Jones was signed as a stop gap measure and no decision on whether he is retained or extended should be made until the season has concluded. Top 6 was the minimum requirement that both he and the gypo stated at the beginning of the year and if he succeeds in doling so then reward him with a modest extension. If he fails with the squad at his disposal then he should be shown the door and a recruitment process, that isn't rushed, should occur. A coach who can recruit foreign players should be a pre-requisite.

Top 6 should be a 1 yr extension IMO. Its an achievement but only the minimum. A 1 year extension gives him 2 yrs left on the contract and the certainty to keep building, if thats what happens Making the GF should be a considerable acheivement and worth a 2-3 year extension imo.
My point is, Jones has done nothing yet and there shouldn't be any talk of an extension until he actually achieves something. A loss this week, which IMO is very likely, will see us drop out of the 6 again. Signing an 18yo kid, albeit a promising one, he formerly coached in the NYL is hardly anything to crow about.
Nice post.
Of the senior players.
Hoole, Poljak, and Leilei I would keep.
Would be nice to get Poljak as an Aussie and Hoole's management needs to be given a reality check if they start the smack talk during negotiations.
Labi - He's not gettting a run as it is - WHich suggests his future after this season maybe already decided.
Morten I'm, not sure about - age / durability is a concern. - Maybe a one year contract.
Kanta - I'm a big fan but he has too many injury concerns. Would he play for $75k or less a season ?
BK - If we can massively reduce his salary and get the 50% discount as well from the cap then yes. Otherwise. No.
Based on who we have signed for 17/18 it leaves us with the following team and depth
Duncan
Hoffman---Boogaard---Jackson---Vujica
Koutroumbis----Ugarkovic
D Petratos----------------------------Nabbout
Brown
Kokko
With back up players
??????
Allwright---Alessi---?????---Cowburn
?????----Burke
Champness----------------------------Moric
Clut
K Petratos
With another 5-8 senior players to be added to the roster. We have plenty of holes to fill in depth and in the first team but some of the off contract players would be worth a considerable amount of salary cap.
My resigning and new signings to fill the 5-8 players would be
- Hoole
- Nordstrand (if Kokko is transferred)
- Leilei (if forced to sign another chinese player)/If not Visa LW/RW
- Pierce-Clark (or best NYL Goal Keeper)
- Visa Striker
- Visa DM
- Squaddie RB (maybe just for depth)
Leaving out Poljak would be controversial but IMO if we are seriously going to improve the quality of the squad then a classy visa striker and DM is what is needed. IMO Duncan is the settled No 1 and we could do with either promoting our youth keeper, if he is up to it, or signing another who is eager for the opportunity. BK has had a long career but his time is up IMO
Harsh
Achieve making the top 6 and get a 1 year extension??
FMD
Same club not made the top 6 in ****ing years and years and this bloke will have done it on a shot gun preparation
For that you want to give him a 1 year contract??
We should be building a statue if the bloke gets us to the finals
This bloke has achieved something already
He actually has shown that he knows what he is ****ing doing by actually getting us to have a threatening game plan

Way too early for me to start raving about the famous Johnny K yet. Hope he keeps improving into a genuine aleaguer or more.
He's going ok for his age so far.
I did find it interesting that his old boy prefered him to gain experience and skills from senior football instead of youth academies.
No.
Making the finals should be the minimum he should achieve.
As of right now we're out of the 6 again, and it's unlikely we'll pick up a total of 6 points at perth in one year. But if we do we're still only one loss from being out of the finals.
If he makes the top 6/4 next year after a full pre-season and HIS player choice for the most part, i'd consider 1 more year. He'd have to do something VERY special to consider anything longer.
If Jones doesnt make the finals then we either sack him or get rid off half this squad who havent performed enough at a level good enough to make finals.
