Heard edgy got up 2 - 1 last night over southy. Didnt end up catching the game due to work but also heard southy played some of there 23s and even a 17s player. Did anyone get out and see the game ?

I didnt get a chance to go to the Southy VS Edgy. I forgot about the game to be honest.

Just spoke to a Edgeworth supporter so this maybe biased. He said hats off to Southy for first time he saw Southy playing out from the back. He said their system playing out was good their execution was lacking occasionally, but overall wasnt to bad and they will get better.

Apparently the game was played in good spirits and both teams had chances, though Edgy seem to have a couple of decent chances in the second half that they failed to put away.

I cant say whether Southy had any players missing. Edgy were missing Wheeler, Woods, Krause (spelling?), Spark, Zane and Knight (hard to believe over half a team missing).

Apologies if this isnt to accurate it is second hand knowledge. With both teams missing large amounts of players it would be hard to gather any real opinions of strength.

Would like to see a recount from someone who was at the game.

Was at the game, both teams gave the ball away for fun in the first half , Southy blooded some young blokes in the second, there was a couple of nervous u17 players I can tell you that, Johnson young played well for edgy in a holding midfield position, could be his new spot, both teams missing players, Southy missed Walters, Tidey, Korotich , Kelley & burns, good hit out though especially for the young blokes form both teams, result was miminmal and game played in good spirit, good to see edgy finally blooding some youth and not inheriting a championship
PS, Southy always play out from the back, unlike others

Thanks for the recap. A bit of average play is to be expect with still 3 weeks to the season and more so with young guys running around.

interesting PS. i am sure in recent past years people would not totally have the same opinion. But moving forward good to hear what they are doing is playing football.

Jaffas without co captain Jason Donnelly, Abe Wheelhouse, and last years captain and centre back Ben Herron.

So Jaffas 3 out, Olympic 4.
So both close to full strength. If u ever get full strength through a season!

I managed to get out and see the 23s and 1st games. Was impressed by southy 23s, pretty young 23s team but did very well in defence. The two centre halfs number 3 and i think number 4 did a great job in handling scott smith. Southy really should won by more.

He thought he should start every week but unfortunately some times you need to be patient, not something young players of today have, so now he's gone to Azzurri who have more strikers/ midfielders then anyone, doesn't make sense but time will tell, he left on good terms, thought both teams did well yesterday with both teams playing complete different systems to each other

Kids these days expect to walk straight into first grade, Some coaches give it to them with open arms the old school coaches virtually stand there ground.

I'll correct my mistake as i obviously wasnt paying full attention. Bowlo made one hell of a save, and also denied an own goal without knowing much about it, but i still thought magic were comfortable. But what would i kno, i was chatting and obviously not paying attention lol

I dont think itwas a one sided affair, bt Magic was definitely the better team, they knocked the ball around well and when they didnt have possession defended well and then countered very well and quickly.
Olympic could have easy beenback in the game with a number of chances, but never really looked like they had enough to win the game.

Fairly open game on a hot day, definitely will see alot better performances from both these teams throughout the year.

Very hot dayto be playing as well that wouldnt have helped.

sorry if this is a dumb question but how strong is the nbn league as far as local leagues go accross the country.

How many leagues are 'stronger'

pv4

imo it goes something like this..

vpl
nswpl
nbn
newfm/central coast

i know nothing of the new apl or queensland in general, though. nor do i know much about perth or other state league comps tbh. but i think it's widely accepted that vpl is the top league, sydney is a class above nbn, and newfm is the level of the central coast, though.

Much like PV4 i do not know a hell of a lot about the QLD states leagues or what is going on in perth. Though out of sheer population and potential talent pools to pick from you would have to assume that Brisbane and Perth are stronger that the NBN state league. Though it might not be the case.

I know with first hand experience that the VPL and NSW PL are stronger than the NBN SL.

With Newcastle having 550,000 people last census you may be able to tack on another 250,00ish when you take into account cessnock, weston, swansea, central coast etc. it isnt a huge selection especially when people do not like to travel from those outer areas. You would have to assume that the states capitals have stronger leagues than what is in Newcastle.

