ladies, gentleman, plague, we are live for the september 10 edition of q-form, live from mum's basement...who's ready to get blown out in the last leg of the quaddie (me, because it's the only blow i'll get all week ayyyyyyyy)
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L7TFyXaHT-U/VjjFJts8CBI/AAAAAAAAoHg/IFildYzZWdI/s1600/Pentagon%2BDriver.gif
will probably stick to rosehill for the most part today as my melbourne form isn't great of late (either's my sydney form, for that matter)
Rosehill R1: hard to look past Longkissgoodnight at the weights, but I think i'll have a small play on Rosaleisha E/W, a better horse than form suggests. Baker hasn't got much running here today and I like her at 8s. Only small, lots of chances to get rolled here early.
Rosehill R2: Dubaiinstyle scratched this morning so changes the face of the race a bit. Waller with nearly half the runners as usual and Antonio Giuseppe is the best of them. Hard to go past him at 1800m. Dangers in Lanciato who has been terribly unlucky, and the 1800 is also great for him. the $5 about him is right and maybe worth a dabble if he gets over his frankly terrible luck.
Rosehill R3: Taking on Sir Bacchus here with Highly Geared (soz LRO). Jennings claiming 2 and very well weighted against the toppy - maybe just a bit too long at 1200 but where's the fun in backing a $2.30 pop. Better horses in this race but is a danger. Highly Geared E/W.
Rosehill R4: The old flaming trash fire of the TAB Highway Handicap. Here's my tip, keep your money in your wallet or go play the keno. Quatronic has the form, as with Moss My Name but if you can pick this well done.
Rosehill R5: I would much prefer Avdulla on Allergic to James McDonald, but he gets the ride here and should get the chocolates if he doesn't run into a classic Jmac rolling box with no way to get out. The magic man Moirera gets on Mccreery and if he can get over his stinking Australian form could be a shot. Not great confidence here but will good to watch I think. Have a stab at Rules Girl with the low weight the place if you feel like a thrillseeker.
Rosehill R6: Welcome to the lay fest of the century. Blokes piling into Yankee Rose and Omei Sword and I just can't do it. Both are serious horses but the fact she's mental makes me worry about the former, and Moirera worries me about the latter. Both can win this if everything goes to plan, but this is racing and things very rarely do. Have the blinkers really made that much difference to Yankee Rose? We'll see. Astern was just superb the other week in the Run to the Rose and winners of this have generally come through the race, but isn't drawn great. For me, and the one i'll be backing is Impending. Gun draw, the Gun on the back and Gun odds. Go well my friends.
R7: Tycoon Tara v Southern Legend here, the Ledge probably has the edge but we're in a good spot for Written Tycoon sired horses and I like her at the price. Should be a very nice look at both, Old North did me in on a few multis earlier this year but is a decent nag. The ledge to get it but i'll be backing TT.
R8: Old mate Pearls is brave as they come and I always find it hard to go against here. Won her last start and is up against Ravi who's main threat is being first up. Take Pearls here.
R9: A classic quaddie killing minefield here to finish the day. Invizabeel and ****ing Dinghu Mountain should get this but it will be a disaster whatever way you look at it. If you want it, you will have to go wide. Stay brave my legions.
Flemmo: Detective, Tashbeeh, Defcon, UTL, and my best down there is probably Royal Rapture. Pilote d'essai is too short

cameron & newcastle gold cup throw up some interesting matchups on friday. maybe my mate decision time can shake off the funk he's in in the cameron
to saturday...
signposted has opened at 8.50 in R2, fmd
no rain forecast but randwick dries terribly so maybe it's soft enough for him, who knows. 3 wins on the soft but i'll lock a little in to get the day going
tango rain, awoke, clearly innocent all pop up from my book through the rest of the day.
you won't see a greater quaddie killer than R9...fmd, disgusting that they can do this to punters, lol
in the george main i'm with tosen stardom to do an unlikely number on winx if he can find a gun run, but coming back to good ground though will see winx get home even if bowman finds trouble like he did in the donny, she can win from anywhere.
still, gotta have a play with 13s for TS, quality horse.

