So they survive by the skin of their teeth just like Cardiff did.

I would like to see official confirmation of this from Newcastle Football, their rules clearly state as below. This is why I said it sounded like months ago in this thread that the teams coming first will just refuse to be promoted and stay in ZL1
However, if they want to make it 12-10-12 competition then it would mean Minmi stay where they are.
PROMOTION AND RELEGATION
Club shall be promoted or relegated by the following means:-
a. The last placed Team (based on First Grade Competition Premiership Points)
shall be relegated for the next season; the first placed Team (based on First
Grade Competition Premiership Points) shall be promoted for the next
season.
b. Promotion and Relegation shall be COMPULSORY between Northern
League 1, Zone Leagues 1,2,3.
When 11 teams was mentioned on Wednesday night, old mate looked a little confused, a bit like he hadn't done his maths properly...
Nothing against Westlakes, but yes.
Newcastle football need to man up, make Zone football as strong as possible. 10 team comps across 4 divisions. ZL1 and ZL2 with 3 grades and ZL3 and 4 (if not 10, then the balance) with two grades.
I think it’s unrealistic to have 24 clubs with 3 grades. Focus on strengthening what we have, help out where it’s needed and push on.
Agree this is the correct model and I think 40 zone league teams across 4 divisions is the magic number we should be aiming for. I dont mind the 5 team final series however if it does revert back to a 10 team comp the finals series should go back to only consist of the top 4 teams.
Yeah I’m torn here, because I also think the 5 team final series is the best to actually reward top finishing teams, especially in thirds and ressies. Because the old system is virtually irrelevant for lower grades.
I still think if it’s a 10 team comp, I’d lean to a 5 team finals series simply due to it rewarding higher finishing teams.
If its a 10 team comp it has to be top 4 major minor semi format like interdistrict comps, if its top 5 youll have people complaining again that mid table teams get rewarded
I get what you are saying and I am borderline on it as well. However I just feel that a team that finishes 5th in a 10 team comp probably should not be rewarded with the chance to play in or win a grand final. Just my opinion though and I respect the argument for it to remain a top five.
Are the suns struggling to find a coach?
Having been knocked back by a few coaches already….be interesting to see who steps up for the job.
I agree if the comp reverts back to 10 team comp. The final series should be top 4 as followed.
Week 1 - 1 v 2 = winner to GF loser moves to week 2
Week 1 - 3 v 4 = Loser out & winner progresses to week 2
Week 2 - Loser 1/2 v Winner 3/4
Week 3 GF - Winner Wk1 1/2 v Week 2 Winner.
This format rewards you coming 1st or 2nd and a second bite of the cherry.
Just my thoughts. however I'm for a 10 team comp across ZL1 to ZL4.
Interesting times ahead
Allegedly
2 grade model across all tiers
Possible separate comp for clubs who want thirds
Interesting 6 from 12 clubs from this season voted for optional or removal of thirds
19 of 32 clubs in zone football voted for 2 grades only
Be interesting to understand if the 19 votes were in support of it being ?non-mandated? (want it but don?t care if a couple of clubs in the division don?t have a 3rds) or if they actually ?don?t want 3rds?.
Draft comp format will be discussed at the ZFL Meeting at NF in a couple of weeks on the 23rd is what was mentioned at the meeting the other week.
Well known for at least 6 months now
Really the best way to go about it, wonder if Dudley will be allowed to have their thirds remain and be part of that comp.Quote:

I don't believe this, many people on this forum told me that every club they spoke to wanted to keep their thirds.Quote:

Hardly a shock, it was always a small minority of teams that were insistent that the only reason the game existed and managed to survive in the Hunter Valley was because of thirds.Quote:

Disappointing outcome for ZL, there will be several disgruntled clubs.
Let?s hope those wanting a 3rd grade squad can be catered for effectively.
