Thanks for your efforts griff. Sad day for the clubJets finalise mutual termination with Griffiths
Newcastle Jets this afternoon signed a mutual termination agreement with attacker Joel Griffiths.
Griffiths won the 2008 Hyundai A-League Championship with the club, and in the same campaign claimed competition honours as Johnny Warren Medallist and Golden Boot winner.
Throughout the Hyundai A-League era, Griffiths – who also represented Newcastle in the National Soccer League before venturing to Europe – scored 34 goals in 83 games for the Jets.
Precisely half of Griffiths’ goals came at Hunter Stadium, making him the club’s all time goal getter at the venue.
On behalf of the club, Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Murphy praised the former Socceroo for his contributions to the Jets over the years and wished Griffiths well in the future.
“I arrived at the Jets at a time whereby the club had already decided to part ways with Joel (Griffiths),” Murphy said. “But I sincerely want to pay tribute to the valuable contribution he has made to the club.”
“Joel’s been an outstanding player for the Jets, but sometimes there are difficult circumstances in football. I wholeheartedly wish him all the very best for his future endeavours.”
Newcastle Jets will continue to work proactively behind the scenes with David Carney, Billy Celeski and Adrian Madaschi, as well as the PFA (Professional Footballers Australia), to resolve each player’s respective situations with the club.