Was meant to be going to the races on Friday but now have to work spewing.
Happy to take on Le Romain in race 6 with Sadlers Lake 3.5kgs lighter. Both also nommed for Saturday racing.
Savourex in R5, Sense of occasion in R7.
Lol the last at Randwick on Saturday is absolute poison if you are betting the quaddie have to take the field for when some ****ing donkey like Zoutenant rolls Torpenhow.
Love clearly innocent, but jeez its not a bad race Kaepernick has a ridiculous TOF when he feels like turning up and so does English, Japinosme is usually bombproof and Dothraki is always there abouts.
Hartnell into Winx could be an easy way to double your money.
Blackbookers for the weekend:
Fri R2 @ newy Niccolance
Morpethville R6: War thunder
Caulfield R2: Modern Wonder
Caulfield R7: Hucklebuck

randwick R1: Signposted again. the 8.50 is silly money for a horse in such super form. track the danger but the runs are on the board. good horse.
randwick R4: Awoke. just really like this horse. foxplay at great trip though but if Awoke gets a look it's lights out. The Gun on board - let's do this thang
randwick R5: the q-man is going searching for #value here with storm the stars to finally get something worth running on. son of one of the legendary horses in the q-barn, Sea the Stars - time to do something here mate or it's one expensive pile of glue you will become
caulfield R2: vikingjet's mate Barthelona the clear one to beat for mine, could end up being anything this bloke. good enough to beat the dud barrier and maps to win.
other nonsense for the day: caulfield r9 - justice league; pakenham r3 - time to sail

This horse looks untouchable in Australia over a mile.
It's a shame she's not a genuine stayer otherwise I'd like to see her go to Europe and take on the best in Europe in the Arc - or have a crack at a Japan Cup.
I could be wrong but I don't know if Winx could run 10 furlongs under European conditions let alone 12 furlongs.

Yesterday was alright, landed Barthelona, Guard of Honour, old mate Storm the Stars gave Hartnell the suck run and missed the 2nd unfortunately as well - Hartnell is some beast. Wet tracks just aren't STS's thing i think. Will keep an eye out going forward.
Just watching Winx in the flesh was an honour, beautiful horse - there is not much to her compared to some of the big boppers - but she is just so, so good. Bowman's ride was a thing of arrogant beauty
Japonisme is for the bin I think, has nothing left in the tank and I don't reckon we'll see too much of him in the near future
English did everything wrong - best thing about that race was Gary Moore giving it the absolute huge ones out on the course proper after Takedown landed it :rof:

I was at the track also. Great day as you say and titty everywhere.
I had a shocking start but emptied my wallet on Foxplay. Was worried Bowman had shot it in the foot after the turn, but he is a prick and just shoved a horse out of his way to make the space.
Winx, Hartnell - no trouble. English - disappointing but sat wide most of the race.
Got the trifecta in the second last, but went off the winner for Federal. Could have been a little bit of a better pick up.
Through a couple on Torpenhow @@ $7.5 in the last. Thought it was a good thing coming down the straight. Not to be.

i just landed back in the country after a couple of weeks on the japanese circuit and am currently stuck in a transit lounge in cairns ffs. fuming, but a decent excuse to get stuck into the form so i can pay the credit card off after the damage that the missus has done to it, arf!
anyway here's the q-tips $et for today at randwick and caulfield ooooft (all care and no responsibility taken)
Randwick R3: Signposted - not just a mudlark, his form seems to be improving and only ran into Fabrizio last start that got him into strife. $5.50 is great money for him, snap it up early
Caulfield R4: Chetwood - godolphin runner that keeps doing great work. Won the Cameron Handicap and beat Le Romain who is no slouch. one
Caulfield R5: Going with Ameristralia here, Dunn beat Miss Vista who got a dud ride last time out but the mare is very decent and for mine better value than Sheidel in this. Jmac on Sheidel very tidy though. Back both if you feel like it.
Caulfield R6: if you're not having a stab on He or She at 34s for a laugh i dunno what you're doing. disasters happen (Zenyatta, anyone) and this is one of those ones that has something like that written all over it. A wiser man than me has said suggested an exacta with Winx and He or She as well, as BHB might just be in it for a bit of fitness and get eased down rather than going head to head with the great mare.
Caulfield R7: Running with Global Glamour here, has been absolutely crunched in from double figures to slight second favourite - Tim Clark gave her a peach the other week to win the Flight Stakes and should be every chance here. Foxplay has the edge on her in H2H battles but I think GG turns the tables on her today.
Caulfield R8: Tons of chances here with some serious horse-meat on display. Impending, Divine Prophet and probably half the field have genuine claims - but I'm running with Evacuation. Distance is right and can be a genuine contender if he can hold off the aforementioned two by getting at them early and nullfying their closing sections. easier said than done though...right
Caulfield R9: fuming Tosen Stardom is scratched again, have been frothing to see him since the Dato Tan Chin Nam but hasn't come back from his float injury (lol). He's Our Rokki is great, and should win this - but get some bickies on Miss Rose De Lago e/w. Loves Caulfield and gets Katelyn Mallyon back on today who will give her the front running position she needs. Hopefully she can boot her home and run them off their feet on the good track. Boost your odds or do whatever you can to get on, should be a belter.
Caulfield R10: Japonisme clearly cooked, being scratched this morning. Off to the farm :(. Again Flamberge should bruise them up as hard as he can on the speed and hope for the best. Runs into Star Turn who is good everywhere but too short for me. Flamberge e/w is a nice way to end the day (as opposed to the last at Randwick which is a nailed on quaddie death march)
good luck my G's

