not sure if it was the same tackle, but one tackle by a korean (second half, broadcast side of the field, kuwaiti attacking half near the half way line) looked like a shocker where i was sitting and he only got a yellow for it. anybody able to give an opinion?

Yep, they seemed to not get the concept of it on foxsports last night. They go through top because who ever wins out of Saudis and Uzbeks can only finish level if China lose to Nth Korea. But in this comp it goes on head to head before goal difference. So because china beat both Saudis and Uzbeks, it doesn't matter who wins that game.

China looked very good in that second half. Don't know if its because they are good or Uzbeks were just bad.

I've paid barely any attention to that page ever, but after reading that I have happily clicked unlike. Whoever runs that page (or at least, whoever posted that Iran stuff), I hope you're reading this - you're a disc race. Esad.

Every Iranian supporter I encountered were great people and were just happy to be there. They filled my train at Hornsby and were excited, vibrant yet still polite at all times. One of the guys on my carriage was king of the selfie stick, which got a bit annoying but apart from that I have nothing but glowing things to say about all the fans I saw.

In regards to them saying the Iran players play-act and dive and stuff - I thought Qatar were the main culprits at that last night. But anyway..

Iran look like they are going to be very tough to beat. They seem to have the best defence in the comp and are pretty handy up front, kid who scored the goal looks very good.
UAE look good too but i don't think they have overall quality. That number 10 is going to be a pretty special player though.

Japan, Iran and Australia really do just look a class above the rest. As good as some individual players are in other teams, i just cannot see any team but one of these three winning the final.

I reported the page. It only has 100 odd likes so it'd be no great loss if it does get taken down. I expect whoever runs it will be upset, but that's about it.

As much as I loved the atmosphere and crowd of Iran, I wasn't overly impressed with their team tbh. When (if) Australia play against them, I can see us out-muscling them something fierce - Qatar did a decent enough job of it last night. We look WAY more lethal attacking-wise than they do. I'll tip a relatively cruisy victory for us if we get drawn against them.

Japan are a different story IMO - I'm scared of them.

You're not wrong - Japan weren't tested v Palestine.

There were times they could have played pretty lethal balls out wide, but treated it like a training run and tried to force the ball into areas of high-pressure to work on their one-touch plays, tiki-taka stuff. They were just casually testing their limits v Palestine, whilst avoiding injury.

If Australia lose to Korea and finish 2nd in their group, but then advance to the Semi-Finals is the match guaranteed to be played in Newcastle or is there some by-rule I have yet to find which allows them to switch the venues? I have seen this occur in other tournaments around the world to ensure the host nation plays in the larger stadium in the preferred timeslot.

It's not that far off the same feeling that you would have if you went into a coma and woke up 6 months later to find Sam Gallaway captaining Real Madrid.

+1. But somebody mentioned earlier that the organisers could move such a high-profile match elsewhere. Maybe swap the semi finals?

They do this and they can shove their AC up their arse...people all over the country buying tix for this game, it doesn't happen in any other competition and Japan will have something to say about increasing home advantage and ruining their planning.

Only Cat 1 and Cat 2 tix left as of this morning. Surely they must consider opening the hills and selling another 7000 tickets to the plebs? I know it is against policy though.

Also - will only rate us 50/50 to get past China, they'll be tough and the Suncorp surface is already playing on the Socceroos minds and will be a leveller. China have won two games there already too.

I don't think Ange got his tactics wrong at all.

The possession stats and territory shots on goal and all the key indicators of dominance were in the Socceroo favour other than the one that matters the scoreboard.

I think Ange was spot on to leave the likes of Timmy Kruse Leckie out and give others a go. In 18-24 months time we will be playing a WCQ against a Japan Korea Iran etc. Last night proved to me we can compete and can win that game. Our side will be further improved in 18-24 months time also and the only things that hurt us last night were poor marking and concentration at the back and a lack of composure in front of goal. On another night we get one two three past the keeper and we are all hailing our side today.

Them the breaks. Despite losing last night I feel we gained more from it than we would have by winning. We are not far away from hitting our straps as a side and I feel so confident about Russia and not only that I feel giving a decent draw there we can get somewhere like in 2006

correct if we win next 2 or it was the start of the slide from poor decisions if we lose.

Ange gambled on a game that we could afford to lose.

overall i have been a little disappointed in the gap between the top 16 teams. unlike Euro where the teams and games are more of a contest.

