If Papas gets suspended this competition has become a joke. If an official can say ?that is what I thought he said, being some distance away (without 100% certainty) and with witnesses confirming it was not said. This should be squashed straight away to allow him to play. I do not support official abuse but this has become ridiculous and ruining the game.

Ha ha what is the delusion? The linesman has reported something that was not said and what he thought he heard from 10-15 meters away. There are witnesses willing to support what was clearly said including Magic supporters from what I have heard. Officials make errors also they are only human. Players should have rights too. He was not sent for swearing but calling an official a name which did not happen by account from people there that witnessed it. If every player was sent for swearing there would be 10-15 players sent off every game. 6 weeks really!

If the Fed keep letting players off with reduced or no suspension at all they may as well rip up the Zero Tolerance campaign, players aren?t doing the right thing because others have got off lightly, stick to the 6 weeks and things will improve

Don?t disagree with that at all, but if players are getting accused of saying something that they apparently didn?t say all because the linesmen ?thought? that?s what he heard not ?what? he heard then there needs to be fair justice.
In a court of law you can?t charge someone because it was ?thought? they had said or did something.
That?s the difference in this situation if the facts are true that have been stated.

As an extension, to avoid misunderstandings, don't swear at others/at all on the pitch? You don't keep your job if you disagree with someone and call them an expletive, how about transferring that to football? Take kids to to senior matches and they hear all the unnecessary language shouted, think it's part of the game and then this transfers down to youth football and things start to fester.

So players do not have rights! From what I heard the linesman on his report said he called him a f***en prick the player and witnesses deny this and as said he said I got f***en kicked. I can understand when you say these out loud the linesman could miss heard/interpreted what was said as he was some distance away. I think some of the comments may have hidden agendas. As I recall a Magic player man handled a referee but got off as commonsense prevailed. 100% agree with Zero tolerance and have full respect for the officials. But I think this is a bit over the top. It has to go both ways

You nailed it in your comment You don't keep your job if you disagree with someone and call them an expletive, That is the issue by all accounts of what has been said the official was not called an expletive. In regard to swearing you will need to lock kids up at home and not turn on the tv or take them to shops, or an NRL games or send them to school or allow them to work. Any truth to the rumour that the Federation said No to Adamstown to sign an emergency goal keeper with their 3 senior keepers out injured. Looks like the U18 keeper will have to play 2 games or the U16 keeper will have to play reserve grade. Could be a tough weekend for the buds

Yeh. It’s tricky.
If the assistant hears something and flags it as dissent/abuse. You have to trust that statement of events. There’s not really any reason to blatantly make something up. Fed should back it IF Assistant is sure of the version of events.
If there’s doubt about what’s said, that’s when it becomes tricky. Regardless, the language and nature of the incident probably warrants dissent and a week off is probably a compromise between extending punishment for details and just leaving it as an on field incident.
What we don’t want is a precedent where any alleged verbal abuse of referees is met with a he said, she said type argument.
We don’t have microphones like ALM or other competitions where we get audio of incidents, so these all come down to referee reports and any neutral witnesses/ or opposition witnesses supporting defendant would probably be acceptable.
It’s hard. If you don’t back a referee, you lose them. But if there’s doubt and assistant THINKS or SOUNDED LIKE, then that’s some vague language and you probably can’t send somebody off because you THINK something happened. You don’t want a referee being abused and you don’t want a player wrongfully suspended.

In my experience. Alot of players tend to blow up and swear after a bad challenge. I will add they swear when decisions don't go their way.
I support the zero tolerance on Referee abuse, but at the same time more needs to be done on player protection for bad challenges. If the punishments were to increase on the challenges, players wouldn't get as frustrated on the pitch Imp.
Sometimes you see a really bad challenge and the player gets a red card and possibly 3 to 4 games. It could also result in an injury to an opposition player. Yet a player may be sent off and given 6 weeks for swearing.
For mine greater consistency on suspensions and balances for offences needs to occur.

From my understanding there was 4 neutral witnesses come forward.
Pappas has been handed a 2 game suspension for offensive language for using the word f**k which is a different offence to match offical abuse which is under the zero tolerance policy. Jaffas have appealed that the linesmen has misheard what he said. Downgrading from abuse to offensive language which clearly they have proven beyond reasonable doubt with the cooperation of the referees involved as they are involved in the appeal process.

At the end of the day, the “Northern NSW Football Sometimes Tolerance Policy” has been an abject failure from the start.
Within the last couple of months we have seen:
* A Magic player suspended, then (quite rightly) exonerated for murdering a referee/putting hands on a referee to mitigate potential injury to both parties
* A rosebuds player hit for six for bantering with the Maitland bench, followed by said bench ratting him out to the linesman
* A rosebud coach not even facing examination by the powers that be for 90 mins + of disgraceful abuse towards match officials which was clearly audible on not one, but two bartv broadcasts from lmrff.
* A Jaffas player exonerated on the basis of statements of 4 blokes on the tins on the hill who are adamant the player said “I was ****ing kicked” as opposed to saying the ref was “a ****ing prick”, which, in contexts, both statements would come under the guise of referee abuse
I honestly don’t think the referees know what constitutes abuse, or how to handle it. Further, I don’t think Northern have figured out a framework for identifying & managing match day incidents. Bartv is filming every NPL first & reserve grade game. High time northern review the footage.

It's been an abject failure because Northern are happy to go after kids and players from lesser clubs, but afraid to hold the bigger clubs and players to account. Should point out that the rosebuds player at his hearing had the Maitland coach and 2 players on the bench put in statements to defend the player as well.