Think the central coast comp may be a little in front of NewFM these days, a couple of weeks ago, Berkeley Vale smashed Awaba 5-1 and last night Budgewoi beat Berkeley Vale 3-2 to reach the grand final of the Central Coast pre season......

but then again Budge is full of players that used to be at toronto when they led the comp with azzuri and maitland in 2011 until the fallout, and would still be there if they had a choice ;)

NBN u23s are probably stronger then half of newfm first grade

I think it shows from results previously with Lakes and azzuri being promoted and finoshing in the top 4 that the top couple of NEW FM teams can compete in NBN.

Howevere there has been a big drop off from the quality in the top 3 teams to the bottom 4 teams.

Think we saw that last year with a 16-1 result in the new fm between first and last and 12-0 between first and 2nd last.
However the top 3 and sometimes 4 teams results are always close.

Bremsstrahlung
28-03-2013, 02:22 PM
I think it has alot to do with 2 or so teams, spending big/relatively big for NEWFM in the hope of gaining promotion. I can't see many "big" signings for NEWFM teams next year as there's supposedly no promotion. Teams like Maitland, jaffas, Lakes, Adamstown and Azzurri, have always had pretty handy squads with quality in all grades and it's no surprise to see them getting promoted/pushing for promotion year after year.

As far as the quality of NBN goes. I think the best in NBN could compete in NSWPL...

QLD NPL is a new comp with some established teams and some brand new teams it's a 12 team comp with only 5 sides based in Brisbane as the federation up there wanted a truly statewide comp. some teams are not as competitive as others being there 1st year in existence but after a few years I think you'll find this will be a very competitive competition. The comp see's the return of Northern Fury playing out of Townsville and even Casey Wehrman player/coach for Western Pride there has been some odd score lines but as I said earlier once the new teams get their footing in a few years time it will be quite a strong League.

I would love to see NSW go the same way and have a state wide state league including ACT with it. Imagine seeing teams from Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle and maybe even a far Northern NSW side based at Coffs Harbour all under the one league but it will never happen

De-Champ
04-04-2013, 02:00 PM
Northern NSW had a comp years ago (in the 80's) that had a few teams from Newcastle, one each form Tamworth, Grafton, Coffs etc. It only lasted one or two years then folded.

2 days of rain midweek and so the SHIT begins:bs:

I have an idea. If the home club calls a game off, then the opposing club should be able to make a call on whether their ground can accommodate the game. So if the Jafs call a game off because their ground is too wet, and they have major players out, and fields either side of them have league and football playing on them, then Magic would have the option of taking that game to their home ground to be played. This would also counter the ridiculous situation a couple seasons ago where rescheduled games were being played at the end of the season when the game was originally called off 2 or three weeks into the season.

EH9
06-04-2013, 03:00 PM
Rescheduled games must now be played on the Wednesday of the week after the original fixture, so teams can't withhold them to suit themselves. I like your idea, but most clubs, I would have thought, wouldn't have enough time to rally the troops to prepare everything they needed to for the fixtures that would start in an hour and a half.

Fair call. BUT. The alternative is you play on the Wednesday evening as you say and selling red frogs and maybe 10 or 20 steaks so really you dont end up making any money from a mid week encounter not to mention the cost of lights... Id say most clubs have half decent canteens usually with enough stock in them to carry them over for a "unscheduled" event.

I also think most people would rather watch a game of football than worry about gourmet menu and eating at the game. Probably inclined to have a couple beers and a red frog.

As i said this would be an "option" and in todays case i could not see Magic not willing to play the game at their home ground. It would help in deterring these types of situations. Am i to assume that the game will need to be played this Wednesday? So the Jafs will have to call off the game again on Wednesday if indeed they are buying time for a depleted team?

can someone answer this for me i've just bin wondering. so as far as i know nbn league runs 17s 19s 23s and firsts. so your in under 23s but the year you turn 24. and your a quality player but just not good enough to make first grade at your club yet. You have to leave and go back to playing i.d premier league at best. is that right?

as newfm runs the same sort of junior based competitions.

im just a dumbass here so i could be way off.