Some close results dont account for the domination on the pitch eg jap 1-0.

We were at the Brisbane game as well and the heat was woeful. It was bad enough sitting in the stadium no breeze or anything let alone running around in it. Reality is the banking systems are a shemozzle. In Brazil my card would work in one machine but not the one next to it despite it being in the same bank.

I found one bank who would take my card and in the next town they wouldn't.

So the shit is already being heaped on Newcastle and the Asian Cup Committee for giving us an Asian Cup Semi Final...

Here's the article in the SMH (11pm 18/1/15)

"Socceroos Asian Cup semi-final won't be moved to Sydney despite Hunter Stadium limitations"

A potential Asian Cup semi-final involving Australia appears certain to remain in Newcastle instead of Sydney despite Hunter Stadium's already limited capacity being reduced by nearly a third for the tournament.

The Asian Football Confederation has an exclusive tenancy deal with Stadium Australia for the duration of the tournament and would be free to move a high-profile semi-final involving the host nation to the 83,000 capacity venue. The local organising committee in conjunction with the AFC have not looked into the possibility of moving a semi-final involving the Socceroos to Stadium Australia to accommodate up to 60,000 more fans in what would likely be a sell-out fixture.

After finishing second in their group to South Korea, Australia will play China in the quarter-final where they will have a chance to play either Japan, Iran or the UAE in a semi-final held at Newcastle, where capacity restrictions are in place. In accordance with FIFA World Cup regulations, the AFC have so far prevented the local organising committee from selling tickets to the two non-seated hills behind the goals at Hunter Stadium, which reduces the capacity of the venue from 33,000 to approximately 23,000.

Should the two organising committees of the tournament move a potential Australia semi-final to ANZ Stadium, it would likely provide the local organising committee about $500,000 in additional gate takings as well as the opportunity to allow more fans to watch a historic match. However, the short turnaround of just five days between the quarter-final and the semi-final are proving a deterrent to moving what could be the biggest match of the competition, a potential clash between Australia and Japan, or Australia and Iran.

The local organising committee claims it would be a logistical nightmare to rearrange issues of ticket exchanges, broadcasting, travel arrangements, accommodation, staff and other requirements in just five days.

Questions have been raised as to why the Hunter Stadium - the smallest stadium by capacity for the tournament - will host potentially the most high-profile match of the Asian Cup. The state governments were invited to bid for games in packages, with NSW purchasing the rights for all semi-finals, the third v fourth play-off and the Asian Cup final. The Victorian government did not bid for anything further than a quarter-final due to hosting the Australian Open, which clashes with the latter stages of the Asian Cup. The Queensland government did not battle NSW for the rights to host the final four games of the tournament.

"We had an agreement with governments that we would have a rotating draw so teams travelled, that was fundamental to the funding agreement. We made a decision to take 4 games to Newcastle, and we had 11 at Sydney, as NSW paid the most money to have the games at this tournament," Asian Cup 2015 chief executive, Michael Brown, said.

It was decided not to host more than 11 games at ANZ Stadium due to venue congestion and the organisers confirmed they did not plan for Australia to finish second in their group and face playing a semi-final in Newcastle. However, if Australia does reach that stage, the local organising committee might construct temporary seating on the hills behind both goals to increase the capacity for a match where demand will exceed supply.

"We're looking at every option for the two grass areas at Newcastle we can put temporary seating on. We're working with a couple of companies to work out costs, food, toilets, disabled seating, sight restrictions, and we have to work out if it's going to be beneficial. We'll be working through that, I'm not sure if we would have needed them if Australia doesn't beat China," Brown said.

That we loose 3000 seats to Media.....etc OK but 11000 seats / admissions it's unheard of. Not only there was a good chance that Australia would finish second in their group and can now only play in front of 22000, but imagine if China win the quarter and play here their semi in front of 22000!!! As I said in an earlier post if only 5% of China watch the game it equates to ~ 65000000 yes ~ 65M Chinese watching. It was reported that their game V Saudi Arabia was watched by 160000000 yes 160M (~7 times the population of Australia)!!! And if they play Japan then probably another ~20000000 could be watching. Nice touch but after dealing with the ethics of ticket swapping/sale for the WC mate you are more than entitled to get cost back.

