Been awhile since Ive watched a terrace game but got they seemed aweful today, they seemed half the team I watched earlier in the year against olympic, Stockton created enough chances and more to deserve the 3.0 win, If it wasnt for the terrace keeper it could of been a few more. For the terrace they missed a couple they should of scored but the only positive they could of taken out of that game was that it ended.

Stocko v terrace result on SP is wrong if anyone wants to fix it up.
Also I think terrace might fall back a bit. Only because they have some tough games ahead. Losing Lez hurts as well as the other fella from a shoulder reco from what I heard on the weekend? He pretty much runs the front third. They have some points on the board though so it's up to everyone else to keep bagging 3 points.

Our last three games are mereweather, charlestown and medowie, Id like to think we have done enough to finish in the 4.Pressure will b on the teams around us.
We havnt missed lez at all , we lost 1 game with him and lost 2 without him and scored somethen like 25 goals since he left.
We always knew this was a tough run playing muss, stockton, bero and hamilton in a row mid season.

Next two games against bero and hamo. Hence why I said tough games. Also was only saying from what I've played against. You guys always seemed dangerous coming forward. Then based on the weekend I think u missed a clinical striker and now taking your best playmaker out it may be tough. I know u guys were missing some players however. And true it's always better to have the points on the board. Going to be a really tough finish for everyone. Personally I'd hope we have a top 4 position wrapped up by the last round as everyone finds it tough heading up to bero for a win. Time will tell though

Yeh like u guys say it'd be discussions at the end of the year i guess. I know a heap of clubs struggle when it comes to fielding a 3rd grade side. We have a few very keen boys who still play NBN but just wanted us to climb the ladder a little and are real keen for next year. Also we run a fri night all age team as our sort of "3rd grade" side. Plus we have a few extra numbers in our ressies this year too. It would be tough to turn down knowing you have to risk another year in ZL2 not knowing if youll get the chance again I guess.

Lol yeah? Straight up from 3s? All I know is the thought had never crossed my mind with myself being 1 of the 3 that would've made that decision. Can't speak for the other 2.
We introduced a Friday night team this year with the thought process being that just in case we need it for next year it'd be easier to fill a 3rd side, but there'd be some holes to fill. And also that I'd be able to play Fridays and kick people.
It'd be interesting to see what your view on the promotion side of things go. You get first, you guys going up?

Yeah I heard that off 2 of your boys then a 3rd reaffirmed a few points without going into it as much and personally I hope if we win that we do but I saying that we always struggle for numbers as proven last year but new coach this year new players at the club so anything is possible but we are trailing you guys ATM and have all the work to catch up and I think if we don't get out of this rut will struggle to make the 4

Lol we've got a squad full of dreamers. No chance we were ready to go straight up. No chance we were going up. Now though, maybe. As I said earlier we'd need a few more players to commit. We'll see.
You guys have a thousand all age sides surely numbers aren't the problem.

This is a huge point you've brought up Wilso. The ZL2 comp (and all the ZL comps for that matter) are pretty evenly contested and I don't think there's a whole lot between each team. Last year I thought Olympic had by far the best squad and didn't make the finals. This year you've got two teams from ZL3 come up and are discussing potential promotion. And while 2 of the top 4 from last year got promoted, it still is crazy that potentially there will be 4 brand new teams in the semis.
IMO what you need in ZL2 is a good run of injury-free period, and a bit of help from the refs at times (because let's face it, the refs have been the deciding factor in many games), and you've got the comp wrapped up. But I would take every possible opportunity to claim promotion when I could (if I could, numbers-wise) because there's no guarentee your players will stick around or the injury and ref situtation will be the same for you the year after.
You look at ZL2 last year and every single club I talked to apart from Jesmond, said Jesmond were getting results way better than the football they played deserved. They ground teams out, and convinced no one, but still somehow managed to get top 2. And as I said before, you had Olympic who were the standout for me and they didn't even make the finals. It's a weird comp.
I've seen Barnsley and Terrace win ZL2 and then be a powerhouse in ZL1. Jesmond are going pretty good in ZL1 atm. I don't really see the step-up in quality to be that big (if you can retain and/or improve your squad a bit), it's just a matter of being that "lucky" club to get promoted.
If you have the numbers and similar or better squad quality, and are offered promotion, I genuinely think you're crazy not to take promotion.
Wilso8948
11-07-2014, 08:27 AM
Finally. We have some quality conversation in this thread lol. I agree. I think you would take promotion no question
It's hard enough managing 30 lunatics from 'stoko'. I dunno if I could handle another 15! But then again I guess 'stoko are da bomb'
But yeah mad not to take it. Say yes. Gather numbers later. Not that we struggle. But even if you don't get them just pull out days before the comp starts like everyone else seemed to do at the start of this season.
Having said that I don't think we will be talking promotion over here on the peninsula this season. Scrape into the four would be a great effort for us! Very happy so far considering the aim was non relegation this season and winning a game!

