Turner might reunite with a few of his old Lakes buddies at Maitland as well

The lakes team that turner helped to get promoted would all be player o35's wouldn't they?

Technically can clubs approach players as the season is still in progress?

Highly unethical in my book for clubs to do this. But it is part of the game.

Northern are chasing certain clubs & their grounds already for games to be played mid next week. Understandably it has rained for the best part this week however does also come down to clubs investing funds into their facility i.e drainage

Weston have a good following and grand finals always draw some people regardless.
Northern already planning to replay at least the First Grade fixtures mid next week should they be washed out so Weston & Jets won't automatically qualify.

Azzurri very lucky.
Edgy defender virtually kicked the ball out of their keepers hands and blues pounced!
Next one was a big deflection.

Lucky goals in a relatively even game.

22s: Jaffas 2-1 over southy. Southy with a good goal early. Nice free kick from Webster to make it 1-1. Then a goal from a long shot out of nowhere seemed to catch everyone by surprise.
Can't say Jaffas deserved that today, but southy did themselves no favours with their lack of respect for the ball.

No i do like Weston ... i think Shane and his volunteers have set a very high level of professionalism for the NPL many clubs should be aiming for, i would hate for that hard work to be jeopardised by bogan tactics on the football field. Going down to 10 men could mean the dif between lifting the cup or elimination.

haha,
Cracks me up these reliable sources.

Also cracks me up that people think Kevin Davison whos dad is assistant coach at Jaffas would leave a team that came 3rd to a team that is down towards the bottom of the table and losing Abe Wheelhouse, Mason Palmieri, Matt Comerford, Nick Bale, Sean Matthews. Wow that would really be a career move for a young guy!

Sessions to Adamstown, even more stupid because of the above reasons and given him and Tanch are good mates away from soccer.
Adamstown go for him every year, as so Olympic but just embarrass themselves.

I know Olympic are like a desperate begger in getting Fajkovic, he hasn't played much at Jaffas anyway, but rumours are Dino said he would never play for Olympic again after a fallout with Committee and Bolchy in the past.
Magic are just as desperate to land Bradbury, after watching him yesterday im not sure they will still want him!

I would be more worried about the rumours out of Olympic for Bolchy, I mean Wannabe.
After missing out on the semis and losing the players below, could be disasterous!

Surprised at that tbh, Jesse's good, but I wouldn't say he was 1st grade material as yet, not even on the bench for the Jets games I've seen this year. Plus their current 22s keeper isn't too bad either :whistling:

Good summary, from the start it looked like Jaffas had the edge, CCB have a few guys who struggle. Left and right back were dodgy at times and their number 8 in the centre of the park was very average. Boys up front did OK apart from some missed chances.
Jaffas defended a few scrambles in the box really well, brave.
Not a bad game though. Jaffas deserved to win, no question.

Edgy scored cracking own goal in the 19's to go down 1-0 after dominating the Jets

Thought the U22's was a cracker of a game.

Jets were good value in the game against the Minor Premiers and equalised almost immediately after conceeding. Ended up going to pens first were both converted before Olympic missed 3 straight Jets missed the 3rd before the 4th was converted for a 3-1 win on pens

First grade Weston were deserved winners. Jets spent far too much time standing off Evans and Cowburn all day letting them play.
After taking a lead after a few mins from a Kantarovski header at the near post from a corner the Jets were pegged back when Solari DECIDED TO DIVE for a routine save and went over the ****ing ball. Cracking **** up right off the top shelf. Birraz would be chuffed and hopefully Solari is phased by it

Jets scored right after half time through Tommy Waller who toe poked home from a yard out after butchering a better chance by hesitation at first allowing the keeper to some how get something on it when he wasn't entitled to.

After that the jets sat back on the lead and held Weston at bay despite them having the better of play the Jets had a glorious chance to go 3-1 up when a McDonald header from a Lundy cross was headed on to the bar after the keeper got something on it.

Weston kept coming and got a penalty for a foul on Evans. Wasn't 100% convinced but being 100 yards away was in no position to say it was right or wrong.

Pen was smashed into the cross bar and away

Jets went up the other end a short time later and an audacious chip cleared the keeper clipped the underside of the bar and stayed out.

Weston equalised with a near post header from a corner with about 12 mins to go.