That is the ethically fair position on the subject and you don't have to undersell it to part ways with it.
I think you will find if it is Australia V Japan you will have no issues getting cost anyway which you are more than entitled to

there is several thousand kept aside for AFC exco members and sponsors. also a fair chunk of seats for media. so a sell out still looks pretty empty when all of them don't turn up. i don't think i've seen more than 100 AFC people in the stand at canberra at any match.

Sponsors and the AFC head honchos on the junket I would have thought would have been out in force for what was a blue chip match.

There were also plenty available in the corners and in the stand the Main TV Camera was located on.

Now assuming a few got legitimate reasons ie they died or missed flight to Brisbane or something else for no showing the amount of empty seats would indicate they called it as sold out early when it were not really sold out

Bay 41 is dead smack behind the goals on the Southern Hill. Probably has to do with the advertising boards or the fact the goals themselves block the rest of the field from view.

not sure what your point is - last night they had an 18000 crowd, fair proportion of whom were chinese, but apparently the ambassador bought 3000 tickets and gave them away. stands were half empty behind the goals...

Talking about TV.....TV footage, does not look good in a semi when behind goal posts it's grass area and half empty!!!!!...... FFS we r now in the 21st century, hill and grass area are from prehistory time

Sponsors and the AFC head honchos on the junket I would have thought would have been out in force for what was a blue chip match.

There were also plenty available in the corners and in the stand the Main TV Camera was located on.

Now assuming a few got legitimate reasons ie they died or missed flight to Brisbane or something else for no showing the amount of empty seats would indicate they called it as sold out early when it were not really sold out

i reckon they are there, just out the back gorging on the free booze and food.

Anyone know why the "restricted" seats are restricted view? I bought my tickets months ago and am in Bay 41 row A for 3 v 4, and Bay 41 row C for the semi. Some **** from ticketek rang me the other day and said the seats for 3 v 4 are restricted view so they moved me to bay 60 but mentioned nothing of the semi. Is it cause of those stupid ****ing advertising fences that sit a few metres inside the normal fence?

it will be interesting having to sit in a ticket seat.

Dam, would have liked Iran to fall into the quarter final against Japan. One of the biggest would go before semifinal time.

UAE the jets of the Asian cup. 60% possession, 500 completed passes to about 200 for Iran and yet still less balls into the area and less shots at goal hahaha

Nice touch but after dealing with the ethics of ticket swapping/sale for the WC mate you are more than entitled to get cost back.

That is the ethically fair position on the subject and you don't have to undersell it to part ways with it.
I think you will find if it is Australia V Japan you will have no issues getting cost anyway which you are more than entitled to
Not going to hold people ransom for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

And for those interested it's still available although there has been plenty of interest with two firm bids (geez I feel like this is Football Manager)

In all honesty when I see that picture I cringe.
Whilst it does look fantastic, it's far to big for us, the end terraces do not need to be double tier.
What we need is the lower terrace of both the East and West stands to be joined up by having seating where the hills are. Where the corners in the Western Stand end now is high enough it just needs to continue around on both hills to join the Eastern Stand with coverd seating.

While I'd be happy with the single tier, what is wrong with going for a bigger stadium and get bigger events?

Lens has a population of 250,000 now and has a 40,000 capacity stadium.

The pictured stadium in Newcastle could get an annual NRL final, Socceroos match , Super 14 and any number on concerts - if it had the facilities.

Been saying this for years that we need a 12000 to 15000 football built stadium that we can fill out every week and create a real Jets culture at and tough if we then have the odd week that we could have sold 20000 tickets . What venue's are available ? Magic Park anyone LOLNewcastle council, FFA, Jets and Northern should join forces with the AFL, Cricket Australia & Athletics Australia to loby State and a Federal Government to make a Newcastle Sporting Complex at National Park.
If you move the Croquett next to Lowlands bowling club it would free up a large amount of space.
Upgrades to No1 New Grandstand for AFL & Cricket, Leave No2 as is for the Rara, brand new Football specific Stadium for the Jets and give the Athletics Track a face lift.
Build a large Free Car Park complex with a Bus interchange that could be useful for people who work in the city, Car Park and Bus Interchange would then be sufficient for Major Events and Match day's.

Pretty F'ing simple but this is Newcastle.
So first you would need to do a study that would take at least 5 year's then you need a study on the previous study. After all that you would have to get past all the legal proceedings that the tree huggers and hippies that became lawyers throw at you. Once all that is done you would have to wait until an election comes around so either side of the pollies can promise the funding for it from the selling off of some asset, only to be then with drawn after the Awabacal land coucil cliams the land is of cultural significants and the plans sit idle for the next 2 years until the next election comes around.