Keeping players is always going to be the issue when it comes to Mussy going up to ZL1. By the time State Cup cup rolled around this year we only had 4 First Graders left from our Grand Final side last year. And this wasn't from people leaving for other clubs. There are only a handful that can commit to more than a single year playing here due to shift work and working visas.
If we had kept all the players that left last season and still picked up the quality that we have this year, I believe we would have been a decent chance had we taken the promotion but as it stands now the gap between our Ressies and Firsts is just too large and we just wouldn't have had the depth there to compete.
Our geographical local leaves us at a disadvantage also. When Macquarie teams get promotion they rarely have difficulty fielding a class team as there are plenty of players willing join from other clubs just for the opportunity to play a higher division (See Jesmond). We are not so lucky. If we lose players, we have to rely on our youth coming through. This has at times been a disaster which has seen us fall down into ZL3 but other times it has paid off as it may do this year.
So to the untrained eye, it may appear that Mussy just enjoy hovering in ZL2 but realistically we do push and make the serious considerations to play ZL1 football. It's just a pain in the arse when the team has to be rebuilt year after year.

Yep, as you know I keep a close watch on you Mussy boys and honestly I applauded you guys for rejecting promotion, solely because of the huge player&committee turnover you had. ZL1 could have proved to be a gigantic struggle for you guys this season.
I also had my doubts due to the player turnover how Westlakes would go when they jumped at the offer of promotion. But from all reports in the ZL1 thread, they're doing the club proud with fighting till the death of every game. But maybe they're not getting the results they should - I don't know, I've watched barely any of their games this season.
Like I said though, any team with similar or improved squads would be crazy to reject it IMO.

Ressies another good game with terrace taking the lead twice but bero showed there fighting spirit and pegged it back both times terrace first was a penalty early in the game bero equalised with 10 to go in 1st half second half terrace took the lead again and were fighting to the end to hold on a bad defensive mistake let bero striker cross the ball for the 2nd goal after that the game went end to end in search of a winner for both sides

Olympic v Charlestown
Res 2-2
1st 0-1
Res - Charly up 2-0 after 2 almost identical headers both from free kicks lobbed over the defence. Olympic went on to have the fair share of possession but missed a couple of pretty easy chances. Some interesting ref calls led to a penalty for Olympic to make it 2-1 at half time. second half much of the same, majority possession for olympic with charly missing 2 absolute sitters from the 6 yard box. Olympic scored very late with about 3 mins to spare.
1st - Charly looked the better side from the whistle to be honest with majority of the game spent camped in olympics half. Olympic had some chances but were from range and most were sprayed well off target. Charlys only goal was from either a very well taken free kick or a very fortunate miss kick. It never got off the ground and seemed to go straight through the wall and into the net. Olympic player not happy with the pest Chrissy Mathews running into him lashing out in retaliation and getting a red card plus a charly penalty. Charly missed the penalty, well saved by the olympic keep diving to his left. Olympic did well to push forward with 10 men but wasnt enough.

Nope was an official. Made many correct calls plattsy way. On the flip side plattsy were able to get away with blue murder. I feel all we ask for is consistency. Even the red was 50/50. Our player kicked the ball at a man after he had been fouled. Fair enough. Yellow in my eyes red in his. But we can cop that. But the reason he did this was because the plattsy player threw the stocko player over his hip and onto the ground after taking exception to the challenge. Player goes unpunished. Anyway sorry for the rant. Just good to get home with the points

We scored a pen and a free kick and it was a sly free kick. While the keeper was setting up the wall we asked the ref if we could take it without the whistle and he said so we just slotted it bottom corner while the keeper was on the other post.