Another Winx win. The way things are going all the action will be in the Group 2 and Group 3 races as everyone continues to avoid Winx.
Absolutely no way will Hartnell give Winx any trouble in the Cox Plate. Hartnell is a good galloper but he's not a champion by any stretch of the imagination. His last three wins he's essentially beaten horses that are nowhere near top class.
Only a crash aka Naturalism's Cox plate or a shit ride aka Shane Dye on Veandercross at Caufield in 1992 will stop Winx going back to back in the Cox plate.

geez louise id have loved to see Adelaide go against Winx in their pomp in the Cox Plate.
Winx was faster by a second compared to Adelaide in 2014 but had half kilo less and made all that time up in the last 600m where it had a clear run (and it was a ****ing awesome final 600).
Adelaide had to gobble them all up through traffic to get the win after being last at the top of the turn.
Adelaide was a damn good horse.
Winx still $1.90 ton win this year. get on now boys, no one is coming close.

came across a useful bit of words from old mate Adam Blencowe with the Timeform analysis for the UK brigade and is pointing at Scottish. Worth a read and hard to argue when you look at who old mate has come up against. The 7.50 seems overs on the back of it.

Yeah reading up on SJH (haven't paid attention to the telly) the age bothers me as does its tendency to sit deep. Not sure Blake Spriggs is the guy to guide through a big field in a group 1. Scottish not winning at the distance is a tad concerning, but theres def some keen wraps on it.

Milers tend to run very well in the Caulfield Cup and history proves it. There have been plenty of winners and placed horses who struggle to get the 12 furlongs anywhere else - but many a miler has turned close to the lead in the cup and managed to get on with it. Leilani, Might n Power, Makybe Diva, Northerly, and Super Impose, Cole Diese, Imposera, Sydeston, Fawkner, Mummify, Elvesroem, Sky Heights, Diatribe, Mannerism... and so on were all very strong milers
The genuine stayers sometimes win it as well but they are still top class milers or need the race to be run to suit them - Doreiums is an example - but again strong over a mile against anything not a genuine WFA horse. This happens about as often as a Horse wins the cups double - rarely.
Three year old 12f form and further I'd not waste my time with as it rarely tells us anything more than where the horse is at with respect to maturity rather than staying ability. Mighty Kingdom, Beau Zam and Nothing Leica Dane being the only genuine three year old stayer in recent times that went on with it. Your Octagonals, Mahogany, Stylish Century... and so on relied on class more than staying ability to cover the 12f plus distances.

i mean i know I'm reading the same form as everyone else but are we sure Jameka is a legit $4 fav this weekend?
i thought last year was a bit of a layup and its the first time in ages id won cash on the Caufield Cup but this reminds me of the Cox Plate a few years back where Ocean Park was clearly the best horse yet Green Moon was the raging favourite.
Talk me into or out of it boys because I'm seeing value in Sir John Hawkwood and even Craigy Williams' donkey is raising my eyebrows.
I won't be getting my money on Jameka. Had a decent run last start but there are some seriously nice imports in the race I wouldn't be betting against - and certainly not at those ridiculous odds.
Scottish is the one I wouldn't be betting against and Sir Isaac Newton has great form as well as breeding to die for.

Vadamos has some pretty awesome form in Europe against top class opposition. He is also a horse that likes to be up on the pace so the valley will probably suit him. Still think Winx is the one to beat but this bloke will definitely come into calculations if the track is a little soft on raceday.