MFKS
06-04-2013, 08:35 PM
If I remember right last year they done a similar thing and rested the players who backed up from HAL/NYL committments at various times through the season. Nothing wrong with them injury/form wise they were just made to sit out a few games here and there with some of them missing 2-3 matches on this strategy.

Also TommyJet I will happily bet my right nut and my left nut and anything hanging between the two that whilst GVE is still in charge of Jets that the Jets Yoof teams will be playing the same way of GVE's 4-2-3-1 / 4-5-1 variant of the FFA approved 4-3-3 which sees 70% of the possession between the keeper and back 4 with GVE's patented up tempo high pressing shite coming to the fore

Also TommyJet I will happily bet my right nut and my left nut and anything hanging between the two that whilst GVE is still in charge of Jets that the Jets Yoof teams will be playing the same way of GVE's 4-2-3-1 / 4-5-1 variant of the FFA approved 4-3-3 which sees 70% of the possession between the keeper and back 4 with GVE's patented up tempo high pressing shite coming to the fore

can someone answer this for me i've just bin wondering. so as far as i know nbn league runs 17s 19s 23s and firsts. so your in under 23s but the year you turn 24. and your a quality player but just not good enough to make first grade at your club yet. You have to leave and go back to playing i.d premier league at best. is that right?

as newfm runs the same sort of junior based competitions.

im just a dumbass here so i could be way off.

I think this will become a bigger issue next year if they move to the rumoured Under 16s, Under 18s and Under 20s + First Grade.

In newfm aren't you allowed to have half your 23's side as overage players or something ridiculous like that?

I have an idea. If the home club calls a game off, then the opposing club should be able to make a call on whether their ground can accommodate the game. So if the Jafs call a game off because their ground is too wet, and they have major players out, and fields either side of them have league and football playing on them, then Magic would have the option of taking that game to their home ground to be played. This would also counter the ridiculous situation a couple seasons ago where rescheduled games were being played at the end of the season when the game was originally called off 2 or three weeks into the season.

I think you need to get facts before posting things like this!

1. The ground was crap!
2. Jaffas had 2 players out. 1 of them is out for 16 weeks. The other is out for 2 weeks. the game needs to played the second wed after the game is called off. Neither will play the rescheduled game, so there goes your conspiracy theory! My opinion is we would rather have Maj available for lakes than against Magic we have a better chance of beating lakes than magic!
3. Attachd is a photo of the ground ! This is a forum for discussion, but making up stuff and accusing clubs of majorly wrong doings when you dont have facts should not be tolerated. Your apology is accepted!
4. Edgeworth had to put their game back tp Sunday due to the poor condition of the ground, but I guess thats ok and nobody questioned that? Although you said fields around them were ok!

We had 10 committee members and 3 players all day Friday including me, trying to soap the water up with a massive sponge so we could get the game on.
We also ordered 750 of those sausages that Magic sell and they asked us to order, so trust me, we wanted the game on for more than one reason!

Here is a photo to soothe your poor thoughts on the jaffas integrity

Fair enough.

1. Your in the NNSW State LEague - why is your ground crap coming off summer.
2. Id still rather play with these two players, in any case when is rescheduled game, this Wednesday or the following Wednesday? I thought by reading the Herald you felt you were ready to play Magic and were up for the fight and yet here you say you have better chance of beating lakes. Do you not believe in your team?
3. Fair call, i could not see those marks from the front gate. Is the ground always locked? I thought there needs to be access to council grounds? Now the question has to be if you knew there were problems with the drainage why had you guys/NCC not done anything to correct it? I would hesitate to let you in the league if your pitch and facility could not be brought up to standard. You know we are week 1 of a winter competition and if we have a wet season you guys are in massive trouble.
4. Is the ground playable today? Nobody questioned Edgeworth because they attempted to get the game played. Credit to them.

Congratulations to you and your committee for putting so much effort into the facility and the club, but you guys knew you had a problem and you have you are dealing with the consequences of it now.

Love those sausages that Magic sell and that hot chilli flakes they put on it and the cabbage salad. Smart thinking selling those to the Magic supporters. Did you buy them from Magic?

