While playing 23s for an NBN club, I was put on to ref an U/15s (the old NPL Youth-esque comp that was trialled a few years back) game involving my club.
I contacted the relevant people and discussed my concerns:
    a) The pressure it may put on my relationship with my club.
    b) The way the opposition/spectators would perceive my decisions if they knew of my allegiance.
    c) and that i just didn't feel comfortable.
I was told that it shouldn't be a problem, and that people wouldn't judge my decisions. I ended up saying that i didn't feel comfortable refereeing my club.
In the end, the compromise (due to appointments) was that i would do the line, and centre the previous game.

No surprise but got confirmation that Kahibah v Lakes if off tonight. Also Lakes will be playing their remaining catch-ups against Toronto-Awaba on Weds. July 1st and Wallsend on Weds. July 8th.

What the FFA Cup does beyond promote the existence of local clubs across the country is highlight that aside from 1st Division (NPL I am old fashioned), when it comes down to it there is little separating some teams from 2nd Division (NEWFM) to 5th. There is even a couple of clubs in 6th with players and rosters who could rattle the cage of so called better clubs in higher divisions if all players available. NNSWF needs to provide more support to clubs in the lower leagues. Apply pressure to the various councils to give the lower leagues a chance to play on better pitches that can cope with a little rain. Why dont they pick a combined rep side out of each division at years end to play in an inter league cup from 2nd to 6th Division. I have seen teams like Simba, Olympic, Uni, both New Lambtons, Dudley, Mayfield Seniors, Jesmond ID1s ( this weekend), who feature players who would walk into NEWFM but work or Uni or family stops them. NEWFM is miles apart from NPL but not far off the better teams in the lower grades.

Don't judge this years NewFM standard based on West Wallsend's performance on the weekend.

Westy haven't won a match in NewFM since beating Cessnock 2-0 on the 19th April.
They have lost 6 of their last seven matches and their last two games were a 8-1 loss to Lakes and a 5-0 loss to Wallsend.
Westy started the season with a few good players holding the team together (including their keeper).
Now that the keeper is gone along with a few other season ending injuries their lack of depth is showing.
Anyone that has been following their form would have known that a thumping by a NPL team this weekend was assured.

In contrast I thought Valentine held their own in their loss to Adamstown.
I have watched a number on NewFM games this season and I believe the standard is significantly higher than in previous years.

    Stags - Lakes
    17s 1-1
    19s 1-1

First non Win of the season for Lakes 17s I believe. Good effort by the Young Stags in both games.

They drew their last match 2-2 with Belswans. Surprised to see it's now two straight draws. Agree, great effort by the Stags.

Last nights rain was torrential in Newcastle last night.
I would say big question mark on whether this weekends games will go ahead in many competitions.
In NewFM the Cessnock and Thornton games Sunday might be ok but Cooks Hill, Valo and Wallsend games would have to be in serious doubt.
    Can anyone confirm?
I wouldn't mind watching a game this weekend if they are on.

I'll be down at the gardens tomorrow morning to see how the pitch held up, last thing we want is another washout

    Cookers will play.
It wasn't the water that was the problem. (even though I acquired a decent sponge this morning to mop any off!)
No water to speak off on arrival at 10:30am other than a damp patch grandstand side of inside the centre circle.

I spent 3 hours just raking up all the grass swales from the deluge.
Some of them were collected and piled so high it would have been unplayable. Other areas where the clippings
had sheeted and were lying thick, removing them allowed the grass underneath to dry out.
I've never seen the field so bad with the clippings before. (Cookers have been there since 2010)

    Anyway, I'll sleep well tonight...

Great effort. Looking forward to watching the games tomorrow and glad it's still on. Lucky Kahibah's away from home or that would have been off by now.

Cooks Hill United v Kahibah F.C

1st: 4-1 Kahibah (deserved the win and looked very good, will boost their finals hopes greatly knocking off their nearest rivals in that style, missing a few players too so big effort)
23's: 2-1 Kahibah (didn't see the game as I had my own game on across the road, have been told that Cookers lost with the last kick of the game)
19's: 5-1 Cookers (Saw the first half and Cookers scored a couple of nice goals. Big win for the Cookers and one that goes a long way toward securing a finals berth)
17's: 7-0 Kahibah (Absolute horror show from the Cookers. Heads dropped and the boys struggled, especially when they reduced to ten. All class by Kahibah though. Minor premiership still up for grabs)

Also, wow on that Valentine score. Sends a clear message that they're not dead and buried in the promotion race.

Kahibah juniors played today so your statement seems a bit silly now

I'll give em credit for that but field 2 was closed so I was half right.

Surely there's a dry weekend somewhere around the corner

That's one thing I think we're all hoping for. It's been crazy how much rain there's been this season. Hard for anyone to get into form when games keep getting re-scheduled and what not. Thornton's called their New-FM off for tomorrow because the cricket pitch area is still covered in water so there's another wash-out to add onto the list.

    Cessnock v Lakes:
    17's: 7-0 Lakes
    19's: 3-1 Lakes
    23's: 3-1 Lakes
    1st grade: 4-1 Lakes

Messaged results so can't comment on the game but decent day by the sounds of things for Lakes. No real surprises.