Lots you can't ignore in the race - but the draw will let him do what he does best and pile the hurt on from Barrier 1, one for the sentimental characters out there, if he wins i'll cry i reckon. Flemington R1: Carbine Club Stakes
Not many race days can boast a race as good as this as the first on the card. Royal Ascot would trot the Queen out - then put on a BM58 with 6 unseen runners. Here we have proper horses, in a pretty outstanding G3 race when you look at it. Of the runners, Morton's Fork is still stuck in the pocket he was in a couple of weeks back, and I think he also knows the whereabouts of Ghisoni, Harold Holt and MH370 and the Nazi Gold Train. If he could find a way out for Takedown as well, I'd be even happier.
My picks here - Morton's Fork on top from Bezel and Comin' Through. Bezel up in class and occasion, and Comin' Through up into the trip he's been needing. All three have genuine chances but I think I'm with the Fork here.
Flemington R2: Mumm Wakeful Stakes
Load the contents of your wallet, credit, cigarettes and first born into Tiamo Grace*.
Alliterate the danger for me. Will be on TG with an E/W play on Alliterate - look for exactas/quins here.
(* no responsibilty taken for contents lost)
Flemington R3: Sensis Stakes
Huge field and a ton of live chances here. My numbers 2/1/7/8 with 7 & 8 being top EW stabs.
Sheidel and Wild Rain have the formlines that stack up - big question for Sheidel it's the first time down the straight but I've seen enough data to debunk that theory.
She has one Joao Moreira on the back and I think that's quite important (which will also run into Plague's dilemma in the Cantala Stakes - which I will get into later in the piece). The Magic Man can rate a winner, and although there’s very few blokes riding better than Damian Lane- I think that he’ll get Sheidel home over a very top notch contender in Wild Rain. I have Almighty Girl well rated here at 17, and the People’s Champ – Palazzo Publico in for a tenner E/W at the frankly outrageous 61.
Flemington R4: Lexus Stakes
1/2/7/10
If you aren’t rooting for Junoob - you are un-Australian and ripe for an old fashioned left-right-goodnight.
The bloke is bulletproof and doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He gets a shot at a Melbourne Cup if he wins this FFS. How can you not get around him.
In a week where Buffering retires, and Fab Fevola dies, this is what the people need. Bowman owes a ton of us for the dud rides he had around Winx and getting the ‘Noob home is how he should do it. I’ll lay off him for a week or two if he does. I swear.
For the roughies - Rose of Virginia is massive overs at 61 and worth an E/W shot for a schooner or so. I really want to get around Oceanographer, being a son of my favourite horses in Sea the Stars, price just can’t do it for me.
Flemington R5: Coolmore Stud Stakes
Staggeringly good field, easily the best in the world this year in terms of potential. The two Victorians in Extreme Choice and Flying Artie who I had pegged as duds have totally and utterly proved me wrong (not hard). It is a shame that Capitalist has been scratched as it would have made a great thing even better.
Extreme Choice has beaten the biggest, baddest dudes on the planet at MV in the Moir, and looked like he could do even better in a trial where he was held in a vice-like grip. However it’s easy when you’re carrying 52kg. Star Turn did all the work while beating everyone’s brains out in the Schillaci (albeit under WFA with 53) Gets a sharp rise to 57 under set weights and will be back to the pack.
Really though – weight isn’t much to consider when you look at these blokes, and then you throw in Astern + Russian Revolution - who I think is the forgotten horse here.
Hard to argue with his form - I really like Extreme Choice and think that he’s probably come on better than Flying Artie who has terrible manners on the course. I am frothing for this and will have dollary-doos on Extreme Choice, Astern and Russian Revolution. Strap in. How great.
Flemington R6: Myer Classic
Will be taking very big interest in First Seal who seems to have blown the cobwebs out, and Danish Twist at this trip. Watch for Don’t Doubt Mamma’s withering finishing speed, and Dunn will have her right in the zone to get home. Always hard to ignore Rising Romance who doesn’t know how to not finish on the podium.
2/4/7/1 in any order.
Flemington R7: Victoria Derby
Froth overload. Sacred Elixir hard to ignore and is excellently prepared for this trip. 2.80 probably about right numbers and will get at it. Looked great in the Vase and a red-hot chance. Prized Icon absolutely cursed at the moment but surely due some luck. Swear has been up against some tip-top opposition and only got beaten by Yankee Rose who then went on to run third in the Cox Plate behind two of the best horses on the planet. I’m going to back Swear here and have a stab at Highlad E/W. Highlad seems to attract rotten luck and hopefully will have more luck at HQ. Can’t discount So Si Bon, but I think he might find a few better here – but if Bowman wants to atone for his stinking form here’s a good time to do it, and the horse is quality.
Flemington R8: Cantala Stakes
Very intriguing betting race here. I have never, ever been able to catch The United States and he did it to me again last week. Absolute turf warrior this chap, by the great Galileo and capable of winning from everywhere. If he gets the run he’ll probably go very, very close.
My main marker here though – is Mackintosh being ridden by the Magic Man. His winning ride in the Theo Marks should be required viewing for every apprentice out there. Lined them up at the 400, got caught in strife, moved out, switched whip hand and gave him an almighty whack to get him in the right frame of mind and held off fast finishers all around him. I was of the opinion all he had to do was sit and sprint but this run sold me on him.
Few of the other blokes around in this race have been up for a very long time (Rokkii, Voodoo Lad etc) and I think they will be fighting it out for the minors behind the two aforementioned.
Mackintosh on top from the United States in an obscenely close run thing.
Flemington R9: tab.com.au Stakes
Some great old warriors in here and a decent way to lose your quaddie. A few $70 shots would be nice if you picked the field but whatever. My numbers 6 from 5/8/11. Enjoy.
Thanks for reading chaps. Go well.