1. It's not crap
We had 4 days of rain. As I said edgeworths ground was unplayable
2. One of these players is out for more than half a season. So we are talkIng about 1 player being out which will still miss the rescheduled game mate which gives us no motive.
3. We didn't know there is drainage problems bud. We still don't we are assuming there may be some leaking sprinklers as one side of ground is ok the other is not.
4. The ground is unavailable today if it was ok And it's still not. But Newcastle football had our ground booked today in any case so it wasn't an option
And NO WE DIDN'T know we had a problem with it.

Makes one wonder how is Edden Oval going to cope over the whole season. The fact is that it has been pretty much dry weather for the past few weeks, we had a bit of rain over the past week (I think it was mainly Wednesday and Thursday)but there was no rain at all in the 24 hours prior to Saturday (I live in Lambton and there was no rain at all on Friday). If we have another wet Winter, like we have had for the past 4-5 seasons, Jaffas are probably realistically going to have to play their home games elsewhere.

Or Woman? Good luck and i hope you beat Magic too, but as long as the game is entertaining. I have no allegiance to either one of those clubs.

Sensible people would wonder why all the other State League games were played and only Jaf Jafs games were called off. Sensible people would be wondering what the hell is going on at Arthur Edden that will prevent them from playing a game when it rains 3 days prior.

1. Cant play because ground unplayable = ground CRAP. BOM data shows rainfall of 69.8mm on the Thursday 4th and 8.4mm on the Friday 5th of April. Quite a fair bit of rain in such short period. And yes if the problem with the field was something that happened in the last month this would be great but we had over 167mm of rain on the 1st and 2nd of March. Strange this problem did not show up then.
2. Maybe he will be available, maybe he won't, but having JM playing in your side is a game breaker. I will wait and see if the game is played mid week.
3. Didnt know drainage problems even after the down poor we had in March and yes it may have happened since then. Leaking sprinklers are not the problem as the sprinkler lines are not charged with water unless you have the pump running and the sprinklers on. Not saying it was anyones fault but maybe the sprinklers were left on or malfunctioned?
4. You made the point about Edgeworth i mearly stated that thay made a great call.

I do not know it all, and im not about getting anybody on technicalities, sounds childish to me. I do however agree with MKFS that the "SHIT" begins.

Southy 3- CCB 3
Southy were on fire first half. 3-1 at HT, looked like it could get embarrassing for CCB. Southy underperformed 2nd half and struggled to clear the ball out of their own half. CCB would be happy with the draw, Southy will count it as the one that got away.
Bomb from Alex Pichalof as well to equalise.

Wow!! You're really looking for some suspicious activity aren't you!!
If the gorund was playable on Saturday, plus available on Sunday and playable...the Jaffas would have played!

Facts are, ground wasn't playable Saturday and still wasn't playable Sunday for Newcastle Football!

Also to correct your rubbish knowledge of a Club you know nothing about!! The ground has been the same for the last 5 years since re-turfed. Adequate drainage was not installed by NCC at this time and the ground has always had problems with wet weather on the far side.

That being said, the Jaffas in last few years have consistently provided one of the better surfaces in the top 2 divisions and have always played their matches in accordance with the rules established by NNSW.

This has and will not change and any ridiculous conspiracy theories are just baseless tripe from someone who has no clue!

Why would anyone bite over that Plague?? Not amateur hour you know.

Got there a bit late after Forever Red actually shafted me on the valet parking idea (Where was the shuttle bus by the way???)

Jets Yoof played just like first team. Boring predictable and uninspiring. Down 2-0 at HT with some wonderful defending for the second goal. Nothing ball floated in centre half got a flick to it and proceeded to divert it straight over his teammate straight to the bloke his teammate had left to go to the ball. AMATUER

Half way through the second half I would swear I was watching the HAL team under GVE. Even in the last 10 mins they were ****ing around with the ball between Duncan and the fullbacks when down 2-1 WTF

Coaching from Jets Yoof was woeful as well. Lundy was playing right side of the front 3 and was carving up the Southy Left Back for the first 15 mins of second half and the coach as soon as the Jets got it back to 2-1 decided to put him on the left of the front 3 where he got 10 x less joy with the Southy RB. Swapped over for the last 15 mins but opportunity was wasted.