I'm going to say Terrace are the front runners as they have a pretty easy run home. I predicted a couple of rounds ago they were in danger of missing the four but they proved me wrong with wins over bero and hamo. Now they are in the box seat. Bero have a superior goal difference however but I think they play mussy and stocko with probably needing to take maximum points. Important game on sat with Mussy v Stocko. I think Mussy are now safely in the 4 and we will be looking for the 3 points to all but join them. Hamo need some big slip ups above them and need to take max points from their final 3 games. They might start looking towards Reserve grade glory if they dont get max points over the next round or two. I think thats a pretty unbiased prediction?

Bloody good show from the Eagles considering the circumstances.
Reserve Grade only had ten blokes, two of which were injured keepers playing in the field.
Firsts had to use a CM in goals and also had a player pull out before the game and had to call on a Ressie who had just played a full game.
But even with all that, I think Stocko can put the loss on the #21's shoulders. That little fella has a hell of a temper.

I certainly wouldn't put the loss down to our 21. He was by far a standout for us on the day. Consistently getting taken down by players double his size and age would get to me as well. Got my 3 points for best player on park. I would put the loss down to poor finishing and two gifts by our defence for two mussy goals. Wind and playing on the poorer of our two fields led to a pretty poor game all round in my opinion. Mussy should be stoked with that result with some players out and we sure need to do better then that to go anywhere

Kidding yourself! He was about the only bloke on the field in blue not to blame. Consistently tore your midfield and defense to pieces! Almost laughable at points making some blokes look like U7s. At least he takes on blokes bigger than him and not targeting blokes half size to make himself feel good unlike others. Mussy deserved the points we were terrible. They weren't a whole lot better but just enough. If we're in the business of excuses we had two missing as well but that doesn't matter. Not a bad run for us tho. That's the first loss in 10 games which I'm very proud of.
And bottsy I know you haven't done it in a while but I think you're buttering yourself up a bit there. Still the best keeper in the comp on your day and one of the best I've seen! You made some killer saves to get some points botts! Regardless of what Hunzy says.

If the CM in goals your talking about is Bottsy then that is definitely no weakness, he would easily be the best keeper this comp has ever seen, but has to many goals in him on the feild to be wasted in there in this division

The Stocko and Mussy game was by no means the best game of the year but hard fought, finishing was definitely lacking on the day from both sides. Fair enough result IMO.
Stocko know how to use their home advantage, they looked pretty practiced at hoofing it into the wind then attacking from the flanks so pretty unfair to say Mussys midfield was torn to pieces.

All he was saying was that #21 on our team played all over some of Mussy midfielders and was by far not to blame for the loss. Mussy had some very handy young mids too. That was about as good as it got. Really scrappy game. It may have looked like we play to the conditions but overall the wind made it a very poor game. would much rather see a quality game played predominantly on the ground.

When a player consistently evades 3,4 and 5 would be tackles before being halted eventually sometimes with a foul I think it's fair to say he made some midfielders and defenders look ordinary. He does the same to all of us at training so I'm not on a high horse about it. Just don't know how a player who dominated all the ball can be blamed for a loss

I think the original quote was taken a little out of context, I don't think anyone at mussy was questioning how good the lad played, however consistently running the ball at players and beating them etc is going to draw fouls, it's just part of the game.
I think the original comment was meaning he let the fouls and his emotions get the better of him causing him to lash out toward the end of the game.
Sometimes even the best players on the field can ultimately play a major part in a loss through brain snaps, Suarez etc.

God know I've said far worse as well, but rules are rules and you can't point blame at the ref when he has followed the rules. Blame can only be placed on the perpetrator trying to point it else where condones that behaviour and bottom line is it's unacceptable.
Whilst I agree it's harsh yes but the send off is not the refs fault that's all I was alluding to, sorry if it came across as a shot as that's not how it was intended.

Calling the ref anything in a derogatory manner is a quick way to get sent off.
Does the ref ever call a player a sh## c$€% if you miss a shot, or criticise a missed tackle.
The general population of referees are very considerate people. While there is financial incentive, just because they are paid does not mean they are exempt from being respected. If you approach an incorrect decision by a referee any differently than you would a error made by a waitress at a restaurant, in terms of language used in a public place.
In saying that, it does change referee to referee and this is one area of frustrations of players. More experienced referees are comfortable in their decisions and will allow a player time to calm down and re assess their actions. However, some are also just sick of abuse week in week out and will treat dissent with an immediate yellow cards.
At the end of the day, as Premy said, if you don't call the referee names, he can't send you off for that. There is a way to approach a problem, often the heat of the moment takes over and it can be a good skill for a referee to be able to take a step back and allow the player a chance to revise their actions.