Big Orange is the best horse in the Melbourne Cup this year and I cannot see the 57kg being an issue.
He likes to lead / be on the pace and he can stay all day. It's going to take a very good horse to run him down - the only issue for me will be if there is a strong wind blowing and he's forced to do all the hard work out front.
If there's no wind / rain then I think he's going to be the best value cup runner since Vintage Crop when he won.
Nice write up Q. I'm only just reading it, though I had another good day on Saturday. Best day of the year and, in my opinion, you can follow the form lines a bit easier then most other big race days.
Got the winner and a small part of the tri in the 1st and the winner/quinella in the 2nd. Had a few trifectas running 1st, 2nd and 4th. I think it was three in total. Had a bit on Oceanographer (following into Cup) and got all the tri in the last.
I don't usually have a good betting day Melbourne Cup Day, but hopefully I can keep riding this wave. I've got Oceanographer as my pick, after it's last two runs here. Hopefully gets itself in a spot midfield, from a decent barrier, and runs over the top of them. I'm not too concerned with it's workload, like some are. It really only ran for 600m on Saturday and was supposedly back spritely at track work yesterday. I've doubled him up with Yankee Rose on Thursday.
My tri - Big Orange, Hartnell, Jameka, Almandin, Our Ivanhowe and Oceanographer.

Thanks mate, gives me something to do on a friday night  Had to rejig a bit of the strategy through the day, will try and be more concrete next time!
I'm a bit up in the air on Oceanographer, while the closing sectionals were pretty impressive i'm not sure that's the pattern you want to be taking in against proper stayers up in trip. hard to argue with them though, if they walk like they did last year, you'd expect that he and Hartnell will go for broke if they get the tempo they need.
Very good writeup here from Luke Murrell who brought out Protectionist - http://www.justracing.com.au/
Big knocks on Curren Mirotic around from some but he is a serious horse and can definitely change the pattern if Berry lets him go and set the tempo like Murrell says.
My Japanese form is for the bin though ffs. I picked A Shin Hikari in the Tenno Sho last night when I never should have jumped off the Maurice train. Brained them.
I've gone the scattergun approach here, I have backed Big Orange, Secret Number, Bondi Beach, Curren Mirotic, Assign and Wicklow Brave to varying degrees of confidence, with Big Orange getting most of the biscuits.
Will have a gander through the lineups tonight but not much really takes my fancy until after the Cup. Quaddie could be interesting.
Personally, I don't think Cup day is a good day for punting. Big fields and form all over the country make it hard to line up. It won't stop me trying.
I'm also yet to look at the fields. Will buy a paper when I'm at lunch and go over it tonight.

what a day. Had a few in the q-form above but romped home with prized icon and illustrious lad through the afternoon #fillup
Had a cracker of a day myself.
Nailed:
Comin through who could be a serious race horse did it fairly easy in only his 3rd run.
Tiamo Grace and Sebring dream quinella
Shiedel
Oceanagrapher and Tom Melbourne quinella
Missus picked flying Artie, reading Luke Murrels write up on this race he nailed it had been bagging out extreme choice and he was proven right, see Q's link for his write up on the cup he knows what he is talking about and sticks strongly to his opinions.
Have to thank Q for talking me back into Prized Icon, I had gone a bit cold on him and do love the horse, went back over the form and he had the exact same sort of lead up as the other group 1 he picked up and form around Yankee Rose.
Le Romain liked his odds after pantsing Press Statement earlier this year and Lees was confident.
Was a bit disappointed in my boy southern legend.
As much as I love the Melbourne Cup and have done well on it in the past its a pretty mud day of racing. But will try and do some form for tomorrow, I spotted early overs with Sir Bacchus in the last but he is not guaranteed to start as they are looking at putting him in the greys race on the last day which I'm not too happy about but am talking out of my pocket there.