About 5 mins later the Bears took the lead when Ryan was found unmarked on the back post from a cross and he headed home.

Jets started to push again for the equaliser but Weston hung on.

As for Cowburn the bloke proceeded to stand over Solari and give Solari the big ones whilst on the ground after his howler instead of celebrating with his teammates.

Can see why people have little time for him

They did finish 1 and 2 but I watch edgy beat Weston early on in the year and thought they should of done better, magic should of done better as should of jaf jaf with the cash cash so maybe red has a point. Maybe not the 2 best teams but they did finish in the 2 best spots.
A massive lost for Southy was the experience that Piggott has and how he was able to pass that on to the Weston boys. With an inexperience coach at Weston I don't think they finish top 2.

I think for Weston it came down to the fact that they were probably the #1 club able to hold onto their full team from last year and in addition gain a few new players around those guys that complimented the squad. Most other teams had a big shake up in their squad, so i think now that we've had the first year of the new system everyone else will overtake in the following years since IMO Weston aren't that great to watch but you know what you're going to get from the boys they have and they're used to playing with each other.

A very good point, a team of loyal players, unheard of generally. The jaf jaf have a player who is 22 yet has played first grade with 4 clubs. The point system will sort some of this out.

Any reports on the game?

Finished 4-3 to Jaffas

Absolute classic Jets performance. The first half they jagged a goal with a screamer of an effort from Finlayson completely against the run of play 10 mins in

After that they proceeded to concede 4 goals in abut 15 mins. All started when someone deflected a free kick in and wrong footed Solari. After that Solari butchered a shot to get caught out on his near post. Then a header from a corner and then Jobe drilled home after being able to run to the top of the box unopposed

To be perfectly honest the scoreline of 4-1 at HT was a disgrace. The Jets were that far off the mark in effort and committment the 1 was a ****ing injustice regardless of its quality.

Aimed up a bit better in the second half and made a contest of it. Lundy scored another pearler to make it 4-2 with abut 20mins to go. Jaffas hit the post and the Jets ended up making it look interesting when they scored with a few mins to go. Jaffas held on

Not knocking the Jaffas but the performance of the Jets was ****ing piss poor in the first half and basically handed the opportunity to take a sizable lead to the jaffas on a platter.

The bullshit from the Technical Director needs to be looked at when you are developing kids whose entire development places no value in getting stuck in and having a go and showing defensive discipline cause it is all about 5000 passes to no one

Jonty
06-09-2014, 06:23 PM
Chill out mate, so much aggression. 'Effort' and 'committment' was not the problem from what I saw - it was the system IMO.

I was VERY surprised the jets went with the 5-man backline again. It worked beautifully in the 2-1 win a few weeks back because it completely blindsided Jaffas, as mentioned by their coach in the paper the other day. But they've had about a month to think about how they'd deal with it and frankly, they were well prepared for it this time round.

Going against their usual game and parking the bus from minute 1 and letting Jaffas have 80% of the ball was a big mistake IMO and it showed at HT. 4-1 after ~34 minutes and the damage was done. For me, in the first half the defence resembled witches hats and the poor blokes in midfield (all 2 of them) were chasing shadows and marking 2 players each without getting much help from the defence the entire first half. Jaffas did have a bit of luck though - the first goal was an own goal where the defender stuck a leg out and wrong footed the keeper and the 4th goal was a shot from outside of the box which the defenders did not close down and took a heavy deflection wrong footing the keeper again. Not taking anything away from their victory, just thought that was noteworthy.

From their point of view, I was pleased with the way the jets kids fought in the second half. They seemed to do away with the bus parking immediately and actually played the football which got them to #1 this year. Fair play to them. They could have kept their heads down and without any change could easily have been 7 or 8. But no, they got stuck in, salvaged some pride by winning the second half and made Jaffas sweat right til the end. Would have been interesting if the jets kids had a licence to play as they usually do from minute 1.

In any case, on the balance of the game - Jaffas too good overall and deserved their victory. Looking forward to the GF next week, should be a belter.

On a side note - if they didn't get stuck in and have a go, it could have been a cricket score.

Usually you never have any problems getting a park because Edgy don't usually draw a crowd

So like that is a decent enough reason to give it to them.

The facilities there are piss poor and I reckon the crowd will easily be down big time on what they have been getting at Magic the last few years.

