids to play up age groups if they are good enough and which clubs are more focused on doing whatever it takes to win premierships?

Im positive the new Lord Mayor campaigned on not putting the basketball stadium there and that the fields would remain in use for soccer/cricket/school.Wonder if that will change anything.

Newcastle Basketball doesn't care, they have lodged their development application through to the state government.

Why does Newcastle football back this?
Is there a trade off for them? Development for x amount of other fields?

Correct. Where is he now?
He has realised he doesn't actually have the numbers in council.
The old guard is still running the place.
Good luck getting anything done while some scores are being settled, there's some really petty individuals with their noses out of joint after this last election.
Good times.

Makes sense. The Red cancer still lingers. Not saying that any party has helped Newy in the last 50 yrs. State govt is the worst.
Back to youth news. Heard a few players who had spots have been told they no longer have positions at several clubs due to "over-recruitment" :rof:
Its a bit like real estate, you havent secured the property until you sign a contract. Always keep several irons in the fire peeps.

It's more like jets and mariners released players after clubs offered 16 spots and collected deposits, so clubs scramble the excuses to kick a player out to make way for the jet.

Correct & movements into the city from out of area which causes a chain reaction. Clubs look more to winning than about your kid.
Nature of the beast. Just a heads up for parents who are entering the football environment.

Some, but not all, reputation eventually catches up with you and as other clubs raise their programs they will be wondering why kids avoid them like the plague.
There's one club in one particular age group I would tell everyone to avoid. They don't care and if you look hard enough you can see they churn almost an entire team in that age group every year.

Yes, I try and teach people to have a sense of humour and to not take kids football so ****ing seriously.
Looks like another failed attempt though.
My resolve remains.

See, you’d think this. Doesn’t seem to happen though.
Every year the same clubs get mentioned for axing players, stealing other clubs player, replacing entire teams and dropping kids the moment a better player becomes available. Yet, parents and kids still want to play for these clubs and cry foul when it happens to them.
Not all clubs.
But some definitely have a reputation and some still have the reputation from 10-15+ years ago.

Do the rules allow us to name clubs? I know of one club that just told 2 of their grand final winning side that they no longer have a spot, but it wasn't from Jets the players came in from, they took them from a Div 1 team.
Its a bit like real estate, you havent secured the property until you sign a contract. Always keep several irons in the fire peeps.
And even then, this particular club required deposits for spots paid before season end to secure their spot. Seems it isn't secure at all

Why wouldn?t you be able to name a club? It?s just individuals you can?t name apparently but that?s only when it suits admin.

No point. Most have done it. Some more than others over the time. You just have to remember it isn't against any laws just keep your eyes open.

It's secure for the club not the player. Majority hold their convictions. Some coaches cut more than others.
Its probably worse when Jets have their favourite parents greasing the coaches. That should be best of the best end of. Some good kids missing out but hey, there's no guarantees when you sign up. Just keep enjoying your footy where ever you are.

Saw a headline that FQ will be taking over the Roar's Academy with the aim of entering teams in the local NPL comp
Apparently not very popular according to the post I saw