Tough card, but value can be found if you’re brave (or stupid) enough
R1: Suit yourself, what a ****ing joke this race is. An insult to punters. 70% unseen runners. No wonder people think racing is crooked.
R2: Taking Jessy Belle e/w, I see Model Dragon has a bit of money coming for it now. Like the Smerdon horse here too, see if there’s a go for it – if so follow it in
R3: Murphy’s Delight my top pick here. Junoob form from the great warrior’s last win and gets Bowman on, back in grade too. Up in trip and sound enough. Have to respect Morning Mix with my second wife Katelyn Mallyon on, money will probably come for Cinnamon Carter off the win at the Valley, is the backup too quick?
R4: Demonstrate top pick. Godolphin runner with the top dog JMac on board and walked it in at Geelong last start. Hard to argue against. Opened 2.30, wish I bothered to look earlier!
R5: Amanaat and Biased Witness. Will be backing both.
R6: Faraway Town, Invincibella and Skylight Glow all take my fancy here, as with Sylpheed. Sylpheed and Skylight Glow last out into disastrous wind at Caulfield. Not ideal race to pick but these 4 probably the best. Faraway Town e/w and Sylpheed win.
R7: See previous thoughts
R8: Look at Muraqaba e/w. Ryan Moore on Tashbeeh, bit of a change from Maurice in the Tenno Sho., lol. Dunno if I can take Fabrizio at 2.5. If it drifts I will. Can’t ignore Jacquinot Bay either, tough old bloke Will focus on Muraqaba.
R9: Skip’s mate Sir Bacchus here against Ravi. Personally going to go with Lord Von Costa e/w here, got no luck in the race with Demonstrate mentioned above at Geelong and still ran on for fourth. LVC a decent bet.
R10: Egyptian Symbol for the win, with Onemorezeta e/w. She owes me as for some reason I’ve been shoveling money into her, only Lees runner all day. Maybe he wanted an invitation into the grandstand or something.
Good luck gents. Will see how I go through the morning then have a stab at the exotics in the cup and the quaddie.

i love donkey racing.
i don't like the melbourne cup for the following 2 reasons.
1. a few years back the secretary at my old work used to put a half unit on every horse but not tell anyone. then after the race she'd rummage through her bag and pull out the winning ticket. she only did it for the ego trip of 'picking the winner' and suckers at work fell for it every time (i used to hang with her younger brother who was the person putting the bets on for her). this is everything thats wrong with gambling. gambling is about making money. gambling is not about idiots getting the adulation of other idiots (thats what gymnastics is for).
2. dickheads who dress up to go to the ****ing cricketers or mary ellen for the race. tarts whacking a fascinator on their bonce thinking they are killing it sucking down shit champers wildly screaming like ****wits thinking their horse won not realising theres another ****ing lap to go. **** those people, and **** them trying to get a taxi at 5 in the arvo staggering around honeysuckle after not getting let in to another shit pub full of assholes in fascinators.
now, onto the race.
If i was betting for the win id be loading up on Hartnell. I reackon its the best horse in the race, but that doesnt mean shit when there are 23 other asshole horses who don't care about your divine right to win. If there was any justice in racing then every asshole horse would have go the **** out of the way of the peoples horse 'The United States' last saturday and let it coast home. but no, some other horse with some midget asshole decided they didnt want the people to have nice things and new lego sets for their children. this is why horse racing is corrupt and bad. and by bad i mean awesome.
where I've done well over the years is getting great value from making place bets on roughies. donkeys like zipping, red cadeaux and crime scene have lined the pockets of your boy plague over the years. i usually like geelong cup form but the idiot team behind oceanographer raced it last weekend (yes yes i know why) and its been crunched so no value there. Qewy and Grey Lion might pay $8 or $10 a place. not bad cabbage.
ill be at work all day so unless i get bored and bust out the centre bet account ill be but a spectator. go well lads, and pray for the return of normal saturdays when you don't have to wait in line to get a bet on because some asshole can't work the touchscreen.

Morning Gents!
It's late, but my selections for the day:
1- talked myself into a deposit match with Sportsbet and have used a portion of it to grab the trifecta in the first. Actually had the first four runners but I'm not a first four punter.
2- 1, 11, 8
3- 3,9,11
4- 3,2
5- not a race for me
6- Sydney form here. 12,8,10. Don't mind Skylight Glow e/w if you're looking for a roughie
7- Oceanographer for me
8- 10, 13. Fabrizio has had a long prep. Muraqaba a good e/w bet as said above.
9- 13, 11, 1, 9
10- Egyptian Symbol is my best bet.
Multi - Demonstrate (Win) - Tarquin (Place) - Ravi (Place) - Egyptian Symbol (Win) - $10 outlay returns about $530
Good luck!

Hartnell couldn't stay the 2 miles - no surprises there he's a very over rated horse. He might run a St Ledger but that's as far as he can go these days.
Big Orange [my pick] looked gone with 1200 to go and had horses in front of him on the turn dropping out. Likes to lead but never allowed or able to get the run of the race.
Heartbreak City - had a heap of excuses and only just went down.
Almandin - fabulous run and looked the winner 800m out.
Lost money but think it was one of the better cups as a race in recent times.

Will need to go back 4 or 5 generations in her breeding to find any 2400m form. So she is going to be relying on class to get the job done.
A very good chance but not a sure thing. I'd take even money but think she's going to be shorter than that [ around $1.60 is my guess].
I don't see her getting beaten.
However, I have Almandin running into her, so will probably get done. My spring form is done and dusted.

