I can definitely see both sides to the story. At the end of the day, someone isn't going to be happy. It's a very unfortunate situation that we've had this much consistent rain at the pointy end of the season.
I would much rather have just a penalty shoot-out if the ground is unplayable.
You're 100% right, that's not fair. But what's the answer?? I can't see any scenario where a team isn't going to feel ripped off.
I don't think anyone can expect the best performed team over the season to give up their grand final spot to 4th based on one game.

The Fed have failed miserably here. It shouldn't have come to this situation where the rules have been made up after the 1st ball had been kicked. If the rules were made up at the start of the season everyone would have known the rules and no one would have been able to complain.
