Valentine will be praying for Belswans to win it so they can stay in NBN. Maybe they will then try to Merge with Belswans pmsl
Where the hell do you come up with this merger tripe from"Zico".... you're startin to "ruffle my feathers".
BelSANS have been a single identity and playing at the same location for 78 years! Still going strong, no sign of a merger, stop the bullshit! ........ Why don't Brazil merge with Argentina! Maybe that will help them win another World Cup.

What I find gold is that you and your "mate" Forever-whoever gets on here making statements without any bias/foundation.
I'd really like to know who is behind floating these merger rumours... because that's all they are just rumour and bullshit.
I can tell you for a fact that no-one at BelSWANS thinks that merging or whatever is on the cards. From a Phoenix perspective why would they be interested in merging when the "ground", which I guess all this rumour is about doesn't even fit criteria for NBN standard.

Story I heard at the weekend from a member of their committee was that they are guaranteed to stay in NBN if they stay at Cahill Oval whatever happens

Not so sure, some of the committee I talked to are very worried about relegation. They would love to get a football only ground (that meets the requirements), or get rid of the cricket pitch at Cahill. But neither is going to be easy.

Your right it will not be easy to get rid of the cricket pitch, I think you'll find it will be impossible. It's called Cahill OVAL for a reason. Up the whips!

I wouldn't of thought it would take a great deal to get blacksmiths ground up to NBN standard,
What does it need to meet it?
Is the surface still bumpy?
I know the ground is a good wet weather ground but never been a great surface... The warm up area is the worst around as well.

Yes you are correct with the results. However, all games BelSWANS have played against Mailtand and Adamstown have been very tough and close encounters. BelSWANS did play them both twice in the first 8 games and I believe that the "SWANS" have improved a lot since then.
As I said.... "Season not finished yet! Let's just sit back, "swan" around and see what unfolds...... should be interesting!"...... as will Wednesday night's game!
and.....
I think that winning every other game is going a bit better than "having done well with the rest of the comp."

Hey swan man :-) I thought you would be hoping for a draw or buds win in this one to keep your boys withing striking distance as they are breathing nicely down the necks of the top two ?
That would be some achievement for Maitland to come to the buds and win both games ... Out of interest what do you base your predictions on feather boy ha ha

Looking forward to the contests myself. The crowd may have been larger but I think there are a couple of rescheduled NBN fixtures set down for tonight also which will probably impact.
Yes you're correct a draw in 1sts would be brilliant for the BelSWANS, I'm not sure though.
My predictions are based upon....... birds (Magpies) beats flowers (Rosebuds)....... not really....
There's not much between the two in 1st's, I just think Maitland are a little stronger and a degree more physical.
As for 23's just doing the percentages, although Buds 23's are quality I just have a "feeling in my feathers" that they overdue for a "plucking" and Maitland have the team to upset.

Hmmm big question, wet games always tend to bring abit of unpredictable nature to the contest but seeing as these teams are already quite close if i was an Adamstown player the sense of familiarity with the field would be good.
You'd have to think the 1st grade game would go ahead regardless.

hi there, recently i witnessed a game involvin maitland and thornton. The under 19's fixture was an intense match up, with lots of hype surrounding this. With the maitland under 19's losing one match this season against the redbacks, they looked pumped. With Maitlands Lanky Tall striker scoring a hat trick, set up a 8 - 0 win for the magpies. The lanky maitland striker was dominant against the spohr and hall defence. With The lanky strikers partner in crime playing an important role to help set up many goals. The thornton side had one major possitive to take out of the game. Jai thomson came off the bench and made a large impact. I believe jai will steal the starting role that ben gowdy currently holds. But i am all for the maitland side taking out the premiership, cheers soccerlover