My issue is the lack of consistency across all competitions enforcing it. Few ZL games I've seen they just let it slide and don't bother but then a few other games they're particularly anal about it.
For example on Sunday for Croatia v Croudace Bay. Crabs Ressie player correctly sent off for calling opposition player a Fat C**t but then Croatia coach giving both barrels to somebody in the second half and calling them a C**t which was heard by everybody goes unpunished
If it is going to be enforced it shouldn't just be as you feel like it. All in or not at all.

Well it is Kahibah Reserves that should be getting the 6 point deduction, so would have no affect on BelSwans 1st grade.

Magic
Lambton
Edgy
Charlestown
Olympic

Maitland
New Lambton
Adamstown

Correct, Magic did choke in the cup game. I’m not taking sides but correct me if I’m wrong I didn’t see the Magic coach downplaying the loss, and by the way Jaffas aren’t out of the premiership race yet. I think Alton’s comment on the Jaffas being disrespectful is spot on.

You know, it wouldn?t hurt to have some rivalry in the local game.
It?s pretty sterile now.
Olympic vs Magic was the biggest day of the year.
You longed to play Magic or Olympic at their home, just to silence the supporters. There was something very special about those games.
A little bit of healthy banter/rivalry is good for the league imo.
Bring on the ?nobody remembers the minor premiers?. If it fires Magic up to win the grand final over
Jaffas it would be great theatre.
The season is still going. Once it?s over, everyone can go back to congratulating and patting people on the back.
Until then, I?m all for the mind games.

I saw photos of the pitch in the morning and it was clearly a swamp
Would it have been ok after a few hours of sunshine, I don't know...but it was "under water" that morning.
Photo was on the competition's FB page. Given the result last night though, hard to imagine Magic had to be worried about playing that game (9-2 scoreline)

Doubt they would have called it purposely, they had a networking event planned according to socials. As good as everything outside the field fence is amenities wise, the ground itself at Wanderers Oval (inside & outside the Magic Park facility) is pretty dicey at the best of times. District park was the same before the Knights COE was built.

The most of the time should be the key, aim for most of the time and in the few cases where it won't work clubs just need to lump it. May only be 3 or 4 match days where it doesn't happen.

Agree after watching Sunday's game - they are a fair way off NPL. I think at worst a playoff between 2nd and 3rd then the winner plays second last in NPL. I don't believe the team coming 4th (in what was effectively an 8 team comp given Wallsend's form) should be getting an opportunity at it. Just my thoughts.

Agree with you as sent football goes...shouldn't even be required to have youth teams to be in that division IMO...just the best squad of 1st grade footballers they can muster
I agree. Youth shouldn?t be a requirement to play NPL. With promotion through all grades NL1 might end up with half the comp not having jnr teams in the coming year. Where does that leave promotion etc. it should be the top 12 strongest clubs in first grade are in NPL wether they have Jnrs or not

Absolutely not, If your club can't manage to have youth as per FA regulations then they shouldn't be in what's considered the second tier of football in this country, its embarrassing to think otherwise when EVERY OTHER NPL competition has to do it. Stop making excuses, if they can't do it go back to local league.

So saw on Facebook Victoria announced their all star NPL team for men and women to play their annual game against an all star QLD teams.
Why isn?t this a thing for NNSW VS Football NSW, would be a good watch I think and after we learn a thing or two about where we are in line with our counter parts we might then have a rethink about the stupid amounts of money rumoured to be payed to players in this comp.

Oh I?m well aware of the fact that Northern NPL standard is terrible it?s a part of the reason I want it to happen, always hear of the rumoured amounts teams spend on their squads maybe once they send the best players and get flogged they might reconsider what they pay out and try to put some of that money to better use.

What about coaches these days, full of excuses. Tanch’s excuse for 4 losses in 6 games, we were missing key players, the Australia Cup game is our priority, nothing to do with just not good enough and beaten by a better side. And what about Pete McGinness’s play to the conditions, can’t play good football on a shit pitch when you train on a good one, making excuses before a ball is kicked, again not good enough or maybe the penalty spot was not conducive to taking good penalties was the reason for looking the GF. Oh, any by the way Magic Park looked spectacular yesterday and the football from both sides was of a high standard, easily the best two teams all year.

The edgy send off was wrong and affected the result. The initial Magic shoulder through the back and is a free kick everyday.
The send off to was just to make the turd in the middle feel better. And no not a edgy supporter. Swap that scenario around and I still think the same.
I just want a fair game not free of mistakes but no big blunders. The studs into the keeper was a yellow or red all day.

Well the reason for that is pretty obvious. Most lower lge clubs had their semi finals on across the region and half of magics fans were either playing or watching the suns semi at Myer park which they had all 3 grades playing and was put on the same day same time which is the dumbest thing I?ve seen. How nnsw and Newcastle football didn?t change the zone lge game is beyond me.

Alot of talk about the scheduling of the NNSW NPL Grand final. I will honestly say I assumed it was on Sunday and only realised it was on yesterday after looking at the online Herald last night. I guess my bad, don't assume anything.
But seriously why don't we go back to the Sunday Afternoon Grand Final like it used to be? Maybe they were worried about a clash with the Knights knowing they would not have finished top 4 and could have been involved in a Sunday afternoon final.
If Northern NSW wanted bigger crowds it's up to them to move games away from zone league finals, It's them that benefits from a larger crowd finals.
Last game of football in the region for the year should always be NPL First grade final. Definitely not the case at the moment.

I was at the game and quality was ok but edgy played very direct and Magic had more skilful players - but what about NNSW ! Could not organise anything ! Biggest day of year and a small crowd , 1+ hours between ressie and 1st grade with nothing , then a speaker system that doesn’t work ( I couldn’t hear a thing) , just rubbish as always from Nnsw , continue to be the biggest issue in our local game run by ignorant people who think they know best - let’s give 11th place a trophy & medals for being poor all year ! What a joke