From what i seen of it Southy deserved win due to Jets Yoof GVE infused ineptness.

Also spotted Deans on the bench so he must have had some ****ing involvement.

Yes they are technically better but also smaller, eg how is a 6 foot u 17 player supposed to go shoulder to shoulder with a baby koala 3 foot tall, they fall over and get the penalty, what a joke. Seen a penalty given today when a guy stood on the ball and fell over.
Only positive side is if the jets teams do well in their divisions northern won't have to restructure things again.

That would be the bloke who was on the park for 15-20 mins before he EVEN touched the ball as all his teammates refused to pass or overhit balls to him all day???

Wasn't his best day. Pulled off to 2 great positions and once his teammate on the right ignored him and flashed it into the 6yard box when it wasn't the ball and was 3 southy on 1 jet. The other time Lundy should have given him the ball but chose to hog it and ran into the space where Kale was standing and got tackled instead of giving it and Kale would have been shooting from 15 yards out. FMD

The pair of them had a great blow up FFFFing and CCCing one another when the ball went back up the other end

I would agree it definitely wasn't his best day. But for mine his attitude was fairly poor when he came on. I don't know if it was the success he had last year in NBN followed up by his solid season in the NYL,

No that means he's bang on target to get a jets contract. That's all most of them do. If they implemented a shaved head policy at the jets A league team, they'd win the comp, because they'd have so much more time with out flicking their hair about.

The youth were a spitting image of the first team. This happened around 10 times. Duncan to wing back, wing back to central defender who would either play the ball back or pass it cross field to the other wing back and than they would play a hopeless
Long ball where bures would just muscle someone of the ball and play it away.

They play so slow, any chance they had would be wrecked by trying to win the possession count as Southy would happily set themselves up as they dicked around with the ball. The number 11 for the youth (Mundy) I believe is a superstar. Fast, good feet and a great crosser of the ball.

Could only imagine what the member was feeling when he saw kale on the bench. I know my head was exploding. Almost felt like shooting deans when he tried to give him advice before coming on.

What a joke the Jets Youth are making of this comp. If they truly want to be a part of this comp then they should be playing their best squad week in week out. It is not fair on other nbn clubs to have the jets youth gifting them wins. Tell me this Forever Red, would you have won your game if the jets youth had played a full squad?

Yes we would off, it is wrong what they do, not many teams can rest 5 first team members , the players rested probably shouldn't play NBN , it should be used as development and play younger guys, there wasn't one player yesterday who will play A league in my opinion

I didn't think Kanta could play youth league due to being a contracted first XI player? Same with Hoole?

As for making a mockery of it, their goal is developing players for the Jets A-League squad. If it means resting their entire first XI, then so be it, that's their prerogative.

Maybe the big issue with his fringe was he didn't have his usual headband on yesterday. Maybe that was why he was too busy with his fringe.

Agree thoroughly his body language/attitude appeared poor yesterday. For whatever reason he came on and didn't see the ball for 15 mins and grew more and more frustrated instead of busting his arse for the cause he dropped his head. Not the type of thing that is gonna impress the HAL coach when he is looking at calling players up to the HAL side this off season. Hopefully a one off and won't see a repeat of it soon.

Absolutely nailed it Newy Rover with your summarisation of the woeful ball movement at tortoise speed. Wouldn't go as far as calling Munsy a superstar yet but he shows some promise

Can't say I was blowing up seeing Kale on the bench. After the NYL season and the lineup last weekend it was more of a surprise seeing him in the squad as I was expecting him to be absent again. So to have him on the bench was a bit of a bonus. Was more dissappointed with his effort yesterday. I expect more from him than that

Maybe the best players you refer to are actually unavailable. Hoole Oxborrow Cooper Pepper etc as part of the first team squad are most likely living it up on their holidays like the rest of our first team are. Remember they are on HAL contracts and the PFA will have stipulated x amount of weeks break from training/matches each year as a standard clause in the contract. As a result the Jets are bound to giving them time off for a holiday so why wouldn't now be the right time??