Soccerlover you make a great statement although I was not at this game I was at the Thornton vs maitland game when theses two teams first met and I do agree that Thompson is a key element to the 19s side some poor coaching decisions have cost vital points during the season and the 8 nill loss to magpies side drilled by a young coach who must be outstanding as his side has scored a cracking 22 goals in their last three games ,can hurt their goal difference as Belmont Swansea are hot on there tails. you have a fair point, poor coaching is certainly the redbacks down fall. Thomson needs to lace up the boots more often and get on the pitch. The way he can thread a ball is truelly insperational for all up and coming redbacks ! i am interested for when the redbacks clash with the hornets soon. it will be good to see if Thomson is on the field, and if so, to see if he can tear the defence line of Rossi and Sams apart. cheers soccer lover

Everybody clearly missed my point, if you read my NEXT post i said that i was talking about all teams. This years teams throughout the 19s aren't as high quality as last year. Maitland is hammering everyone much more than last year because generally the teams have dropped off in skill. Especially since people think last years maitland 19s were better than this years.

I was at the Thornton vs cessnock game in round 1 and Thornton had lack of experience to find the net yet missing the post by a millimetre 2 or three times and cessnocks stocky defender clearing a ball of the line so the next game could go either way if the inexperienced Thornton coach plays young Thompson in the starting line up. I have previously played at this club and live in the area and the culture seems to be contagious through out the grades as the whole Thornton club are gelled together nicely.#gomanyou #redbacksruleall any thoughts on why the you magpies side is doing so well socerlover

i believe its because of the vibe rolling around the club, when i was there on sunday, everyone looked to be having a good time, including commitee, not to mention the form of some of the players. The taller of the two strikers (the boy of king?) is doing a sensational job putting them into the back of the net. But also, the magpies midfield line of power and kmetyk are doing a sensational job of playing balls into strikers feet, with the other striker holding the ball up well for king. It will be interesting to watch the pies next time against the redbacks, i believe from a redbacks point of view, it will be ALOT closer of a match up, especially if the coach comes to his senses and give young Thomson a run, cheers soccer lover

Agreed socerlover I am also confused that magpies young coach has not been starting a key winger that has scored many goals this season I'm not sure of his name but his brother plays for Thornton 23s I think is Elliot or Ely or something like that anyway this young player has scored some outstanding goals this season and has been benched for some new unneeded recruits for the young maitland side now consisting of 16 or 17 players ,not sure what's going through the coaches head when they have only dropped 3 points all season #thompson to start on Sunday

Well, I generally fly in for the start of 19's and "SWAN" around until 1st grade finishes. I've seen all teams (Maitland/Cessnock/Thornton) on 2 occasions each so far this season and I think that that Maitland are the best squad by a "long shot". They appear well coached, are mobile and also physical - when needed. They are the team to beat OMHO (as a bird).

This will cause a smile or two I'm sure for some of the older heads around ..... can anyone guess which first grade coach addressed his U19's very recently to inform them it was compulsory to attend, to not watch their 23's and First grade play a washout round, but to be their BALL BOYS...... that was one thing but then to expect them to be standing around on a cold wet evening in nothing other than their training gear took the ridicule to a new level.
I mean seriously... 19's as ball boys is insulting them, esp when they are not even playing that night but then to demand they do it in the rain with a training top on and nothing covering it. Do some clubs actually realise the level of football they are in? It is really so shaming that in a mind week evening washout game first grade players should fetch their ball??? LOL

19s is am interesting competition! Obviously Maitland are the best side in that competition as their results show (22 goals in 3 matches is a fair effort)! Apparently their coach is 22-23 so not much older then the team really so he is obviously doing something right to have the team getting the results they are.
There is heaps of Talent in the side but I got to see a bit of the team last year and individuals may not be quite as good but they are showing improvement which is always good! No good having ability if there isn't a good coach there to develop it.
Would have to agree about that young Eli guy but suppose if you have a team that's winning so well week in week out it would be a bad habit for that young coach to go changing it around surely.
Cessnock, Thornton & Belswans are all good sides from what I've seen but Thornton don't seem to be improving at the same rate as the other sides and Cessnock are just struggling to grind out 3
Points consistently! Belswans are the dark horses but when push comes to shove Maitland should get over them (next week will tell)

I was at the buds game as well yesterday and I thought Adamstown totally dominated (especially 2nd half) and were never in any danger. The Cessnock keeper played a blinder and had the scoreline been 5,6 or seven for the buds then there would have been no complaints.
Also the young 23s won yet again with a convincing display.
Hopefully the weather stays fair and we can get the Adamstown v Maitland games on this week as the 1st grade and 23s matches are going to be crackers i think.