Sea the Sparkle in R1 tomorrow is incredibly over the odds at 8, snap that up now, i missed the 15's on offer
Few i like tomorrow, i.e. my old nemesis Takedown, Rock forthe Ladies, Exocet and Kentucky Miss. Takedown and Rock have to carry a bit more than usual but are quality units so hopefully can get the job done
Think i will be running a super multi around it, not junkie punting my way into oblivion like yesterday
With YR getting a sharp rise under WFA conditions I can see why they might target her this way towards staying races - but as Dunster said i'm not convinced she has it in her. Happy to be proven wrong though, it's a great story.

Not getting off the YR train just yet, today was a pattern that hasn't been seen since your Vo Rogue's etc. Old love Lasquetti Spirit is no Vo Rogue, but when was the last time you saw someone ping off in a 2500m race that early and stick the trip out? Good on Avdulla and his team for having a crack and running the rest into the ground. This is a horse that couldn't even place in a C1 at Kembla, up against some top notch blood today.
But the fastest horse is the one that wins. Talk track bias all you want but that's no bias. That's wining tactics and great bloody riding. Watch his hands.
I'm not even talking through my kick because I am busted after the last two days, but that was tremendous.

Yankee Rose is a miler. That's it. Like Sunline, the only place she can get further is at the Valley or possibly a Caulfield Cup where a few milers over the years have stolen the race - especially those lightly weighted. [Imposera, Cole Diesel, and Mannerism come to mind].
The only form from the 2016 Crown Oaks for me was Harlow Gold made a huge effort and 99/100 times would have won the race.
With respect to Lasquetti Spirit her preparation was superb. Slowly built up to 2400m form and entered the race with no doubts about her fitness or ability to stay the trip. The only question mark on her was that she's a one paced animal and not one capable of winning anything at 6f like a Vo Rogue or a Sunline - hence no big finish.
The 100/1 odds also got her the win because nobody will chase a 100/1 shot in a race - and by the time they got to the Clock tower and realized the situation it was simply too late.
Lasquetti Spirit will probably never win another race again let alone a Group 1. But who cares, it was one of the best wins I've seen in racing for a long time.

Yeah I'm not ragging on YR i just found the odds insane and as Dunster put it had no real business being so heavily backed.
I got nothing back from yesterdays punt so onwards and upwards to Saturday lads.
A mate sent through a video of one of Lasquetti Spirit's runs at Kembla. Was three/four wide for most of the race, was headed by a couple of lengths by multiple horses on the bend and fought back to run 3rd (I think). From what I saw yesterday and the video, she is a genuine stayer in my eyes. She was fantastic and it was a great ride/tactics from Jockey and Trainer.

With California Chrome getting done over today surely Winx's Cox Plate run would have to be the highest rating performance of the year on turf. If she's not on top in the next listing it's rigged.

Winx Cox plate is supposedly rated at 133+ by Timeform.
This equals So Ya Think, Might and Power, and Gunsynd.
Pretty good company to be in for sure - especially when you consider Gunsynd is the horse that made the Cox Plate the No. 1 WFA race in Australia. Prior to that it was not even the most important race on the card.[the meet was referred to as Mooney Valley Cup day]. To lure the great Gunsynd to race in the Cox plate they increased the prizemoney by 50% in 1972, he won the race, made it the WFA Championship of Australia ... and the rest is history.
Timeform ratings are a great tool to promote ratings to the masses but I don't really read much into them other than a bit of fun.
Not exactly about the horses..

I roll with SB for the most part, I like the setup of the site and you can multi pretty much anything you want (i.e. sports into racing, presidential elections, the block, other nonsense). The lines are tight for sports but if you're a small time punter like most of us are (except Plague) you'll be right
The TAB has few upsides, i.e. all racing video but has a weird set of multi rules for sports and racing, and it's not particularly intuitive and it's a pain in the arse to see your pending bets
SB usually has a good deposit bonus as well, i'm probably saying they will have a UFC205 bonus if you deposit a decent wedge into it

Tab probably has the best app/website but shit odds.
Ladbrokes are ok with promos and boosted odds but when you start winning money they restrict your account. William Hill are very similar.
Crownbet are the one I use the most, when you sign up because legally they can't give you matches for promotions in NSW just email them or live chat hitting them up for some free bets they usually come through with the goods, but beware if you win off a free bet you have to roll it over 1.5 times to take your money.