That also being said the players who played yesterday Cowburn Remington Finlayson Duncan Kale etc have more than enough NYL and NBN experience at this level to put Southy away. End of the day the team was poor and got beat. They didn't get beat cause they were missing Oxborrow Hoole Cooper etc. Sure those blokes would help but if the attitude and application is as was yesterday then they won't win games at this level even with Lionel Messi playing No 10.

Fix the attitude and application and results will take care of themselves

Haven't watched the first two rounds but I've watched a fair few youth league games the past year and the jets in last seasons nbn league and from what I've seen of finlayson(I'm sure he is probably a good kid and all but) my 9 month old son shows more promise than he does. I keep seeing his name bob up on the team sheet and I think maybe he plays alright when when I'm not there, all I've ever seen him do is play with his hair.
Anyone who has seen more of him and thinks he is good feel free to correct me but I've just never understood why he is kept on.

Member, your last 2 paragraphs are spot on. Not only from a youth playing roster point of view but from a Jets youth coaching point of view as well.

While I said Kale was a fair way off A League I believe that if he gets his application/head right, he will get a lot closer to the standard in a lot quicker time. As a local boy I wish him well.

Kale should be playing with a state league club so he can gain experience from the older players, maybe some time in the gym wouldn't hurt either, his a good player but I'm not sure playing with 18 year olds really helps his development , just a thought

I would have to disagree with this comment. Kale being the youth team is everyway better than being in the state league.

Being in pro environment training all the time benefit 1.

second training with highly motivated peers 2.

training with senior team invaluable 3

learning and watching the likes of hesky and bridgy pure gold for his development 4.

that's just to name some of the major ones.

If he was playing in the state league with a state league club he would never get out of there. The technique and attitude of most players is average at best. Training 2 to 3 nights week is not great for a players development.

Now that I have read your comment again I think it is outrageous.

In regards, to your shot at me personally. Been involved in football for over 25 years in a variety of countries. I dare say i can have an opinion. There was one quote on this thread that said four nil to Magic, apart from that there was absolutely no talk of smashing the Jaffas, none whatsoever. I believe the Magic supporters more than anything did not know what to expect so it was a relief to get the three points so late in the game. We did however have so many chances that were either missed or denied by brilliant goalkeeping. I personally believe that Magic deserved the game but take nothing away from the Jaffas who played very well considering they had a few out and the pressure of playing the 2012 GF winners. As for the magic supports they are always well behaved and the isolated incident here and there is not enough to tarnish any club or their supporters as trouble makers. I could well name many incidents over the years that have affected every club in the league including both the nbn and new fm leagues. You would think that any club who has the opportunity to host Magic would relish the chance to make some money on the best supported club in the league. It would be nice if all clubs were as welcoming as Magic is when you play at Wanderers. It strikes me how petty some individuals can be. I also congratulate the Jaffas on hosting a great night, plenty food and drink, we'll organized and presented, and plenty of people willing to work and help out. They could definite teach some other clubs a lesson.

just out of curiousity. anyone have any idea what a second tier goal keeper at coventry would be on?

good money or just scraping by or what? got no idea.

You'd have to think that probably it would only be whatever minimum wage is in the UK?

Does anyone know if other games will be moved at all?? Thinking of heading to watch Azzurri vs Edgy?? Have heard Josh Maguire is back for Azzurri. Can anyone confirm this?

MFKS
20-04-2013, 10:36 AM
CHARLESTOWN City Blues have received a lift for tomorrow's game against Edgeworth with well-travelled Josh Maguire cleared to return to the club.

Maguire's clearance from the Indonesian Football Association was received yesterday and Blues coach Mark Wilson had no qualms about parachuting the central midfielder immediately into his starting side at Jack McLaughlan Oval.

"He's just come off their pre-season training, so he has finished full-time training 10 days ago," Wilson said.

"So his fitness isn't too bad."

The 32-year-old last played for the Blues in 2008, when the then-Azzurri lost the Northern NSW State League final against Broadmeadow.

At the time Maguire was the Blues' star player and among the top echelon of footballers in the competition.