I suppose being there woulda helped explain this a lot better. It was just so minor. Game wasn't out of hand and I don't think the player even called him 4 eyes just made some "glasses" hand gestures. Was just a bit of overkill I guess. Plus player was going off and all it needed was a typical ref response like "hey that's enough son" or something like that lol

So minor that there is a yellow card offence designated for that exact thing, Dissent by word or action.
It's in the laws and the referee has followed them.
Perhaps the onus should be on the player not to commit "minor" yellow card offences lol

Nope - i would put the blame on the bloke who received a red card last match for Stocko

**** you Medowie!!!!
Judging by the name, this is the Asian **** that plays for Stockton and I expect nothing less from the prick. Shit player who did nothing but attempt to hurt people, but was unsuccessful in that too because he's a weak ****er too.
Here's what happened and given that no Medowie players or supporters have written much on this forum, the account of what happened is both completely true and equally pathetic.
OK, so Medowie was 2-0 up, deservedly at half time. Absolutely carving up, like at least 70:30% possession to Medowie.
About 10 minutes into the second half, the Medowie captain was given a second yellow for literally saying "How was that offside" (Because the Medowie striker was a good 5 metres onside, infact he was still onside when the flag went up). The first yellow being for telling someone to **** off after they palmed him in the face before returning to poke him in the eye.
Anyway, Medowie eventually conceded a goal and then later a penalty, the reason for which it was given is still unknown and still anyone's guess. Our keeper told the ref he was a **** and a ****wit, probably not the best thing to say given how the ref was reacting to that sort of "criticism" and sent off.
It should probably be mentioned now that the ref copped a lot of abuse from Stockton when they thought he got a call wrong but did nothing, also the Stockton boys tackling was disgusting. Half of the tackles were slide tackles, 1 or 2 seconds late with studs up too. But again, nothing was given and Medowie was absolutely helpless. Medowie should've had at least three penalties, but one only free kick was given , because it apparently occurred outside the box. It was at least 3 metres inside. Adding further to that, Medowie was given offside despite being at least, like actually probably more than 10 metres onside, and one on one with the keeper, when it was still 2-0.
After they scored that the second half went about a minute short of an hour, until Stocko scored that is, until full time was blown.
At the end of the game, a few of the players and a lot of the supporters there for their old boys days came over and told us that we were robbed and that the ref was absolutely shit.
I'd be embarrassed to win in the manner that Stockton did today, which was evident in some of the more self respected players and just about the whole of the support. absolutely deserved nothing from todays game and despite "Fat Buddha" or what ever his name was and a couple more grubs, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks they did deserve anything.

I do like the racism involved. Really classy. Shows the character of the man to have to resort to that. But anyway the medowie send offs the. Ref said before start of second half no more dissent or I will be sending people off so nobody to blame but themselves especially the keeper you can't call the ref a c u next Tuesday right in his face. As for our tackles, if you don't like getting a little bit Physical go play netball. Not my fault I and many others on the team (including other teams too) like to go in Hard to win games for our team.

Good to see stockton still building its reputation for making friends this year ,so thats olympic , medowie , bero and simba that they have had issues with in the last 2 years.
Club ref yes. Technically speaking a qualified ref who has been for over 5 years. was not reffing yesterday due to playing an important game and came and reffed the game for us afterwards.
No referees appointed is piss poor when numerous matches across the grades had 3 refs. So I thought I did the best thing by getting someone to do it rather than have one of us do it.
Was he a little card happy? Maybe? But we were all told any backchat would result in a card and he stuck to his guns. We were just smarter than them by shutting our mouths. Medowie could not manage to do so.
Keeper card for calling the ref a few different names deserved. Captain send off for numerous digs at the ref I feel deserved. As I was right next to it and I guarantee he said more than that.
And everyone is carrying on like Stockton had a clean slate. We had at least 5 yellows ourselves.
As for the racism coming from the Medowie players (captain in particular) and supporters is quite disappointing in this day and age really but at the same time I'm not surprised.
Anyway I don't care about anything else. We raised a lot of money for a great cause beyondblue which is a charity close to our hearts this season and we done a mate real proud yesterday so thanks to those who came and helped with any purchases as all proceeds are being donated. . Even the racist ones.