Sorry I have no idea what you are talking about mate. It was a nice day so I sat on the grass over beside my car and did not venture over to the stand yesterday. I was aware that there appeared to be no ball boys/girls yesterday so that may have lead to some confussion.
Regarding the match balls being purposely put away... if that is what you mean (which I am not saying it is) then believe me that would have only been to Cessnocks advantage Ha Ha
They were that far out the game the scoreline is so flattering towards them and in actual fact after they scored I dont even recall them getting over the halfway line to be honest.
Yep Maitland should be good - They seem to be rolling teams over so it will be a real test for the buds.

Agree that I don't think they were 4 goals better on the day. Was not the slickest BelSWANS performance of the season. A few 23's played up and J. Shearer's first hit out of the year plus a couple of positional changes could account for a bit of the performance. I also don't want to make out that these are excusses, the Stags really did pressure at times and continued to play out the whole game, which was admirable. Just think that we had a bit more quality where it counted and seemed to be in control for the most part - an early goal also helps. Sometimes "winning ugly" can be a positive. Anyhow, the next 2 weeks will test our club in all grades and we'll have a better idea of where the comps at by then in first grade.

Who do you mean ? I was judt meaning that in general there are many coaches in the NewFM that could easily coach in the state league and a few that already have experience of the state league.
In my opinion from watching Adamstown for the last few years and based on reports from within and outwith the buds both the 1st grade and 23s coach at Adamstown could easily handle the step up to state league and would most likely bring fresh ideas and I also believe the the Maitland coaching team along with Mr Paul at Belswans would also be a good addition to the state league and offer something
Then you have the Thornton coach who already has NBN experience .

I'm not sure many of the NEWFM Coaches would see it as a positive choice......
Adamstown & Maitland fighting out the premiership so I really can't see Chappie or Maitland's coach walking away from the chance of Promotion
Mr Paul as you say at Belswans is having a great run this season and with Matt playing there this season I couldn't see him leaving
Greg Smith at Westie is getting his young squad better each week and is now in 4th spot and while one of the more experienced and rated coaches in NEWFM why put himself through a relugation battle again this season when he did it last season?
With all repsect I just don't see Bails or McCalister stepping up to that level and MC does not really have a great history at NBN level either.
And Cessnock/Singleton........ you would need to be paying triple the money just to cover petrol expenses.
I am not saying any of the top four are not worthy or unable, I just don't think for them their current positions in the comp make the idea very tempting.

1 - 0 ht to maitland... adamstown down to 10 men. 2 yellows.
1-1. cracking goal to atown. top corner, unstoppable. Atown come out firing with only 10 men.
Atown score winner with 10 to go. Brave header from set piece. 2 - 1 ... I'll leave all the controversial talk to the experts tomorrow- there was plenty.

Atown score winner with 10 to go. Brave header from set piece. 2 - 1 ... I'll leave all the controversial talk to the experts tomorrow- there was plenty.
haha bit of understatement there. I just so happened to be grabbing a carton of chips at the time of the goal/ reversed decision/ no-goal situation and my take on the events were as follows. Ball was cleared off the line (didn't go over the line IMO), a'town players appeal to linesman who makes a small hand gesture to indicate play-on, ref sees this hand gesture towards a'town end and concludes linesman is indicating goal so blows her whistle. Linesman then realises what the ref has done and indicates for the ref to approach him, after their discussion the decision is reversed and a drop ball occurs on the 6 yd line.
From a referee's viewpoint there were a few mistakes made in terms of the officials actions but the correct outcome was found in the end.
Also maito keeper was very lucky to stay on the park with just a yellow after bringing down the a'town striker just outside the box. Other than that can't believe I didn't arrive in time to see this amazing equalizer. Though the winner was very pretty to watch as well.
Keep the long balls short