Those who do go will think twice about going next time when they see the shambles that parking/ getting away from there will be.

Thing should be at Magic every ****ing year

Back in the day Speers Point was the home of GFs - and it was big enough to take everybody's cars as well! Some momentous days there.

It needs some lovin though that place.

My favourite ground for a grand final other than Magic is Lakes. Although I do love Edgy's ground - the facilities are arguably not top shelf (but I don't consider them bad in the slightest) but I've never heard a complaint about the playing surface before tbh.

GO AWAY is right though - Lyall Peacock looks absolutely (and quite opposite to usual!) amazing right now.

Actually hope that with the facility going in at Speers Point that given time Northern might look to include the ground there as the centrepiece of the facility. ie get another government handout and build a facility of note there.

Either that or hope Lakes fall over and they can pick it up on the cheap:whistling:

We forget what an icon it was back then - grand finals, the old Tasman Cup in its prime, remember watching Glasgow Rangers there once and the Socceroos played few games as well. Even KB United played a game there.

Early thoughts on G/F Sunday. I think if Wheelhouse plays Jaffas might just win. Don't know if Weston having the week off may have stalled their recent form.

What does people make of the quote by sessions in the paper today? I personally believe having watched Evans this season he is the best player in the comp by a bit of a margin. How doesn't the jets look at somebody like this. Sessions is gunna wanna have a good game otherwise he will be left with egg on his face.

Have you spoken to anybody that has played there?
Played there a few times and its mostly Soft and spongey and somehow wet despite not having rained in weeks. And when it's rained recently it's terrible. If it rains again before the weekend, it'll be slosh. Similar to Azzurri in the way that after a bit of rain, you just sink into the pitch, and you can see heel divets everywhere. Probably worst pitch in the comp after a bit of rain. Daresay worse than Jaffas.

I have no dramas with the facilities, though. As much as i dislike the club, they've put effort in and constructed a new stand, done up around the ground, scoreboard etc. Getting there. I don't really have a problem with them having it as they've gotten stuck in and done some work to their facilities.

Hopefully they've given it a bit of TLC throughout the year, knowing they had the GF.

Do edgeworth have the best facilities? Not by far.

Are they the best ran club club? lol nope.

But you can't keep bashing an organisation that is trying to improve. As much as they can be trouble. They seem to be actively trying to fix things around the club and improve the facilities.

The Jets lovers, magic supporters etc love to bash them and so do i. But at the end of the day they are trying to improve unlike some clubs. I think it is a stroke of long term genius by northern to give the GF to them. Hopefully it spurs on other clubs to improve.

This form has been poor over the last weeks. Everyone bashing edgy. I think everyone is fully aware of their faults. Surely there is somthing else better talk about?

No reason why Northern, lakes and Jets can't work together and fix the facilities up, improve the surface and have Lakes and Jets Youth play out of there along with Northern using it for the GF and Jets playing a few games out of it here and there. It could be to football what No2 is to Union with a bit of $$$ and Cooperation.

Obviously Sessions is trying play mind games here, nobody that has seen him this year can genuinely believe Connor isn't a talented player. I'd say it is a rather weak attempt to unsettle him.

When Connor is on he is near unplayable will be an interesting day for him. Even if Lambton play him out of the game there are other players like McDermott and Ryan (most likely from the bench) who can contribute and obviously Jaffas have their own dangerous players too. Looking forward to see how the game pans out!

Usually the team to beat is the one with the best defence. Both of them are pretty poor really. FFS Jaffas have let in 7 goals in 3 semis and Weston have let in 4 in 2 semis so neither of them are in great form there

I am thinking if Jaffas can defend on the day better than they usually do they win as they have the greater fire power up front to get the goals.

From what I've seen of both teams this season, I live away these days so I only get the BAR TV games,it looks like the Bears to me. It ain't a fight or a footrace, so big and fast won't be good enough and big and slow won't be either. It's a game of football and the Bears play it much better than the Jaffas, if they didn't have Danny Ireland they wouldn't even be part of the discussion

Is Kale 100% done as I heard that he might have been going to Sydney to play .

what about the other clubs . Having watched a bit of Maitland I am not sure they will have to strengthen that much as got a good team already and Weston never seem to lose players so they will likely build on what they already have.

I seen Azzuri a few times and I think they will be the underdogs for next year.