We use Centrebet but it's merging with William Hill anyway. One of the boys uses (I think) Sportsbet which has a feature you can double down once your horse race has jumped if you like the spot you've settled (which is both hilarious and gambling suicide).
Also if you're trying to get started before the weekend check the rules on getting varified it might delay your ability to get on.

if you aren't spending at least 10+ hours a week doing form on horses forget breaking even imo. i am maybe close to even in the long term, but for the most part behind, sometimes worse than others. the bookie's dream.
my best runs on horses have always come when i've put the hard yards in on form and really limited what i get involved in. i like punting on the nags but that doesn't mean i'm necessarily good at it.
sportswise, where i go wrong is when i creep away from where i am best and can maintain a winning run - i.e. rugby league and basketball.
if i stay where i have an edge it generally keeps me above, but i'll roll that back into shit i like to watch and have a stab at, but where i'm uniformly terrible, i.e. soccer, ice hockey and baseball.
the best way to have a chance is to keep a tight rein on what you put in, manage your bank and don't try and chase back when you're in a losing run. cut your losses and regroup. easier said than done though.
also if you punt on the tote just make sure you pull your cash out and give it to your Mrs.
you might take a bad beat but at least she is happy :rof:

I went a whole NFL season once with a properly researched system and was on fire. won good money pulled out a bunch for a new set of golf clubs then lost 4 figures on what I thought was the easiest bet of the year in the Super Bowl (the answer to my bad beats is always Peyton ****ING Manning).
It's the only time I'd ever felt sick gambling.
Since then I've won $8500 grand in one bet and lost $2000 on another ('sup Hillary?).
I know I'm in front as I'm still positive on my CB account from the day I started. I can go weeks without betting and in our punters club we pool our cash and do $100 a week with the proceeds going towards a trip away with the boys.
Overall with horses I'd have to say probably under including track days.
Casinos in def over.
It's the age old saying but always only bet what you are prepared to lose, because at some stage in your gambling career you will make yourself sick. Gambling has always taught me how to be disciplined, and it's 99% been fun.
That's why I've played pokies maybe 5 times in my life. I don't understand them and have no idea how anyone enjoys them.

There are very few punters in front in the long term, the system is made to lose with the amount of dodgy ****s out there and inside knowledge. I know a couple of guys that do it for a full time job and they punt on pretty much every race every day between Aus and NZ but the bank needed to ride out the bad days is in the big leagues.
I pretty much exclusively put on the horses as I love watching them run around, and am lucky to have 10 bets a week and am really only a $5 punter, usually spend about $20-$50 a week on the punt its just not worth it in the long run I would be in front due to some big wins.
Winx at $41-1 to go unbeaten in 2016 at $25 plus loading up on her to win the CP.
Trifecta in Melbourne Cup a couple of years ago plus Fiorente winning return over 2k.
Got the heads up on a horse called Moshulu earlier this year or late last year started at $41's and drifted to over $100 just before the jump, chipped at it at $41, $51, $61, $81 and $101 and rolled them.
Between these 3 big wins I would be in front over the last 10 years.

yeah i always remember that Sean Bartholomew bloke running a proper gambling empire with loads of data people and all the best info and he used to work on a 2-3% profit margin. Granted he was betting in the hundreds of millions of dollars so it was a lucrative gig but man if that doesnt tell you how tight it is then nothing will.
Even the biggest casinos in the world operate on such small margins its not funny. its all in the volume of money that goes through the joints. no mug punter is ever way way up enough to make a living out of it, but to me its entertainment. if a day at the races is having a blast but losing $100 then it just cost me $100 for a great days entertainment.
i went to the Jets last week and tickets cost me over $50 and i was bored to shit.
Knowing Macca personally, I know he'll be extremely diligent and calculated with his bets. Will be interesting to hear his progress.
Can 100% say when I cashed in on Winx, the winnings went straight into savings and untouchable by my sportsbet account because I know if I let it linger there, it was never hanging around for long :rof:
Personally I punt on EPL/AL every now and then, plus the occasional hot tip horse.
The EPL/AL bets are more about keeping me interested rather than genuinely trying to rake coin in. I put a $5 multi bet on the AL every single week, picking the result of every game. Makes paying attention to the "Studs Up Cup" a bit easier most weeks :rof: but in multiple years of laying said multi down, I'm fairly sure it's gotten up once only :rof: the AL is a filthy league to bet on.
I've crunched the numbers several times on GazFish's bet-on-draws theory and still can't work out how they got up $$. I love the idea behind it but I'm yet to see a spreadsheet work out in the green if stuck to for every single round.
Hot tip for a punt is throw some $$ on Manure to beat Arsenal tomorrow night. If there's two thing Arsene can't do, it's beat Jose or beat Manure at OT. This game is the double-whammy. Not even going to bother to watch the fxxxing thing.

Thanks for the responses, I might have to look into it. Not sure I follow anything closely enough right now that I'd be confident, would be hard going in EPL, A-League, Champion's League I reckon. I find betting on football a lot harder compared to other sports.
Most sports have a likely result of either team winning, football throws an extra opportunity to lose your money with a draw. And we all know how easily some big teams who should win throw points away to minnows.
AFL and Tennis are my go to's for multi betting, the favourites win a large majority of the time.