Well the Adamstown v maitland game certainly lived up to the hype. I must say what an enjoyable game it was and played in great spirit by both teams and what a goal indeed the buds 1st goal was.
Both these teams deserve promotion and on this evidence it may just go down to the last game between both these sides which I think is either the last or second last game. I am sure belswans will think themselves even more in the race now and they will I get the chance to prove their credentials over next few weeks.
You could see how much it meant to both teams on wed night and although I give huge credit to Maitland for there part in a enjoyable game I do think the buds just sheded it and to do so with 10 men makes it an even bigger achievement.
Also watched the 23s game ... WOW , that was a battle and a half and again although you could see what it meant and the improtance of the game both teams played it in the right spirit. I cant recall a more bruising game with so many hard but fair challenges in some time. The buds 23s will no doubt be gutted at losing but it was a great run and they just need to go again. looked like one of teh Maitland players got a really sore one ? anyone know how he is ?

Heard through some boys that the maitland guy in 23s did clean break one of the bones in his leg. Even played on for a minute and walked off the field. Also was told that he refused the ambos to come in and get him as the boys were having the half time chat when they came. What a legend.

Well I know the eastern side of Lake Macquarie is a haven for "my kind", especially around the entrance to the lake. The "flock of birds" that inhabits the area north of the channel known as Blacksmiths has been "roosting" there since 1935, the "others" appeared around 1950 in Swansea. In this time they have evolved into there own species altogether. But at times there is a degree of interchange between the two flocks, which is good and progressive for the for the continued survival of the breed......(que the garbage comments from Zinco and FeverRed now)!

The ref was a control freak and needs to cool down his explanation to players and also stop the "in your face" way he refs but all in all he wasn't that bad in general play. I noticed he over ruled the lino when she flagged for a Maitland penalty. Maitland had enough chances to win the game (including an open goal put over the top and a header cleared off the line) but they were far from their best with the normal passing game being non existent which could be put down to the way Belswans defended and at times out muscled Maitland. Maitland also looked to have a player or 2 missing.
I bet Adamstown are very happy at the moment but it can't be good for the NBN comp to have another inner city club in the comp.

The way the ref got in player's faces was embarrassing...that and his skivy! She was right on the money with that call and she was not a happy thing when he overruled her. I agree they did miss there chances, could have won it easily like Wednesday night against Adamstown. Mate if you have not realised we have actually praised her refereeing, she's a bloody good referee and many would love to have her on the 1st grade game. It's not sexist to say she looks nice and has a way with the boys. She was out there laughing and smiling...even paid herself out when she pointed the wrong way on a foul and then corrected herself. We need more referees of her standard.

WTF???? Well instead of saying how "off" Maitland were and how they were missing players, just say they were beaten by the better team on the day who also missed a lot of chances and also had two regular 1st graders not playing!
Were you there at the game?? Well if you were you could clearly see that Maitland were the better team but didn't take their chances and had a ref who clearly had no clue what was going on and was on a power trip. Yea Belswans won but it was no indication of the game.
Continuing on :
19s-pretty one way for Maitland, Belswans didn't look like scoring. Maitland could have scored more just seemed a little off game today. Coach is doing pretty good with that side. Ref was another female, never seen before but did well for a cruisy game.
23's- both teams put in a good effort. Matland had most of the posession and played it around the park well. Belswans obviously frustrated at times but did well playing the ball but it broke down in the final third. Rahli (seeing Sancho has a problem with 'eye -candy) was hands down ref of the day and the best I've seen this season with her calls.
1st-good game to watch despite the rain in the 23s game taking some toll on the field. Quite physical but both teams played hard. Maitland had majority of possession just couldn't capitalise. Belswans played the ball around and both goals probably should have been saved, obviously Maitland's keeper was having an off day. Ref didn't have much control considering how much he blew the whistle. Don't understand why so many of these refs ignore their ARs though, disappointing to see. The ignored call on a penalty could have changed the game.