Since then Maguire has traversed the globe playing for Dundalk FC (Ireland), Ho Chi Minh City FC (Vietnam), Persebaya 1927, PSPS Pekanbaru, Semarang United and Persires Bali Devata FC (Indonesia).

Before joining Charlestown in 2007, Maguire played 13 A-League games for the New Zealand Knights.

Wilson said he expected Maguire to be even more dominant in the State League after four years of professional football in Asia.

"Watching him at training last night, he had some decent touches," Wilson said yesterday. "He's a big boost for us."

Maguire will replace midfielder Jay Richley, who is sidelined for four to six weeks after tearing a groin muscle.

Last week the Blues went down 5-2 to defending champions Broadmeadow after first-choice goalkeeper Andrew Goldman was sent off in the 15th minute for a foul on striker Peter Haynes.

At the time the match was 1-all, and rookie gloveman Kyle Predebon took over.

Predebon will start tomorrow as Goldman serves an automatic one-match ban, and Wilson expects the 19-year-old to improve.

"He's actually played several State Cup games over the years, so it wasn't his first hit-out," he said. "He's a confident kid and he'll do well."

Edgeworth also have some new blood in their ranks in Germans Marco Di Biccari and Ali Parhizi.
See your ad here

Di Biccari will debut in under 23s tomorrow, while Parhizi is still awaiting a clearance.

Eagles coach Gary Wilson said his imports would need to earn their first-grade spots in a side that has started the season with a 1-1 draw with Weston and a 2-0 win over Lake Macquarie.

"We're in a better position than we were this time last year, so we've just got to work off that," Wilson said.

"We're looking good with the ball, so I don't think there will be any changes."

Only the Herald so looks promising for Maguire

Must say that the Weston v Magic match was a great game that could have easily been stuffed by poor ref and linesman. Some decisions were pathetic.
Both sides looked to be sound in shape and I can see Weston surprising a few and making the top 4. Magic to win the Premiership still though.

Managed to get out and watch the youth games between southy and valentine and quite enjoyed it.
Some decent football was played and it was exciting. The 19s game was very exciting with southy winning a 4-3 thriller in the last minute with 10 men. Was alot of passion and emotion which was good to see. Was quick and exciting , what they lack in technique they make up with effort. Alot of ex phoenix players now at southy which gave the game abit of spice ! # of them got on the scoresheet and one of them celebrated by pointing at the gunners symbol while running pass the phoenix bench, Was very funny to watch and showed that the game meant alot to the player . ill be deffo going to watch more youth games when i can.

How can this be a fair and even comp when the Jets clearly have kids who are not up to it playing at the moment and are easy fodder but in a few weeks the better players come back and start winning games? If the Jets don't take the comp serious enough to play their best 11 week in week out then they should be punted until such times that they do. Rant over.

The Jets priorities are different. I can't imagine they give a crap about the league result, it's more developing the youth to play for the seniors, and if that means Hoole, Pepper etc don't play for a bit, then so be it. And NNSWF can't punt them, because the FFA would come down on them as its part of their vision for the future of the Y-League teams.

That's what the last a-league season would suggest.
Maybe that's "dutchy's philosophy" finally spreading through the club at all levels.

You must have been watching a different game to me. I thought the first half was played at a high intensity and was great to watch. Thought it was a tough send off on young finlayson yellow at best. Dont see how you come up with jets easily on top at this stage? Apart from Olympic gifting the jets a goal after 30 seconds I can only remember swancott making that great save just before halftimeandnothaving a great deal more to do whereas the young jets keeper made some good saves and Olympic could easily have scored one or two more in first half. Olympic lead 2.1 but jets EASILY on top? Second half deteriated but Olympic should have scored another 5 against the 10 man

It's not as simple as stating..."the Jets clearly have kids who are not up to it playing at the moment". A few of these "kids" were playing for NSWIS last season and should have been blooded into the Youth team during the NYL season. Instead we saw players like Jesic, Ribeiro, Pepper and Regan regularly playing NYL and then at the end of the season we give ourselves a pat on the back and say it was our most successful NYL season because we finished 3rd!
I have no doubts these "kids" will come good, it may take half a season or so but they will get there. They just would have been better prepared if they had a lot more games under their belts playing in the NYL.