To me the ideal site would be to kick EDI off their site at Cardiff and build there for the day the Glendale interchange gets built somewhere next millenia

The match day experience is far more enjoyable when the stadia is located in the CBD, something that is drivig popularly in the MLS is having Stadia located in the respective Cities Central Hub's.

You only have to look at Gold Coast and ANZ to see what happens when you put a Stadium in the middle of nowhere. Pubs and restaurants pre and post game benefit from it and match day becomes a day out rather than just a day at the Football.

Where will we drink if it's at Glendale? Argy Pub?

No Rail into the city any more. City venues work when you have access in there.
No **** goes into the CBD now let alone with little parking available and the now even more so lack of public transport

Cardiff RSL/Cardiff Wests Iron Horse etc would be easy walking distance if they ever built the Interchange and associated roadworks over the train line there at Glendale connecting the industrial area at Cardiff to the Glendale SuperCentre etc

So there will a few thousand more tickets made available this week across all categories. Cue the irate complaints about single buying CAT 1 tickets. You can't please everyone.

Second ticket release on way for Newcastle Asian Cup semi By CRAIG KERRY Jan. 20, 2015, 10 p.m

ASIAN Cup officials have ruled out erecting temporary seating at Hunter Stadium to boost capacity for a potential semi-final blockbuster between Australia and Japan, but more tickets for next week’s game are on the way.

The match appeared sold out on Ticketek on Tuesday afternoon, but Asian Cup communications general manager Alison Hill said ‘‘a few thousand’’ more tickets, available across all categories, would be released later this week.

Hill said an allocation of tickets for every team and their sponsors is kept in reserve until after the pool games. The unused tickets are then released to the public.

Hill said the tickets for Tuesday’s game could be available as early as Friday but advised those interested to check the Asian Cup website and social media feeds for updates.

The stadium’s reduced capacity of about 23,000 has caused consternation since a match-up of the Asian Cup favourites became likely after Australia’s 1-0 loss to South Korea on Saturday night.

Hunter Stadium holds 33,000, but Asian Football Confederation policy dictates that tickets can be sold only for seats.

The AFC has come under pressure to sell tickets for the two grass hills, but the Herald has been told they are unlikely to change their position, and Hill confirmed the local organising committee had ruled out temporary seating.

‘‘The cost of doing it and the time needed to get it in is prohibitive,’’ Hill said.

Hill reaffirmed the Asian Cup’s commitment to Newcastle and said the game would not be moved.

‘‘Regardless of capacity, this will leave an enormous legacy for football in Northern NSW to have this game there. It’s just fantastic.’’

Its a shame the Jets Season Ticket is a plastic card as no one would ever want to rub them on their nipples though.

For all the use they are to you they would substitute quite well for rubbing over your arsehole to wipe your arse. The Plastic card would not be pleasant sensation though and it would not be advisable to sniff your card either.

Stiff shit to those buying tickets in the last week for the semi and having limited options.

The things have been available for the best part of 6 months.

It ain't like the opportunity wasn't there earlier

My only concern is if for some reason they "police" the hills this game. I have no problem paying for the extra ticket for my young fella, just want him to be able to sit with me on the hill. To be honest I didn't really want him there for all 4 games because he probably would have been bored. Once first game was done and you could sit on the hill I bought him a ticket for semi straight away.

Will be ok they've said you can sit on the hill, but everyone needs to buy a seated ticket.

Game Day Fire the Fark Up ****s

How ****ing good is it to actually be excited to actually have a cut throat do or die clash to watch tonight that actually matters??

The 90 mins (maybe more) of tension and drama tonight as your emotions rise and fall as the game unfolds are exactly why this game is numero uno on the planet and no other sport can ****ing compete.

How ****ing good is it???

It's great. I'm really keen for tonight. I was at HS and went home and watched the game after, not following the ritual of the previous 2 games. I'll be following that ritual again tonight - same clothes, same seat, scarf and beer.

I would rather we played with 10 men that have that Wilkinson bloke on the pitch. Matter of fact we already are we just have his Chaos to deal with

Uzbeki's giving it a real crack. Aussies might be glad they avoided them.