Are you on that "one-eyed weed" or what!
BelSWANS up 2-0 at H/T and deservered to be so. Maitland had more control in the 2nd half and came back into the game. As for the so called penalty..... Maitland would have been blowing up deluxe if that was given against them. - no penalty. Maybe she was "influenced" by some obvious silly comments from the paroquial Maitland crowd at that end of the ground.
Blame your keeper for two well slotted goals if you want.
As for saying Maitland were the better team....hahaha. I didn't hear any reports last round from "Maitland forumers" about "stealing" 3 points at Blacksmiths when some may say they didn't deserve it!
Maybe you guys are a little "shell-shocked" from the events of the last week and the two loses - which I can understand but, everyone has to come to terms with loosing at some point of the season!
I've been howled down recently by sanch_theswan for the "speculation" about the much talked about Belswans & VPFC merger but the rumours I'm hearing are getting stronger by the day. My beloved Magic had their game called off so I ventured up to Maitland to watch the game and noticed a VPFC Official at the game. Is the take over getting closer?
I've got to side somewhat with Winner1 on his match report, Belswans fought hard and looked like they wanted the win more against a flat looking Maitland side but I can't see them toppling Adamstown. Maitland should have taken the 3 points but some poor finishing, strong and desperate defending by Belswans kept them out.
Belswans goals were well taken though with the chipped goal first and a perfectly placed 2nd goal across the keeper, who I must should have saved.

Maitland were very unlucky yesterday and deserved 3 points.
Lets be honest Belswans are an awful footballing team and it would be an embarrassment to soccer in Newcastle if they got promoted.

Geez...... what a bunch of sourpusses! After round 8 all the talk was about Maitland and Adamstown (two very well credentialled clubs), then along comes a BelSWAN and put a spanner in the works! After round 14 the talk was that BelSWANS couldn't beat Maitland or Adamstown. After round 15.... quess what the boys beat Maitland and "left them with egg on their faces" (to quote FoereverRed). Now leading into round 16 the talk is we can't beat Adamstown. Maybe we will maybe we won't but in the space of 8 rounds someone is now talking of "an embarrassment to soccer in Newcastle" if BelSWANS get "promoted". How quickly the wheel turns. No-one at BelSWANS has ever spoken about promotion.
Hey Moley.... you're "an embarrassment to FOOTBALL" with comments like that!!!!!

Can I just say well done to belswans on a great result . I was not at the match as people will know my club is the buds so can't comment on the match
But regardless of how Maitland played everyone and there dog knows how difficult a place cooks square is to go and get a result so as far as I am concerned all credit goes to belswans for two reasons
One for their great result in winning away at Maitland and secondly for really coming into contention for the league. Would be interested to see what there current unbeaten run is ?
I will be at the match between belswans and Adamstown at the weekend and can't wait as the more high profile games there are the better it is for the Newfm .
Knowing the coaching team at Adamstown I am 100% convinced that nobody at Adamstown will be taking this game for granted or predicting a Adamstown win and if we do get the 3pts then chappy and his boys will know they are going to have to earn them
Keep the long balls short

Sancho my friend nobody I do not believe anyone at Adamstown has , is or will big up Adamstown and claim the league is won or has done during the last 16 rounds as football can change in a heart beat as this week has shown .
A game of football is won on the park and not talking of it and currently belswans are doing there talking on the park and perhaps Maitland were doing a little to much off it ?
Just my opinion and not wanting to upset the Maitland guys as they have a great club
just that we have been hearing this season is that Maitland are the team to beat and perhaps that might still end up the case and they will win the comp but they have left themselves a lot of hard work now

sancho_theswan is one who blows his own trumpet or that of his club more than any other person on this forum.
Like mentioned earlier by another person, sancho_theswan will soon be turning people off Belswans like they were turned off Awaba by the other bloke a while ago.
Zico you must be one grumpy sod.
All I see is a man who has great passion for his club and good on him for it.
Maybe the goose is the one doing the constant stirring about Belswans merging with Phoenix.
SANCHO THE SWAN Keep up the good work.
Your postings bring this thread to life and keep it interesting.
Maybe more Sancho less Zico