We call them healthy rivalries. And never had a problem with Simba. Many of Simba players are mates of mine and love Stockton. And dunno about bero we seem to get along quite well. Medowie yeah and Olympic blue with everyone including themselves so that's not that fair

Wow there is some shit being talked on here. We don't mention that the ref is under 18. And the linesman that gave those offsides was all of 13/14. And ps they were completely correct. Even your striker knew when we played the offside trap. Also the crap that was spoken by some of the medowie parents was effing disgusting. Would be ashamed if my olds ever spoke to kids like that. It was not on. If u want to act like complete clowns then don't show up to "support". As was said before the ref called the two captains over and said if anyone says anything to me anymore I will be dishing out cards. He stayed true to his word. After that we were more concerned with playing football rather then arguing. Was nice for a change. Teams are always getting up us for not leaving the ref alone and we did yesterday. Yet we are still getting a spray. As for our 21 being a complete grub he got a yellow card. But also finished the game on the field unlike two medowie players who were clearly angels and did absolutely nothing wrong in the eyes of some.....

i think you stocko boys arnt quite understanding how the ref gave you guys that win. for one yous were dominated the whole first half, only relying on your long kicks from your goal keeper to try and score. rolo (possibly the worst defender to step foot in this division) had to go to the grub tactics which all stockos abide by and take out our strikers legs inside the box everytime he beat him, but apparently it wasnt worthy of a penalty (honestly have no idea how we didnt have at least 3 penalties in the first half, but a club ref that rolo "selected" before the game probably explains that) despite this, we still managed to lead 2-0 at half time. in the second half the ref hit fine form, i know the ref had said prior to the game that no back chat would be tolerated but what i think he meant to say was "no back chat would be tolerated from medowie, but stocko do what you want" because yes, some of the yellow cards were the correct decision but to send off our captain because he said to the ref "the linesman (probably 12 years old) only put up his flag because the defence said he was offside" that is ridiculous. and to wilso who said that stocko played the offside trap, you are a joker, the only good thing you did all game was that spectacular header in the first half. when it came to the penalty yous recieved late in the second half for absolutely no reason, this was the exact words from the referee to our player who apparently gave away the penalty "he was pulling his shirt the whole time" when our player said "i didnt touch his shirt" the ref then said "well it was for pushing the player then" now im no expert but i think pulling a players shirt and pushing a player are 2 completely different things. this penalty then caused our goalkeeper to react and call the ref a c*nt but to be fair that is what every medowie player on the field and supporters were thinking.so rolo when you say that the red cards were deserved and it wasnt the refs fault, have a think of what lead to our players saying that to the ref because i can assure you, the refs decisions were absolutely ridiculous and i havnt seen a more fried ref in the whole time ive played soccer. anyway at fulltime it was 2-2 but apparently somehow there was over 10 minutes of stoppage time (which is absolutely ridiculous as not one player got injured, and no balls were lost), my only guess as to why the game went so long is because the ref knew that stockton were on top and was waiting for them to score.
there is absolutely no bullsh*t in what i just wrote, as rolo you came up to us after the game and said "yous boys were robbed" so dont go on this forum and carry on and say yous deserved to win. and buddha who the f*ck is joel?

Don't put words into my mouth. I came over to shake hands. What I said was unlucky. I did not say you were robbed. I tried to come and show some sportsmanship unlike some of your blokes. And only to a barrage of abuse from the 'fans' including racial ones. Which is strange considering there is no other form of heritage in me??
What would you like me to choose for a ref? A Medowie player? A Stockton player? Or just pull a state league ref out of my ass. Without a ref there is no game peanut so you have a think about it.
Got no doubts that Morgan was all over me. Absolutely. I think you're stretching the truth. I wasn't quick enough to even get close to him in the box I committed my fouls way up field ;) He's a good bloke and a good player. He knows what I had to do and did and I guarantee he would have done the same thing. And we both shook hands after the game and have moved on. Shows what a good sport he was, a credit to the club amongst few. But the fact that you call me a defender is a compliment so thankyou because in no world am I a defender. Never have been never will be. But thanks =)
And they were too great goals from you guys. Wilso finished well for you and our keepr a great assist so good work creating the opportunities.

Thank you to all Medowie players officials and supporters for your patronage on the day and for any other passers by that may have bought a sausage sanga or bag of lollies to help contribute. The total isn't 100% at this point but at last count it was well over $1000 raised that will be donated to the Beyond Blue charity this week with all proceeds of the day being donated.
